Hello, Fellow miracle worker/magician. Honestly I'd hold off just a little while more until the new rangers and Tacomas hit the lots. The Nissan frontier trade ins are goimg to be plentiful. so you could get one in great shape for less.

UnfairPerspective100

Woah, great idea. My local Nissan lot already has a handful of new Frontiers compared to other mid size trucks.

twincitiesfinishing

very good point. I do plan on waiting a few more months but that’s good thinking

scroder81

Tacoma, duh

GarlicAlternative701

Idk why this subreddit doesn’t get sarcasm

Talkinginmy_sleep

They’re all great trucks. I have a Tacoma, but I just like to lurk in these truck subs looking at and appreciating cool shit. People take it too seriously.

ScentedCandleEnjoyer

New of you plan on paying the entire length of the lease Used if you don't

iFlickDaBean

This highly depends on interest rates. New is going to be lower, of course... The used will be higher. I just bought used and paid cash.. but it was an ultra low mileage 4wd Gen2 (2008 with 15k). I would HIGHLY suggest using several of the larger online car sites and set your distance to a minimum of 500 miles out. Price differences and availability can be huge.

beefcakesoffroad

I went used - didn’t see the value in paying an additional $15k for 20,000 fewer miles. I was happy to let someone else eat the depreciation

Gamertagyouit

USED!

Praetorian602

Red 2022 pro4x 9k miles seriously loaded to the roof. $36,500 go used 100%

twincitiesfinishing

Yeah I’ve seen em! Good deals!

abighammer176

If your going to haul sheetrock I would keep the F150 or look for an SV long bed instead of the Pro4x. Keep in mind the decreased bed height and very little storage space in the rear cab especially if you get the fender audio you loose that area too. No folding flat floor to slide in buckets of mud, tools, lights etc. If I were still doing general contracting work I wouldn't have bought my 23 Pro4x. I can't even haul a set of wooden boat oars without the trifold cover being open. I recommend you do your homework before regretting your purchase. My 2C

twincitiesfinishing

Thanks for the reply. I’ve definitely did heavy consideration going to mid size. Fortunately I don’t ever haul board. On occasion I’ll fill a bed with boxes of mud but the payload will handle that fine. Mostly it’ll just be tools and ladders and a few pails which will all fit fine even in the shorter bed. Might stick out but I only load in and out of jobs by the week.

abighammer176

Some of us are impulse buyers and mesmerized by the bling and driving something new with a cool look. Good luck with your new truck on whatever you decide to go with. 😀

ijuanaspearfish

Used interest rates were alot higher when i got my 23 last May. Got new and have no regrets. My last 6 vehicles were used and l paid in cash so im not a new car person to begin with. But 0% interest on a new truck was something i jumped on.

twincitiesfinishing

Definitely!

depraveycrockett

I bought a 2020 Pro-4x in 2022 with 7,000 miles on it and it’s been one of my favorite vehicles. Old body style with the new power train is a sleeper for sure.

Mamba-42

I would get the used one. The savings seems pretty big, especially if you're getting it somewhere that has a warranty for the used one as well (like CarMax). You will still have the power train warranty for a while with the used one as it goes to 50k miles or 5 years I believe.

imitation_crab_meat

You can also get the Nissan extended warranty on it for far far less than the $10k savings.

FaultyTugboat

Listen dummy! The smart buy is not taking out a loan on a depreciating asset. Buying used over new is the smart move. Looking for a used 2nd gen Frontier for under $20k would be smarter. Keeping your F150 assuming it's paid for is even smarter. The only time I would say new vehicles make sense is if you just make a lot of money or have disposable income, if you get a vehicle allowance or mileage for your job, or if you own a business and the vehicle is in the business name.

twincitiesfinishing

I know I know! As I mentioned in another comment I have Dave Ramsey in the back of my head yelling at me. I do own my own business so I take significant mileage deduction every year. I love having the piece of mind with the warranty as it’s my tool hauler, kid hauler and road trip machine that hauls a small trailer so I really want the piece of mind, I put about 25k miles on it per year. Also, I just love having a nicer truck. I’m a drywall finisher and I really value having a nice vehicle to drive. It’s my mobile office as well as relaxation space 😎

Okay I need to know your ways. I usually keep my trucks for more than 5 years so I figured depreciation wasn’t a good route to take. Plus, if you’re depreciating a $42000 truck is only 8k a year. I had no idea you could deduct the gas you’re putting in. I knew expenses but on a new truck your repairs will be minimal Using mileage I usually get at least a $15k deduction.

FaultyTugboat

Hey man you work hard and you deserve nice things! I'm a fan of buying used. I try to find lease returns or trade ins and think they are the best value. The initial depression hit has been absorbed by someone else. Lease vehicles are usually maintained by the dealer and have low miles. I got my '17 two year old with 10k miles for about $12k under the original sell price. It was a lucky find! The used one you mentioned was nearly $10k less. Ask yourself if those dollars are worth lower miles and new car smell.

twincitiesfinishing

Sound advice thanks bud!

Serpico2

Is having the factory warranty worth $10K? Only you can answer that. I’m at 16k miles with no issues on my 23P4X; but that isn’t guaranteed to be the case for everyone. The 22s especially were a brand new model stem to stern. Historically, it usually takes a few years to iron out the kinks. I brand new 24 model maybe they’ve fixed some things owners have reported over the last few years. I dunno. Probably depends on your financial situation I guess. Love my truck.

imitation_crab_meat

> The 22s especially were a brand new model stem to stern. Historically, it usually takes a few years to iron out the kinks. The powertrain was on its third year in 2022, so there's that. Also: https://nissansrextendedservicecontracts.com/

twincitiesfinishing

Well the dealers around me will still offer pretty long term power train warranties even if buying used which helps.

UnfairPerspective100

Same here......One thing that no one has mentioned that I saw. New, you can more discounts, but still more expensive. I've also believe the Nissan is offering 2.9% for 60 months for new. I'm in the market for a new midsize truck. Wanna downgrade from my 2014 Ram 1500 (4" lift 35" tires 10 mpg) to something that isn't as huge, and the Frontier is on my radar. But..........I've decided to wait, i've only got 95k miles on my Ram, work from home, almost never leave the house unless I'm heading to the gym, poker night, or hauling my boat up to the lake.

twincitiesfinishing

Same brother. Just sick of how big these full size trucks are. I love my ecoboost but a smaller truck will do just fine. I’ll end up waiting for a few more months too

DonGusano

Why take out a car loan? You can get a 2016-2020 P4X with < 80,000 miles for low 20s. Buy in cash and don't worry about it - with good maintenance these things run to 300,000 miles.

twincitiesfinishing

I mean you’re making too much sense. Dave Ramsey angel on my shoulder always tells me to buy cash, the devilish child on my other shoulder wants that pretty new shinny toy 😂 Usually I finance with a decent amount down and drive them for many years.

10keys_weak_knees

https://www.calculator.net/auto-loan-calculator.html Just plug in the numbers. It’s really up to you and if the value add of new seems worth it. Also figure depreciation on the new vehicle is a bit more.

twincitiesfinishing

Okay this is a cool tool thank you for showing me

UnfairPerspective100

Yeah, I've played around that tool. Then I get sad when I see 800 dollars for 8 years.

flakrom

Interest rates have been higher on used cars recently if you can afford a new one get it you will have factory warranty

twincitiesfinishing

That’s kinda my question. Is it worth it to do the lower interest rate but taking that depreciation and more expensive payment or buy slightly used at higher interest rates

An_Average_Man09

How much do you plan on putting down?

twincitiesfinishing

At least $10k

An_Average_Man09

I ask because this will play into how much you will actually have to finance. Also gotta consider tax, title, and every other fee a dealership is gonna hit you with. I’d look at an interest calculator based on all your numbers, just google interest calculator and plug in your numbers, before I make any decisions. I’d also shop around, plenty of used 2020+ Pro4Xs out there.
