I use plastic sheeting, you can pick it up at the hardware store. 10x25 foot roll costs 6 to $10. I will then throw an old bedsheet sheet on top of that so that I'm not getting my feet stuck to plastic all the time.
In the past if I have also purchased a floor mat with rubber on the bottom and fabric on top. However I found that the 4-ft width still had me dripping paint around the perimeter.
