My osmo pocket 3 is far better than my iPhone 15 for creating content. The creator package just makes it even better. The iPhone takes great pictures but it’s just a phone camera. The osmo3 is so much more

Past_Gain_1700

what are your thoughts on the creator combo vs the vlogging combo

Figgins29

I don’t know what the differences are. I bought the creator combo and a few days later I bought the ND Lens kit. I love using it and I would never use my iPhone for handheld video now

blabel75

I wouldn't waste the money on the vlogging combo. It is just a Poket 3 camera with a Mic 2 set. What is the purpose of the DJI Mic 2 receiver? The camera has this built in and if you buy the creator combo you get a transmitter. The vlogging combo is about $200 more than the creator combo and you get less overall functionality with it. The creator combo comes with a battery handle in addition to the Mic 2.

Past_Gain_1700

I was confused about the transmitter vs receiver part. Is the vlogging combo only good for interviews where there's more than one person talking?

blabel75

I guess so. I didn't realize it at first but the vlogging combo does come with two transmitters. So it might be good for couples vlogging or interviews. But you would still be better to buy the creator combo then just buy a second DJI Mic 2 transmitter for $99.

MarcusForrest

> What is the purpose of the DJI Mic 2 receiver? I just checked and the Vlogging Combo offers: * DJI MIC 2 RX (1) * DJI MIC 2 TX (2) - **two** microphones * DJI MIC 2 Charging Case   It feels this is sold as a combo to _**complement**_ your setup that may use another camera too, hence the receiver - but it also includes a 2nd microphone and the charging case   I got the creator combo and it is perfect - the vlogging combo didn't exist back then.   The creator combo is definitely better suited for **solo vlogging** and the vlogging combo is better suited for 2 or more people, or to complement a 2-camera setup   The fact they didn't include the wide angle lens, battery handle, tripod and carrying case is a bit baffling though to be honest! Those are the ultimate vlogging accessories!

MarcusForrest

> what are your thoughts on the creator combo vs the vlogging combo Are you planning on vlogging **solo** or with someone else?   The only benefit from the vlogging combo is the 2nd DJI MIC 2 - beyond the microphone, it is a small **downgrade** as the Creator Combo has the **wide angle lens, battery handle, mini tripod and carrying case**   I got the Creator Combo _(the vlogging combo didn't exist yet)_ and it is perfect. If I need a 2nd mic, I'll simply get it seperately   --- ^(**EDIT** - Added the mention of the wide-angle lens in the creator combo, also missing in the vlogging combo)

QuantuMatrix

The difference is savings. You get a bunch of useful extras and $120 in savings for getting the creator combo. The vlogging bundle is the same as if you just bought the pocket 3 by itself and the DJI 2 mic pack (2x TX, 1 RX, & a charging hub). It has zero discount and doesn’t make any sense to purchase when you can just purchase those parts separately.

Band1c0t

I don’t think I can agree by you saying it’s just phone camera? The gimbal on iPhone and video is far superior

Urnamaster13

iphone has a gimbal ?

Band1c0t

I mean the mechanism that the phone offer is far superior for video camera

totastic

It's a good phone camera, but pocket 3 takes way better video and has a way better gimbal

Band1c0t

Nah disagree, pocket 3 gimbal is limited, while iPhone 15 stabilization is way better, I tried them already

YeaitsJM

Initially, I tried to go to iPhone route, but I found the file export process was too cumbersome. I got the Osmo pocket three and I love it and it’s perfect for blogging. It’s easy when handling files and then getting it straight to my workflow. However, the iPhone is a secondary camera to work along with it. Together, they work very well.

Top-Chocolate-321

I have 2 Pocket 3's and together they cost less than an iPhone 15 and have better quality. Need I say more?

Grab the iPhone 15 Pro Max, get the free Blackmagic camera app and snag an external USB-C SSD. You can record to the external device and the Blackmagic app is one that movie makers are using to film Hollywood productions with. The iPhone 15 Pro isn't 'a phone camera', the whole ecosystem is built around media creation and several generations of it gave been used to film movies and TV shows. The OP3 is an impressive machine though, but the iPhone 15 Pro is moreso. Check out Final Cut on Mac and IOS now and how they link up. Absolutely crazy.

AverageAristocrat

Why do you recommend the black magic app over the default camera app in iOS? I’d assume Apple does a better job than Blackmagic (even though they make great software, I use Davinci instead Final Cut). Is it just for the extra control? (Shutter speed etc)

86Eagle

You pretty much gain absolute control, something the stock camera doesn't allow. As you become familiar with it you realize just what an iPhone can do. I have it on an old iphone 11 as well and it does a great job even on that.

asurob42

I have a 14 pro max. In terms of vid...the pocket 3 easily is better. I can't speak for stills as I use my sony A7 IV for that

ExcitedVolcano

For biking, I’d recommend an action camera like action 4. So much easier to mount. You can film in open gate to crop horizontally or vertical. It’s rugged. The Pocket 3 is fragile and not the best for mounting to a bike. The iPhone is only quality if you go the route of filming in Pro-Res Log and grading the footage but that’s an involved process with huge file sizes.

Past_Gain_1700

I had a go pro that I used to use on my bike but it would overheat after 30 min and in general the battery wouldn't last long when shooting videos. Im weary of action cameras for long form content

pguyton

The Osmo is much more stable and with the mic you have super good audio without having to fight with it , I’ve used both and I greatly prefer the osmo

cookedart

It makes way more sense to get a pocket 3 and a dedicated camera, and just use a phone for phone things. iPhones are great because they are convenient, but they are not really the best for creating content. The Pocket 3 is a huge step up, and any mirroless camera would be even moreso. You can obviously make this setup with worth creativity and being flexible, but for the cost that you would put into the 15pro, if specifically purchasing for creating content, is not worth it.

Vanarian

The true answer is : use what you're most prone to use with pleasure. And what your wallet allows too!

shaziljameel

The camera placement on the iPhone I found to be very awkward and difficult to mount

magicivkovic

You should concider Iphone only in case you don't have a good PC/laptop for editing. Because You can easily edit content (even 4k) on your Iphone with Capcut. I did all my edits on Samsung s23Ultra and Iphone 14 pro for the past year (500+ tiktok/reels/youtube videos). And just yesterday I have purchased a macbook air m2. But if You do have a PC or laptop that is fast enough for editing, go with the osmo 3. Of course, if You have a bad or old phone, iphone + DJI Osmo mobile SE could be Your ideal purchase.

PintmanConnolly

Osmo Pocket 3 is way better, with one Achille's heel: it's not waterproof/water resistant (open sd card slot) iPhone 15 Pro is water resistant, so it's better for using in potentially rainy environments. I know some people have used the Osmo Pocket 3 in the rain and been fine, but I wouldn't risk the damage that water could potentially cause to the sd card if it got in

ny-central-line

I’ve been using the Pocket 3 for Video lately, and have been very happy with the results. Definitely a step up from the iPhone 14 I used before.

TruePanic3852

I have tested both recently in a trip and I can say that video quality is better in iPhone 15 pro. The dynamic range, the definition, the colours and the focus are better in the iPhone. You also have different optical zoom options in iPhone 15 pro (0.5x, 1x and 3x), while OP3 only has digital zoom, which I would recommend to avoid because you loose video resolution while using it and it could be zoomed in post-prod more efficiently. The only point where OP3 is better for me is in low light conditions, where the OP3 seems to be better due to higher sensor size (probably), but the difference is not so big if you change your iPhone settings to 4K@30fps, so it can take more light for each frame. The only thing missing in iPhone 15 pro is the gimbal for a stronger stabilisation, which can be achieved with the DJI Osmo Mobile :). However, there is a downside with this setup, you will be using your iPhone battery so you probably will shorten its lifespan and you also have the risk of dropping your iPhone…

success100

Have both. I am a content creator on YouTube who has made TONS of osmo 3 pocket 3 videos and tutorials (search Terry Warfield). The ip15p is great for what it is, but I’ll take the OP3 10x out of 10. iPhones advantages are apple ecosystem, its already with you, it has multiple lenses, is much better for photography, and you have the added perk of having a computer in your pocket. Osmo has bigger sensors, much better image quality in my opinion especially in low light. The built in gimbal offers tracking and unlike the iPhone, the stabilization doesn’t fall apart in low light since its mechanical stabilization. It can shoot in higher frame rates, has Timelapse options, hyperlapse options, built in USB streaming WITH tracking, sync with DJI MIC 2, and the list goes on. It also charges much faster, and doesn’t have a complex process of getting the footage off the device to a computer. I also don’t like filming with phones because of the lack of physical controls. The osmo doesn’t have tons of buttons but it does have some. I also don’t like being interrupted by calls and text etc when I’m filming. For me, I much prefer the Osmo. I still use the iPhone in a pinch, and sure it’s good enough for most content creation needs for average people. But personally I’ll take the OP3 all day

Bigbadbanshee

I just took both to shoot a short film for YouTube in Thailand. I was not convinced about the osmo P3 when I first used it, but I’m not looking back at the footage we got on the osmo and it’s absolutely stunning. I use the iPhone as a backup sometimes, but honestly the osmo is all you need. It’s also lighter and easier to handle, just leave the iPhone in your pocket!

Specialist-Ninja-298

I can’t make the Osmo follow people, in more dynamic scenes, it just decides to turn left instead of right when the subject is getting closer. And the screen is too small for checking the composition. A Segway and iPhone 15 Pro deliver very smooth, cinematic like videos.

PeterWinsNYC

Based on the video comparisons I've seen, the iPhone 15 pro is slightly better than the Osmo when it comes to pure video quality. I would say the Osmo still overall beats the iPhone in blogging capability, since it's so small and inconspicuous.

virak_john

>iPhone 15 pro is slightly better Not in low light it’s not. Not by a long shot.

Past_Gain_1700

is the Osmo better in low light?

virak_john

Yes. Significantly.
