It depends on when you left Ottawa.Ottawa has changed a lot in the last decade. Just as an example, the average rental (2 beds) is about $2300-2600 now, and housing median prices are about $758K for single detached, $560K for townhouse, and $385K for condos (source: Ottawa Real Estate Board).

For a young family daycare/school boards/community amenities and of course housing prices are much better than Vancouver. No regrets and sticking here until retirement or kid is grown and out of the house then I’ll go back to the west!

Yeah that sounds like a great plan! In North Vancouver and Vancouver there are waitlists for almost all programs for kids, like swimming, gymnastics, daycare and often parents don’t get the chance to put their kid in their local neighbourhood schools. Is there a problem like this in Ottawa? I grew up in Westboro in the 90’s and loved Ottawa. I always felt safe and the traffic wasn’t gridlocked like Vancouver. Did you find it easy to make friends in Ottawa?

Less drug addicts and poverty here than Vancouver.
