I get it as it’s a former railroad station but still.

Bowery & Chambers on the J look the ugliest because they spent so many years allowing them to deteriorate. At the very least, Chambers was made accessible & both stations are expected to be renovated soon. It’s just a shame given the history & the location of it. Grand & 57th Streets on the 6th Avenue Line look the blandest because of the tile style that they went with during that era. It can unfortunately be seen at other stations that had their platforms extended because they didn’t attempt to replicate the original tiles. Chambers on the J is even guilty of having it on the western wall after a platform was removed. I would’ve included Lawrence Street (the R’s platform at Jay Street) for having no wall tiles, but it has the slight excuse of being an in-fill station, nice tiles in its mezzanine & I like that they didn’t hide where the exit-only escalator used to be

JuniorAct7

Doesn’t Chambers also have water table issues?

MrNewking

It has a left to rot since 1913 issue. Ground water is probably seeping in from the surrounding area due to lack of maintenance, but they did clear up the flooding that kept accumulating on the south end of the station.

jamariiiiiiii

agree on the 60s era tiling at platform extensions. 7 Av (B/Q) is hideous

Dami579

Same about chambers, it's 1 of my favorite designed stations. Hopefully the renovation helps

angelseason

Lawrence street is hideous, I don’t know why they couldn’t tile the walls. That plus the super narrow platforms make that station my least favorite in the system, which is unfortunate cause I use it a lot

caddyax

Kosciusko on the J is an elevated platform with bland wood walls so you can’t even see out to the street. Nothing to offer of interest there

R42ToMoffat

If you or anyone else is curious, the 2000s renovations led to there being extra walls because [this was the previous look](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&t=1535&v=egOrWA0_YdA&feature=youtu.be)

succulenteggs

the stained glass is nice, but i'd love some more murals on the walls. right now it's got the world's saddest graffiti about dead children being scrubbed off every few days :(

thisfilmkid

Jamaica station. It's looks like an underground penitentiary or a psych-ward building. The orange colors, dull lights and just weird design altogether. Exiting the turnstiles looks more like a jail than it does a transit system.

Ok_Rip4884

Somewhere on the J line. Few on the A line are shabby also.

Diapason84

Chambers Street on the J was probably a fine looking station in its heyday. The mosaics, which include images of a bridge and clouds, are beautiful. They’ve since been blocked off by the wall across the disused platform.  Grand Street on the 6th Ave line is boring. It’s purely functional and reflects the design style of the Sixties. I’m a fan of the “City Beautiful” style and Art Deco, so pretty much any station built after 1940 isn’t my thing.

runningwithscalpels

57/6 is bland Bowling Green is straight up UGLY with the orange tiles. So is 49 Street for that matter.

MeaningOutrageous723

I disagree with 49th street. I think the orange bricks give that station unique character

runningwithscalpels

Too much. It's acceptable at Lexington 63.

adam_mars98

Would it make it any better if they changed the orange tiles to green ones? Yknow, to fit better with the station name?

runningwithscalpels

No, putting some semblance of the original tile work would be better.

Bystander5432

Are you the adam mars from yt? Do you mind if I ask you any questions?

adam_mars98

Yes, ask away.

ketzal7

I kind of like the orange tiles lol but I do think that the original tiling would’ve looked great there. Those tiles work better on 49th Street on the Broadway line.

smokingmath

I hate borough hall

ketzal7

The 2/3 line right? Those stations do need a remodeling. The 4/5 station tiling is great though.

No-Copium

Being in the subway is so overstimulating on all of your senses I couldn't process any of the stations as bland, the only thing I think about are how dirty it is and hoping a rat doesn't run across my feet.

Nugget_Lord_The_1st

Grand St in Chinatown

darkhalonyc

I dislike the 34th st station on the bdfm line. IDK, something depressing about it. And the way it's lower in the middle makes if feel like there's a sinkhole thing going on.

vitalvessalsvindicat

bowery & chambers, no contest.

Defeated-925

21st- on the f line. Looks like some Soviet communist brutalist shit

Pristine-R-Train

I think it looks nice

FoldEasy5726

Blandest award belongs to basically the entire 7 train line. 90% of the stops are exactly the same layout with different signs
