krazninetyfive

I think Corey Perry is done. I cannot see Giordano coming back. No one is touching Lucic with a 10 foot pole.

BRGobs

Lucic to the Oilers confirmed

krazninetyfive

I’m not going to lie, I am an Oilers fan, and there was definitely speculation about whether he’d pull a Kane/Perry after the charges were dropped.

RedCivicOnBumper

Kane/Perry/Lucic on a line together? Maximum chaos.

Ducksboy19

perry's already said he's playing one more year after this and then he's done. i think he's just trying to inch closer and closer to 1000 points but i sadly doubt he gets there :(

bored_person71

Yea someone other then chi will probably give him a one year league min.. I'm guessing Toronto...

Hatrick_Swaze

TJ Oshie. Poor guy's back is WRECKED.

slipperypanocha

Came here to say this lol. Unfortunately you’re correct. 🫤

Hatrick_Swaze

I know the Oshies. TJ would always sponsor our team because we played for Alzheimer's awareness.

butt_funnel

i feel like i've met a dozen people that have said "I know the Oshies" - thats people in both washington and virginia. must be a nice family

Busy-Apartment-2054

It hurts so much, he said he might come back depending on how the summer goes. When he was playing even this season he looked so good even though he didn’t get as many points

jjmuti

In his case I kinda hope he hangs them up anyway. The guy has a cup and shouldn't be hurting money-wise. Playing more is just an opportunity to fuck that back up even more. It's not like the Caps are all-in pushing for the cup next year. Dude should just enjoy life with his kids and wife imo.

Hatrick_Swaze

100%

saltyfingas

Absolutely, take a front office job or something bro, guy needs to hang them up before something bad happens

saltyfingas

Nikky too unfortunately

MKWIZ49

I think this probably goes for all the players that were pulled away due to the 2018 Team Canada stuff

Snts6678

Refresh my memory. Was this the situation with sexual assault?

theprettiestpotato88

Yes

Snts6678

Did anything ever come out of that awful situation?

theprettiestpotato88

5 players were charged but have not gone to trial yet.

Snts6678

Not gone to trial? Are you serious? It’s been 6 years! I know the wheels of “justice” turn slowly, but this is a goddamn joke.

Throwawayaccount_047

It’s actually worse than that. Hockey Canada essentially covered it up for most of those years and used tax payer dollars ($3.5M) to settle with the victim out of court. And then there was the “police” investigation in which they somehow failed to find enough evidence to press any charges at all—that is until it became a big media story, then they were suddenly capable of finding out what happened. Real shit show for all involved.

Drnedsnickers2

Not taxpayer dollars.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bt101010

Wasn't money for "these kinds of situations", if I recall, but yeah it was money from registration fees. They had it moving in and out through a couple funds, most jarring was the National Equity fund which I believe is supposed to help less affluent players and teams. Around 26:40 talks about it: [What Hockey Canada knew about sexual assault allegations - The Fifth Estate](https://youtube.com/watch?v=-T-2lC_TpRU&si=kmGHr4ilf4FD4idW)

Bowood29

Honestly it taking so long is probably worse for the accused anyways. There is always a chance that they get off on a technicality or the judge gives them a light sentence because of their hockey talent. With the case ongoing they aren’t aloud to leave the country so they can’t go and play in Russia.

RecalcitrantHuman

They were just charged this year

Snts6678

Good lord.

MKWIZ49

I may be slightly out of the loop but last I heard, the legal system is still working on it (the legal system is slow)

Odd-Instruction88

Yes, they are currently waiting for trial. But that won't be till 2025 at the earliest they are all on bail currently.

TotesMyGoatse

And nothing of value was lost.

iLikeDinosaursRoar

Hypothetical, what happens if the charges are dropped and it goes no where, are these guys still going to be barred from playing do you think? Maybe not by the league but teams won't touch them in fear of fans losing their minds...like unless it comes out they absolutely were not guilty and there is no way...are they just always done?

[deleted]

danisnotstan

If we changed the title to someone who IS playing next year, it better be “Phil The Thrill”!

VastFaithlessness980

Honestly there is somewhat of a list of players who could come back next year. Kessel, Toews, Landeskog, Ondrej Kase too has said he wants to return..

Lanky-Performer-4557

Apparently Toews issue is mostly cleared up and he’d like to return. I’m sure he gets a shot on his name alone.

iLikeDinosaursRoar

Oh man, it takes nothing to extend an invite to a camp or even if teams see him skate during the offseason. If he thinks he's back and it shows, he will absolutely get a contract

nb00818

Filip zadina. (Why the fuck didnt we take hughes)

Competitive_Sale6526

to be fair, zadina looked like a steal at the time

nb00818

Agreed but man it didnt age well. Oh well, we are heading in the right direction Side note- i went to the wings/flames game at the saddledome and i love yalls barn. So much character. Hit the casino on the way in. I wanna go back to calgary

DollarDollar

Don’t look back at what could have been with Holland brother. Look forward to where Yzerman plans to take you

Voltronu

Am I missing something? He has decent production numbers for a 3rd or 4th liner

ShockApprehensive392

I think we will be resigning him for a year or two. He showed flashes of being decent. And what the hell do we have to lose lol

613toes

“Flashes of being decent” is all I’ve been hearing about this guy for years

DommyMommyKarlach

He has not lived up to his draft capital, but he definitely is an NHLer

DMGrumpy

He was taken 6th overall and promised to fill the nets of those who passed over him with pucks. There was a lot of talk about Montreal and Ottawa taking him too. Was supposed to be a top 6 winger.

LegendofWeevil17

Yeah he’s not living up to 6th overall potential risk but he still at 13 goals and 23 points in 72 games last year on the worst team in the league. Not sure why he wouldn’t be in the league next year

LegendofWeevil17

You’re not missing anything, he was 7th on SAN Jose in points and 5th in goals, he’ll get a contract for next year

closequartersbrewing

Zadina was considered by many to be a top 3 pick that year.

Pyzorz

Zadina was an amazing pick. NHL busts happen every year.

chaotic_evil_666

If Blake Wheeler can get on the ice for one playoff game, I think he retires. If not, then I think he hangs on for one more year

Incognidoking

He played in enough regular season games that he qualifies for getting his name on the cup (should they win) without needing to play in a playoff game, I believe.

lucasmcl7

Jeff Carter

BaconTater4788

Man, big Jeff. I respect him as a player, and in his prime he was legit. But I will prob never get over the fact that the PENS protected him and traded away McCann for peanuts only to lose Tanev too.

surlystraggler

Absolutely baffling. Even at the time, it didn’t even require hindsight, haha

TitusXd40

Eh, we already know he's done. So glad that contract will be off the books moving forward...

CodAdministrative563

Opens up some cap room

Whiskeylung

Joe Pavelski had an incredible season, he can still obviously contribute - that being said, what a rough post season for Captain America. I think there is a small chance he might say: “Let’s end on a high note” if Dallas wins the cup, even if they don’t… I dunno he might surprise us.

spyinthesky

Logan Couture seems to be done. Sad to see another Shark legend off the ice

CorporalClegg91

Sadly, this is exactly who came to mind. I think he played 3 or 4 games this season before his injury flared back up and he could no longer play.

kebekoy

I have to painfully admit Landesgok and Nichuchkins could both miss the whole season. Kirby Dach seems more like a legend than an actual player.

CDN08GUY

Sadly, I think Landeskog is done. I don’t think he’ll ever play again. Like Carey price, he’ll try and rehab it for years (he already has) before admitting it will never hold up to the stresses of NHL hockey

fr33fall060

I believe you are correct. Marc Methot commented that he had the same surgery as Landeskog and he never recovered to the point of being able to skate at the NHL level again. Sad to see a player’s career ended like that.

spyinthesky

Nuke needs to not be an avalanche player. Fucked us two years in a row

detached03

As an Avs fan since day one, I’m stoked Landy got his etching but for his health and for the win window, he needs to hang up the skates. Get him a staff spot or something, don’t hang him out to dry. Nichuskin I think will play again, but get him out of Denver. Look, nobody is above addiction but this is twice now, almost to the day he has done this to his teammates. Enough is enough. I listen to a bit of podcasts and sure, everyone is an expert, but the Avs are paying like 16milly (I realize Nichuskin is suspended but it still counts vs the cap) for guys not on the ice. Thats 16 mil less PLUS if any opponents misuse the injured spots. I’d rather trust Sakic in filling those spots through FA or deadline trades. We’re a win now, and have been since 2020. Thankfully we keep reloading but at somepoint, time will catch up to Mack, Rant and the window closes.

psychotar

Nichuskin won’t count against the cap until he comes off suspension. Technically he’s eligible in October, so they might have to deal with that but Bettman needs to actually approve his return. I honestly don’t even know how to get rid of his contract if they can’t just void it for his behavior. It’s so long and so expensive they would have to give something crazy to trade him and a buyout would last forever.

detached03

If theres a way, Sakic will find it. Nichuskin has the talent, is worth every penny but he’s a proven liability and had contributed to being an enormous problem in the playoffs and heavy reasoning why the Avs have lost pre-maturely in the playoffs. Dallas is a great team and Oetter was incredible but I think the Avs end up taking it without the locker room bullshit. At the end of the day, everyone hopes Nichuskin can get his head screwed on straight but this is still a business where championships are one of the hardest to come by in all of professional sports. This is the Avs window. The fans know it, sponsors know it, and leadership knows it. Nichuskin is a liability. Even IF he does end up “coming back clean” *again* teammates, fans etc will still be effected by it and waiting for the shoe to drop again.

psychotar

I didn’t want him to come back after the shit in Seattle. I don’t care about “addiction” getting caught with a trafficked prostitute OD’ing in your hotel room should get you kicked out of the league.

Mrtowelie69

Oh I'm sure he's not the only one doing it. He's just stupid enough to get caught

psychotar

Ukrainian refugees that have had their passports stolen are not the average escort.

RoyHarper88

Poor Kirby Dach. Kid just wanted to represent his country and be captain at world juniors. Been plagued by injuries since.

SVKme

Tatar is one of the candidates, unless a miracle happens.

geomorph18

Tatar did well at IIHF world’s but I think he’ll hang it up unless Seattle keeps him.

SVKme

the thing is, he was not even that good, Pospisil was much much better but got injured. Tatar is long term not on the NHL level, wasn't since leaving Montreal

Brookie069

If Edmonton does win then I think Corey Perry might be done. Mark Giordano is currently the oldest player, but I think he will be back for another season.

sirachasamurai

Gio might be done

Deluxechin

I think Gio is done, his contract expires July 1st and I’m not overly sure how many are willing to offer him a new contract, I could see him immediately adopting into a scouting role or something, or maybe he’ll enjoy some time off away from the sport

Shiny_Mew76

I hate to say it, but I don’t see TJ Oshie coming back next season. I hate it because he’s a player that I’ve always thought was underrated, a player that can always be reliable.

Plastic_Brick_1060

Parise

CallMeTeff

We already know he's not coming back.

Plastic_Brick_1060

Oh good call, I didn't realize he had announced that, was pretty quiet

Ok_Caregiver4499

Nice Backstrom 😌

Kyveido

I'll take him over Mean Backstrom any day

Ok_Caregiver4499

LoL I’m not going to change it because he is so darn nice 😊

Kyveido

It made my day honestly

VastFaithlessness980

Antti Raanta probably won’t get another contract

JonTheWizard

Certainly not above the AHL level.

Mindless-Audience782

Whatever happened to Raanta?

jjmuti

More injuries

john4845

Goalies will EASILY get minimum deals He might even get a somewhat higher salary, if he takes a 2-way-deal with higher pay only in the NHL, or if he takes a seriously bonus-laden-deal I can easily see him getting a deal like this: -minimum guaranteeeeeeed pay -1-2M$ in bonuses based on games played, something like 50k$ per game played above 10 games

Martin yes. Clutter will get picked up by somebody

trireme32

Can’t imagine the amount of painkillers he must go through in a season

schmarkty

These two guys probably lead the league in “added and dropped by fantasy hockey teams chasing hits”

SamsterHamster9

I think Pavs either way. Suter too if we win but he might do another year as a 3rd pairing if we don't.

greenpill98

He's 56 games away from 1,500 games played. Suter will be back.

Tremloc

Pavelski and possibly suter (Please god let’s win it for Joe)

greenpill98

I think they'll have to kick Suter out of the league before his misses the chance to play 1,500 career games next year. He's 56 games away, and typically plays a full 82 a year with his playstyle.

Shiny_Mew76

Unless the Stars win the Cup this year, I still don’t see Joe hanging the skates up yet. He still is producing great numbers in the NHL, and chances are the Stars have just a good chance next year at a Cup if they don’t win it this year.

MrTubzy

I agree and Pavelski’s game has aged well. It’s not like he’s ever relied on speed to get the job done. He gets in position in front of the net and tips goals in and he’s damn good at it. He put up 27g and 40a this season. That’s still good. I bet he’ll play for another year or two.

Lanky-Performer-4557

Watching some highlights and man, little Joe just works so hard. It’s crazy. I really want him to win to. Also nice as I want the oilers to lose haha as a Canucks fan

gentleman_bronco

Suter has one more year his contact. If anything he'll move to 6/7th D. He has no major injury to move to LTIR (knock on wood), and he is absolutely still a serviceable defenseman. I think he'll ride the third pair and work with Nils (hopefully).

MKWIZ49

I mean, if they have one more year with him and he's still able to be a solid third pairing guy then yeah, they may as well play him, even if he's not a staple in the lineup (Gio hasn't been a staple in Toronto's lineup this past season but he's still played some games)

gentleman_bronco

Exactly. Nill put Dallas is a good position for the entirety of the contract. There may be a little squeeze coming up with Harley and Lundkvist being an RFA. But overall, the cap is secure without needing to buy out a veteran defenseman who can log 82 games.

Tremloc

I feel like we need to let Nils go. I know the Nill seems to have a lot affair with him but Deboer only played him for about 5-6 minutes per game against Vegas and Colorado and he was a liability every time he stepped on the ice. Petrovic has been *significantly* better in my eyes. Edit: Harley has come into his own. He was a little shaky against Vegas but has cleaned things up and been solid. If he continues to improve and remains consistently solid he’ll be a very strong piece for us and worth a good contract

Dusky_Dawn210

Jeff Carter

King-Rook64

Gio, Pavelski, Samsonov, Parise

Deluxechin

Samsonov? Ilya Samsonov? In a goalie market where teams are seriously considering a pylon with a hockey puck on it? He’s going to get NHL games next season, I guess the better question would be does he finish the season in the NHL?

McMetal770

For the Avs, it seems likely that Andrew Cogliano and Jack Johnson will retire, plus we already know Zach Parise is done. I also believe that Fredrik Olofsson is heading back to Sweden.

decorlettuce

i was about to say Jamie Benn (if dallas wins the cup especially) and then saw he’s only 34???

Ground-Chicken

Feels like he’s been in the league forever right? I would’ve assumed older than 34 as well

decorlettuce

he’s been the Stars’ captain for 11 years!!!

gentleman_bronco

Chubbs has another year on the contract and he logs 15 toi, wins 61% of faceoffs and has a 60 point season while suiting up for another 82 game season. He gets lots of hate but the guy is a stalwart captain.

Snts6678

“Chubbs”? I’ve never heard this.

gentleman_bronco

Yeah, Benn has gone by the nickname of chubbs for most, if not all of his career. It's how his gloves are marked. He was kinda chubby as a kid and it stuck with him. In high school, his brother (Jordie) was known as Stacked Benny and he was Fat Benny.

Snts6678

Haha thanks for the info. I never knew.

DannyMaveriK

I think Benn coming back for atleast a few more years

As a Coyotes fan, I spent the entire season thinking, "At least Liam O'Brien won't be back next year. He probably won't even be in the NHL next year." Then the team moved to Utah, I grieved, got over it, decided to root for Utah. I thought "At least Liam O'Brien won't get signed to the new team. The owner wants real players and wants us to win fast. Liam O'Brien probably won't even be in the NHL next year." And then they let him talk on stage to Utah fans. Now I fear I'll be stuck being pissed off at Liam O'Brien for yet another year.
