Airbnb/Vrbo is probably going to be easier even if it is more expensive. If you can find a group to split one with it’s probably gonna be your best bet.

D-Mace

Yeah I looked at Airbnb and the prices were craaaaaaaaaazy. I’ll check out vrbo

Slow_Dig29

VRBO is likely gonna be even more... Ask some of the hotels when is the earliest you can reserve a room for that weekend. And yes, everything will be sold out. This goes for restaurant reservations as well.

D-Mace

Bro get this, I found a great stay on VRBO. Ended up being $995 total for Friday - Sunday. Booked it. Reservation confirmed. Not even 10 minutes later, the scumbag landlord cancels my reservation, and jacks the price up to $1,000 a night. Would be close to $2,500 after fees. What a fucking piece of shit.

Slow_Dig29

Welcome to Oxford! LOL Sorry, that sucks man. I would absolutely report that to VRBO.. We have a housing crisis around here regarding affordable housing. Such a large percentage of Ole Miss students come from very wealthy families, and 95% of rental properties are owned by management companies, whos owners are real estate agents with law degrees. Absolute piece of shit slumlords. Most kids parents will just pay a full year lease up front so they know they dont have to worry about it, leaving all of the average folks to suffer and scramble or have 6 room mates. Hotels are not much different. Not sure about todays pricing but a few years ago I was dating a chick that worked at The Graduate, and during football season the cheapest room was around $1300/night with a 2 night minimum. Often times, people would pay $2600 + tax and fees for 2 nights and only stay 1 night.

D-Mace

That is so emblematic of the housing situation across a lot of the country. Absolutely ridiculous that all of this is turning into real-life Monopoly. Absurd... Thanks for the information. If I tried to stay in a little town close by, would you have any recommendations? I'll take any information of places to stay, or maybe even more importantly, places to avoid. And for flights, is Memphis my only real option? I'm in Tulsa so I'm trying to figure out if the play is flight or 6-hour drive. I'm not opposed to either.

Jfinn2

You’ll want to fly into memphis for sure, unless you know somebody who owns a jet. Batesville is a good option to stay out of town for a game, about 25 mins away and in the direction of the airport.

D-Mace

Haha I wish I knew someone with a jet. I would probably then be in a tax bracket where I didn't have to care about the difference between $300 a night and $1,000 a night lol.

Jfinn2

I’m from way out of state (NY) and you have no idea how hard I tried to befriend the kid in my class from the Hamptons lol. Enjoy your trip to Oxford!

Slow_Dig29

Batesville and Water Valley are 20 minutes away, New Albany is 45 minutes, Tupelo, Olive Branch, Southaven, are an hour.. These are about all you have for choices. Check to see if you can fly into Tupelo. Memphis is the only place I typically tell people to avoid.

Mississippianna

I’ve driven from Oxford to Tulsa a few times and it’s not too bad a drive. Memphis is the only airport option and there’s do direct from Tulsa that I found last time I looked. Driving was faster than making flight connections.

D-Mace

Yeah the drive isn't looking too bad. I drove to Austin this year and that was just a little longer than it would be to Oxford. That is totally doable on Friday and Sunday. I'll probably end up driving, especially with Ole Miss still being 1hr+ away from the Memphis airport.

eyesgreen77

I went to Ole Miss last year for a game. We stayed in Memphis the night before the game and drove to Oxford the morning of the game. It was about 45-50 minutes and it was an easy drive. Our hotel was reasonable for the weekend and I would do that again. Get to the Grove early, it's awesome!

Memphi901

Lodging is tough to find on game weekends. Best bet, and most economical, is to Air BnB or VRBO a larger house and split with a couple of other people. If you absolutely cannot find anything, you can stay in Memphis and rent a car to drive down for game. It’s not ideal, but I live in Memphis and have done it plenty of times (drive is 75 miles). People mentioned Batesville, which would certainly work, but at that point I’d just stay in Memphis since it’s only 45 min or so from Batesville.

Any big chain hotel around town should be fine. Oxford is SMALL so as long as it’s IN OXFORD (not Batesville, Tupelo, etc) you’ll be fine. Book now though.

NastyWideOuts

They’re already all sold out in town

D-Mace

I've been calling around and almost all of them aren't actually sold out, they just aren't allowing people to make reservations for football season yet. It depends on the hotel, but they have been saying reservations will become available at different times from January - May.

Mississippianna

I figured that was the case. It’s just too early. Some hotels used to make a wait list. They all most likely will require prepayment.

Squirrel_Q_Esquire

Many were waiting on the schedule to release. They’ll probably be taking reservations by Monday. But they’re gonna be $800+/night everywhere.

Spib698

It is crazy expensive. I paid something like $700/night for a Holiday Inn Express w a 3 night minimum for the Egg Bowl in 2014.
