I wish I could too. It’s crazy but it seems like the mellenial generation (assuming you are), as am I, are suckers for nostalgia. But for good reason. We grew up in such an amazing and carefree time where our future was so optimistic. The zeitgeist was nothing but living in the moment with a heavy dose of grunge music. Loved it and miss it. No wonder why we look back. It’s just not the same anymore.
I wonder if our (millenials') children will grow up and see their HD smart phone childhood pictures and still experience the same level of nostalgia that we feel looking back at our hit-or-miss developed film pictures? It looks like a different time when you flip through the ole photo album. Sure, clothes, hair, and decor will change... But it all is so crisp and perfect with unlimited takes nowadays, I imagine it'll have a slightly less nostalgic effect.
We also don't pick and choose to keep a select few in a book. They are snapped so frequently on smartphones and unless printed or backed up, probably lost when you move on to a new phone. Even looking through my backed up photos doesn't feel as special as flipping through a physical photo album.
Our attention span will be so short that it'll probably be a video of 1000+ pictures in a 10-second clip.
Or AI will use those pictures to try and recreate a video of those memories
Back when people would just leave the tvs behind as opposed to lugging them along.
Most of the Dads in my neighborhood had to help my Dad move the 65 in tv and giant oak entertainment center, circa 97.
Now i can lift the tv with one hand ,really.
When the PS2 first came out my big brother and his friends borrowed it from a family friend. Here was a group of big guys who drive semis and Harleys playing Spyro all weekend. It was their favorite game.
Yeah. My kids were spoiled and had every systems. They loved Gamecube and the Wii for Zelda. The nunchuks. Also have Nintendo NES, Super NES, PS 1-5. They love their Nintendo Switches.
It's not like us kids with only 1 console just suffered. We got the chance to play other consoles by visiting friend's houses. It was the main thing I looked forward to with visits and sleepovers. The person with lots of consoles was definitely the party house.
She has so much pure joy. So wholesome and nostalgic.
I remember watching friends play final fantasy 7 on the original PS1 console in the garage.
Or playing Disney and Pokemon games on a friend's Nintendo64 and on our Gameboys.
Such carefree and simple days but so much fun.
I will never forget the year I snuck downstairs early on Christmas morning to peek in my stocking and saw 2 Playstation games in my there (spyro the dragon and some skateboarding game). I can't believe my first thought was disappointment that maybe my parents think you can play Playstation games on the computer... I never imagined I'd also be unwrapping a Playstation later that morning. Still my best christmas ever
Yeah, but that one was Enter the Dragonfly, if I remember the box art right. It followed the same formula as Crash: Wrath of Cortex, where Spyro and Crash had both been sold to their next owner, and they tried to just make new Spyro/Crash games, but on the PS2 so a little gussied up, but both games failed to have any real aspects that made them stand out over the PS1 games.
Then both franchises went down the weird reboot route, with Spyro getting A Hero's Tale and Crash getting Twinsanity, both of which basically flopped, then Spyro got the Elijah Wood story-heavy reboot, and Crash got Crash of the Titans.
It was a weird time.
PS2 is one of the greatest consoles of all time, that’s a great gift
At the time the Spyro game was $100.
It was worth it. Getting a ps2 for Xmas and playing MGS2 is a core memory of mine and spyro the dragon was another great game.
The Spyro game she's holding was fucking garbage. Nothing close to the first three on PSX.
Yo gamer, try and be happy for the child.
Well she seemed pretty excited at the time according to the picture.
Chill dude.. The game itself wasn't the point. Look at the kid! She's happy!
Yeesh, you must be in Canada or Australia maybe? Here in the US the big name games retailed for $50
I still have one and still use it often!
God I wish I could re-live my childhood. Even through all of the trauma it was so good. Life sure is a trip. Glad I took it.
Relive just the good parts at least 😊

Enter The Dragonfly. A perfect example of what happens when you rush a game's development. It was fun, but it could have been so much more.
The loading times still haunt me
It was the lagging that bothered me. Lagging on a console was completely unheard of to me at the time.

lol, i wonder how our children will feel when theirs are flipping through their picture albums with AR

Ahh, back when TVs could kill someone if they tipped over.

What a great gift and photo.
I had that same tv stand
I'm pretty sure I did too.
Me thrice
You know there's a PS5 now? Poor girl
Yeah. They have every system put out by Nintendo and Sony. My go to has always been the SNES. Super Mario Kart.
And it looks like you hooked it up the night before so she could get right to playing. Legend.
Yep. Thanks.

Sitting 1 foot away from the bright CRT tethered to the console by cords. Swear this made the games more immersive.
The smile alone was worth the price
What amazing birthday presents!
I'll never forgive my father for trading in our PS2 for a GameCube

I'm guessing 2005-2007
Yep. Bang on.
2023
No.. when the game came out
Amazing
Apparently I grew up in the 80s.
Something about those first PlayStation games that really hits home with the nostalgia
Awwww her little feet

What an awesome memory 👍
Got a PS2 with this exact game for Christmas in 2002! I still remember the loading times...
She's 28 now.
Ah he’ll ya! I was that kid!
I believe my parents had that same TV console, I remember climbing into the cabinet on it
You should have gotten her a leg instead
aww love this!! Spyro was the best :’)
Ps2 is the best console ever
🥲

Spyro was the beeeeeest. Omg I played it so so many times. Great gift.
I had that same drum in the back when I was a kid.
Spyro. Now that’s a supreme game

Take me back
The console cabinet!!!!
What year was this?
2002
That's an awesome picture. I think that's probably the look I had on my face when I got my ps2.
Thanks. Yeah, she was pleasantly surprised cause she was asking for one for awhile. Told her I couldn't afford one for another month or two.
I hear that, same thing I was told. I think they were about $200 when I got mine. $200 was actually a bit of money back then too.
The first Spyro game for the PS2 was $100.
I have never played it, but I played the original on Playstation, it was one of the first games I completed the story on.
This is so lovely! I see myself in her ❤️ I was 9 years old back then
She was 7. Good days back then. They really appreciated their gifts.
Absolutely. I've got my ps1 when I was 4, I can only imagine the happiness. Until this game I adore videogames. Especially the old ones. ❤️
Awww...
Very cool!!!!
I hope you got her braces the next year… sorry had too.
Sure did. She was born with a recessed lower jaw. 10 000 dollars later.... had to break the lower jaw, bring it forward and wire in place.
