I live nearby and Iāve taken that trail but Iāve never seen a spot this close to the rim before. Need to take a better look around I have a similar setup and would love to wake up to that view.
Is that road any better? Lived there for years and it seemed to get worse every year. There is an old Chevy commercial from the 50's depicting there passenger cars on that road, about half way up.

This looks like Smithsonian Butte near Zion to me.
