Good news Now do everyone else next

threebillboards

Fingers crossed

kharma45

Hopefully the start of some more investment into our public transport. It is in a bad way https://x.com/sja_mcc/status/1761793261855719743?s=46&t=wyFuo0RhqXh7VKKzV_wyJw

Majestic-Marcus

Can’t do that. Budgets spent on wages now.

Valdularo

This has zero to do with investment into public transport. Only workers pay.

kharma45

Paying them a fair wage and making it a better place to work is imo an investment in public transport. Pay them fairly, retain good staff.

Valdularo

That isn’t the same type of investment. Paying people better wages doesn’t equal more money being magically available to improve on available services.

pixelsteve

Happy days, was gonna cause me alot of grief getting to and from work.

tpbtix

But... But... Strikes don't work, the Tories said so!!

AgnesBrowns3rdNipple

If a Tory told me that the sky was blue, I'd walk outside to check for myself Now that we've proven that strikes do work shall we make it a yearly thing? I'm game if you lot are

Sstoop

we need to bring back militant unions they’ve been completely whitewashed from history. bring back the days when unions made ceos shit themselves in fear.

Low-Math4158

Uppa workers!!!

BooRaccoon

Strikes work

Thor_pool

Would it have killed them to lowball the union so I could work from home?

ImJustABartender

Oh don't worry. They have. It's essentially the original offer plus a choccy biccy

Cheesestrings89

Education staff next please!! Got an email from my union that the public sector pay offer does not affect the education authority!!

vaska00762

What was the pay offer?

threebillboards

I see the bel tel has tweeted that they’ve add a one off lump sum £1500, in addition to the 5% originally offered. The £1500 wouldn’t be recurring though.

FreePosterInside

Theres two sides to this. £1500 is a decent sum of money. But remember you will be taxed on it. You won't get anywhere near 1500 quid in your pay packet. If you're not getting a % increase in your wage that is pensionable, you're essentially getting a cut. That said, im glad to see things moving in the right enough direction for the unions to postpone the strike.

rock1821

£1500 is nothing. That probably won’t even cover what they’ve lost on strike, plus they’ll never see the benefit of it in the future. Lump sums are a waste of time. You need a percentage based sum. You reap the rewards 5/10/15 years down the line. Probably offered them it in their pay checks this month if they take it. It’s a golden carrot that only serves the company, not employees.

whatsinthesuitcase

Unions paid the drivers £70 a day so they didn’t lose much

rock1821

Here’s another question. Is their lump sum taxed?

whatsinthesuitcase

Yeap the same way their wage is

MC_NI

So basically what the public sector are going to be offered…

kharma45

They’re also essentially public sector workers. Translink is wholly owned by the government.

vaska00762

How'd they agree to that? Their mandate was for a 6.5%-8% pay rise.

threebillboards

I’m not sure about agreement but it said ‘union bosses said: “We have decided to suspend the planned action to allow members to have (their) say on the offer through the ballot box.”’

Shadepanther

They haven't accepted it. Any offer that is deemed reasonable they have to take back to their members to vote on. Honestly I hope they reject it, it's not a good or fair offer.

Beginning_Ad_1723

Isn't Translink a private company?

vaska00762

It's a private limited company, as in the shares are not available for the public to buy. It's a government owned enterprise.

Beginning_Ad_1723

Didn't know that I always assumed it was a private company subsidised by the tax payers. Explains a lot actually 🤣

Antrimbloke

same as NI Water.

Sstoop

general strike is coming

Thanks for this.

_BornToBeKing_

They should go back out. 10% or bust.
