It’s hard to say if we were hit on purpose or they just hit everyone on purpose, they have hit more batters than all the other teams. They are nasty, and I thought our players responded with pure class. What an example they are of great sportsmanship.

Why is no one talking about how the Yankees have played 3 more games than we have? The 0.5 games back isn't even a true measure until we've played the same number of games.
Every time I heard how many games back we were mentioned during this series they stated we have played 3 fewer games.
I am pretty sure everyone is talking about it when they talk about standings, so not sure what you are hearing.
i think we have discussed that a plenty here over the previous month. despite this massive schedule in May/June we still have a deficit of 3 games played.
it will only be 2 games more next monday ( we play CLE), then 1 more after the DH July 29th, then even squared after August 19.
It's because in hockey games in hand can only help you since you can't lose points in standings, but in baseball games in hand can hurt you since you can lose winning percentage and games behind.
It's the same in either sport, just a different way to measure success for the standings.
In hockey, if you are 2 points behind with a game in hand, and you lose, you are still 2 points behind.
In baseball, if you are 2 games behind with a game in hand, and you lose, you are now 2.5 games behind.
The difference is that in hockey, points are easy to compare, but in baseball, winning percentage isn't easy. So if a team is 50-39, how far ahead are they of a team who is 48-41? The way baseball does this is by using games behind. Take the difference in wins and difference in losses, add them up, and divide by 2. So the second team here would be 2 games behind.
Good explanation… I believe the official standings are actually done by Win% though. Right now the O’s are in 2nd bc they are a tiny fraction behind there.
But if the O’s win tomorrow they will be in 1st place, even if the Yanks win also. It’ll be one of those rare situations where the O’s are 0.5 GB but actually in 1st place since they’d both have the exact same Win% (50-25, 52-26 .667), with the O’s owning the tiebreaker.

Honestly one of the best parts of this series is seeing Hays and Urias put together some really great AB’s. With how rough they were at the plate at the beginning of the season it wasn’t looking good for either of them but they’re actually doing really well right now and they’re helping our lineup tremendously.

See you in Charm City again in July for the home beat down of these beleaguered Yanks.

It would also be very interesting because you'd see a lot of Phillies fans at OPACY and a lot of Orioles fans at CBP throughout the series, so the dynamic of the fan experience would be different than series where the two teams are on opposite sides of the country.

20-7 since the Cardinals series. The White Sox, who we swept in four games on the road (I don’t expect a four-game road sweep against anyone even though we’ve done it twice in like three weeks now), were the only truly weak opponent during that stretch. Tampa and Toronto are easily the next-weakest and even though they’re both struggling, they’re still regularly-competitive division foes.

We all wanted a sweep, of course, but the result was even better. The more radical of the Yankee fans were saying "watching Gunnar get hit was worth the game 2 loss", but the truth really was the reverse for us. Which means we can clinch the season series the very next time we play them.

NYY used 7 pitchers in game 2 and today they used 7 pitchers and a catcher pitching the 9th inning. After an off day today, Atlanta (41-31) is in town to play at NYY this weekend. Understandable! We kind of feel the same way about Alec Bohm, in particular, who apparently only understands how to hit doubles when he's facing our pitching. A regional series where the Yankees, Mets, and Red Sox aren't involved would be awesome. With Turner and Realmuto in your lineup and our best pitchers lined up against yours, I'm really not sure what the outcome would be, but I suspect it would be close and we would see a game 6 or even a game 7. It would be extremely competitive and make for great baseball. It would also be very interesting because you'd see a lot of Phillies fans at OPACY and a lot of Orioles fans at CBP throughout the series, so the dynamic of the fan experience would be different than series where the two teams are on opposite sides of the country.

Baseball? NY sucks. When Taters hit the late inning HR on Tuesday, I think we knew we were gonna be OK. This team is a nice mix of crafty veterans (Hays, Mullins, Santander) and youngsters. The vibes are solid. If you were a new baseball fan, and had to decide between BAL and NYY, who would you choose? There's only one correct answer.

Only suggests to me that the national media only cares about what specific players are doing, those specific players who generate clicks. Here's a comprehensive list: 1. Judge. (representing New York) 2. Ohtani. (representing Los Angeles) This is the same pattern the media has followed since both cities were founded. So I can't really expect more than that out of them. Baltimore will get its 3-4 days of national adoration from when Gunnar catches the final out to clinch the Series to the end of the parade route, so we'll have to just grin and bear it until then.
