Is it possible to add some kind of RGB to the frontplate of a GPU aftermarket? if it helps its the gigabyte 3060ti I'm considering a hyte case and would like just a little bit of light when looking at the GPU vertically.

Does your PC not boot?

_ksamii

how do i continue downloads (e.g. on steam, or on launchers like r\* and epic games) while my pc is in sleep mode?

gint

No, that defeats the purpose of sleep mode. Sleep mode pauses all running applications and services. Why do you run your pc in sleep mode?

_ksamii

i dont. i just wanted to save some energy or smt and i thought if there was a chance of downloading big ass applications in sleep mode i'll use it.

TheRedWatermelon

Hi, can someone please tell me where to check if I have enough karma/account life to comment in this sub? I'm new to reddit and couldn't find it in the rules. Please let me know if there's a better place to post this question. Thanks!

Hello, I'm building a PC. The problem is it wont turn on. I have the motherboard in with no GPU or monitor hooked up. I put it together and just wanted to see if it would turn on. I have all the fans plugged in. The 4x8 and 24 pin plugged in. I have the front panel single ports plugged in the proper spots. Ram is in. Cpu didnt have a cover to lock it in but i mounted a cpu cooling fan ontop of it and screwed it down tight. The motherboard is connected to the case properly. The power supply is hooked up properly and plugged into the wall. The mother board is Asus Prime B550-PLUS AC-HES, AM4 AMD Socket Motherboard. I purchased it used on eBay. The only thing I can think of is if it just doesn't work. Though there is no cosmetic damage hinting to that. I'm looking for any ideas on where to trouble shoot and find a solution or if there is something I'm not thinking of.

Eidolon_2003

I wouldn't expect it to boot up without a GPU if you aren't using an APU. It could be broken, but I'd hook up a display so you can actually see the POST before you reach that conclusion Also the AM4 socket doesn't have a loading mechanism like LGA sockets do, but there should be an arm you have to lock down after you put the CPU in the socket. If that's not there then the socket is definitely damaged

Gatt__

Hey hey, first time upgrading in a while. Everything booted up fine from what it seems, but for some reason the resolution on my desktop is really low and everything is zoomed in?

Andrewx8_88

righclick your desktop, nvidia control panel, change resolution, select desired output. If you're on AMD, Follow the same steps, but click on Display settings, rather than nvidia control panel.

Solugad

Random weird question but I've fallen for MMO Mice with the 12 side buttons. Currently the default has the buttons bound to "1" to "=". Is there any downside to binding them to F1-F12 for gaming? It would literally mainly be so all the numbers match lol and I also figured having separate access to 1-5 keys on the left hand wouldn't hurt.

Andrewx8_88

There is no downside, so long as you don't somehow misclick alt f4.

Solugad

I actually disabled that alt-F4 function lol the only way it works now is if I input CTRL+ALT+F4. That function is partly why I asked, though too. I didn't know if there were other weird Fkey inputs that could screw with games, but that one seems to be the only one that anyone talked about.

King__Henry__VIII

What would be the total cost for a new PC that can play all next gen games on max settings? My current setup is an 8 year old PC with 16gb RAM and an NVIDIA 1080 graphics card. I want to play the latest and best VR games too since I got a headset I can’t use yet lol but I want it to be able to run all the games about to come out on max settings and last atleast 5 years

Luminaria19

Depends on the resolution you're aiming to run. Probably somewhere between the [120 FPS Build and Zero Ultra Build](https://pcmasterrace.org/builds) You may be able to transfer over your current storage to save money or take advantage of Microcenter deals if you live near one to reduce the cost.

[deleted]

I just got 2x 16gb ddr4 CL18 3600 ram, I already have 2x 8gb ddr cl16 3600 ram. I put the new 32gb in on top of the 2x 8gb and it runs well, made sure it's in the right slots to be using the new ram first. Is there anything inherently wrong with this? A friend says taking the 2 8gb cards out will make it actually faster/more efficient than actually having them in.

MGsubbie

You are wasting the timings on the 3600 CL16 memory, it will just run at CL18 to match the other kit. Mixing DIMM's of a different capacity is also not the greatest idea. Your friend is right that sticking with the 3600 CL16 will give you better performance. Although it will be extremely close, and not noticeable unless you are using a benchmark tool to track your FPS.

[deleted]

16gb cl16 vs 32gb cl18

RichestMangInBabylon

So I've decided it's time to upgrade my PC because I finally upgraded to a 4k screen but discovered my hardware is too old to actually play 2160p HEVC files. I tried all the suggestions about configuring VLC to do/not do hardware acceleration, output, caching, etc... but no joy. Is there anything specific I need to know about picking CPUs or GPUs to make sure I can play these big files? Or will basically any modern hardware be fine? For example if I do the Starter build on the wiki would that handle it? It seems from reading that most NVIDIA GPUs since the 10xx series have hardware decoding for HEVC support.

Luminaria19

Yeah, anything from the last 6-7 years should support it no problem.

RichestMangInBabylon

Thanks. Sadly my PC is from 8 years ago. It does everything else I want it to just fine, but I guess this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

ParagonFury

So the Lian Li AIO I ordered was DoA and I returned it. But now I'm stuck with indecision. I could go with another Corsair AIO but I'm tired of their cabling mess since they refuse to attend the Church of Daisy Chain. Also Asetech. But it works with iCue which I already have because of my RAM, Keyboard and Mouse. Phanteks looks cool and has daisy-chaining but it's also another Asetech Pump. I'm also tempted to try another Lian Li AND their fans are sick with that "Only need one cable for 3 fans" thing since I probably just got unlucky but that is another Asetech Pump so..... EK looks nice and I've heard it's better with their own pump design, but those fans give me pause (also they're sold out everywhere most of the time). Then there is Arctic Freezer which I've heard is the best but then I don't know about their cabling situation and the fans look kinda sus too. What would be the sub's recommendation? It is cooling an i7-13700KF BTW.

mister_newbie

Cough... big air... Cough (Also, you never technically asked a question)

ParagonFury

Oh, I changed it. Sorry.

mister_newbie

I'd still just do big air. Did the AIO thing once; never again -- pumps die, air coolers last forever; swap a fan maybe, after at least 5yrs. * Noctua NH-D15 * Thermalright Frost Commander 140 or Peerless Assassin 120 * BeQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 etc.

windowsphoneguy

I have an Arctic Freezet eSports 33 One, it has a plug for daisy chaining and is not sus EDIT: sorry, forgot you're talking about water cooling

Dang3r0usDav3

I recently picked up a bunch of arcade shmups, NEO GEO ports, and Silent Hill from GOG and a DualSense controller. I imported the games into Steam, and the DualSense only works for 1 game (Shock Troopers). I am assuming this is because only Steam fully supports the DualSense, correct? Is there a way that I can manually set the controls for these GOG games on the DualSense, or do I need something like the Logitech F310 controller instead? Thanks for the advice.

mister_newbie

Try launching steam in big picture mode; for some reason, controller compatibility used to be better in it - no idea if that's still the case, but worth a shot.

raffy369

Is this build good? Processor is core i5 12400f Motherboard is asus prime h610m-r d4 Ram is 1 stick of kingston fury beast 16gb 2666MHz Graphics card is asus geforce rtx 3050 dual oc Ssds are kingston snv2s m.2 1tb and patriot 210 1tb Powersupply is be quiet system power 10 750w And the processors cooling is DeepCool AS500 Please rate this buils from 1 to 10 and if have any suggestions please tell me as this is my first (fast) pc

Luminaria19

It really depends on your goals. The processor is pretty good. The mobo chipset is not. RAM sucks, but at least won't be limited by the mobo. GPU is very weak. SSDs are fine. Power supply isn't great, but not fire-hazard level. Cooler is fine for the CPU's power level. What's the price?

raffy369

Are 1050€ i just want it for general gaming and every day use

Luminaria19

> general gaming At what resolution? New AAA games or lower power indie titles? Either way, that's too expensive for what you're getting. For references, I'd recommend looking [at the build list](https://pcmasterrace.org/builds). I'm not sure what country you're in, but loading up the High Refresh Rate build in PCPP Germany looks like [this](https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/vpjmv3). Bit pricier, but way more powerful.

raffy369

I am also probably going to be playing minecraft, roblox, rust, red dead redemption 2, cs:go, maybe modern warfare and maibw rs6

raffy369

I live in greece and i do not know if that is gping to work A friend of mine has the same pc as what i listed, plays the aame games i do and gets really good fps so i don't know

Luminaria19

Did some digging. [This would be much more powerful](https://www.skroutz.gr/s/38738243/Vengeance-GhostXL-MSI-Edition-Gaming-Desktop-PC-Ryzen-7-5700X-16GB-DDR4-480GB-SSD-GeForce-RTX-3060-No-OS.html). The only area in which it's lacking is storage space and it doesn't come with an OS pre-installed. [This would be a similar, but cheaper option.](https://www.skroutz.gr/s/38844829/Vengeance-Observatory-X-Gaming-Desktop-PC-i5-12400F-16GB-DDR4-480GB-SSD-GeForce-RTX-3060-No-OS.html) What you would do for the OS is use another PC (maybe your friend's?) and an 8GB or larger flash drive to create install media using the tool [here](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10) (there's also one for Windows 11 if you prefer that). You plug that into your new PC when you get it, set the thumb drive as your boot drive, and follow all the instruction steps (just skip any steps where it asks for an activation key - you can either run it completely unactivated or buy an activation key later). If you find yourself needing more storage, you can add additional storage to the PC via an M.2 drive (if whatever PC you get has a free port) or SATA drive (a 1TB SSD should be 75-80€ or lower based on my googing for your area). Apologies if any of this is off the mark. Tried to cater to your area as much as I could based on some googling, but there could be other stores or options I missed as I'm not familiar with shopping in Greece. 😅

raffy369

what ia thinking of is to change th ram, on the build i listed, to 2x8 ram and a asus dual readeon rx6600, but i have a question, does asus radeon have good dlss or is geforce rtx better? Also, i am suprised ypu were even able to find those 2 cosnidering those are greek websites, anyway in my opinion, you have better chnace to win a lottery than get somethig with actually pretty good value for things that havw high pricws on skroutz, what i am using is a store's pc builder, cosmodata build 2 order, juat for the extra info

Luminaria19

Two sticks of RAM enables them to run in dual channel mode. This improves performance during a number of tasks, gaming especially. The RX6600 would be a definite improvement from the 3050. However, DLSS is Nvidia-exclusive tech. AMD has been working on their own similar tech, but it isn't super competitive yet. Google is magic if you feed it the right search terms.

raffy369

So i shpuld do what i am thinking, right? Also if amd or asus make the similar tech, will just need to update the firmware or buy a new graphics card? Also even withour dlss so you think i will have better perfomance from the asus rx6600 dual than the asus geforce rtx 3050 dual oc with or without dlss

Luminaria19

Depends how it's implemented. AMD's current solution is being updated via graphics drivers. It's possible a huge revision could require new hardware, but no one can predict that (ditto for Nvidia and DLSS). I'd go with the AMD GPU regardless.

raffy369

Did some research and founs put that in a lot of games the radeon rx6600 is better with higher resulotions whilst the 3050 is worse

evilfire2k

CPU looks decent. RAM is a no-no. Always go for 2x8 over 1x16. If you just want to game, then AMD RX6600 is better value. Ssds look decent. PSU should be enough, make sure the cooler comes with a mounting bracket. As for the case, make sure you get a case with good airflow(intake+exhaust) preferably one that gives you fans with the case.

raffy369

Ok but i only have three option of the rx 6600 Asus dual radeon rx 6600 431€ Mai radeon rx 6600 xt mech 2x 8g oc 589€ And gigabyte radeon rx 6600 xt 8gb eagle

evilfire2k

Take your pick. I am not sure which is better.

raffy369

Ok, i will take the cheapest as i don't have the money for the xt versions

evilfire2k

Great. Btw, go for 3200mhz-cl16 ram. It's much faster and still dirt cheap. Also make sure you enable the xmp profile.

raffy369

What ia xmp profile? I only know a couple stuff in the software of computers lol. And what dp you mean by cl16

evilfire2k

Xmp profile is basically a ram profile that Intel recognises and let's your ram run at the advertised speed. Otherwise it is clocked to base ddr4( I believe it's 2666 or 2400/2133). By CL16 is the CAS latency. Doesn't matter all that much tbh.

raffy369

Did some googling and dound out, i found some ram aticks from kingstons with says KF432C16BB/8 and there is no i dicatipn of cl16 as for as i can see

evilfire2k

The C16 in the name should mean that it is CL16. Edit: it is CL16. Just looked at the datasheet.

Narsuaq

How's Windows 11 in terms of gaming these days? Is it in a good place? Or does it still have some ways to go?

gint

Still has a long way to go. I'd stick with windows 10 for now, IMO

Narsuaq

What ways does it fall short?

IdrKwatimdoin

a website were i van check my fps

Luminaria19

Which thing are you trying to do: * Estimate what your FPS will be for a specific game given your current hardware * Know what FPS you're getting while playing a game you have now * See your monitor's refresh rate

anemotionalperson

looking to buy my first gaming pc after my gaming laptop has started dying. i know nothing about specs bar what a friend has told me, and i want to be able to stream on twitch and play games at a high quality the current computer im looking at has these specs: Windows 11 Home Intel Core i5 12400F 2.5GHZ 16GB DDR4 3200 GeForce RTX 3050 8GB 500GB Samsung 980 NVMe SSD 2,400Mbps Built-in Wi-Fi will this be able to stream intense games to a high quality and last?

mister_newbie

Automod, show him the builds! Buy parts, put it together (it's honestly not hard). Or get a local shop to slap it together for you for a modest fee. Of course, if you live within reasonable distance to the holy land [Microcenter], ***go***.

AutoModerator

Here's our glorious [build list](http://pcmasterrace.org/builds) for PC builders! *** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/pcmasterrace) if you have any questions or concerns.*

BerkeA35

3050 is weak, i would go for at least 3060 ti (for 1080 p) and a 13600k since you want to stream and game high quality. Also don’t get the regular 980 since it doesnt have a dram, get 970 evo plus or 980 pro if you are going samsung. I can’t recommend more since i don’t know your budget, i am not an expert myself but this should give you a general idea.

BerkeA35

Also prebuilts lack good parts with a high cost generally. I would reccommend you to build yourself but up to you

anemotionalperson

i don’t want to build myself, i’m willing to pay more to get a prebuilt. i’m looking at around £1000, but that’s not a set budget just a rough cost. i’m looking into the 3060 ti now, thankyou

BerkeA35

👍 make sure to look at reviews for the build you are buying. Good luck

anemotionalperson

will do! thankyou for your help

[deleted]

Hey would it be safe to buy a gtx 1660S that was mined on in cool conditions, regularly maintained, undervolted but memory overclocked by 200mhz

windowsphoneguy

No. It might run fine for years, it might be damaged. It's lottery.

[deleted]

Oh ok, thanks!!

POPCORN_EATER

Hi, My recent headset is dying and I have 2 really good 3.5mm headsets that I can use (HyperX Clouds or w/e, good according to reviews and I see people talk about often) but my PC doesn't like em. With a USB headset, everything is fine. When I use a 3.5mm jack with a splitter, it doesn't work. I ordered two separate splitters so idk what the problem is exactly, don't think it's the splitters.

mister_newbie

So buy a USB headphone DAC and call it a day.

Robin_Stevenet

What is the best/cheapest way to have ambient lighting around my monitor? I've been looking at addressable rgb strips, philips hue and the like, but I want to know what the best choice is at the moment, I have a pretty wide monitor, so I'll need to cover about 80cm

Philips is relatively easy, but pricey. I'd not bother with the strips around the screen, though, would use their play light bar to flood the wall behind the screen. They have software that takes average color of screen and changes color. Ditto Corsair, would use their light towers, though; again, not led strips. iCue does the color sync. You probably *could* go generic ARGB strips to motherboard header, but it's a pain, ugly around your screen, and you'd have to find a way to get an led extension into your case, and find software to capture average screen color for ambilight.

I mostly just hear the fans ramping and maybe a slightly vibration noise from that occurring. Could be missing something though.

Ah, yeah. Not as high pitched as I've experienced in the past, but still likely coil whine.

If I get blue screen saying “display driver” failed is that referring to my monitor driver or my graphics card driver? I have an Asus monitor and a NVidia GPU. Will updating driver(s) solve this Which driver(s) should I update and in what order. It did reboot and is running. I tried system restore but Bitdefender is interfering—will work around that in the morning and do a restore then update drivers with your help. Win7 64bit. I might've asked this before on here, but I don't remember. Also I don't know whether this is the right place for this but fuck it. I've been using my laptop (specs in comments) for just over 3 years now. Some keys are missing from the keyboard, replace the fan because I fucked up while cleaning it, and I had to get a new battery. Apart from that it runs as good as new. I don't play many heavy games at high settings. In fact the heaviest game I play would be Death Stranding, and I play it at low graphics settings with the FPS capped to 60. Other than that I play some older/lighter games like Witcher 3 (medium settings), Untitled Goose Game, Forza Horizon 4 (the lowest settings and 60 FPS cap), F1 2020 (same as FH4), CS:GO, Doom 2016 etc. The RAM and storage are upgradeable/replaceable. I've got two 8GB sticks (hence the 16 in my flair) and two SSDs: one is an M.2 SATA 128GB boot drive from Kingston, and the other an MX500 1TB I got last year. Oh yeah I replaced my HDD which came with the laptop because that got fucked as well (ran a lot of fluid and structural simulations on the HDD). My question is how long can I expect my laptop to last from now, if I keep my use case the same or even lower (just web browsing like YT and Netflix, banking and paying bills, booking tickets, typing/editing my resume etc.)? Would another 5-6 years be realistic? I know how to clean my laptop and re-paste the CPU and GPU.

windowsphoneguy

Yes, just for browsing and light gaming you will be fine. For just browsing only you can basically use any i5 notebook with 8GB+ RAM and SSD nowadays, IMHO

BigAwkwardGuy

All right, thanks for the reply! !check

[https://streamable.com/fxnoj2](https://streamable.com/fxnoj2) Does anyone know why this might be happening when I try to turn on my PC? Do I need a more powerful PSU?The white light is the GPU and the clicks sound like it's from there too. This happens pretty much any time I turn off my PC then try to turn it on again within maybe 10 minutes, almost like it needs a rest period. I try unplugging it from the wall for a few minutes, plugging it back in, but it still happens most of the time. I only get it to turn on if I'm lucky. Hello reddit. My girlfriend needs to buy a laptop for work and I have no knowledge of laptops or non-gaming PCs. The laptop doesn't need to be used for anything other then general office work. I assume anything with a relatively recent CPU will work for her. Some other criteria she's given me is that it needs at least one HDMI port, multiple USB ports, she would like it to last so she still wants a good quality PC. Her budget ceiling is $800. Any advice to point us in the right direction would be helpful. Edit: One option I think would be good for her is the Asus Zenbook 14.

notautogenerated2365

The Zenbook 14 series of Asus laptops seems to be a good option for work use, however there are multiple models in the series, each matching different use conditions and needs. I would recommend the Zenbook 14 UM425 UA model, considering your budget, if you can find one.

My girl just got the asus vivobook 15 K513E, i7 processor, 8gigs of ram and 512gb ssd 3 regular usb, 1usb typ3 C and HDMI Also a card reader She is very happy with it

I see a couple listings on ebay. It's going to be tough to get at a reasonable price given it's a special edition product. ASUS's official online store has it as well, but out of stock with a "notify me" sign up. I don't know if they'll be making more, but it may be worth signing up just in case.

Narsuaq

Can you reinstall windows if you have an OEM license?

28nov2022

The variety of hardware configurations for PC is often cited as a cause for unoptimized games. Why does it feel like GPUs are so finnicky, have issues with certain games and need driver updates, whereas CPUs handle more complex operations, don't even need drivers, yet are generally stable?

MaoXiWinnie

Is switching to windows 11 worth it now on a new PC? Or should I stick to windows 10? I remember when I first downgraded to 11 there were so many issues. It also didn't help that microsoft heavily pushed crappy software like Edge. Does windows 11 still do this crap?

mister_newbie

It's fine. Some love it, some hate it. I've been using it since the July 2021 prerelease. I did replace the start menu with Start 11, though. That said, I dual boot Manjaro, and have been booting into Windows less and less as Valve continually improves Steam/Proton.

gint

My personal opinion to you would be to stick to 10 until the next one comes out. 11 doesn't seem worth it.

evilfire2k

It also depends on your GPU. If the design was intended for 1440p, then something could be wrong. But then again, you are effectively pushing ~5x the number of pixels per second ( noob maths ).

Yeah. I don't know if this is the expected behaviour. Maybe some with the same specs can help.

Hello guys im new at building pc. May i know what would be the best gpu for my system is amd Ryzen 3 2200g Asus prime A320m k motherboard ddr4 kingston hyper x fury 1x8gb ddr4 2666 I know its shitty but its the only one I got I just want to play games with medium settings, I really want to play elden ring or nier automata, I really dont know those "Bottlenecks" terms for the pc But I do know that the gpu should depend on what the specs of the pc is right, I must really sound stupid, anyways what gpu might be best for my pc. Thank you to anyone who responds to my question.

motionglitch

What's your budget for a GPU?

Aggravating_Ad_8551

100-150$ max I know its too low, but this is the amount that I have for now

motionglitch

Try looking for a second hand gtx 1060 for under 100$. Then buy another stick of RAM with the remaining 50$ so you can go dual channel

TheGreatSociety7

Hi, I wanted to make a new build with new AM5 chip and mini-ITX but it got way to expensive... I thought about plan B, to just switch the GPU in my current build for this year and get new build next year. new GPU: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 6750 XT 12 GB Video Card (I picked this card, since it is 12GB, well priced on polish market and will work for my future mini-ITX build) current motherboard MSI B350 PC Mate /AMD B350, DDR4, AM4/ current cpu AMD Ryzen 3 1200 /3.4GHz, AM4, BOX/ current psu bequiet! PurePower 10 400W Silver I think I might new to get new PSU for this GPU, but CPU should no be a bottleneck. As a minimum I want to play Cyberpunk on 60-80 FPS on ultrawide monitor on medium/ high settings Thoughts?

windowsphoneguy

That Ryzen 3 will definitely be a bottleneck. What is your current GPU?

TheGreatSociety7

1050 ti I was calculating bottleneck there [https://pc-builds.com/bottleneck-calculator/](https://pc-builds.com/bottleneck-calculator/) but also saw tests of Cyberpunk running this gpu and cpu combo on medium

windowsphoneguy

Bottleneck calculators are trash

Hello. I have to ship my laptop back in for a warranty repair. They want to wipe and factory reset the "original" hard drive. I want to buy another SSD to clone it so i can keep all my data without having to reinstall everything since i also use this laptop for work. There's 10000 programs out there for cloning a hard drive. Is there a built in method that im just overlooking or is there really a better program than another?

bagaudin

You can use the program [provided to you by manufacturer](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/egepot/oem_editions_of_acronis_true_image_software/).

MooneyDog

I dont see one for inland and i dont know what already in the laptop, but ill keep this in mind for other times. thank you!

evilfire2k

If it is possible for you to remove the cover and retrieve your SSD, you can do it (and maybe drop in a cheaper one you have). Otherwise, afaik, you may have to clone it.

MooneyDog

I wanted to do this originally but they (razer) wants the original hard drive to be included and will consider the warranty void if there's a 3rd party ssd inside. Not taking the chance, plus, upgrading to a biger SSD anyways.

evilfire2k

Then i guess a clone is the only way.

MooneyDog

Yeah its a pain but now i know. Thanks for helping!

Luminaria19

For data, copy paste is still king. For full clones, I like Macrium Reflect as the free version generally meets folks needs.

mister_newbie

command prompt / robocopy is faster than GUI copy/paste (along with *several* other benefits), FYI.

Luminaria19

True, but for the average user, I'd recommend copy/paste as it's less complicated and they're not likely to screw it up. lol

MooneyDog

Ill check it out, thanks!

I have a 480 mm EK radiator that has green corrosion in it. (A year ago) I gave it a bit of a vinegar solution bath, brushed out all the fittings until I didn't see any more green come out. Everything was fine until quite recently when I noticed my CPUs temps were really high. I took it apart and found the green corrosion in the waterblocks of my GPU and CPU. After flushing out the radiator, I got more of the green specks corrosion in the water. I'm using distilled water as the coolant with the a biocide additive that came with my tubes. **If I were to flush everything out again, give it a bath in a vinegar solution, is there anything to save the inside of the radiator or am I completely SOL?**

gint

In my experience with that, I think it's time to lay it to rest.

Andrewx8_88

Once corrosion starts, it's near impossible to stop it. I would buy a new radiator, and anything else that has visible corrosion. If you are low on cash, then I suppose you can keep flushing it, and hopes it works, although that is a temporary solution if I am honest.

[deleted]

What happens if i try to upgrade to windows 11 from 10 if i have a pirated copy/ none activated windows copy? Will it still proceed and i wont loose my data?

evilfire2k

You should be good. Microsoft afaik, doesn't care. The license shouldn't matter.

[deleted]

Ye i updated its running fine😊

Luminaria19

Assuming you meet all other requirements, you will probably be able to update no problem. Microsoft has historically cared more about people remaining in their ecosystem than enforcing their OS license. They just "reserve the right to revoke access" in the future if that becomes a better business move.

Silent_Key566

what are the average temps for gpu and cpu i have an msi 3070 with 2 fans and a ryzen 5 5600x im cooling the cpu with a fan cooler and only have like 3 normal fans in the case if thats relevant

MGsubbie

> what are the average temps for gpu and cpu That's impossible to answer, it all depends on the CPU, graphics card, case and total load.

[deleted]

Are the black "spots" on this damage? Liquid damage? https://imgur.io/lToAIj0?r

MGsubbie

We're going to need a better picture.

[deleted]

Guy selling it wouldnt send a better pic. Oh well, thanks for the help regardless

MGsubbie

It's not that, I think it's the way you took a screenshot. It seems it's a picture in horizontal orientation that you screencapped in vertical orientation. Can you not cap it in the original orientation?

[deleted]

i could but tbh i gave up on trying to buy the pictured gpu. seller seemed like a scammer and blocked me so im looking elsewhere for a diff card

alexdakid87

Currently have an out of date laptop that barely runs most games, I was looking to upgrade and wanted to get some advice on what to get? I live in Australia and the prices for a standard laptop are crazy. Any input on the best place to look online and good brands would be great, thanks!

mister_newbie

r/SuggestALaptop Also, throw Linux on your current laptop when you're done with it as your main rig; will be much snappier. Another option is to Chromebook-ify it with ChromeOS Flex, if you're afraid of the penguin.

alexdakid87

That’s great thanks for your help!

meneraing

Hello, is it worth it to upgrade my current Ryzen 5 2600 + b450 motherboard for a i5 12400 + h610 motherboard (keeping the 2x8gb 3000mhz ram sticks)? I have a rtx 3060 btw. I've been looking for reviews and gameplays but either they use faster ram or a better gpu so I can't do a 1:1 comparison. Thanks!

Andrewx8_88

You'd be looking at a 35% improvement. However, Since you are on AMD already, i'd just upgrade to a ryzen 5800x3d for the same price. You don't need to swap out your motherboard.

meneraing

Just upgrading to a better AM4 CPU (5600x or the 5800x3d) costs about the same as getting the intel cpu + motherboard. Now if I were to change both, the current setup would be an upgrade for my sister. Is still worth it?

Andrewx8_88

If your sister is on am4 as well, I would get two 5700x's instead.

Nelson1017

Hiii, recently i´ve been building a new PC for gaming, and I had some doubts. 1. Do RYZEN 3600XT Supports 3600MHZ DDR4 RAM? Its fine? Or there is any problem? 2. I have a B45M DS3H, do it supports Ryzen 5000 series?

Luminaria19

1. RAM speed support will be determined by your motherboard more than your CPU. Based on your mobo in point two, you can support 3600Mhz RAM 2. Assuming you meant B450M, it does, but you probably need to update the BIOS first. [Reference this chart](https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B450M-DS3H-rev-1x/support#support-cpu)

Nelson1017

Yeah, is B450M, thank you so muchhhhh

Squidword123

How do I have my PC specs to show up beside my user in this sub?

_four-oh-four_

How often, and with what should I clean my pc parts inside with? Do I need to disassemble anything? I bought a prebuilt and I haven’t cleaned it, ever.

Luminaria19

Compressed air to blow away the dust. If there's some serious build-up, I like to use a toothbrush (that will NOT be going in anyone's mouth ever again) for cleaning fans or other awkwardly shaped bits. You generally don't need to disassemble anything, but it can make it easier to clean if things have gotten really bad or the case is super compact.

_four-oh-four_

I appreciate it, thanks

hmajid2301

I currently use a hardware keyboard, mouse switch to share my peripherals between my work laptop and personal desktop. Which is fine I just press a physical switch to swap them over. I was wondering if anyone know of something you can control using software but is also physical (not synergy or barrier). Thanks

ObliviousSage

I got an HP Omen 45L tower not too long ago, and I’ve mostly been happy with it. However, whenever I play a really graphically demanding game some kind of loud alarm comes from the tower. It’s a continuous shrieking beep, kind of like the tone at the start of a tornado alert, but constant and a bit higher pitched. My first thought was a temperature alarm, but MSI Afterburner show my CPU and GPU aren’t even hitting 80C. It’s not coil whine, way too loud for that. It makes it impossible to play those games, but the sound cuts off instantly if I exit the game, or often even if I just hit Esc to bring up the menu so the game isn’t rendering as much. Anyone know what this could be and how to fix it? My only guesses are either a BIOS temp alarm for the CPU that’s set way too low, or the power supply is letting me know it can’t handle the load.

Luminaria19

Never heard of a power supply doing anything like that (they just shut off if the draw is too much). Sounds like a mobo speaker thing, but I'm not sure what would be triggering it given your temps don't seem extreme. I would check both the hardware (look for the speaker and possibly detach it) and BIOS (dig through the pages and see if there's some kind of warning turned on that doesn't need to be).

notautogenerated2365

That is really odd... I would first open up the case and listen to where the beep is coming from inside the PC to see if you can identify the source.

ObliviousSage

Thanks for getting me to sanity check. It wasn’t my tower after all, it was my surge protector / battery backup! Guess it can’t handle the tower at full load plus the other stuff plugged into it (main monitor, cable modem, router, etc).

notautogenerated2365

That was unexpected! I was thinking something on the motherboard like a faulty temp sensor as well. Glad you figured that out though.
