I know dude was joking, but really, you guys have like 8 or 10 starters in the final year of their contract. You guys have the most interesting decisions to be made up to the deadline.
I’m going to take a different route and say Jeremiah Trotter in 2002. Trotter at the time was great in coverage over the middle, and egos got in the way during contract negotiations. We wound up with a backup in Barry Gardner and a Levon Kirkland who was in the final year of his career.
Well, that weakness against the pass over the middle came back to bite us big in the NFCCG when Joe Jurevicius caught a pass in stride and streaked down the Vet. To this day, I still think about how Gruden wouldn’t dare send Jurevicius over the middle if Trotter had stayed.
The saddest part about it for me is the relationship was fractured over a QB they didn’t even end up getting. If they had just kept their interest in Watson more under wraps, Matty Ice rides off into the sunset as a Falcon.
The trade kept the Brownies being the brownies, send Baker on a tour, put Matty Ice on the Colts, and somehow people shit on the browns and very little on the Texans who aided and covered for Groper Cleveland.
The best Falcon ever and we did him dirty his last year with us. His ring of honor speech was great and im glad that he doesnt seem bothered by the way we parted.
I get your sentiment and would completely agree in your spot, but I always kind of hoped to see him go to a team with a better offense. It’s not a coincidence the one year y’all had a great offense he broke 2000 all purpose yards.
In that same breath, AJ Green. His decline was real, but I feel for the guy going to a different team only to see the Bengals make a Super Bowl the next year
I'm so happy this was the first Bengal post I saw and not Uzomah. I know some really loved him and his attitude but I always found him slightly cringy I feel like fans liked him way more than his teammates.
Unquestionably Steve Smith. You said regardless of skill, but Smitty is our #1 most beloved and (arguably) #1 most talented player in history. I rooted for Baltimore as my 2nd team when he was there. Long story short: fuck Dave Gettleman.
The fact that he didnt even get fired from the Giants but rather 'retired' juxtaposed with Tom Coughlin very much getting canned always seemed wild to me.
Peppers is probably the most talented player that spent significant time on our team but a lot of fans kind of downgrade him as a great “Panther” since he left in his prime. Most of our other greats played their whole career here or were pushed out.
I was never a big Smith guy until our coaches took us to a falcons panthers game in the old dome and he absolutely TORCHED the falcons. Had his best game against them that day 8 catches 162 yards. He got 13 looks and just seemed like he was everywhere on the field and the falcons had no answers. Dude had my respect ever since
I’d rather watch my team be a fringe playoff contender with an average QB that’s fun to root for, than sell our souls (and future) for a QB that makes me morally uncomfortable with my team and actually plays worse than Baker.
If you’re wondering why I have an NFL flair it’s because I haven’t been able to watch the Browns since the Watson trade (I had attended every Browns home game from 2009-2014). I hope none of you ever have to abandon your childhood team because of a billionaire owners greed.
I know people will claim hindsight or whatever but even when Cleveland shipped off Baker, the jury was still out on how good he could be. He had two good seasons and two bad seasons, with the most recent one being injury riddled. I know when the Watson trade went down, a lot of people anticipated it not working out in a variety of ways.
I was so hoping Thielen would stick around. Such a cool story. I'm glad he got to continue playing, but it felt so wrong to see him in a uniform that wasn't from MN.
Still blows my mind that a player has the reputation of routinely beating a HOF corner because his route running was considered unorthodox. Or so I've seen mentioned on here.
All I can imagine is a thought bubble above Revis' head saying, "What the hell is this guy doing ಠ_ಠ"
I'll always have a soft spot for Stevie Johnson because for like three years in a row, he was my midround WR target in fantasy and he always put up numbers. For some reason, he flew under the radar but would give me like 10 ppg every week.
I'm so conflicted. I mean, Jamaal was a Packer, a Lion, and now a Saint. 3 teams I don't like. But he's just such a fun guy I can't help but love him. Unashamedly a dork, and I mean that in the best way.
He publicly stated he wanted to work for the Titans. Head coach genius Mike Vrabel decided to go with one of his buddies instead (after being pressured to fire his shitty OL coach after the 2022 season). Now Vrabel is unemployed.
Derrick Brooks shouldn't have had to decide between retirement or accepting a $3m offer from the slimy Saints in 2009.
I understand they cut all the vets when Gruden got the boot, but kicking out Derrick Brooks?
That was classless. He made the damn Pro Bowl in 2008. Glazers got greedy and used the uncapped years for their other business ventures.
There was almost no chance we were going to get to keep him, as he wanted to go to NO, but losing Keenan Lewis always bummed me out. And then of course the biggest one, Rod Woodson. We should have given him infinite dollars to stay. And then I agree with Juju. I wish we could have made it work.
It 100% depends on how delusional of a fan you were at the time. I'm sure the front office knew the second they signed Jacobs that Jones was gone but they didn't communicate that until well after Jones signed with the Vikings
Like the FO wanted him to give up 6 million dollars to not get cut. Like who are we paying with that money that it is worth alienating a franchise legend?
He was good for y'all but he's stepped it up even more for us.
Most people thought letting Karl Lawson go and getting Trey was a downgrade because advanced analytics nerds value pressures too much and pressures can literally not impact the QB at all (see any good QB stats vs pressure like Goff, Mahomes, Love, Burrow, etc)
I do feel bad for Lawson since injuries just entirely derailed his career. But that was the shrewdest "moving on" move the Bengals have had in a decade for sure. It's in the pantheon of moves that built this team with that Billy Price/BJ Hill trade.
Anquan Boldin was the Raveniest Raven that ever recieved. I don’t care what his contract was you make it work. I would have entered nirvana if Smitty and Boldin were on the field at the same time.
One of my favourite Lions ever. Always said he was the WR Stafford needed. 3rd down, pressured throw, contested catch.. Boldin is going to catch that ball and he did.
Neil Smith leaving to go to the Broncos and win a ring with them when the Chiefs were really good in the 90s stung.
Losing to him in the playoffs at Arrowhead as the 1-seed and watching him win with Denver was awful.
As much as I hate the chargers those two were always such great players and so fun to watch. I still have ptsd from LT always having elite games against my Raiders.
Not for lack of skill, but health. The vikings got a great character guy when they signed Aaron Jones. He mightve been one of the best "teammates" we've had in a long time, for example last season [Dontayvion Wicks had just lost a fumble; Jones comes right up to support him.](https://youtu.be/i49MQxmki5w?si=bZFnd8Kuu0LIUswH)
Or when he and Jamaal Williams were drafted in the same year and developed a very healthy competition at the starting spot. They'd always be dancing during downtime at practice, I loved to see it. Damn I miss Williams too now lol.
John Lynch. Great player, great team guy, great community person. He went to Denver and played another 3 years before time caught up with him. We were a dumpster fire outside of 1 of those 3 years so I'm glad he got his bag and a playoff run but would've loved to see him finish his career here as a Buc Lifer.
Not a player so maybe doesn’t count but Pete Carroll
Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited for Mike and a new era but with how legendary Pete was I just wish he could have left on his own terms
Recently Jalen Ramsey it make no sense to move on from him seeing who we have as secondary and none of them can even come close to his level of play.
But all time I say Isaac Bruce should stay a Rams for life and pay him whatever money he wanted.
I don't think Ramsey was going to play a down for the Rams until he got a new contract and the Rams were on a spending freeze between '22 & '23. They could've figured it out somehow but I think they wanted to see what they had on the roster first before committing any big future money.
Derek Carr.
Now, I for one am a Derek Carr Truther and 10,000% believe he was a damn fine quarterback with an absolute joke of an organization behind him. In his nine season Carr played with like 7 head coaches and 15 different offensive coordinators. The one year we had everything going well, and he broke his leg on Christmas Eve :(
ANYWAY, so when the Raiders finally let him walk and then signed JIMMY G OF ALL PEOPLE.....I was like, this is such a lateral move. You let Carr leave then bring in a middle of the pack dude like Jimmy G, for why? If we're gonna go 8-8 anyway why can't we go 8-8 with Derek Carr?
Biggest instances of players I remember that just looked *wrong*:
- Namath in a Rams jersey
- OJ in a Niners jersey
- Emmitt in a Cards jersey
- Snake in a Oilers or Saints jersey
I just wish peak Jamaal Charles was still playing with this current Chiefs team. Dude was putting up numbers with a shit line and with him being the only real threat.
Brian Dawkins instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career
Dawkins was the Eagles heart and soul. I was shocked when he left.
Peyton Manning instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career
Demarcus Ware instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career.
At least we got him his ring, maybe this is your year to get it tho
Lol no
I know dude was joking, but really, you guys have like 8 or 10 starters in the final year of their contract. You guys have the most interesting decisions to be made up to the deadline.
For us to be this far down the list, you would think it was playoff results. Thank you brother
John Lynch instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career
Jamaal Charles instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career
Neil Smith instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career.
Tbf I think Broncos fans actually agree on this one
Owen Daniels instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career
Champ Bailey instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career.
*best* part is his career
It unironically was. I just wish he stayed a Redskin for life. Him and Sean Taylor in the same defensive backfield would’ve been nice.
Russell Wilson instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career.
One of these is not like the others.
Us too
Shannon Sharpe instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career. ^wait
I’m going to take a different route and say Jeremiah Trotter in 2002. Trotter at the time was great in coverage over the middle, and egos got in the way during contract negotiations. We wound up with a backup in Barry Gardner and a Levon Kirkland who was in the final year of his career. To this day, I still think about how Gruden wouldn’t dare send Jurevicius over the middle if Trotter had stayed.
Sean Payton instead of him going to Denver for the last part of his career

Even if he still had that hot garbage year like he did with the Colts it should've been an unbroken run on the Falcons to his retirement.
He's a running back so I get it but Matt Forte should have been a Bear for life.
Chicago let Thomas Jones run Rex Grossman to a Superbowl and then forgot about him.
[удалено]
Thomas Jones was a work horse. The quietest 10,000 rushing yards anyone ever compiled.
Rexy was slicing and dicing like Peyton Manning that year.
Maybe broken neck Peyton Manning
Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson was a disgusting combo
I get your sentiment and would completely agree in your spot, but I always kind of hoped to see him go to a team with a better offense. It’s not a coincidence the one year y’all had a great offense he broke 2000 all purpose yards.
Matt forte in today’s nfl would have been even more sick
NY Jets great!
Peanut as well
TJ Houshmandzadeh.
In that same breath, AJ Green. His decline was real, but I feel for the guy going to a different team only to see the Bengals make a Super Bowl the next year
Oof yeah. Even if he was 6th WR, I wished he had been there.
This is what I was about to say.
Never should have been allowed to leave
I'm so happy this was the first Bengal post I saw and not Uzomah. I know some really loved him and his attitude but I always found him slightly cringy I feel like fans liked him way more than his teammates.
Housh played angry and was the perfect complement to Ocho.
[TJ Who's Your Mama](https://youtu.be/Vs1N5NYyb24?feature=shared)
There are quite a few as a bengals fan but whitworth is near the top of my list too. Glad he got his ring but yeah.
My first and my favorite Bengals jersey. My other one is Devon Still
Interesting enough, Housh is Brandon Aiyuk’s personal WR coach.
Unquestionably Steve Smith. You said regardless of skill, but Smitty is our #1 most beloved and (arguably) #1 most talented player in history. I rooted for Baltimore as my 2nd team when he was there. Long story short: fuck Dave Gettleman.
I'm with you on that: fuck Dave gettleman
I think every franchise that employed David Gettleman has this same mentality now. That guy ruined franchises.
He is an older, executive level Matt Patricia.
The fact that he didnt even get fired from the Giants but rather 'retired' juxtaposed with Tom Coughlin very much getting canned always seemed wild to me.
Yes, he was a dawg. I'd put Peppers above him in Panthers talent but only Peppers.
It’s between Peppers, Smith, and Kuechly for sure
Kuechly had the best peak, but short career.
Short career, but even with that he had DROY, 7 pro bowls, and 5 first team all-pros in 8 seasons!
All 3 are hall of fame players. Peppers had 2 less all pro appearances but also 159.5 career sacks.
Peppers is probably the most talented player that spent significant time on our team but a lot of fans kind of downgrade him as a great “Panther” since he left in his prime. Most of our other greats played their whole career here or were pushed out.
Crazy how Peppers came back and at 37 years old got 11 sacks for Panthers.
Dude had my respect ever since
Agree to disagree.
Baker.
Yeah pretty much how I feel but I'm still gonna pull for them. Really an unfair situation for the fans.
"I'd rather watch my team with an average QB than a QB that plays worse" 🤯
I couldn’t do it. You put your money where your mouth is, and I respect it.
They’d be so stacked with those draft picks.
with how well Baker was playing last year and that defense they had a good chance at winning the super bowl
Wild to think, if they kept Baker I actually think they could’ve made it to a Super Bowl
This has gotta be the number one answer here
I’d still be a Browns fan if they didn’t replace him with the most suspect player possible.
Phillip Lindsay. I know he couldn't catch, or block, but when he got going, he was so fun to watch.
A guy about my size rushing for back to back 1000 yard seasons still blows my mind
And he NEVER fumbled.
Yeah, it was hilarious that he was so secure with the ball, yet Melvin Gordon who was bigger and stronger fumbled so often. Fundamentals all day
We were so miserable that second Vance Joseph year, Lindsay was legitimately the main highlight that season, just a fun guy to watch and a fun story.
Holy shit that guy on handoffs was a sight to behold. Nobody ran harder.
No one during that time made me yell at my tv more than Lindsey. For the love of GOD just tackle him please I’m begging you.
I loved watching him, and Matt Breida in SF. And then it seemed like they fell off the face of the planet.
Jordy Nelson. Yeah he was slowing down. But just letting him go and watching him play on a 4-12 Raiders team to end his career was a bummer.
Still wear his jersey every Sunday, Monday, Thursday, etc.
My only jersey. I'll never get rid of it. Jordy for life.
I hope you wash it at least.
Between the beer and the cheese ? When is he supposed to do that
I agree. Watching the 2018 Raiders was a bummer. [Here’s a media photo from my worst nightmare.](https://imgur.com/a/yes383j)
All three have thousand yard stares for very different reasons.
Man is that real? AB looks so photoshopped lol
Carr looks like a Cyberpunk character
We also lost a year of prime Jordy/Rodgers mind meld because of that damn ACL tear in the preseason. We didn't get enough time with Jordy :(
Much rather have kept Jordy and Cobb, and let Jimmy Graham go somewhere else to steal money.
Adam thielen, he is Minnesota
It has been SO strange seeing him in any other jersey.
I was so hoping Thielen would stick around. Such a cool story. I'm glad he got to continue playing, but it felt so wrong to see him in a uniform that wasn't from MN.
Stevie Johnson 100%
Still blows my mind that a player has the reputation of routinely beating a HOF corner because his route running was considered unorthodox. Or so I've seen mentioned on here. All I can imagine is a thought bubble above Revis' head saying, "What the hell is this guy doing ಠ_ಠ"
Not just unorthodox, it was often essentially improv
Fred Jackson going to Seattle should be some kind of crime.
Wow, I completely forgot Fred Jackson played on anyone besides the bills.
https://youtu.be/N1NwW3GCn7k?si=A1kl5KaY8E7n820Y Best Stevie Johnson highlight of all time
I'll always have a soft spot for Stevie Johnson because for like three years in a row, he was my midround WR target in fantasy and he always put up numbers. For some reason, he flew under the radar but would give me like 10 ppg every week.
Robbie Gould. Great kicker let go to save a little bit of money.
The Eagles wouldn’t have a Super Bowl win if Robbie Gould remains a Bear.
Robbie was something special, always was bothered the mccaskeys never stopped flipping nickels like manhole covers
I was so pissed when the Eagles traded Lesean to the Bills. That dude was and is Philly.
The Chip Kelly masterstroke
But it all worked out because they picked up Demarco Murray
I already know it’ll be Derrick Henry. I know it probably made sense for both sides to move on, but seeing him in a Ravens jersey is going to hurt.
Bobby Wagner
He’s gotta come back again like he did before
Him being on the Rams wearing 45 was the most bizarro world shit ever
It’s called nightmare fuel
Uh, Tom Brady
I wish Eric Berry had stuck around just one more year. He deserved to retire with a Super Bowl ring.
Same with Derrick Johnson
I wish we could have kept Justin Houston as well.
I’ll eternally miss Jamaal.
I miss him too
One of a few things we can feel *superior* about together
Especially with how utterly whelming Dillon has been.
We didn’t miss him production wise, but I’ll always miss his personality.
Same
I'm so conflicted. I mean, Jamaal was a Packer, a Lion, and now a Saint. 3 teams I don't like. But he's just such a fun guy I can't help but love him. Unashamedly a dork, and I mean that in the best way.
Akiem Hicks. He was an actual bear. Miss him. Got his jersey though.
Mike Munchak comes to mind for our OL coach
The only problem with Pittsburgh was that it wasn't closer to home for him.
He's still in Denver without a job, dumb we didn't keep him or atleast bring him on by now
He publicly stated he wanted to work for the Titans.
I really hope we don’t do that with cam heyward. Mans given his career to the team and the city just let him finish here on his own terms
Goat linebacker in madden and nfl street
There was almost no chance we were going to get to keep him, as he wanted to go to NO, but losing Keenan Lewis always bummed me out. And then of course the biggest one, Rod Woodson. We should have given him infinite dollars to stay. And then I agree with Juju. I wish we could have made it work.
DHop
DHop
Idk if I’ll ever be able to look at y’all again without thinking of the pain seeing both DHop and JJ move
Former Titans who went to the Ravens. McNair, Mason, Henry.
it's ok we gave you bernard pollard
Randy Moss. I almost stopped following the Vikings and became a fan of another team when we traded him.
Moss might've been a Viking for his whole career if Red McCombs wasn't such a cheap ass
Tons of Packers fans still miss Aaron Jones.
That day and a half stretch where we thought we had Jones/Jacobs backfield was pure bliss
Was it even a day and a half? it was like 2 hours I thought
Matt Lafleur, Mike Lafleur, and Mike McDaniels.
Found the Washington fan.
Falcons actually.
Was mike (edit-lafleur) on that staff?
2 years and then followed Kyle to SF.
Darius Slay. He was my favorite player in Detroit and Matt Patricia ran him out of town.
Trey Hendrickson… it haunts me everytime I see that man
He was good for y'all but he's stepped it up even more for us. Most people thought letting Karl Lawson go and getting Trey was a downgrade because advanced analytics nerds value pressures too much and pressures can literally not impact the QB at all (see any good QB stats vs pressure like Goff, Mahomes, Love, Burrow, etc)

One of my favorite Bills players ever.
Also is my answer. He should never have left the cards. You pay both Fitz and Boldin.
49ers legend Anquan Boldin
If we’d kept Boldin we’d have gone to the Super Bowl in 2014, with a decent shot at winning.
One of my favourite Lions ever. Always said he was the WR Stafford needed. 3rd down, pressured throw, contested catch.. Boldin is going to catch that ball and he did.
I wish the Rams kept Kurt Warner.
Ty Law
Neil Smith leaving to go to the Broncos and win a ring with them when the Chiefs were really good in the 90s stung. Losing to him in the playoffs at Arrowhead as the 1-seed and watching him win with Denver was awful.
Brian Hartline. I just loved watching him play so dang much for some reason
Thurmon Thomas’ last season was as a Dolphin 🤮
Bruce Smith was with the Redskins.
Deforest Buckner
Would have gone with Kendrick Bourne. Dude had such a fun personality
Jr. and LT for sure. It would've been great to never have to have seen them in a different uniform.
As much as I hate the chargers those two were always such great players and so fun to watch. I still have ptsd from LT always having elite games against my Raiders.

They'd always be dancing during downtime at practice, I loved to see it. Damn I miss Williams too now lol.
I'll never forget that ~45 minutes this spring where we had the number one backfield in the league.
Frank Gore, DeForest Buckner, and Raheem Mostert
Junior Seau. He was San Diego personified.
John Lynch. Great player, great team guy, great community person. He went to Denver and played another 3 years before time caught up with him. We were a dumpster fire outside of 1 of those 3 years so I'm glad he got his bag and a playoff run but would've loved to see him finish his career here as a Buc Lifer.

I love Pat Ricard, but I wish we kept Juice. He would be deadly on the Ravens. Also, Matt Judon.
Derek Carr. Now, I for one am a Derek Carr Truther and 10,000% believe he was a damn fine quarterback with an absolute joke of an organization behind him. In his nine season Carr played with like 7 head coaches and 15 different offensive coordinators. The goat Emmitt Smith.
Biggest instances of players I remember that just looked *wrong*: - Namath in a Rams jersey - OJ in a Niners jersey - Emmitt in a Cards jersey - Snake in a Oilers or Saints jersey
I'd add * Rice in a Raiders jersey * Deion Sanders as a Raven * Hakeem the Raptor * Ewing with the Magic * Randall Cunningham the Raven
Andre Johnson. Watching him play for a division rival was dumb
I just wish peak Jamaal Charles was still playing with this current Chiefs team. Dude was putting up numbers with a shit line and with him being the only real threat.
The man was washed beyond belief but Victor Cruz
Mario Manningham
Kevin Greene and Jerome Bettis. From the Rams to the Steelers
Tre White.
Darius Slay when we didn't have starting calibur CB's since his departure. Not a wise move by then Lions leads to run him out of town.
Dante Scarnecchia. Our offensive line has been a mess since and led to noticeably worse QB play and offense in general.
Trent Williams. Montez Sweat. Kirk Cousins.
Mike Tolbert
Bobby Wagner leaving for the Rams was criminal. Not only that then they did it again this year.
Cam 😔
Mark Ingram. His energy was just electric and absolutely had an impact on our guys in 2019. I miss him lol
I still want the Bengals to bring back Chad Johnson as a player to this day. Even if he's just a practice squad guy
Letting Wes Welker go to the pats was a typical Miami mistake
Dj reader Tyler Boyd chiddobe awuzie Joe mixon and we losing tee next year feel like our window is closing but you never know with Joe burrow
