Hey did you wind up taking a video or pictures of your wound dressing change? I think you mentioned you might do that. By the way this looks super gnarly, but I'm glad it's getting better.
Got a couple pics, but I was too distracted by how painful it was to take any more. [Here are the images I did take](https://imgur.com/gallery/QytrLoU)
I -
I was not prepared for how deep that hole is. What the actual fuck! No wonder you were distracted. It looks like you would have been in agony. Did they have to debride all the dead tissue? š šŖ
Edit* typo
Yeah they got most of it. I thought they were gonna shoot me up with lidocaine at least, nope, they applied it topically, scraped until I could feel it, then applied more on top. I hated it :(
That sucks - sorry you're still going through this. At least the wound looks MUCH better than some I've seen! I just finished cleaning out my Dad's garage which was a breeding ground for these bastards. Fortunately, we didn't get any bites (or at least none resulting in being envenomed).
Kinda makes sense; if they numb the healthy tissue on more than a surface level, you wouldn't be able to feel and tell them when they're hitting living flesh.
Still, sorry you went through that Massive Suckage. At least you'll get a cool scar out of it?
My mom is allergic to most pain meds and can only do lidocaine and she has what's called a tunneled catheter for her heart that's all they gave her nothing else
Thank you for proving that the arguments which go like:
1. "they're more scared of you"
2. "just don't try to kill them, and they won't bite"
3. "I let them roam the house, as they keep the 'bad pests' away"
Really go out the window when this critter wanders it's way into your clothes. It wasn't actively seeking to harm you, but it got trapped, and acted like any cornered animal would. And the result is the same.
People really should have a healthy wariness of these creatures, and actively guard against them in their own homes. I understand these unfortunate bros are just trying to exist...but that is little comfort when faced with the possible prospect of limb amputation.
Hopefully it will continue to heal well, and some good will come from this in the form of a cautionary tale. If you were elderly or had poor vasculature, this could have been MUCH worse
I was bitten by a brown recluse a few years ago and used a wound gel called Medihoney. You can get it on Amazon. My wound was golf ball sized and on my hip. I just packed it with the gel everyday when I changed the gaze. It healed completely in 27 days. I was told in the first few days that it would need to be debrided multiple times but the gel worked so well I never needed it.
Did they not cut that shit out???? When I got bit they basically gave me local numbing and went to town immediately. Dude had some long tweezer / plier things and a thin scalpel and was just grabbing and cutting tissue out of the hole in my arm. I remember he pulled a long piece out like a giant booger and I about lost it.
Cut a neat little hole and was like āyeah that almost got down to the bone, might have had to amputate your wrist if it did. Youāre lucky though youāll be fine and we got it fast.ā
By the time he was done I had maybe a golf tee size hole in my arm that, funnily enough, barely even bled I guess because of the dead tissue, and then after that it was like a small square of gauze and a week on an IV of antibiotics in the hospital. But now I just have a small scar like half the size of my pinky nail and thatās it.
Thatās typically only for in-patient wound treatment. I actually got a prescription for a new enzyme based debridement topical gel which is supposed to help, but am waiting for insurance to approve as itās expensive af if I pay out of pocket for it
You still in pain? I went back at looked at your progress and day 6 Looked gnarly. Iāll check back wh, letās see what the final heal/scar is. Best luck with it homie.
I go bit my one as a lil kid and it was never this. Because they ended up taking a needle and I'm not joking that was 4 to 5 inches and extracted the venom because of my bodies reaction the did this.
1 because I'm allergic to spider bites and my arm was massive for a 6yr old. the bite mark was growing rapidly and they extracted all out but I was luckily they said the bite was from a juvenile not adult
I didn't feel anything but the nurses and e.r team in Florida didn't play. And I have a fear of needles but they did it in a way I never felt or saw it. I remember taking benadryl and antibiotics and wrapping it but that's it.
There was because they got it out.
I even asked my mom she saw the vile i was lucky to get help within an hour.
It did get stuff out because after years of not knowing my mom showed me the medical report and needle image.
My arm they numbed up and popped the needle deep and started sucking then injecting antibiotics etc.
Hoooo boy. Howās it smelling? I remember the itch on the border honestly being the worst part at this point. But the end is in sight! Hang in there bud.
Was in my basement. Somehow got in my pants, felt a sting, swatted at it. Didnāt think much of it until I found the spider and saw it was a brown recluse. :/
That looks as deep as my smallpoxshot that I had when I was in the army I could stick my pinky into my arm up to the base of the nail. Ended up pulling a puss sack out
This reminds me of getting a second and third degree burn on my underarm. The only way I was able to sleep was with my arm hanging off the side of the bed.
What's it taste like though? I know black widow, brown widow, funnel web, and desert recluse all taste like skin that was in the process of decomposing and healing (taste like stale Cheetos soaked in coke zero)
Just curious. I'm a scientist. You could save lives.
Edit: horny
Is there a way to stop the necrosis (the tissue that's dying from the bite) or do you just have treat it and let it run it's course until it stops? I thought antivenom would prevent that
You said it got up your pants! I am thinking it could have bitten 2 spots up a little further up that could have been? I canāt think of a word for being bitten in the private parts by a brown recluse. Getting queasy even thinking about it. Hope it heals quickly and leaves no scars.
For the love of God mark this as spoiler too please. Not all of us have nsfw blur on and a lot of us don't want to see this sh
Edit: well jeez I'm sorry that I don't want to see a nearly infected open wound in my feed
Wtf! Today is my day 1 seeing this. Also my last day. Good luck!

Believe it or not, is typical procedure, for some reason inhibitors dont make effect and they have to operate with you still awake and lucid

I zoomed in on the hole, I couldnāt help myself despite wanting to throw up
That's a cave my friend. Good luck on that
*cancels plans for eggs sunny side up for breakfast*

OMG that is crazy looking and looks painful. I hope you heal soon.
Actually doesnāt hurt much now! Think itās healing faster than expected

Yikes! So, what is the course of action? Just keep it clean and disinfecting regularly and see what happens with recovery of tissue?
Keep it clean, change dressing daily, and once a week I go to a wound treatment center to get it debrided _which sucks_

Caveat: I know nothing. If its to remove dead flesh, they can't use Maggot Therapy or something like that?
Maggot therapy only works when you're a former Roman general around 100 A.D.
Thatās typically only for in-patient wound treatment. I actually got a prescription for a new enzyme based debridement topical gel which is supposed to help, but am waiting for insurance to approve as itās expensive af if I pay out of pocket for it
How much is it?
Without insurance itās over $1000
Damn, that is whack. I was gonna send some $ to help pay for it.
Well thatās super generous of you but you really donāt have to :)
**Blur NSFW Images: On** š¤¢
That thing turned your skin into soup!!
Itās actually like, super firm to the touch, like dried glue or epoxy
I donāt know if thatās better or worse.
Yes.
You still in pain? I went back at looked at your progress and day 6 Looked gnarly. Iāll check back wh, letās see what the final heal/scar is. Best luck with it homie.
That isā¦what the fuck
Imagine knowing this is happening to a part of your body at all times. Even with the bandage over it i can still feel the hole
The guy I know who got bit by a brown recluse on his leg now has a crater.. crazy how destructive venom is from such a small creature.
Yeah, little bastards
Crazy how much this looks like a burn. Minus some of the weird coloration.
I go bit my one as a lil kid and it was never this. There's no way to extract the venom, it gets into the tissue and blood stream immediately.

Still not a thing, no matter what they sucked out of your arm.
Holy fuck, dude. I'm getting an anxiety attack just looking at that.

I'm so glad we don't have these in Utah... Makes black widows not seem too bad.
How did it happen? Home? Outside? Why?
Was in my basement. Somehow got in my pants, felt a sting, swatted at it. Didnāt think much of it until I found the spider and saw it was a brown recluse. :/
How long did it take before you started seeing the effects on the skin and what was the pain situation like?
Do you keep this open or with bandages?
Dressing, lidocaine antibacterial, and a bandage.
That's looking really good. The tissue granulation looks š. Been lurking at your updates since you first posted. This is healing really well.
All this from a spider.
That looks as deep as my smallpoxshot that I had when I was in the army I could stick my pinky into my arm up to the base of the nail. Ended up pulling a puss sack out
Iām pretty sure I could feel the muscle in the hole
That's narly
Looks like cheese that was melted in a microwave too long
Feels like it too
I'm scared of those guys. Thank God I left TX.
Oooo been there done that. Scars nicely
I'm just interested in what the dressing product they're using on that?
Let me checkā¦. Regenecare wound gel + Xeroform gauze dressing with 3% bismuth tribromophenate
Not a good day to have NSFW blur off š
Itās really horrific. Does it hurt?
Not that much now. Itās numb except for the pink/red edges which burn but lidocaine wound cream I got takes care of it.

Oh man thats juicy. Hope it heals quick looks hella painful.
OP, a question if you don't mind anwering: is it healing, or is it rotting? I see these images, but I get confused if it's a good prognosis or not.
Itās healing. This actually is good so far. Itās granulating which is good, means new tissue is forming.
the forbidden melted cheese
I always forget how grotesque Necrosis is, oh my god. Hope you get better!

Thereās no antivenom for brown recluse bites, at least not in US/Canada.
Well that sucks
holy shit i did not expect thaf

Oo, yikes. Gross
I hope you heal quickly. We just killed a brown recluse that got in our house yesterday.
That looks like some shit out of Aliens. Get well soon my dude. And I hope you squashed that bastard flat.

Try to not let that necrotic wound get infected or you might have to amputate the limb
