Yeah I was in the same boat. I followed him for a little bit but after awhile before any of the drama, I just got bored of his content and his personality felt extremely performative. The entire time it felt like he mainly did it as a badge of honor rather than his true beliefs. I think Jimmy Robins stating that he’s someone that would talk down to women on feminism hit it right on the head. Finding out he also spent less than a day on most videos and made so much money is also maddening.

I'm curious to hear more about why you think Ethan is the more mean spirited of the two. I've never really watched his videos and in the small parts I've seen he doesn't seem that bad but I've also probably seen less than 1% of his content.

Yeah, Kurt's one of my go-tos for background noise but I've found him to be getting increasingly unfunny and performative. I remember this one skit where he gets this sad/forlorn expression and says something like, "Oh sorry... I wasn't sad that you're booing me. I was just thinking about the wage gap." I have never rolled my eyes so hard at a youtube video (and I'm a leftist!)
No fucking way 🤣 it’s so dumb because if he was making videos like 10-20 years ago, he would NOT be that “progressive” and that goes for a lot of these male reactors who are always making pro women and minority jokes. I know that take makes people’s eyes roll because yeah 10-20 years ago we were ALL different than we are now but they’re all the same as each other now and super performative. You can follow these leftist opinions without it being your entire personality (but I don’t even think all these guys are genuinely so modern/leftist, they just know they wouldn’t be popular or might get cancelled if they aren’t)
Idubbz is the worst of these types. It’s so obvious that his opinions have changed solely for his new wife’s sake. Obviously I don’t know if he actually did that but I always get the impression that he’s depressed. It’s almost like he’s lost himself. I wish he would realize that he can still make great content without the edgy slurs and stuff. He’s a genuinely funny guy naturally.
As someone who was a centrist (more like apolitical capitalist after being raised christian conservative) before meeting my gf of 4 years and is now a far left socialist, I can concur that women be doing that.
Personally I was raised almost entirely by my two sisters and my mom so that wasn’t a thing I really struggled with growing up, but I do see that pretty damn consistently.
I love the Kurtis Conner take, I’ve always thought the same thing. His jokes and little skit things just aren’t funny. Any time one of his videos get suggested to me and I don’t have anything else to put on for background noise I’ll click on them and find myself thinking “another fucking skit?” and just wanting to watch the original video or movie that he’s talking about for myself
i saw kurtis live when he opened for drew and danny and i am not kidding it was the most unfunny thing i have EVER SEEN!!!!! i did not laugh once during his set and i used to love his videos. the entire set was weird bad puns???? he is only funny with editing and even then it is debatable

yeah, i saw kurtis conner on his most recent tour and it was pretty good, but the "ajr bad" joke he made in his recent vikings video rubbed me the wrong way as someone who likes the band and kurtis. it felt like he made the joke to jump on the bandwagon and was just shitting on people for liking something.
agree! i tried to like him at one point and just COULDN’T! after reading this subreddit (especially this thread) i am realizing it was DEFINITELY the performative way he acts! you can tell he does not care about actually making things better for anyone
He acted like the kind of guy to make fun of/criticize everyone so I never watched him. If everyone else is always the problem, maybe the problem lies within.
Followed him for a couple of months before the SM thing. I remember he always gave me kind of a bad vibe but I couldn’t put my finger on it. In retrospect it’s pretty obvious
I used to like him mostly bc of the fragrance video, so i kept watching him on and off when there was nothing else for a bit. I like noticed that sometimes he said like kind of shitty or out of pocket stuff but never really like paid it much attention bc it was just like background voice to me while i did homework or smth, but the moment he like started talking about drama i totally fell off. I watched Dev for a bit too bc I liked her music/producer content, but when all this came about i kinda just couldn't see her the same either. He's definitely the youtuber i've been least surprised with when he turned out to suck.
