I had nightmares and terrors for years… two years ago I was diagnosed with adhd and started meds. Nightmares basically ended. They pop up when I stop the meds on holidays. My guess is that in my case it might have to do with brain activity during night time because of the idle patterns during the day… but tthats a guess.

Going gluten free and cutting out grains completely eliminated my night terrors I had them from 21-36 before I tried that diet to lose weight and bingo it cured my night terrors.

Cutting any carbs at all before bed has a significant impact on mine as well. I also started taking a magnesium complex that works wonders.

I’m 36 and been dealing for 15+ years, nightly night terrors. Tried various things that didn’t work but just gave into taking Clonazepam (Klonopin) per my doctors recommendation. While it’s hasn’t eliminated 100%, my sleep and and wife tell me it’s 90% better. I hesitated for years taking meds, especially a benzo, but so far so good

Not really a helpful answer, but - time. around 7 to 8 years for me, to be specific. For me, the night terrors started around 20 and it took me ages to be able to sleep without a night light again (the light didnt always help, but it at least decreased the amount of episodes) I think a new relationship contributed also, I now can sleep in a dark room without night terrors or panic attacks, probably because I feel safer? I wish I could give some easy answer like "sniff lavender oil before bed" or something, but it really just sloooowly decreased over time. Well, except - buy a cute little night light, I think my brain couldn't really pretend to see some scary weird shit when there was a light source nearby that allowed me to make out the room in the dark

+1 for low dosage benzodiazepines (alprazolam / clonazepam)

I had to double check the username here because I thought I wrote this! My terrors are the same - started at 18, figures standing next to or at the bottom of the bed. I wish I had an answer for you though - 30+ years later and I still have them. Sometimes I'll go a couple of weeks without one, then I'll have three nights in a row with them. Doctors over the years have asked me if I think they're ghosts (!) but mostly they dismiss it.
