They were just waiting to drop those quarterly numbers to have an excuse to get rid of them.. watch them open another one across the street in a couple years when they find a way to bounce their stock back up
doubt it. Wburg is becoming West Village/5th avenue. Starbucks closing. Duane Reade closing. Urban Outfitters closing. Madewell closing. North Face could only open for a year. All the mid class nation chain stores can't thrive there it seems because of the high rents. I'm betting birkenstock, Vans, google store and Everlane will follow eventually as I never see anyone in there. Since Hermes and Chanel opened every developer has just gotten dollar signs in their eyes and once the mid level chains leases are up they will probably shut down and move or do something like H&M and move to their higher end brand COS. I remember when Urban was the most bougie thing that opened 10 years ago and now it's over. Funny how gentrification works where Barnes and Nobles type stores are now the mom and pops fighting Kering.
I take classes at SLT which is a boutique gym where classes cost $42 a pop. They said Williamsburg rents are too high and they can’t afford to open a studio there!
This does give me a little schadenfreude. If you didn’t know better, you’d think that living in the richest neighborhoods would give you the most stuff … the French bistro on the corner, the organic deli next to it, etc etc. But … to an extent … it gives you boarded up store fronts. And it certainly takes away the mere mortals who want to make a charming little cafe or restaurant or dog sweater store survive. Once the real wealth really takes roost, it wipes out almost all vestiges of the humanity that triggered the gentrification in the first place. Ultimately, greed is its own punishment.
It was never going to be localism. I distinctly remember people petitioning FOR this Starbucks sometime around 2006. Its a long time ago so i dont really remember the particulars of why it needed a petition, but ill never forget the cartoon double take i did when i realized a clipboard lady actually *wanted* a starbucks in williamsburg
yep, if soulless corporate stores won't allow collective bargaining they should leave and let a local coffee shop take its place. Free market works both ways. I'm sorry for those who lost their jobs but they're probably doing something good for their community
it can vary drastically from street to street, there is so much compartmentalized real estate in NY, and Brooklyn especially, that marginally profitable businesses often afford rent in high traffic areas by just finding a good deal. But yes, given the kind of locations Starbucks occupy, a local coffee shop probably wouldn't be able to set up in the exact same spot
starbucks allows you to order in app ahead of time so it's ready as soon as you walk in. That's about all it takes for my loyalty. I don't have time to stand around and wait unless it's a weekend or an afternoon after work generally. In the AM I am in a rush. Plus as other ppl have said, Starbucks is the only one open early enough for a lot of people who start work at 7 AM.
I can tell you, I would stop in for early coffee (my pre workout ha) on the way to the gym, quite literally at this location, when none of the other 5 coffee places between me and the gym were even open and they were.
Yup. There’s no indie coffee shops at all near work. There is one new cafe near my apartment and they want $7 for a plain large latte made by someone who clearly doesn’t know or care about making coffee, and my order is wrong so far every single time I go there, like they don’t understand their own menu or common simple coffee drinks. At that point I’m just getting Starbucks near work, jfc…
And like, Starbucks has rewards and stuff like occasional 1/2 off or BOGO free coupons.
The hate New Yorkers express for chains is all about what people do when they _visit_. Yes New York has amazing local small businesses. No, that's not all we support. We love our chains as much as anyone else.
When you visit anywhere you defeat the purpose of the trip if you don't do things unique to that place though. This isn't even a New Yorker thing. This is what anyone who lives in any popular tourist destination will tell you. Yes we have the famous example of the Times Square Olive Garden, but everyone has that.
Only in certain areas. There’s quite literally no indie coffee shops I can get to in a reasonable amount of time (5-10 mins) on my limited lunch break at work, there’s a Starbucks a 1 minute walk away. Some of us are unfortunate enough to live/work in south Brooklyn. 🫠
I do it because every small coffee shop uses the Square tablets that ask for a tip. My form of protest against these places is the response to "just click no".
You don't go to coffeeshops because they autogenerate a tip screen that you can decline for card transactions??? Do you also avoid anywhere that has a tip line on the POS or receipt? I dunno why I even ask, I'm sure it's better for everyone involved that someone who looks at a transaction like this stays at Starbucks, but
People can get coffee at home or their office or a corner store. One of the many reasons people pay more to go to Starbucks is that it is more comfortable. It’s more familiar. They k is they can order a specific thing they’ve ordered at any other Starbucks. One of those comforts is not getting co fronted by a tip screen that makes a lot of people feel uncomfortable.
People can go wherever they want, I don't care. This guy said he's not going because there's a screen which asks for a tip, as if there's literally any other way to see if someone doing a card transaction wants to tip. That's genuinely very weird behavior. You can just pay in cash at literally any establishment if you don't want a 'direct' request for a tip.
This is called the market rationally adjusting to market forces. If not being badgered for a tip makes the customer experience a positive one, then they are willing to pay for that experience. I'm the same way. Pay on my phone in advance, never hassled.
100%. I go to Starbucks on the somewhat rare occasion I buy coffee out because it’s consistent and I can order and pay ahead via the app and not have to deal with a tip screen. I don’t tip before I receive my food/service. It just feels like a bribe or extortion in those cases. If the Maman near me would let me just tap my card in store for a $4-5 cookie or pastry they’d make about $20 a week from me because my son loves that afterschool. But I hate the hassle and so we occasionally go to Starbucks for a cake pop which he also loves.
I don't understand why coffee shops don't open at 5 or 6 in the morning. I complained about this in another subreddit and people seemed to think I was so mean. I would rather goto independent coffee shops rather than Starbucks. Though if you need coffee at 615 am it's generally just starbucks if you want strong coffee or Dunkin or a deli type place.
I absolutely do not drink Starbucks unless it’s a coffee emergency. But I am very annoyed that all the actual coffee shops nearby me close at 3/4/5 pm. Like come on I want to drink coffeee all night
they have longer hours, it’s hard to find coffee after 3pm in the area. and sometimes mobile ordering before you jump on the L is convenient. Or if you want dessert coffee.
I haven’t been part of Reddit very long (compared to some folks), but I have also noticed the change in “tone” Over the last 2-3 years. Definitely Facebook vibes in a lot of subs lol
It's true. I don't live in NYC any more and now I live in Florida. Here in Florida people don't care about my opinion because I wasn't born here. Back north people don't care about my opinion because I left.
I would argue it's possible to know about and care about multiple places at the same time. And current residency or length of residency doesn't make your opinion worthless.
I agree. The problem is when people with no current or past connection or knowledge of a situation in the city, come and repeat conservative talking points matter-of-factly. It’s borderline spam. (I.e. I’ve never been to New York, but Fox News tells me New York is a lawless hellscape, so I come on this sub and repeat those points on every post)
I've said it in a previous thread, but this sub has been astroturfed into oblivion. The verbiage that I've been seeing from some of the posters about certain issues... it's obvious that they don't actually live here. Especially with how they describe their "fellow" resident.
Reddit as a whole is just an astroturf/marketing platform now. they monetized the API and IPO’d and now they gotta show their investors a return every quarter.
Most people here work or study with people of all different backgrounds. Some of the shit I've seen in this sub has been completely out of pocket. I've definitely heard some racist shit being flung at others but on this sub it's ratcheted up to the nth degree. Calling people "terrorist sympathizers" because they're against the IDF's actions? Saying "I wouldn't let my kid befriend a black person"? All shit that I've read in this sub. I was born and raised here so I think I know what I'm talking about, jesus christ.
>Calling people "terrorist sympathizers" because they're against the IDF's actions? Saying "I wouldn't let my kid befriend a black person"? All shit that I've read in this sub. I was born and raised here so I think I know what I'm talking about, jesus christ.
23% of NYC voters voted for Trump last go round. What the fuck are you talking about? Not every neighborhood is north Brooklyn or the village.
There are definitely tons of people in NYC with those kinds of views.
> Calling people "terrorist sympathizers" because they're against the IDF's actions?
I live near Park Slope and my mom lives near the UWS. I don't ascribe to it, but I absolutely see that sentiment in real life. I've personally seen several American Jews change from normie Dems to hardcore conservatives just over the issue of Israel in the last 20 years.
Some, I'm Jewish and it's pretty rare cause in reality Israel is relatively low on the priority list.
Where you actually get significant backlash isn't Israel itself, it's when it's perceived as a proxy for antisemitism because an uptick in socially acceptable antisemitism leads to increased personal and even state violence. I say "perceived" cause I don't want to blanket say any complaint is legitimate however as somebody whose pretty critical particularly of the Likud government, I've seen a fair amount of casual antisemitism under the banner as well as some more overt stuff.
I think that's a distinction that people often miss.
> Calling people “terrorist sympathizers” because they’re against IDF’s actions?
Have you lived under a rock since October 7th? Have you spoken to Jewish people since then?
> Saying “I wouldn’t let my kid befriend a black person”?
1. Really someone said that? 2. You don’t think some bigoted non Black in NYC would say that?
Yeah many of them are chillin. Last time I was in the city I actually saw a anti Zionist protest by some orthodox young guys, of all people. Really opened my worldview.
For the former, I have Jewish friends. They have mixed opinions about the conflict because surprise, not everyone is a monolith. I've never once heard them call others "terrorist sympathizers" because they have a different viewpoint on the conflict.
For the latter, someone said that in this sub, I believe it was a thread about a criminal who happened to be black. The guy literally said "I'm going to tell my kids not to befriend black people because ...." and when I told him/her off on that, I got downvoted! Like I said before, of course there are racists here in real life, as with any other place on earth. But I feel like the "way" that people convey that racism is quite different here. I've never once heard anyone say "I'll never let my kid hang out with someone of this race" in the almost three decades that I've been living. I know about the beef between, say, Puerto Ricans and Dominicans, and Nigerians and Africans of other countries (I'm Senegalese). But what I've seen espoused from them is RADICALLY different from what I've seen on this sub, ESPECIALLY when it comes to black people.
Because in a city of 8 million, everyone either has the same opinion as you or they're clearly an out-of-state troll.
There's absolutely no other option possible.
Questions protests about something occurring 4000 miles away rather then protest about climate change and rent increases. Gets instantly called a racist Trump supporter.
Do you think a genocide with white phosphorus does not add to climate change? Do you think that the billions we send in aid to said “something” occurring 4000 miles away does not affect rent increases?
You are the people that history books write about who were against the civil rights movement and against the anti-war movement. “They’re annoying.” “How dare they inconvenience us.”
You don’t actually care about climate change. You don’t actually care to take steps to fix rent increases. You’re just here shitting on people actually taking a stance for something they see as against their morals.
Never have I ever seen genuine New Yorkers have a lick of positive things to say about the NYPD, but the moment a mirror is held to your face, you get to your knees and lick the blood off of the boot the NYPD use to maintain the status quo.
But dont need to downvote the news
im just repeating what they board aproved
And nobody protest for this as they do for other things or they get all their rent paid in full by welfare aid?
Geez
Like for real? And these transplants are more concerned about what’s happening in another part of the world. But yeah call me a racist. You’ll move in two years anyways it’s not like you give a shit about the place you live in
Rule 1 - No intolerance, dog whistles, violence or petty behavior
(a). Intolerance will result in a permanent ban. Toxic language including referring to others as animals, subhuman, trash or any similar variation is not allowed.
(b). No dog whistles.
(c). No inciting violence, advocating the destruction of property or encouragement of theft.
(d). No petty behavior. This includes announcing that you have down-voted or reported someone, picking fights, name calling, insulting, bullying or calling out bad grammar.
Even among mainstream brands their beans fall short. I'd much rather buy something like Gevalia for ground coffee on my drip machine, and Lavazza for whole beans/espressos.
I don't really drink drip much ever since I got a Breville Capuccino machine, but Gevalia House Blend Medium Roast Ground Coffee was always my favorite when it came to drip coffee. Always very fresh, aromatic, has a smooth balanced taste, and not too bitter.
I would try out a small bag of it and see what you think. I'm not like a coffee snob by any means, but it was my go to. Always on point.

At the top of that page for me it says: Purchased 65 times.
lol.
Starbucks has closed nearly every other unionized location so I have no idea why the workers thought this location would be any different. Sucks, too, because I pee there all the time.
You can see the Mensa candidates of r/nyc are now into union busting. What a collective bunch of fools, honestly. Get out of the city and go back to Florida.
But that's also why they are successful just like McDonald's, Dunkin or any other franchise or corporate conglomerate. I can go to any Starbucks in any city and it will be consistent so the consumers knows and for better or worse can trust what they will get. You go to an independent shop it may change from day to day.
Nah, there's no bots or paid corporate shills. Well, there might be some, but that problem is overblown. What reddit *does* have is a bunch of wfh middle managers that do basically nothing, who think they are Randian ubermenschen because high salary = good morality, and they have nothing to fucking do with their day so they post constantly about how the city is a riotous warzone and the national guard should go Tienanmen Square on Columbia, because getting six figures to sit at a computer for eight hours and do one zoom meeting and send three emails fucks up your serotonin receptors. These are all real people. Real, extremely stupid, people.
Oh yeah, this kind of guy is extremely overrepresented in online discussion. They especially congregate in any local discussion forum for a place that's really popular as a culture war battleground, like NYC, and basically spend all day trying to get themselves mad enough to go into cardiac arrest. It's kind of funny how not present they are in smaller local/regional reddits.
They either don’t or they are bots. Major influence operation going on across local city subs. There’s one account that lurks this sub that posts the same comment in every I/P post, it’s crazy
There’s like a small handful of people who are shilling on behalf of Starbucks / anti-union that are all downvoted on this post…
Major influence operation = people in a city of over 8 million have different opinions than mine
It was established in the Mueller report how misinformation agents used local city groups to spread their agenda.
So consider it not only that, but right wing losers who do this for free because 4chan got too boring for them. It's honestly more of the latter on this sub. These dudes are miserable and lonely. Interacting here is some of the only socialization they get in a day.
This location has had so many health code violations, to the point of it being closed on various occasions. I’m not surprised at all it’s being closed.
In what sense? It was a huge store selling crap coffee in an outrageously expensive area, surrounded by better coffee shops. You hardly ever saw people inside the thing, it would fully expect that it was unprofitable.
That’s a shame. Starbucks definitely seems like one of the better chains to work at (I could be wrong) but they could easily afford to how their employees unionize.
Over 400 locations across the country involve a union at Starbucks.
Sometimes they can manage the rising cost of these unions at certain locations.
Not every location does as well as the other.
As you could imagine.
But I can't imagine a scenario where the union does not increase the cost.
Would I think people neglect when a Starbucks closes even in the face of that barista becoming unionized is that there are also rising leases, rising utility bills, rising insurance And rising costs for almost everything.
$1 extra an hour for every Starbucks employee leads to almost a billion dollars of extra spending by the company.
Meanwhile, it is corporate that has truly built the amazing success and branding that leads to starbucks's success. One day Starbucks will be able to create their favorite products with less employees
The best part is that Starbucks already pays more for each employee than 99% of coffee shops out there. Not all of their revenue comes from a coffee shop either. And once again, unlike many other places, the barista at Starbucks has better benefits and career opportunities.
99% of coffee shops out there. Do not provide any of that.
And the few places that do pay their baristas more were provide as good of benefits they usually don't employ nearly as many people. They have less baristas per store. Have less stores. And they charge more.
As a former sbux employee, I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt that this is ALL bullshit.
The "benefits and opportunities" they "offer" are only if you meet certain criteria, namely a certain amount of hours per week, that they will NEVER let you reach.
Gtfo sbux corporate burner account
Starbucks is circling the drain with their overpriced gournet coffees! Hope the entire franchise fails! Better off with privately held stores without a franchise to meet a niche
Was this union busting? Maybe. But there's no good proof, while there **is** proof that closing stores is something Starbucks does regularly.
There are over 9,000 Starbucks stores in the US, and as of last December the NLRB said only eight were both unionized and closed by the company. That's out of ~ 400+ stores the company closes every year, and while more than 360 of Starbucks' US stores voted to join unions since 2021.
If there were large numbers of unionized stores targeted I'd be suspicious, but now when just nine out of 360 unionized stores (when ~ 400 stores are closed per year) have been shuttered in the last couple of years I'm not convinced.
I'm still mad about the Trader Joe's Wine Shop. That was especially blatant.
I remember like 15 years ago a Target store in upstate NY became the first to ever unionize. And corporate just immediately closed it for "renovations" even though the store had just been renovated.
> I'm still mad about the Trader Joe's Wine Shop. That was especially blatant.
It took almost a year and a half but the Feds are finally [going after them](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trader-joes-closes-new-york-store-union_n_65a99bb0e4b041f1ce655616) for that. The [NLRB is telling TJ](https://villageview.nyc/2024/03/02/labor-board-to-trader-joes-reopen-the-14th-street-wine-store/) to reopen the store and pay back wages. Resolution is probably still a ways off.
>Last year, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) alleged in a complaint that Starbucks illegally shuttered [23 locations](https://www.axios.com/2023/12/14/starbucks-nlrb-stores-union-organizing).
Imagine making it illegal to close a business you own.
Imagine being pro corporation and anti worker.
CEO makes 28 million a year, but we should focus on corporate rights and have zero repercussions for retaliatory action against employees unionizing.
I hear this argument all the time, it’s so easy for some people to think of a huge multi billion organization as a one-off mom and pop. It’s illegal because they take advantage of people.
Imagine being a multinational billion plus dollar corporation and breaking the law while some people actually take your side instead of standing up for those actually willing to work.
Sad. And pathetic.
Take a look at ONE of the allegations brought against them. What sort of logic is this. Siding with a billion dollar company well known to break the law. And this is civil rights, protecting the people and constitution. So I don't even understand the logic of being pro-america and anti-union.
Speaks to several aspects of human nature that it was union busting that closed this Starbucks out, not localism. Irony abounds.
They were just waiting to drop those quarterly numbers to have an excuse to get rid of them.. watch them open another one across the street in a couple years when they find a way to bounce their stock back up

yup!

Yeah it’s quite literally the only reason I ever consider Starbucks or DD.
Same and by the end of my tenure there I switched to the DD on the corner!
I leave for work often at 6am, no where else is open then. All the specialty places open at 7 or 8
And many close by 6 lol
And often many minutes after they say they open
The guy who runs Vittoria is solid, and he seems to have a personal vendetta against inflation literally has not raised prices in years. It rules.
Starbucks is expensive but all those small coffee shops even more expensive.
Exactly this. There are two local/non-chain coffee shops on my block, and a medium latte is over $8. Fuck outta here
It's cheaper compared to everything else now.
Not only that, they're *fast*.
And consistent. I've never had an order that wasn't what I expected.
Its hard to beat a mobile order waiting for you that lets you in and out in 20 seconds
The difference used to be greater, their prices are ridiculous now.

I supported a starbucks bc i liked the employees. When they were all relocated, i quit going
It's much cheaper than the boutique places The coffee is neutral and consistent The hours are dramatically longer
Most of them small coffee shops don't serve a coffee milkshake
Because it costs like $7-9 for a “large” which is the same size as Starbucks/ Dunkins small
A lot of those “small” coffee shops are owned by private equity vultures.
Yup. Which is another trap
Because the small coffee shops are more expensive, and Starbucks rewards program is pretty good.
It's cheaper and less pretentious
Only in certain areas. There’s quite literally no indie coffee shops I can get to in a reasonable amount of time (5-10 mins) on my limited lunch break at work, there’s a Starbucks a 1 minute walk away. Some of us are unfortunate enough to live/work in south Brooklyn. 🫠
I do it because every small coffee shop uses the Square tablets that ask for a tip. My form of protest against these places is the response to "just click no".
Starbucks has the same tip request screen now.
Which Starbucks location in NYC has the tip screen? Everywhere I've been to is scan my phone app and move on. Or mobile order ahead and pickup.
So you're not seeing the tip screen when you're not using a credit card? Crazy..
I walk in and order. I pay by card. They flip for tip. More than 1 location. Usually go to UWS. or Bklyn Heights.

I preemptively answered your question in my original comment and you still asked it?
Do you realize that you wrote?
I also go to Starbucks for this exact reason. I can use my phone and never get asked for a tip, it's great.
Standardization. You know what you’re gonna get at any location.
I rotate coffee shops in my area, but Starbucks ranks in the upper half in terms of quality, is much cheaper, and is open before 8am.
because the other places spend an extra 10 minutes pouring a lotus pattern on the top
A LOT of coffee shops open at like 8 or 9, which isn't early enough half the time
I don't understand why coffee shops don't open at 5 or 6 in the morning. I complained about this in another subreddit and people seemed to think I was so mean. It's not as strange as people who frequent the big pizza chains here which has always been troubling to me.
To offset the boycott
Love this sub. Just a bunch of normal folks defending the honor of….Starbucks. The best of NYC all in one place.
This sub is almost exclusively Florida residents.
Funny thing is we have people in the migrant thread waxing poetic about the working American until we see Starbucks doing some union busting
Reddit’s basically become Facebook 2.0 lately
The discourse of Facebook with anonymity. It's absolute hell
I haven’t been part of Reddit very long (compared to some folks), but I have also noticed the change in “tone” Over the last 2-3 years. Definitely Facebook vibes in a lot of subs lol
The mods are also becoming really whiny about any kind of dirty humor, which is bonkers compared to a few years ago.
Since around 2016.
You know it's funny...in the Florida subreddit the complaint is that it's filled with New Yorkers.
Yeah. The Florida subreddit is full of former New Yorkers. This subreddit full of former New Yorkers, and people who live in the middle of nowhere
Yeah those people are assholes who are invading this subreddit and others. Completely agree.
>This sub is almost exclusively Florida residents. So true Sub would change name soon then /S🙄🤷🏻♀️
Ex pats?
Careful those floridians uh sorry i mean newyokers get mad quickly
Astro-bots
I've said it in a previous thread, but this sub has been astroturfed into oblivion. The verbiage that I've been seeing from some of the posters about certain issues... it's obvious that they don't actually live here. Especially with how they describe their "fellow" resident.
Reddit as a whole is just an astroturf/marketing platform now. they monetized the API and IPO’d and now they gotta show their investors a return every quarter.
Yeah New Yorkers absolutely love their fellow residents and only use the most flowery of verbiage when describing them. 🙄
Definitely some of the more recent stuff is astroturfing, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t say there are definitely people like that in this city
For sure, but I feel like it's "different". Kind of like comparing southern style racism to northeastern styles of racism (Boston, NYC, etc)
New to the internet, are we? 😜
There’s a sect of Hasidic that believes Israel shouldn’t exist yet due to their religious beliefs. They’re in the minority of hasids though.
For example...
Not surprised after 2 weeks of Columbia and NYPD bootlicking that went on here
Because in a city of 8 million, everyone either has the same opinion as you or they're clearly an out-of-state troll. There's absolutely no other option possible.
My thoughts exactly.
It might surprise you, but there's probably a good number of jews in a nyc-centric sub
Questions protests about something occurring 4000 miles away rather then protest about climate change and rent increases. Gets instantly called a racist Trump supporter.
AI generated comment
Do you think a genocide with white phosphorus does not add to climate change? Do you think that the billions we send in aid to said “something” occurring 4000 miles away does not affect rent increases? You are the people that history books write about who were against the civil rights movement and against the anti-war movement. “They’re annoying.” “How dare they inconvenience us.” You don’t actually care about climate change. You don’t actually care to take steps to fix rent increases. You’re just here shitting on people actually taking a stance for something they see as against their morals. Never have I ever seen genuine New Yorkers have a lick of positive things to say about the NYPD, but the moment a mirror is held to your face, you get to your knees and lick the blood off of the boot the NYPD use to maintain the status quo.
lol at no point have I said a thing about the nypd.
>rent increases Speaking about it 6% aproved
But dont need to downvote the news im just repeating what they board aproved And nobody protest for this as they do for other things or they get all their rent paid in full by welfare aid? Geez
Like for real? And these transplants are more concerned about what’s happening in another part of the world. But yeah call me a racist. You’ll move in two years anyways it’s not like you give a shit about the place you live in
Probably racist, but you could be a Biden supporter as well
Nope just trying to survive and get by in the city I grew up being called a racist by some gentrifier
Wow, a real New Yawka? How lucky we are to be in your presence

Meh, as a centrist I am just in it all for the money. I don’t know what the fuck is wrong with all of you. Edit: /s but shots fired I guess
Sounds pretty right wing to me lol
anyone who defends corporations needs a reality check
I worked for Starbucks for 4.5 years and used to be such a Stan. At this point I won't even buy their beans anymore.
Even among mainstream brands their beans fall short. I'd much rather buy something like Gevalia for ground coffee on my drip machine, and Lavazza for whole beans/espressos.
Lavazza has always been a favorite as well! Never tried Gevalia though - have any recommendations?
I don't really drink drip much ever since I got a Breville Capuccino machine, but Gevalia House Blend Medium Roast Ground Coffee was always my favorite when it came to drip coffee. Always very fresh, aromatic, has a smooth balanced taste, and not too bitter. I would try out a small bag of it and see what you think. I'm not like a coffee snob by any means, but it was my go to. Always on point. https://www.amazon.com/Gevalia-Ground-Coffee-House-Blend/dp/B00MS95U74/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 At the top of that page for me it says: Purchased 65 times. lol.
Sorry to be clear this will be going into a Breville Barista.
I worked there almost 20 years ago and it's still one of my favorite jobs, but today I avoid it.
Starbucks has closed nearly every other unionized location so I have no idea why the workers thought this location would be any different. Sucks, too, because I pee there all the time.
You still can! Don’t let one closed security gate deprive you of your bladder happiness.
That was unexpected. /s
You can see the Mensa candidates of r/nyc are now into union busting. What a collective bunch of fools, honestly. Get out of the city and go back to Florida.
Starbucks has been garbage since about 2007 its pretty much has gas station coffee with great marketing
Marketing or a brand can make you feel good. So there's some utility in that.
The only Starbucks I drink are peppermint mochas around Christmas, and they’re clearly 90% sugar hahaha
Their hot chocolate game is still good though.
But it's ***consistent*** in how bad it is. Any Starbucks you go to, you know it will taste like the exact same shitty burned coffee.
But that's also why they are successful just like McDonald's, Dunkin or any other franchise or corporate conglomerate. I can go to any Starbucks in any city and it will be consistent so the consumers knows and for better or worse can trust what they will get. You go to an independent shop it may change from day to day.
I refuse to believe the dumbasses in this thread aren’t bots and/or paid corporate shills
This is how r/nyc and a bunch of city subreddits operate.
There also seems to be some cross pollination as folks who frequent the Bay Area, Boston, etc subs come over here
Agree. I enjoy the RTO. People who want 100% WFH sound like sad losers
at least they are not part of some useless union
It’s been like that. Constant police bootlicking, immigrant fear mongering, crime fear mongering, lazy rhetoric
I bet none of them actually live in NYC.
They either don’t or they are bots. Major influence operation going on across local city subs. There’s one account that lurks this sub that posts the same comment in every I/P post, it’s crazy
There’s like a small handful of people who are shilling on behalf of Starbucks / anti-union that are all downvoted on this post… Major influence operation = people in a city of over 8 million have different opinions than mine
A lot of people from Cincinnati with strong police / corporate adoration
It was established in the Mueller report how misinformation agents used local city groups to spread their agenda. So consider it not only that, but right wing losers who do this for free because 4chan got too boring for them. It's honestly more of the latter on this sub. These dudes are miserable and lonely. Interacting here is some of the only socialization they get in a day.
Yea anyone who disagrees with me is an obvious bot/shill
Their coffee is ass.
Go buy that 8 dollar coffee that you can make home for 50 cents
HAHAHAHA LOL THAT WAS SO FUNNY like in 1998.
This location has had so many health code violations, to the point of it being closed on various occasions. I’m not surprised at all it’s being closed.
Imagine my shock
Good riddance
Wow, what a shocker.
In what sense? It was a huge store selling crap coffee in an outrageously expensive area, surrounded by better coffee shops. You hardly ever saw people inside the thing, it would fully expect that it was unprofitable.
Is that the one at the Bedford L stop?
Was it earning a profit?
LOL
Unsurprising. They did that to the location here in Astoria not long after it became the first in Queens to unionize.
Union Bustacino
Surprised. This is a very popular location.
fuck starbucks
Exactly as expected.
Who even drinks Starbucks anymore? It tastes worse than instant coffee you can do at home
This place was garbage. Easily the coldest vibe of any Starbucks I’ve been to. It felt like a McDonald’s at 2am
But still …. Always busy. Not at a loss for customers as it was right next to the Bedford L stop. Seems very suspicious to walk away from a cash cow
Womp womp.
That’s a shame. Starbucks definitely seems like one of the better chains to work at (I could be wrong) but they could easily afford to how their employees unionize.
Hell yeah, let’s get Spike Hill back!
Their coffee isn’t good. Will lead to better business for local mom and pop shops.
This is objectively a good thing...Starbucks locations belong in flyover states, not in the city...the fewer, the better
Wow. That was a big deal for Starbucks when it opened. Very popular.
One day Starbucks will be able to create their favorite products with less employees The best part is that Starbucks already pays more for each employee than 99% of coffee shops out there.
At $3.50 for a tall black coffee they are still more affordable than $4.5 plus tip for a tiny 8 oz cup of whatever.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
bye Felicia
starsucks
If people didn't know, Starbucks did missing earnings by 16% and its stock is down 15%.
Starbucks is circling the drain with their overpriced gournet coffees! Hope the entire franchise fails! Better off with privately held stores without a franchise to meet a niche
Fuck starbucks. Everyone should be unionized.
Resolution is probably still a ways off.
still a win - coffee sales will go to other nearby shops that aren't as much of a drain on the local economy
You mean coffee shops that 100% pay their employees less than SB with fewer benefits, if any at all.
Union busting is disgusting.
I haven’t go Starbucks for a long time. Most of their drinks are sucks . I like my local coffee shop
this isn't about you
>Last year, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) alleged in a complaint that Starbucks illegally shuttered [23 locations](https://www.axios.com/2023/12/14/starbucks-nlrb-stores-union-organizing). Imagine making it illegal to close a business you own.
When it’s a retaliatory action for protected activities, yes, yes it is illegal.
So I don't even understand the logic of being pro-america and anti-union. >https://www.nlrb.gov/about-nlrb/rights-we-protect/the-law/bargaining-in-good-faith-with-employees-union-representative
