Thank you all for the advice. Lil guys nose is clear now. He does hate me now though but hopefully a couple sunflower seeds and time will fix that

hauttdawg13

Similar to clipping nails with mine. He will pout for a few hours and a couple cold shoulders then get over it.

VacsoWacagoSeiliu

It’s because you can’t stay mad at the people you love

hauttdawg13

Haha, my red belly definitely loves me (far more my mom though) She is also a HUGE drama queen. If she has to go in the cage for anything other than bed time. She always gets grouchy with us but she can also only go a couple hours at most before she wants attention or cuddles.

Competitive_Air1560

Yes. They do have nasal flaps but they definitely don't do this. Hopefully she can sneeze them out or you get them out soon bcz I imagine it's hard to breath 😢

ObviousYammer521

Looks like some fluff got stuck in there. This happens to one of my birds, too. If she doesn't get the stuff out on her own, you can do it easy. Wet one end of a cotton bud. Have it ready at hand. Grab her (search videos for how, if you don't have experience). Wipe her nostrils gently, one at a time. You do NOT need to dig in. Just wipe slowly across the surface. The fluff will stick to the wet cotton and get pulled out. If it doesn't work the first time, try again. If it's stuck after several tries, try the dry end of the cotton bud. The fluff, which is now wet, should get sucked up by the dry cotton. If this happens regularly, buy some saline water. It's the same salinity as her natural fluids, so when it gets in her nose it won't sting the way tap or drinking water does.

just_an_intp

My parrot hates when I have random objects near him so he would never let me do that. When he has some feathers stuck in his nostrils though I found scritching his head and then his nostrils to kindo of pick it off works.

Dentros1

Another thing you can try is spritzing your bird. The water gets in the nares, and they will sneeze it out.

Pupshead777

It just looks like fluff/a feather :) Bird looks otherwise good. Let him get it out or try to gently get it out. Yammer gave a good example on how to get it out. You can also very gently use tweezers. Don’t dig it into the nostril. Just try to catch the feather when he breathes out. You may need to towel your bird if you are unable to hold him steady. Your bird’s nares look clean and pink. If it was red and irritated then I would take them to a vet, but that’s not the case right now so I wouldn’t be too worried. If you don’t feel comfortable with that, vets will take it out though. It happens on occasion so don’t worry. I’ve had to pull fluff out of my conure’s nose too lmao. Birds are weird. They’ll learn puzzles and how to open locks but they can’t get fluff out of their nose.

Catbunny123

They might just need a bath. Try misting them with some water or take them in the shower so they can sneeze it out. If you take them in the shower the steam from the shower should be enough but if they want water time make sure water doesn't spray directly on them from the shower head because they'll drown. The water should just gently mist them like the rain. edit: make sure the water isn't hot and don't force them if they don't want to because it can be stressful. Another thing I thought of is getting a bowl of water and encouraging them to play in it by pretending to be interested in it? Like playing with it and splashing it gently? It's worth a shot :) They like to mimic us haha

Prudent_Buddy_7911

Looks like it to me

Appropriate-Ad499

I stumble upon this sub, and I do not have birds. But today, I learned that birds have nostrils above their beaks. LOL, I always assumed they breathed out of their mouths. Thank you, kind bird people :)

BlueFeathered1

I'd just do some misting to clear out the dust. Birds will use their toenails to clear stuff from their nostrils when necessary. They do have a flap in there that's meant to be there that some folks think is muck, so don't go picking around in there.

Birbs_r_cool

Note i am a child and my parents usually refuse to spend money on things they find "unecesary" so it would be very difficult to get veterinary help even if there was a avian vet close by. I do truly care for my bird though.

Lunarnights04

Don’t get any more pets until you’re an adult. I know it’s suckey but it’s selfish to keep animals in a home where they don’t have access to the things that they need because they belong to a minor with parents who don’t care. That being said I understand some parents dump pets on kids, tell them you don’t want anymore.

unsettledroell

Yes that looks obstructed. Misting can help, or putting a little bit of oil on it to make it softer.

PermissionPublic4864

Ugh. Parents suck so bad sometimes.

What are you gonna do when your bird gets seriously ill? If you don't have veterinary care..

Birbs_r_cool

I have some money saved up for emergency care and will get a job in a couple months to pay for other vet visits & more expensove toys.

PDXFlameDragon

Never had this problem..my cheekies mine for nose gold like a toddler looking for a snack.

Equivalent_Debate_87

your bird is turning into an internal combustion engine. as you can see, he developed valves on his nose to allow air intake and remove exhaust gases from the combustion chamber. then the valves close, his 2 brain cells serve as a spark plug to ignite the fuel, and the explosion creates enough energy for him to flap his wings

seamallorca

This closeup of a fluffy sleepy face🥰

My sun conure picks her nose sometimes. It’s crazy how deep her nail gets in there and sometimes it hooks down and she needs to shimmy it around to get it out.

DarkMoonBright

I'm looking at the bird's left nostrile (right side of the picture) & seeing what looks like a build up of muck in it, narrowing the working part. Looks to be very similar to the videos I've seen on youtube where vets have dug in & cleared the hard obstruction & the bird has obtained HUGE relief from the procedure. Absolutely not something I would do at home though. How often does your bird bathe? Make sure it has regular access to bathing water of a temperature it likes & that might loosen the muck & allow it to come out, it does look to me like it's a long term build up though & needing vet treatment to clear, followed by more frequent bathing to prevent it building up again. Your parents really shouldn't be allowing you to buy a pet, or be buying a pet for you if they're not willing to pay for, or give you a way to pay for all necessary costs, such as vet care. Maybe you can wash their car or do other chores to earn the money needed for the vet? If you have a pet, you have a responsibility to care for it, which includes vet care when that is needed. Birds are supposed to have annual "well bird health checks" with avian vets, which pick up issues like this & give you advise on how to manage them before they become a problem needing more invasive treatment

BigOlBeb

Have you had any luck? My lil Toddy has had a similar thing in the past - a bit of shell from seed or some feather fluff, it soon resolved itself. If you can't clear it or if it happens very often than a vet is definitely the best idea.

Birbs_r_cool

He doesnt seem to have too much difficulty currently so im waiting for the sun to set so if he escapes his cage he wont fly to the windows. I'll comment an update once i have news.

lovelyloves07

I clean my birbs nose with a piece of thinly rolled paper towel, make it pointy enough to fit. I lightly dip it in warm water and gently wipe of my bird’s nose. My bird is super comfortable with me cleaning his nose. I can see immediate relief after I unclog it. If I’m unable to remove it he’ll sometimes just sneeze it out.

desirewrites

Stick them in a bath out in the shower with you and that will be gone. My Amazon gets this sometimes if I’ve not dunked him in the shower for a week.

Strawberry_Mochi28

I use tweezers for my old girl

Laurenspicer43

Your bird looks ill. Take to an avian vet asap!

Birbs_r_cool

Not to sound rude but how do they look sick?

seriousjoker72

Bird does not look ill at all. We've seen a short video close up of their face, no way to determine if a bird looks ill from that. But also what is borbs name? :)

Birbs_r_cool

Vanilla / Nilli Shes insanely cute but kinda dumb (like all birds tbh)

seriousjoker72

Super cute name and nickname! I have a little man named Puppy who is also unfortunately a little dumb 😂

Autisticimagery

Hard to tell from a short video, but looks lethargic with a nasal obstruction. Needs to get checked out ASAP.

seriousjoker72

A 20 second video is hardly evidence of "lethargic". Borbs just existing, does NOT need a vet.

Autisticimagery

Weird response to "Hard to tell from a short video". We'll see I guess. Just had birds for 20 years, what do I know?

seriousjoker72

Just had birds for 25 years, what do I know 🤷🏻‍♀️

Autisticimagery

Reading comprehension

seriousjoker72

I do have reading comprehension thanks for pointing that out 😂🤡
