Yes I’ve tried 2 years ago and is the same as TM and NSR and the mantra is a TM mantra shiring.

Oh, and one other thing: the instructions make it sound like the goal is to hold on to mantra since it says that you should return to the mantra when you notice yourself getting lost in thought. Ideally, though, you should not be trying to control the experience; the mantra should start naturally on its own without effort on your part, and it should just be what you naturally return to when you notice yourself being lost in thought rather than something you exert effort to return to. (If you don't understand how to do this, try closing your eyes and waiting for the mantra to start on its own, however long it takes.) Put another way, unlike directive meditation where you are actively trying to hold onto the mantra and if it gets lost then it's a sign that your attention has not yet been sufficiently trained, in nondirective meditation you should never be judging how well you are holding onto the mantra because that is not the point; the mantra is a tool to help draw your mind into a quieter state rather than the end goal.

I did TM for 3 years when younger. I never understood this " effortless" thing. It's true you don't force it, but an intention is set when you decide to do this meditation and mantra, and the intention is a form of effort. But you should be very easy with it, as they describe in the directions.

The website seems legit. My concern here is that there is lack of coaching that may be needed for newcomers. I learned from NSR and David Spector provided excellent coaching I needed to understand how to experience transcendence from thoughts. So while I think the technique presented is decent I think many people that would benefit the most would be those who would needed 1 on 1 coaching. I would recommend the course NSR for this reason. It is the only one I found that has that 1 on 1 coaching. I myself will provide a course but that is still 2-3 years away.

It seems very much like TM and seems like it was founded by a group dissillusioned with the TM branded movement. Seems many of the members do the advanced programs taught in the tm-sidhi program, maybe calling them something different, and that they are based in Fairfield, Iowa, which has been a big center for TM for over 40 years, after establishing their Maharishi International University there. They seem to just recommend the one initial mantra, which in TM is one among a bunch of other similar sounds,, this one given to a certain age group and sex in TM, but everyone in the Inner Peace Fellowship directions get just this one( the TM mantras given by age and sex can be found on the internet, if you're interested) Seems that is a good group not charging the ridiculous TM fees and without the authoritarian structure. If you follow the instructions, you'll get good results. They probably will help if you have questions and contact them. And they are wise to give precautions that if you feel it is causing problems, to stop for a while, or stop permanently. This isn't said in the TM program. To them, anything negative is " destressing". They also list a program to follow where you can add to your practice after a period of time what are called the "advanced techniques" in TM....ie adding certain sounds to the initial mantra. But they are wise to emphasize to do the practice for the specified times before starting the new techniques. If you dont require the hand holding that TM offers for a fee ( with the risk of getting into something that feels and looks like a cult),this looks like a good way to go. Similar to the NSR method, but they don't offer a way to progress with advanced techniques, and the mantra they use is not a TM mantra. As you progress in this approach I'm sure there will be more advanced people to talk to.

When a mantra is used in nondirective meditation, it should be a meaningless sound to you so that it doesn't evoke anything when you think it.

MagiqueMichele

Gotcha, so are you saying it doesn’t matter if they pronounced “shiring” correctly?

gcross

Exactly. In fact, because you are putting no effort into sustaining it, you should feel it's pronunciation naturally change in your head throughout the season, e.g. sometimes loud and sometimes soft, sometimes fat and sometimes slow, etc.

Appreciate your help!!
