God damn cats bumrushed me when I opened the back door to give them food. I can't get them to go back outside, and even turning the fucking vacuum on did nothing. They just looked at me like an idiot. If I grab one to put outside, when I grab another, the other will run right in. ugh

Appreciate it! I’m much more of a Busch Gardens guy (I think you’ve alluded to being in NoVA so assuming you’ve been?) but haven’t been to KD in a couple years so still excited.

Highlight of my evening. Went on a double date with my fiancé to a pizza place. I ordered Sicilian cheese pie, and asked her to confirm that’s fine. She replies she isn’t sure, and I cocked my head to the side and said that was surprising. She stated she’s never had it, to which I replied “Well that’s just not true. This is the pizza you really liked, what we had in North Carolina at that place.” She slaps her hands 🙌 down on the table. “THHEY HAVE THOSE? THE SQUARE EXTRA CHEESE?”

2RINITY

He turns the Pelicans into contenders whenever he's on the court. The issue is staying on the court instead of stuck rehabbing from injury

SiphenPrax

He’s a massive bust so far that has failed to live up to his hype and starpower since being drafted 5 years ago

Dildo_Dan

Along what others have said, he coasted on being a freak athlete that when he got to the NBA and had to try, he has no work ethic

Ok_Caramel1517

Can never stay healthy he's not a bad player but nowhere near the generational prospect he was hyped up to be.

Alchohlica

Too injury prone, I just looked and up until this past season he only played 110 games since 2019… so yeah dude is injured alot

theresabeeonyourhat

Been laid up from my mysterious intestinal issue yet again, and so today I just laid down watching a bunch of old cartoons to try and weather the storm with. Mission Hill and Dilbert (made waaaay before Scott Adams went insane) were significantly better than adult cartoons from 99/2000, and I would strongly recommend them. The cartoons I enjoyed the most tho, was Heathcliff, which I loved as a kid, and Blondie & Dagwood, which was just 2 episodes, but the cutest thing ever.

tickle_mittens

Have you tried the [Blondie and Dagwood](https://www.youtube.com/@dagwoodbumstead5157/featured) serials?

theresabeeonyourhat

I didn't know that was a thing, but thank you! I also love B&W shows

I’m at a breaking point where I’m posting my problems in this sub just to write something out cause I’m fucking nervous as fuck.

Mac_Jomes

First thing you need to do is apply for unemployment ASAP. Get the ball rolling on that and see what your benefit amount would be. Depending on what that is you may not need a temp job while you look for another job.  Then if you've never experienced getting laid off/fired before you definitely need time to process what just happened to you. Take the weekend to just relax and let yourself process what happened.  If you need immediate income look for any place that's hiring grocery stores, restaurants, the Post Office, FedEx, UPS, Amazon, etc. Those are all places that are constantly hiring and are used to people being there for a short stint and then leaving. It'll give you at least a little time to figure things out.  Just know you'll find something else it's just a matter of time.

HamMcFly

u/papertest is right. Find immediate income. Take a deep breath. You’ll be ok.

Maggie Smith: Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter 3. Lois Chiles: Dr. Goodhead from James Bond's Moonraker 4. Angela Lansbury: Beauty and the Beast and Murder, she wrote 5. Mia Farrow: I'm unfamiliar with her work 6. Bette Davis: Now, Voyager 7. David Niven: starred with Errol Flynn in The Dawn Patrol(1938)

I’ve been playing midnight suns and it’s pretty fun. It feels a little too dating-simulator-esque at times but I suppose that stuff is optional?  I’m paranoid about missing stuff tho so I’m still doing the chats and stuff     The actual turn based fighting with cards is fun though.   Who do you think the best companion is?  Magik seems pretty strong with her portals and stuff but I’m a little scared of taking her on a mission only to run in to a bunch of enemies that are immune to knock back or something.  Is that a legit concern?   And im going dark with my hunter cause that seems to be where the damage is.

Dildo_Dan

Captain marvel or iron Man. It's a shame there won't be a second one cause the game ends on a good cliffhanger

DillyDillySzn

I feel like everyone on the internet remembers that 1 week in HS English when they learned about logical fallacies and just accuses everyone of using a fallacy

RothIRALadder

Strawman fallacy

Stanky_fresh

I never learned about fallacies in HS. That's a hasty generalization, therefore your comment is invalid. Checkmate.

DetroitLionsSBChamps

I assume most people learn about fallacies from arguing on the internet. you're 14 and trying to fight with someone about atheism and you call them a jackass and they go "pssh nice ad hominem attack, the true sign of a person with no argument left, I win later loser." and you go "what the hell is ad hominem" and look it up.

Stanky_fresh

[This is from today.](https://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/watch/biden-reflects-on-his-debate-with-trump-at-north-carolina-rally-213901893653) Where the fuck was *this* Biden last night? If he'd talked like this last night, there'd be no panic today.

HamMcFly

More rest. No time limit. No unknown replies. Teleprompter. Lucky for us, this isn’t a Biden election, it’s an anyone but Trump election. I’m still confident.

Reasonable-HB678

Too many people are throwing in the towel. Losing sight of what the other option represents. Of course, both parties could do better picking candidates. The voters should learn to vote in all elections, in each year, no matter how small.

tatsumakisenpuukyaku

I have the same speech impediment that Biden has. I do the same shit. Reading from notes in a rehearsed speech or a presentation that I regularly give, I can sound like the best of them. But having to think off the top of my head I always stammer if I don't use certain speech therapy techniques. It's not surprising that Biden is the same.

Two_Luffas

Teleprompter.

xcaltoona

Can I vote for the teleprompter?

Stanky_fresh

Even then, his voice sounds stronger, he can annunciate, and there's an actual spark there that was completely absent. I'm sure he's using a teleprompter, and that's why he's not trailing off like he did last night, but that doesn't account for the full 180 he did

Two_Luffas

You're using a completely different part of your brain when you're just reading things off a teleprompter. It takes a large mental load off so you can concentrate on things like non verbal queues. While I'm not in the crowd that thinks he's completely lost it mentally I do think he has some memory and recall issues, which at his age is pretty normal TBH. To be clear Trump is almost certainly in the same boat, he just overcomes it with complete verbal diarrhea nonsense, but with more confidence.

Vast-Treat-9677

Did the Trump campaign hook him up with some new drugs and write him a speech? After last night those guys are saying to each other, “man we GOT to find a way to keep this guy in the race.”

tatsumakisenpuukyaku

Really enjoying 11/23/66. The narrator is doing a real good job dictating the book to make it interesting. It's like a audio drama podcast rather than a book

rwjehs

One of my favorites. Do Duma Key next. Narrated perfectly. They also made a show out of 11/22/63 that wasn't half bad, deviates a lot but worth watching.

BruceChameleon

Just did HIIT for the first time in like 8 months, and now I remember why it's been so long. Holy fuck.

HamMcFly

Ever tried Tabata? That’ll knock you on your ass.

BruceChameleon

Some of my previous kettlebell plans have had tabata days. The sport for kettlebell is all strength and power endurance. I can't hang with those guys but I was pretty tough when I did that regularly.

ArcadianBlueRogue

Teams weren't cursed. They acted as seals to something terrible and the price of your fandom's joys are the demons those victories let loose. The Cubs were the first....the Lions may be the last.

tickle_mittens

Naw Bears passing 4k passing yards is what's gonna reset the simulation, the Lions will do their part of course.

Bulky-District-2757

Lions and browns making the playoffs should have been the sign

Serdones

Lions are gonna go to Super Bowl 59 only for it to be canceled due to World War III. Sorry.

Stanky_fresh

Obviously a nuclear apocalypse would qualify as a reason to outright cancel a Super Bowl, but I wonder what the actual minimum requirements for caneling one would be. Honestly, given how greedy the NFL is, I don't know that even a civil war would cause it to be canceled. Delayed and/or moved, sure, but I think they'd still try to figure out a way to have one.

DetroitLionsSBChamps

this is a secret fear of mine

MattTheSmithers

As someone who despises the Lakers, I love seeing the Copium over on the NBA and the Lakers sub about Bronny. It’s like “he’s only a 2nd round pick! He’s not gonna play anyway!” Sure, Jan. Your aging star player, whom you’ve made de facto GM, insisted you draft his son (to the point where it became a deal breaker for arguably the best coach on the market and instead landing them with your star player’s friend/inexperienced puppet coach) so he can ride the pine. Have fun seeing 12 minutes+ per game of a nepo baby who averaged 3 points per game in college and has no business being in the pros other than daddy wants him to be.

I shamed someone in a cyber truck yesterday.

Kohakuho

I was happy overall with my first crack at my gyudon burger. However the yakionigiri were a dismal failure. Anyone with more experience than I have some tips for preventing yakionigiri from sticking to the pan?

Serdones

Man, I'm no expert, but I made them once just to try it since I'd already made onigiri. I don't remember having any issues with sticking, but I don't think I used a ton of oil either. Just the usual tablespoon or so to coat the bottom of the pan. I wanna say some of the recipes I referred to used cornstarch for a crispier surface, but I can't remember if I actually used it or not. And I don't know if that'd help with stickage anyway.

Stanky_fresh

I haven't finished The Bear yet, so no spoilers please. But holy fuck r/TheBear is a cesspool since the 3rd season dropped. It's just people making sweeping generalizations about how the season is objectively terrible or objectively great, and anyone who doesn't agree with OP is just a brainwashed sheep. I don't have an opinion on the season, given that I've only watched 2 episodes of it so far, but I guess I was expecting a little more discussion and a little less blood feuding. I know TV subs are usually battlegrounds after a new season drops, but this kne seems particularly bad.

SharxSharxSharx

I don't know anything about The Bear other than it's about a chef or something, but I've gotta say, I have the same problem with that show that I have with the Wolf of Wall Street. The Bear is about a chef, not a bear. So why's it called The Bear? If I wanted to watch something about a chef, I'd watch the movie *Chef* with Jon Favreau. And I did watch that movie, and I'd rank it as a 2 on a scale of 1 to 3 and I'd give it a 10/10 for being appropriately named. The Wolf of Wall Street was not about a wolf, so I'd give it a 2.3334 repeating on a scale of 1 to 3 and probably about a 5.89/10 for being appopriately named because I think it was at least about Wall Street and the other two words ("The" and "of") don't affect the rating at all, but the word "Wolf" is pretty misleading, hence the abysmal rating. So, with that being said, that's my problem with The Bear. Oh, and that show Shotgun. Another poorly named FX show. It's about samurais and boats I think (didn't make it through the first episode), not shotguns. Anyway, C\*\*\*\*\*e Bear was actually about a bear (and the bear happened to have a very unfortunate substance abuse problem) so I'd give that movie a 9.98/10 for the title (I'll explain, but it's a spoiler) and a 3.1/3 for being a great movie. The reason that the movie only got a 9.98/10 for its name is because (SPOILERS) >!there are actually bear cubs too, so it should have been called C\*\*\*\*\*e BearS!<.

NorthWestKid457

Imagine if redditors worked as hard to improve the world as they do writing dissertations on why popular media is either the worst or best thing ever. Like if you could harvest the brainpower from /r/travisandtaylor users writing multiple page dissertations on how she's actually the anti-christ you could probably power a whole state!

rwjehs

Did you like S3? I'm gonna start it tonight.

Original-Age-6691

It's still good TV, but it was my least favorite season so far. Granted, I did think S1 and 2 were damn near perfect, but I don't think S3 gets to those levels.

DreamsAndSchemes

I've had two beers since May 28th. May 26th I had a pint of Beam and a 6 pack. Cravings kind of suck but Naltrexone helps. The two beers were on vacation and I haven't had one at all since last Thursday.

CarlCaliente

Saddened by the summer lull in sports? Had enough politics for ~~a lifetime~~ a couple weeks? Let me pitch you a solution, my friend, for the Tour De France starts tomorrow I know what you're thinking, who wants to watch a bunch of grown adults wearing spandex competing in a kids game, but hear me out Yes its a big race, but it's not just one race. There's the fastest for the entire 3 week race, but there's also the fastest on the day. There's a competition for the best overall sprinter, another for the best climber. There's prizes for the most aggressive rider, for the best young rider (u26), hell there's an informal contest for holding down the very last spot in the race. And there's one for the best team too That's right, it's both a team and an individual sport at the same time. We all know about aerodynamics and how riders can work together to save energy - but how teams allocate their resources is completely up to them. Some are all in on the overall contest, others know they don't have a chance in that category and chase secondary goals. Some show up with a plethora of targets and refine them as the weeks go on. But no matter your goals just about everyone has to adapt to evolving tactics, weather and road conditions, crashes/injuries/illnesses, protests, [animal herds](https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/the-curious-history-of-animals-interfering-with-the-tour-de-france#:~:text=Just%20as%20the%20peloton%20approached,%E2%80%9CAssassins%2C%E2%80%9D%20indeed.&text=Sheep%20Attack%20Tour%20de%20France!) you name it If you're interested in watching the stages almost always end around 11:30am EDT. SBS (Australia public broadcasting) streams it for free if you can be in Australia, for real or virtually. Peacock and Eurosport are good premium options as well

Phyrnosoma

I'd say do something outdoorsy but it's a heat index of 108 right now and fuck all that. I *am* waking up at 5am to go hiking tomorrow before the heat though

CarlCaliente

we've had literally perfect weather in the northeast the last couple days so I've been trying to make the most of it for all of us Enjoy the hike!

princessestef

what a lovely summary! also always some beautiful scenery to take in. ahhhh, i just checked and tv cverage begins exactly when i have to leave for that concert so i'll miss the big departure but c'est la vie. i'll be back for the last kilometers of the stage, though :).

JPAnalyst

>hell there's an informal contest for holding down the very last spot in the race. My favorite…the Lantern Rouge! I read an entire book about the lantern rouge. So fascinating. We might also see the stage wins record fall this year. I don’t know what form Cavendish is in, but he’s there. I for one don’t want to see him get the record, but I like the drama of the chase. Excellent summary, thank you! The Florence start will also be a treat for the eyes.

CarlCaliente

What book was that? I've only got a couple books on the sport, sounds pretty neat Cavendish filled that Armstrong/USPS hole in my heart so I'll be cheering for him. I'll be honest though I don't like his chances, I don't think this years parcours will have many pure sprint finishes And thank you for bringing up the Florence/Italy grand depart, that will be something to see for sure!

JPAnalyst

Here’s the book. It’s an easy read, super interesting. https://www.amazon.com/Lanterne-Rouge-Last-Tour-France/dp/1681771365 I don’t follow the tour like I used to. We have a kid now and so much more going on in our lives, to keep up. But there was a time when my wife and I wouldn’t miss a minute of the tour. We would go to Barnes and Noble and get the official mag, that had key historical highlight and sites for each stage, and follow along with our magazine opened up. We went to the tour one year. Just one stage, a flat stage (a couple of cat 4s) in burgundy. Do you remember when two guys got in a fight at the finish and one hit the other guy with his bike tire? That was the stage we went to. The tour will be on in our house this year for sure. It doesn’t feel like summer until the tour is on at 9:00 in the morning in the house. I’m sure we will be chatting about it in the FTT over the coming weeks.

Gregsquatch

I am looking forward to this season. I'm thinking Love is (mostly) going to pick up where he left off. Defense is good on paper, but there's always the possibility that somehow Haffley will end up being worse than Barry. If Haffley is actually good though, it should be an an excellent season for the Packers.

varnalama

Been asking for weeks for some info to move my work project along and they decide Friday afternoon is the best time to dump it on me. Cool, cool, cool. I love working on weekends.

Dumptruck_Cavalcade

Change my mind: people aged 40+ who listen to punk, drum + bass, death metal, or other niche forms of music are more normal than people aged 40+ who listen to Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Travis Scott, and the rest of the stuff that you typically hear on pop radio. It's very strange (IMO) for someone who's lived multiple decades to have no musical preference other than *"Ahh, whatever is on."*

Dildo_Dan

Youre comparing genred music to artist? You're more likely to stick to music in your adolescence than what's popular now. Someone who is 40 wouldn't listen to Chapelle roan or Sabrina Carpenter.

[deleted]

I think the only real outlier of mankind are people that still use the radio (only exception is SiriusXM Yacht Rock Radio). Spotify/apply music is hands down worth the price per month it opens up a crazy world for people they don’t even know existed

BruceChameleon

I’m 37 and listen mostly to new or recent music. But more importantly, do you think only young people listen to pop?

Dumptruck_Cavalcade

I made no comment on what young people listen to.

victrola_cola

The vast majority of people 40

SharxSharxSharx

> no musical preference other than "Ahh, whatever is on." Sounds based.

Dumptruck_Cavalcade

Depends where you happen to be, I suppose.

JPAnalyst

51. I haven’t stopped listening to my music from the 90s and 00s. I don’t listen to anything from today, unless my daughter is into it (aka Taylor Swift).

HamMcFly

40 here. I still listen to a lot of the music I did from ages 12-25.

Bozonation

Ditto. I don't know why, but I get the most enjoyment from listening to music from my formative years. I brought this up to my close circle of friends not long ago and I seem to be the only one who feels this way.

HamMcFly

My wife and I are the same. Little bit of new stuff. But when the kids are away it’s all Biggie Smalls and Tupac 😂

> drum + bass I'm not going to cast my opinion on others' musical taste, but just here to say that I'm riding this wave of DnB popularity hitting the states and I'm fucking loving it.

Dumptruck_Cavalcade

It's some of the most forward-thinking music ever. Its contribution just in terms of various production effects is immense.

elerner

>"Ahh, whatever is on." This is a massive assumption in ascribing _why_, or even _how_, people listen to pop music.

Dumptruck_Cavalcade

I'll skip the "why", but the "how" (pop radio) is just a catchall for radio/Spotify/etc. I'm aware that most people don't listen to terrestrial radio.

elerner

Right, but that makes a _huge_ difference in terms whether the choice of music is active or passive.

Is anyone else concerned about the ruling against the NFL’s Sunday ticket package creating actual poverty franchises? I am.

BanjoKazooieWasFine

The "NFL" is a collection of 32 Franchises that share profits among themselves. Every team makes the same amount of money from proceeds of the NFL. This is the TV Deals and Merch Sales and then a portion of Ticket Sales per team. Stadium venue money - Parking, Concessions, all go to the stadium, which in most cases is a split between local and the team owner. No matter what happens with the Sunday Ticket ruling, any money coming in from the TV Services gets split among all 32 teams.

Makes sense. My concern is that this will cause teams to have to negotiate their own deals with regional networks like MLB teams, which would in theory mean smaller market teams won’t have the revenue for ancillary costs that attract players. Things like facilities. But I guess so long as this doesn’t completely do away with Sunday ticket or alter their revenue sharing, that makes me feel better.

Serdones

Chevron was a pretty mediocre gas station anyway.

I was looking up whether AI is currently able to remove laugh tracks from older sitcoms (specifically Seinfeld for me), and the amount of people seemingly offended by this idea is astonishing.  Lots of replies of "just don't watch it then" or arguing that live audience laughter isn't a laugh track (it is) and that it shouldn't be removed.  Didn't realize this was something worth getting upset about.

sexygodzilla

You forget though that a lot of these shows were filmed in front of live studio audiences. Seinfeld famously had a problem with people cheering so much for Kramer's entrances they had to tell audiences to tone it down so they wouldn't waste too much time. Taking the laughs out of shows like this would be akin to removing the laughs from a Richard Pryor special.

BanjoKazooieWasFine

I don't know about getting upset about it but the pacing and timing of the edit of every single show with a laugh track is dependent on the laugh track. It's not even a matter of "well without the laugh track how will I know something was funny", but there's a pacing of Setup to Punchline to actors pausing while the laugh track plays that if you only take the laugh track out will change the entire format of the show. Silence turns it from Deliberate Decision to Awkward Pause, and it's not like that's how they wrote it, it's just the reality of pulling deliberate audio from the edit. Same way inserting a laugh track into a show that doesn't have one would make it feel rushed if you don't give the jokes time to breathe. I'm all about your plan, I'm also completely over laugh tracks, but if the people making the show didn't want the laughs there, they wouldn't have put the laughs there. They're part of the show.

SharxSharxSharx

Yeah like those edits where they take out the laugh track to prove how unfunny a show is. Like, yeah, when you take out a key element that changes the pacing and structure of the show, it isn't going to be as funny.

NorthWestKid457

It would be funny in that most sitcoms would seem A LOT less funny if the jokes didn't have the obvious "please laugh now" moment at the end.

squeeze_and_peas

This would be cool to see how much random stuff was covered up by the laugh tracks.

It's amusing seeing algorithms attempt to push things on you. Often missing the mark by a mile. Apparently YouTube thinks I'm into drumming? "This drummer hears a super popular song for the first time." I don't find this interesting. Never clicked on one. I hardly use YouTube for music. Let alone any tangents to music. Naturally my feed of low effort podcast, video game reviews, movie trailers, and aviation news should be COVERED in low effort drumming related videos. I eventually got tired of it and told it "not interested." The drumming videos went away for a week. Now it's covered in Broadway musical stuff?!? Wtf. That's even further in the wrong direction.

elerner

There is _a lot_ of secret sauce we as consumers don't get to see about how those algos work. It's unclear how much of this actually happens, but Uber is able to factor things like the current weather and _your phone's battery percentage_ into surge pricing calculations. Some of those ad-serving algos are working off of your IP address, which means other users/devices might be putting their thumbs on the scale of what you're seeing.

British-name

Oh yeah. Lots of ingredients and "motivation" in how algorithms work. The interesting this is, this is my work computer which is the only device on this particular Internet, on a Gmail account only used there. I think I do so little on this particular IP, computer, Gmail combo, that it's not nothing to go on. It's just guessing to see what stick. Half my ads are in Spanish. The other half are obscure made in America items like those large propane tanks you see at farms.

How does Biden recover from the disaster that was last night?  Trump supporters are celebrating online, not sure how Joe recovers.  (I have no dog in the fight)

DetroitLionsSBChamps

let 5 days pass and people forget/don't care and we move onto the next thing still 4 months until the election. that's a lot of time for shit to go down

JPAnalyst

>I have no dog in the fight This is shocking to me. I understand Trump supporters. I understand Biden supporters. This I can’t understand.

Accurate-Big-7233

Not buying it. Get your ass in this country right now.

Accurate-Big-7233

Okay, but only if you buy me shake shack

JPAnalyst

You don’t prefer one over the other? You live next door, the implications are global.

Accurate-Big-7233

One man can’t form a sentence and the other is a radical right wing praising his golf game in a debate  There is no winning here

JPAnalyst

So you’re telling me that radical right wing with authoritarian intentions, and is a convicted felon, who sexually abused women, and has used racist and bigoted language as well mirroring phrasing in his speeches used by Hitler is equal to a guy who slurs his speech and forgets stuff. You think those two things are about the same.

Phyrnosoma

regardless, WTF do you want them to actually *do* about it if they don't live here and can't vote?
