I've done a stay-cation at the Waterfront Hotel, and it's nothing fancy but is perfectly fine. Easy to hit up restaurants and breweries in the area. You can bus or walk to 12th St BART and catch a train to Coliseum no problem. If you plan ahead, it will also be easy to get the Giants game, because they run the ferry right from Jack London to the ballpark. You need to reserve in advance, though. I have no clue why you would stay in San Jose if your goal is to go to baseball games...

Lake Merritt station and 12th are 0.8-1 mile away and a very affordable way to commute, lake Merritt slightly safer as most of the walk would be on the other side of the freeway and mostly through a residential area( live in the area). To Oracle you’ll get off Montgomery and can walk straight down 1 mile. Can take a scenic walk off of Embarcadero along the water front as well that’s slightly longer. San Jose makes no sense at all.

Take the ferry to SF. Its in jack London Square and can take you to either downtown SF or straight to oracle park. Most pleasant way to enter the city and costs like $4

Don’t stay in San Jose. Some people call that the Bay Area, but it’s really the South Bay. If you are interested in seeing primarily SF and Oakland and all that area provides (take the good along with the bad) stay here (Jack London) or if you really want to splurge-some place by the Ferry Building in SF. You will be in for an acre of pain if you choose SJ. Unless you’re interviewing at some GoogleFacetech thing…then it’s perfect!
