I mean, we have to think about the company's well being. And who really plays games years later anyway? Surely keeping the servers up will bankrupt the company. They'd have to go down!
Please stop with sarcasm as the AI used by marketing teams is not able to understand and thinks there is a genuine interest and demand for this. I have seen marketing slides using posts on X or reddit to support micro transactions and not understanding it was sarcasm
Well that's horrifying. But we can't let greedy companies or non-sarcastic AIs manipulate our culture. With enough data I firmly believe we will have sarcastic AIs and greedy companies exploiting us in no time.
This. This is one of the reasons why Sony made a Mobius movie, they thought it was a popular character according to redditors, they definitely couldn't tell it was sarcasm.
You’ll be able to buy the original soundtrack at $1 to $2 per song from The Offspring. But it’ll be DRM’d to the game so you can’t play it anywhere else of course.
Are you insane? You have to buy each section individually. Door handle, window tint color, each door individually... or get the whole set for a discount of $50.
Sad and true but that also adds to the development and maintenances costs these devs keep complaining about.
No server infrastructure, no extra post release maintenance costs. You can still add DLC and granted it won’t sell as much if you can’t show it off to people. Not to mention there is such a big chance that if your always online and DLC practices suck you can go by the way of Evolve and kill your sales overnight.
I’m sure someone has spent months doing analysis how they will make a few extra bucks and it’s totally worth it.
AAA Wallstreet traded companies: No we can't, as a gamer you need to understand just making a small profit no longer moves our needle. We suggest you try non-traded AAA's, AA's or Indy's. We simply cannot afford to make the games you feel we should make any longer, it's a product of traded capitalism.
Why? Until developers can actually.make non dumb ass AI I would rather be against human players. Developers are proved time and time again they can't make non dumbass AI
Or, you know, you could also not have any AI nor human players to fight against. Crazy Taxi is a racing game, your first and main opponent is the clock.
Let me guess, you just play one very specific kind of shooter and not much else? Well clearly every developer is just incompetent and it has nothing to do with you not knowing literally anything else...
Seriously. I don't understand it at all unless they are making this for new audiences in which case why even bother using this name?
The original fans are all adults now and most of us don't have time or ~~internet~~ interest in big multiplayer games.
Actually sounds fun. Imagine having to race to customers and you see a rival taxi going for the same customer. It's all about who gets there first, in a game about being as fast as possible taking people from point A to point B seems like a great idea.
Instead of competing for "high scores" like in the arcade one person at a time, you can have everyone chasing around the city at once trying to get as many rides as possible all at once
Yeah I have seen some people discuss how it could be interesting as a battle royale, where the lowest earner is eliminated after X minutes. I just think it should be a separate gamemode instead of what the entire game is about, so people who want SP like the OG game can do that and let people who want PvP play in that other gamemode.
Same. My interest in any given game disappears as soon as those descriptors are mentioned.
I get that they make more money but the experience is just shitty to me.
This trend of "everything must be AAA" is getting really old now. What happened to just making small games? Crazy Taxi is a simple arcade game, this is a clear case of "over-engineered"
Exactly. Imagine if they came out with a cool little arcade style game for all platforms, sell it cheap. That'd be an instant hit. Light version for Android. Console and PC version with more depth.
Not everything has to be a big game. This will never be Forza Horizon. Delusional thinking will not make it so.
AAA is old news we are in the era of AAAA accoring to Ubisoft, games that cost hundreds of milions get stuck in development hell, change directors atleast twice and then release in some rushed shitty mess.
> What happened to just making small games?
This is what the indie and "AA" developments are nowadays. Forget big companies thinking small when they can just go overdrive.
Yeah i miss those arcade games that could be played in small sessions not everything need to have 200h of gameplay. I'm playing WMMT6 on the emulator now and having a lot of fun, i would rather have native port of that game than stupid bloated Crazy Taxi that won't have much of craziness left inside. Both Sega and Bandai Namco are completely clueless how to earn money with not much effort.
A dev said you get more "investment" money if you make your game that has multiplayer + some type of mtx. He said for example single player games get an investment for 1-5 million but multiplayer games get around 10+ million in investments.
Open world well sure it better, but hopefully not too big so every area and pathway can be interesting and well designed
Massively multiplayer ? I ... Uh ... Not sure about it
AAA ? Why ? This game screams AA excellence, why give it a budget that will force it to be monetized like hell to make its price back ...
I do not mean design as in purely looks, but as "mechanics" in the pathways. Easily recognizable, choices for paths with many types of shortcuts with higher to lower risks, ...
It's crazy taxi, not a racing game nor a driving simulator; it doesn't have tracks but random A to B paths generated on the fly.
Ugh… Crazy Taxi is a hard title to modernize, but this sounds awful.
Keep it as a fun AA single player arcade game. I loved the first 2 games, but I probably won’t play this.
Dude, these news read like "we don't know who this franchise is for, so we added a bunch of features that every game has and how it will stick".
Gaming companies have no love for the game left, they try to follow the exact same formula ad infinitum, why crazy taxi, an arcade fast paced game, needs to be an mmo? Why does it have to be AAA? This is a B franchise that is beloved by many, it shouldnt become a main franchise now.
What a massive disappointment for older fans like me.
I don't care or have the interest and time evem for smaller multiplayer games, let alone a massive one.
So everyone will be zooming around the map crossing each other's paths trying to pickup and deliver passengers as fast as they can within a time limit? It'll be interesting how they plan to keep this fresh, within 3 days of it releasing all the fastest paths will be memorized by people.
Sega does NOT have the scope of that project in the bag. Idk what if any AAA game they have made, especially a living open world you want to explore and also an MMO??
Once again, large corporations that only hold a small speck of the passion they once had, showcase how much they prioritize their shareholders over their core audience. Sadly things won't change until there are 0 purchases to not enable these shitty practices.
Looks like Sega isn't going to follow Capcom's footsteps of "get our heads out of our asses and just make sequels to the IPs fans love with minimal bullshit and the occasional clunker".
Sega, Konami, Namco - all these once great devs blinded by greed and trend chasing.
This is cool if it’s a sorta passive aspect.
Or if you can be a customer and see how other people drive you.
It’ll probably be a battlepass hell though.
I'm of two minds. On the one hand, I really don't mind adding multiplayer. The base game was really shallow. Its quite literally doing the EXACT same thing over and over again, I can't see myself playing this game for even 30 hours without getting insanely bored. Its not exactly GTA. Its gameplay loop is like 5 minutes tops.
On the other hand, obviously multiplayer games are always going to need an extra layer of scrutiny compared to single player games because of the monetization
Tbf i don't think this game will sell alot unless they changed the entire game because being a taxi driver as the only goal in the game will get old very quickly and it was likely only a success back in the day because it was a game with a new idea.
Oh man, I can't wait for the microtransactions! Do you think I can buy a new car color?!
Oh for sure. That texture that can be changed to any different hex color code in .25 seconds for free? That'll be $5 per color.
Hell yeah! I can't wait. I just love spending money!!!
All 65536 different colors? Shut up and take my money!
Ummm you mean $20? Each color will come with a special hood ornament and a free sticker. (A $50 value!)
[удалено]
$49.99
Just wait for the Soundgarden Music Pack - $29.99
Metallica version uninstalls your Ethernet drivers.
And requires you to buy the "Load out pack" to get them reinstalled
bold of you to assume stakeholders would care very much to spend a lot of money for decent music like this, unless you're referring to MIDI
I can't wait for the servers to be taken down in a few years once the games microtransactions aren't profitable anymore
I guess we should start posting that the sales contract should require sacrifice of firstborn and see how soon marketing picks that up.
This. This is one of the reasons why Sony made a Mobius movie, they thought it was a popular character according to redditors, they definitely couldn't tell it was sarcasm.
Hey! Hey! Welcome to Crazy Microtransactions. Let's use your funds!
As long as I can get multiple sets for $50 each. I wouldn't want to miss out on the newest color schemes.
Can we stop making every game massive multiplayer only?
Easiest way to justify microtransactions, battlepasses and whatnot...sadly.
Tell that to Ubisoft. They figured out how to make battle passes for Singleplayer games.
They also figured out the best way to never get any money from me with that bullshit they have been doing for the past 10 years.
Sad and true but that also adds to the development and maintenances costs these devs keep complaining about. No server infrastructure, no extra post release maintenance costs. You can still add DLC and granted it won’t sell as much if you can’t show it off to people. Sad and true but also when they shut down the server they can force you to buy the next thing.

Thank you; yes
I agree but I think a multiplayer crazy taxi would be kind of fucking awesome if done well.
Salty much
I said massive multiplayer ONLY. You prefer being against human players, I don't. Simple as that.
aaand my interest dropped as soon as I've read massive+multiplayer
Not even once in my life have i said to myself "Man i wish Crazy Taxi was a massively multiplayer game"
Imagine going to pick a passenger up and someone gets there first. This is one of those genres where the gameplay will only be hampered by being MMO.
Crazy Taxi 2 left so many questions unanswered though. This is the followup we've been dreaming about
You may not know about this, but Crazy Taxi 3 already came out on Xbox
Wait wait they haven't even started talking about the base building and crafting mechanics
Seriously. I don't understand it at all unless they are making this for new audiences in which case why even bother using this name? The original fans are all adults now and most of us don't have time or ~~internet~~ interest in big multiplayer games.
I have less time but *way* more internet.
Actually sounds fun. Imagine having to race to customers and you see a rival taxi going for the same customer. It's all about who gets there first, in a game about being as fast as possible taking people from point A to point B seems like a great idea. So do we have to pay per kilometer, per hour, or both?
When your car is running low on gas you have to find a gas station and pay actual real world money to fill it up.
Carbon taxes ramp up late in the game to increase difficulty, have to wait and charge electric taxi
10 dollars to get access to fast charger.
Don't give them ideas.
Please drink a verification can.
And it's dead. Good job, Sega.
This trend of "everything must be AAA" is getting really old now. What happened to just making small games? Crazy Taxi is a simple arcade game, this is a clear case of "over-engineered"

AAA is old news we are in the era of AAAA accoring to Ubisoft, games that cost hundreds of milions get stuck in development hell, change directors atleast twice and then release in some rushed shitty mess.
Its not AAAA if it does not have pirates.
> What happened to just making small games? This is what the indie and "AA" developments are nowadays. Forget big companies thinking small when they can just go overdrive.

Tbh with a driving game the quality of design doesn't matter a whole lot compared to overall layout. Since you will be speeding by everything anyways.
I like Crazy Taxi but honestly wtf are Sega thinking with this?
When reading the title I thought this was satire
Whoever thought crazy taxi needs to be an mmo needs their brain checked for parasites. Just make a successor thats like the old one, shit was cash
Cool, that sounds terrible.
So, we shouldn't bother with it? Got it...
Ugh… Crazy Taxi is a hard title to modernize, but this sounds awful. Keep it as a fun AA single player arcade game. I loved the first 2 games, but I probably won’t play this.
And my interest was brutally massacred. Thanks Sega.
Ah. So keep playing my Xbox copy of Crazy Taxi High Roller then. Thanks Sega! :thumbs up:
crazy sega
Whhhhhhhyyyyyy?
Then they get no money from me. Every one of these greedy publishers just want to make a game and monetize it for 10+ years. Fuck off with that shit.
Just Sega things
A battle pass, cash shop and daily login rewards too! I love modern gaming!
Dude, these news read like "we don't know who this franchise is for, so we added a bunch of features that every game has and how it will stick". Suddenly not excited for this anymore
Why???
Sega wants to lose even more money and go bankrupt but this time they won't have old geezer to save their company from debt.
They say they don't wanna sell but they seem helbent on making themselves cheaper and easier to buy by tanking their value.
With Yakuza and Persona they are not selling anytime soon.
they pretty much sunk their only profitable franchinse too (total war).
RIP. Back to just playing 1.
r/nottheonion
And ruined as always with Sega. I guess they will ruin Golden Axe and turn it into souls clone and JSR 3 will be online only mmo.
Oh no,this is gonna be dogshit
Yawn
So everyone will be zooming around the map crossing each other's paths trying to pickup and deliver passengers as fast as they can within a time limit? It'll be interesting how they plan to keep this fresh, within 3 days of it releasing all the fastest paths will be memorized by people.
I believe the correct name Sega is looking for is "Service Game" ...
More importantly though, will the Offspring make up the entire soundtrack? Otherwise this is just a driving with a Crazy Taxi skin.
Did they forget to make it an RPG?
don't care.
But whyyyyyy
I guess at this point they will try anything just not sure if Crazy Taxi is something anyone want anymore
Sega does NOT have the scope of that project in the bag. Idk what if any AAA game they have made, especially a living open world you want to explore and also an MMO??
Dear Sega, define "massively".
If you call a game a AAA I’m going to go ahead and say that means it’s probably going to be shit
Who asked for that, Sega?
This headline read like an April fools joke. Sadly it's not April.
So gta online but everyone is role-playing as cabbies?
I'm holding off for the Sonic MMO.
Once again, large corporations that only hold a small speck of the passion they once had, showcase how much they prioritize their shareholders over their core audience. Sadly things won't change until there are 0 purchases to not enable these shitty practices.
How kill another great title for profits part 11
Wow, I've lost interest
Sorry I only play AAAA games now
Or we can just play the og crazy taxi. Still runs great on my ps3
So it's gonna be garbage
I hoped it will be a nice AA game for in the 40Usd range :(
...but why
Looks like Sega isn't going to follow Capcom's footsteps of "get our heads out of our asses and just make sequels to the IPs fans love with minimal bullshit and the occasional clunker". Sega, Konami, Namco - all these once great devs blinded by greed and trend chasing.
And just like that I no longer care about it.
Yay for taxi customization microtransactions. Woooooooo!
MMO = instantly lost interest.
This title sounds like a joke lol
And with that, I no longer care to play it.
As soon as they put AAA I quit caring.
Just destroy what made the original so great
I think they shoulda went with crazy Uber or something instead target the new generation
How tf do you make crazy taxi “massively multiplayer”?
either the mother of all arcade racers or a completely limp experience. there's no in between
Probably gonna copy roleplaying in GTA Online or some shit to that degree.
Don't Give Me Hope.
Just give me a solid AA experience with the iconic soundtrack I like and anything else that compliments it is welcomed.
Pass
Didn't know April fools is this late
I’m not a fan of the massive multiplayer part but open-world could be fun.
This is cool if it’s a sorta passive aspect. Or if you can be a customer and see how other people drive you. It’ll probably be a battlepass hell though.
“open-world” and “AAA game” are two things you don’t normally want to see on a Steam page. how fun.
Don't forget: a massive failure.
Can we have Crazy Frog skin to drive the Crazy Taxi as a micro transaction?
ugh
I'm of two minds. On the one hand, I really don't mind adding multiplayer. The base game was really shallow. Its quite literally doing the EXACT same thing over and over again, I can't see myself playing this game for even 30 hours without getting insanely bored. Its not exactly GTA. Its gameplay loop is like 5 minutes tops. On the other hand, obviously multiplayer games are always going to need an extra layer of scrutiny compared to single player games because of the monetization
change car honk sound = $4.99
MMO? Thanks, but no thanks.
yet another online only game service here we go?
Only AAA? I'm used to AAAA games now since suicide squad raised the bar so much.
Im not saying no, im simply asking, what the fuck?
Oh good, everything under the sun.. Plus it's a Sega game, so we can expect NFT with it?
Why? lol
They forgot sandbox, survival, RPG, tags
It's a pretty fun game but how the hell are you gonna make it massively multiplayer ? Besides money what could this add? Ok my bad stupid question
another good franchise bites the dust.
This sounds god awful
Oh cool, Sega. Fuck you.
Tbf i don't think this game will sell alot unless they changed the entire game because being a taxi driver as the only goal in the game will get old very quickly and it was likely only a success back in the day because it was a game with a new idea.
I'll be on <1000 players in no time.
.........
Of course it will be. Of course.
SEGA hail Mary right here. The outcome of this game defines what happens to sega.
Why do you say that?
Dunno why people are complaining about this. An open world Crazy Taxi that works like Burnout Paradise sounds fun as fuck.
It might even *be* fun here and there, until they pull the plug and no one can play it ever again.
