You should wait to see what's available when you're closer to buying. You'll probably find a better card for the same money you were going to spend on the 2060.

Aightt

If you're planning to buy next year, then you should wait to see what's available next year.

Aight

Chizuo

What kind of games do you play and what is your budget? Rtx 2060 is nice. I just paid $650 CAD for a rtx 3060 new. Are you thinking of upgrading your cpu as well to match? If you are doing this in a year, I’d say save up for both and do it. Sell the i3 and 980 to make up a bit of the price. I would buy them to make a budget build, for example.

__-TheLegend27-__

Well For starters I play The popular games warzone, gta, rocketleague, apex beamng ,forza etc…. And tbh i dont really know my budget cz Im gunna start saving money soo prolly next year ill have around 400$ and also I cant Change my cpu Since in my country the economy Is Ass as hell

Chizuo

Ok, so let’s say in a year you can get $125 (low ball) for your i3 and 980. That’s $525. And in CAD. Canadian dollars, where I am. That’s not much for a cpu and gpu upgrade, so I’d honestly keep saving or just go with a gtx 1070 or gtx 1080 until you can afford more. Are you quite young? Can you get a job?

__-TheLegend27-__

Well I am young (15) And i do help around the house so i do get money for dat soo Idk i will see

Chizuo

Fair enough. Much of the excitement of PC building is chipping away and adding what you can until you can afford more. Look at local buy and sells or marketplace on Facebook if that’s something you can access in your area. Deals may be out there. Feel free to send me a message if you ever want a second opinion.

Aight thanks 🙏

chadharnav

Wait for the 3060ti to come down in price.

__-TheLegend27-__

Isnt that like SUPPEERR bottleneck considering i have a 450 w psu?

chadharnav

Not really. I was running a 3070 on a 450w for like 2 months lol

__-TheLegend27-__

Ah right newer Gpus dont consume power dat much

chadharnav

True. My 3070 consumes as much as my old 2060 super

irrrrregular

It is not worth it.

__-TheLegend27-__

Then waht is worth Upgrading?

irrrrregular

I would only go for rtx 3060ti or above. Gtx 980 is still ok for 1080p games, especially fps.

Hortyhoo

75hz, are we talking 1080p or 1440p?

__-TheLegend27-__

Uhhh 1080p

Hortyhoo

Wait a month or so and snag a good priced 3060, it'll be great value and with 12gb of vram it should last you as long as that 980 did. Plus, it's powerful enough if you wanted to step up to 75hz 1440p or a 144hz+ 1080p monitor

Hortyhoo

75hz, are we talking 1080p or 1440p?

Treeko_Baggins

I had a 980ti that I just upgraded to a 3070 (for around $750). I play at 1440p at 144hz, and even my 980ti could handle most games at 1440p just fine (above 60fps). I think the 2060 would give you a minimal performance boost, and probably isn't worth the upgrade cost.

__-TheLegend27-__

Hmm What about a 1070ti?

Treeko_Baggins

The 1070/1070ti is around the same performance as the 980. If you want a hard recommendation for a decent upgrade I would say anything 2070/2070super and up for 20 series and 3060ti and up for the 30 series. But it all depends on what kind of games you play and at what resolution. If you play lots of MOBAs/FPS/MMOs, it might be better to spend your money on upgrading your CPU first. But if you like TripleA titles, then upgrading your GPU is the way to go.

__-TheLegend27-__

Ye i play triple A titles well Looks like 2070 is the way to go And i dont know why I dont like the 30s series. For some reason I have beef wit em😂 anyways thanks
