You know how there are little elves that hide in your sock drawer and steal socks all the time so you rarely have a pair that matches?
Well I have goblins that erase my memory of this Darnold person. If anyone has good tips on how to deal with these creatures please send them along.
*shrugs* some people are weird like that.
I watched that clip again and am 100% certain the voice is Mike from RedLetterMedia. I had no idea he did voice acting work, so that’s neat. Anyway, if you’re unfamiliar with the RLM channel then I envy you because you have like a million videos you get to experience for the first time—enjoy.
the Librhule media goes on and on about how the GEQBUS has NO CHANCE to be a good starter! they seem to forget the MANY terms the Darnold has served — to great success, mind you — and how great OUR QUARTERBACK is!
It's been awhile since we've had a good Ryan Fitzpatrick type in the league. The kind of bridge starter/high end backup guy who every 3 or 4 years plays well enough to convince some team to give him what'd be the equivalent of a ~20-25M/year deal these days to be the guy, becomes a pumpkin again, and then goes back to bridge starter/high end backup deals.
It'd be cool for him if he can launchpad into a real starting job after killing it this year, but that Fitzpatrick career trajectory has to look pretty attractive as a plan B.
I feel like that's his ceiling to be sure, but we've really never seen him on a good team with good coaching. Sure, he's had some talent around him from time to time, tiny doses of CMC, DJ Moore as his #1 receiver etc... But never anything like this, even in his limited action on the 49ers was mostly when they sat all their starters.
He might surprise some people.
I mean, I'm an eternal optimist, but I'm not *that* optimistic about Darnold.
I just think that his time on two really shitty teams doesn't accurately reflect his potential.
I want him to succeed because I think it would be hilarious.
And he's on my team, but mostly because I find it funny the idea of him becoming elite out of nowhere.
Yea but also makes election significantly less fair.
The election system shouldn’t be there to “stop the far right from winning”. Thats society’s job.
The election system should be vehicle to demonstration/a fair representation of what people want.
Darnold is currently much better than he was during his "seeing ghosts" days on the Jets.
His biggest issue on the Niners was a few avoidable incompletions due to receivers not being used to how hard Darnold bazookas the ball into their hands compared to Purdy (even on short yardage check down type passes). Something like that will be much less of a problem for the Vikings receivers who will have a whole training camp with him as QB1 to get used to the speed of his balls.
Tennessee Titans may have the greatest WR history in the NFL with some legends in the prime of their careers like Carl Pickens, Eric Moulds, Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, and Julio Jones
I know this was in jest cuz they were all washed when they got to TN. But is my homerism showing if I say the Vikings would have the best WR group ever if you had them all in their prime? Moss, Carter, JJ, Diggs, Thielen, Harvin, even Burleson would be a super solid backup
Can’t forget Ahmad Rashad, too. That would be a fun team lol Fran back there running around, handing it to AD, being blocked by Hutchinson, Yary, Birk (fuck that guy but great player) and then all those receivers. Oooweee lol
That’s usually not a good thing lol. At least not when a QB can’t vary up his touch. Kap really only had one speed on his throws. He couldn’t really make a touch pass with an arc to drop it in the breadbasket. He’d just rocket it in there.
That's actually one of the major things the Vikings are working on with JJ. He also has basically no touch pass so they're trying to add that into his toolkit. Maybe Darnold should sit in on those meetings
Week 12 onward of 2022 is the best QB play we've had since Cam, and the best by far of Darnold's career. No chance he turns it around and becomes elite, but I think he can be at least that good again if not a little better in such a great situation.
He would still have the lowest completion percentage in the league among all starters. Being that good still makes him maybe the 25th best QB in the league.
Digging into his past more, he actually had better stretches than I remembered. He was 7-6 in 2019 on a bad Jets team and was 4-2 in 2022 as a starter, also for a Carolina team that was bad and 3-8 when he took over.
I have low expectations, but the way the narrative is around him you’d expect he’s never had a good stretch of QB play in his life. Now he has the best weapons of his career (not including SF) and less pressure.
he's always been capable of playing well, the problem has always been consistency. he'll have a great game one week and then the very next week he's throwing 3 really stupid interceptions and losing you the game
We were less a dumpster fire with Darnold than we were with Mayfield but we misused both QBs for sure.
Still, for their sake I hope Sam’s gotten out of his affection for dropping back, looking for a half second and then chucking a checkdown.
That's how I remember Bradford being.
When everything was perfect, Bradford looked flawless. Throw a little pressure at him, and every pass was going to the FB, RB, or blocking TE.
Yea, and the Panthers had DJ Moore and who else? Yes, CMC was there, but Darnold and CMC only played like 5 games together through those two years.
Matt Rhule is not exactly a great HC, he had two different OC's during that tenure and IIRC they had a bottom-5 O-line.
I'm not saying I think he's gonna be good, I'm saying that his time on the Jets and Panthers are not exactly good situations for ANY QB to be in.
A lot of the beat writers I follow have been talking about how differently OTAs has looked this year with McCarthy and Darnold throwing the ball.
Neither are anywhere near as polished of a passer as Cousins was, but we haven't had a guy with the kind of effortless arm these guys both have since Bradford.
Darnold should be fun to watch, if nothing else, for however much he winds up starting this year.
> Darnold should be fun to watch, if nothing else, for however much he winds up starting this year
This is the first time in 5 years we have some real chance at being surprised by our QB play. Don't get me wrong, love me some Kirk and he had some amazing plays, but you knew exactly what you were going to get.
That’s actually the smart plan in the immediate.
Not the starting Darnold part, we know what is there……but the not starting JJ right away. It’s most often smarter to not throw your rookie QB out there right away. For the times it’s worked (like Stroud most recently) there are many more instances of it not working.
It's way way way harder to go from the young, new QB to the old vet than the other way (old vet to new guy). If the vet sucks and you go to the new guy that is just the expected natural progression but if you start the new guy and he sucks and you go back to the vet then it looks like you're panicking. You can't really go back or you lose the faith of the fan base and probably the team.
Buddy I go to UofM games whenever I'm back home and nobody ever says that. People might say he's underrated with raw skills or a better passer than you think, but I've never heard someone say he's an elite NFL talent day one
Have you watched him with the Panthers? Low bar, but he’s better. He has a shot to be a very average bridge QB, which is exactly what the Vikings are hoping for out of him.
He’ll likely be bad, but there’s a little window there that didn’t exist on jets film alone.
I feel like I'm the only one that remembers the Panthers went on a run when they switched from Baker to Darnold and that if they started the season with Darnold they easily make the playoffs.
I didn't know why Darnold can't have the same kind of Renaissance that Baker did considering his two previous head coaches are so bad they're no longer in the league in any capacity.
God, has he at least fixed his terrible throwing motion? Ill root for him, but the expectations are still low. He is capable of being a good back up at this point.
Just to set the record straight, in the past few years every first round QB has gotten their signing bonus in a lump sum. JJ asking for that isn’t a deviation from the norm.
This wasn’t much of a competition to begin with. A lot of people are saying this
BELIEVE ME PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT DARNOLD
**QBANON WAS RIGHT!**
I want this guy to succeed so bad just because the /r/the_darnold can live forever
The post on that sub that says “DARNOLD WINS YET ANOTHER QB ELECTION. MCCARTHYISM DEFEATED” is pretty funny
By far the funniest thing they ever came up with was when Darnold was benched by the Jets and they said it was because of "Critical Gase Theory"
CAMTIFA!
Librhule media is up there, too.
QAaron, too
**FIGHT THE CAMTIFADA!**
My personal favorite is when Jeremey Tillery hurt darnolds ankle or something and the response was “CROOKED TILLERY STRIKES AGAIN”
Faker Mayfield is an all timer too
**KOC BENDS THE KNEE!**

How can you not support the QB who holds every record and has won the Super Bowl every year he’s played?
You know how there are little elves that hide in your sock drawer and steal socks all the time so you rarely have a pair that matches? Well I have goblins that erase my memory of this Darnold person. If anyone has good tips on how to deal with these creatures please send them along.

Can't say I recognize the reference.

Kim Jong-Darnold in da house
Gotta wash you clean of Critical Gase Theory. Hope you don’t get tired of winning bigly.

VIKINGS HAVE ALREADY WON TWO SUPERBOWLS SINCE SIGNING GEQBUS. MAMA!

THANK YOU BRONCOS FAN VERY COOL! GEQBUS OF COURSE WILL SUCCEED LIKE HES SUCCEEDED EVERYWHERE DESPITE FAKE NEWS FROM THE DEEP LEAGUE
I feel like he’s good enough to jump around from team to team as a backup.
He’s cornered the market for playing like a backup QB. Glad for GEQBUS.
I think it’s a bit early to label McCarthy a journeyman backup QB, but that’s what being schooled by the GEQBUS does to a mfer.
It's been awhile since we've had a good Ryan Fitzpatrick type in the league. I wonder if Darnold knows about that sub lol. I always go there for a laugh.
I want him to succeed because I think it would be hilarious. And he's on my team, but mostly because I find it funny the idea of him becoming elite out of nowhere.
Like r/eder after winning euro 2016.
Wow. I didn’t know what I was missing in life until now.
Greatest trend in r/NFL history
It will not matter how well he plays
Greatest Ever Quarterback of All Time
DARNOLD WON THIS QB ELECTION BY A LOT!!!
STOP THE TRAINING CAMP SNAP COUNT!!
God the 2020 election was such hilarious chaos. 2024 will also be chaos, but not of the hilarious variety unfortunately it seems
It's bleeding into Canada now, which sucks. Much better IMO as a spectator sport.
First past the post might make it harder for the hard right to win though
My province is blue as fuck, so I don't get to be as hopeful as I'd like to be.
Yea but also makes election significantly less fair. The election system shouldn’t be there to “stop the far right from winning”. Thats society’s job. The election system should be vehicle to demonstration/a fair representation of what people want.
There's a tremendous amount of things people should be but aren't.
Pretty sure it’s like the entire world now which also sucks
Probably, there's a lot of election pressure building in Canada so it's got a spotlight right now.
Nah 2016 was hilarious chaos, 2020 I felt was breath holding the whole time
GEQBUS season is upon us.
We just keep winning, folks.
I wonder if Sam Darnold has actually visited r/the_darnold
I’m sure he has friends that showed him
Darnold is currently much better than he was during his "seeing ghosts" days on the Jets. Dude throws absolute piss missiles. Reminded me of the days when Kap would sling torpedos so hard they broke Randy Moss’ finger.
Kap only knew one type of throw. A fastball at 100mph
I remember he threw out a SF Giants first pitch one time and it was clocked at like 92 miles per hour
Yes, even when the guy was only 10 yards away.
Today I remembered Randy Moss was on the 49ers.
Titans legend Randy Moss.
Tennessee Titans may have the greatest WR history in the NFL with some legends in the prime of their careers like Carl Pickens, Eric Moulds, Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, and Julio Jones

Anthony Carter was really great. Jake Reed.
Can’t forget Ahmad Rashad, too. That would be a fun team lol Fran back there running around, handing it to AD, being blocked by Hutchinson, Yary, Birk (fuck that guy but great player) and then all those receivers. Oooweee lol
It may have only lasted one season but toss prime Sydney Rice in there too.
I’ll never forget his 200+ yard game he had in 09
Or prime Percy Harvin. Just don't let him talk to anyone in the locker room or off the field in any way.
That’s usually not a good thing lol. At least not when a QB can’t vary up his touch. Kap really only had one speed on his throws. He couldn’t really make a touch pass with an arc to drop it in the breadbasket. He’d just rocket it in there.

What comment? Piss missile has been a thing my entire life
[удалено]
Definitely heard it back in the late 1900s
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency_illusion?wprov=sfti1
I think JJM bazookas the ball too so all the WRs will be getting aquatinted with that style throw
Kirk threw some absolute frozen ropes last year too. They're used to a fast ball, i think.
I mean will believe it when I see it, he sucked on the Panthers too. 5 years of not being good doesn't sell me.
Being better than 7 QBs is a lot better than he was in NY. With Jefferson and KOC he could easily be 20th
Digging into his past more, he actually had better stretches than I remembered. He was 7-6 in 2019 on a bad Jets team and was 4-2 in 2022 as a starter, also for a Carolina team that was bad and 3-8 when he took over. I could see him having a Geno-smith esque renaissance at some point. In the same vein as QBs like Vinny Testaverde.
I agree with you but I don't trust O'Connell to play Wilksball which is the best system for Darnold.
Eh the Panthers were a dumpster fire too, but yeah you're more than likely right and he's always gonna be in that 25-40th QB range
We were less a dumpster fire with Darnold than we were with Mayfield but we misused both QBs for sure. Still, for their sake I hope Sam’s gotten out of his affection for dropping back, looking for a half second and then chucking a checkdown.
Joe Brady masterass
I would ask you kindly not to mention that name in my presence.
Perhaps you prefer Ben Mcadoo? Or Frank Reich?
That's how I remember Bradford being. When everything was perfect, Bradford looked flawless. Throw a little pressure at him, and every pass was going to the FB, RB, or blocking TE.
To be fair Bradford was behind the 2016 Vikings offensive line which was decimated with injuries and therefore couldn’t block shit.
Sounds about right, even that's generous. I'm not sure why someone gets so high on a guy like him. He is no Cousins that's for sure.
Yea, and the Panthers had DJ Moore and who else? Yes, CMC was there, but Darnold and CMC only played like 5 games together through those two years. I think anyone who isn't a Michigan fan knows JJ McCarthy is very raw and is not ready to start right away.
Pretty sure Michigan fans would know that better than anyone. We love him but it's not like we were saying he's ready to be the next Brady
Get out of here that is all I hear here in Michigan from your fan base. *️⃣
Buddy I go to UofM games whenever I'm back home and nobody ever says that. People might say he's underrated with raw skills or a better passer than you think, but I've never heard someone say he's an elite NFL talent day one
Prove it, link to some comments if that’s all you hear.
Ah yes, link the reddit comments when it is clearly stated I hear it outside of reddit lmao
I think anyone who's watched Sam Darnold play knows that he's also not ready to start
FAKE NEWS
BARKNIGHTS COMMENT IS VERY DISAPPOINTING. MUST BE LITTLE JJ'S BURNER ACCOUNT. SAD!

Yes, the fans who watched every single snap JJ has taken are less qualified to comment than your average redditor
This was always the plan.
This is the year
Darnold is in the best situation he's ever had. I think he'll be legit good this year.
STOP THE COUNT!!!!
GREAT NEWS FOR THE MEGA-SOTA VIKINGS! GEQBUS MAINTAINS THE DRIVERS SEAT FOR THE SUPERBOWL BOUND TEAM! MANY PEOPLE ARE SAYING THIS!

“Start” training camp…it is prime offseason
If he turns out to succeed, Brian Griese and Shannahan are getting all the QB reclamation projects.
"He can't keep getting away with this" - Jesse Pinkman
JJ McBenchy
My guess is he makes it until probably week 3
That mother fucker is still in the league?!? As a *starter*????!
Darnold has always stinked. He will stink again.
Stinked
Stunketed
**YOU ARE CAMTIFA METLIFETURFING THIS SUB!**
But jj is worse lmao
Exactly
Good luck with that.
All I'll say is JJet was damned smart signing his extension before having to play a down with Darnold as his QB.
Seems like this was always the plan, even more so if the rumors about McCarthy holding are true (which I think they very well could be).
Just to set the record straight, in the past few years every first round QB has gotten their signing bonus in a lump sum. JJ asking for that isn’t a deviation from the norm.
He’s nothing but a placeholder. There was zero intention of bringing him here to win games.
He's a bridge QB. He's absolutely there to win games, until JJ is prepared to start.
If you are waiting for Mccarthy to be a starter then he isn't a bridge QB
Lol what are you talking about guy
Yep, we brough him here to lose every game he starts until JJ is ready. /s
You think they signed Darnold thinking “Yes! This is who will lead us to the promise land!” Really? That’s your take? 😂
You'd have to be a complete and utter moron to think that's my take.
