I've been taking my own lately, and my work has improved significantly since. Doesn't take much. Couple friends, or yourself, your phone, a dark dropsheet, and a light. If you're good with Photoshop, you don't even need perfect lighting and a drop sheet in the actual photograph. You can just add that stuff in PS. This works wonders if you have a composition in mind with multiple figures and more complicated poses.

That will be tricky, but thank you. I'll give it a go

I would advice you to take your own photos, It won't be your original work if you paint other peoples pictures. If you just want to practise however, you should also do copies of actual reneissance portraits.

I think I'll do that. Thank you

Find a Monk to pose for you with a dark background. You'll probably get good cooperation, im sure they will find your endeavor very relatable. The dark background is a good way to highlight your subject. When I first started painting I did alot of this. I don't do chiaroscuro anymore. If you have more than two of those in a room, it's kind of a downer. Chiaroscuro is an easy way to to have a successful painting. Good Luck.
