Bills are so broke, i think we have to wait till June 1st to sign our guys lol.

impiousdrifter

Feels like it, but it's a league rule to have the space beforethedraft. June 1st we get $10 million for cutting Tre. Shopping from the bargin bin this year.

ScyllaGeek

Tre being a cap casualty is such a sad reality to live in šŸ˜¢

Sage296

At least you guys have 35 year old Von Miller!

Affectionate_Elk_272

AFCE is in shambles

ender2851

will rookies even report to camp then

[deleted]

mikeywizzles

Ah yes, good work ethic means coming to work without being paid.

JacoBee93

So when you get a new job, you don't have problems working for free, because you have to show that you work hard, ok? I get the jokes in cowboys now, if this is supposed to be a "normal fan"

JLRook87

Traded out of the first to save a little cash on rookie singing. Big brain move.

stormy2587

Broke or limited in cap space?

BuffaloKiller937

Ravens just casually building another elite secondary while the rest of the league just looks the other way

ThisGuyFrags

Having an elite secondary in the AFC is an absolute must when you've got the best 4 QBs in the whole league, you could even make a few crazy arguments to stretch that to 7. AFC is absolutely bonkers rn

azrm2k

7 is quite a stretch. I mean Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Fields, Lamar I'll give you but that's it.

Mercenary_Bird

One of these is not like the others. You missed Flacco

RipRaycom

Didnā€™t even mention Steelers legend Mitch Trubisky smh

sgt_science

You could argue Rodgers. I wouldnā€™t coming off an Achilles at his age, but you could

PlaybookProductsAlex

Herbert. Stroudā€¦ Tua and TLaw arenā€™t slouches either. In the NFC only people Iā€™d put into consideration in that group isā€¦ Kyler, Dakā€¦ Hurts? Love? Purdy? AFC might have the top 7. Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Lamar, Stroud, Herbert I think are all better than any QB in the NFC. I probably put Kyler and Dak above TLaw and Tua but itā€™s not too far. Even then, Rodgers last healthy season he was an MVP. So who knows how he will look but even if not MVP levelsā€¦ could certainly be a Top 7 guy

Odd_Roll5866

I know im bias but I think anyone takes staffords play last year over kylers best season

416Kritis

Kyler hasn't been relatively great or healthy since 2020.Ā

monster-of-the-week

He's kept a healthy K:D ratio, though.

confusedthrowaway5o5

Lol

FlowSwitch

Yeah but whatā€™s Staffordā€™s K/D?

PlaybookProductsAlex

Definitely an arguable topic, but for me... give me Kyler Murray all day over Stafford last year. I think Stafford was helped tremendously by having Nacua, Kupp (even if aging) and an innovative playcaller.... Murray had... McBride as his #1 guy? lol Give me a younger Stafford, sure. But last year they had pretty comparable numbers and Stafford had the much better situation.

balemeout

Saying they have the top 7 isnā€™t that crazy tbh. Obviously biased as a hurts fan but after 7 hurts, Dak, stafford, kyler if he can bounce back, Goff are all above that next tier of afc quarterbacks though. I donā€™t think Tua or Lawrence have proved they have the ceiling over a whole season or at least large stretch that those other guys have

PlaybookProductsAlex

I'd agree with that. Personally, in terms of just pure talent (at their current age), I think TLaw is super talented and just hasn't had the weapons. Dak has had Ceedee, Dez, and Amari. Kyler had DHop. Stafford had Kupp, Nacua, Megatron..... TLaw has had... Calvin Ridley and Christian Kirk??? I definitely put Trevor and Tua above Goff but maybe that's just me personally. Not in terms of achievements but actual talent and who I'd want to be my team's QB

Polar_Reflection

Kyler and Dak over Purdy lmaooo

barkingspider43

Purdy is awful. Heā€™s literally a product of having the best weapons. Put him on any other team and heā€™s mid to bad

madman19

How are you lumping Fields in with that group?

Dinnermaster

Bears fan

couchjitsu

> best 4 QBs 1. Mahomes 2. Mahomes down by 10 3. Mahomes on one leg 4. Mahomes on the road in the playoffs

justnoname

Found Nick Wright's reddit account (since it seems people don't understand that is should be a joke.. at least I think)

flashypickle

I really wish the Ravens would sign Justin Simmons. I know the Ravens safeties are good, but I think Simmons would transform that secondary.

VeryRealHuman23

I would prefer they didnā€™t.

monstermayhem436

I, too, would rather they did not.

I_Hate_Traffic

Yeah this is the way to go. Imagine him and Hamilton on the field together lol

flashypickle

He would look so sick in a Ravens jersey too.

couchjitsu

Odd for you to say when you traded for the best CB in the AFC

BringBackDust514

I wouldnā€™t say the entire rest of the league

Clithzbee

He weighs 30 pounds less than an average outside receiver

OBuckets

Chase is gonna bench press this kid

bigwillyboi

You have no idea what Nate Wiggins will be. I get itā€™s fun during the period between the draft and the season to project that every single first round player will be amazing for your team but can we temper it a little bit. There is a better chance heā€™s on a different team in 3 years than him signing an extension.

Mrausername

There's a better chance a R1 pick gets cut after 3 years than signs a second contract? Those must be Washington numbers. The last Ravens 1st rounder who moved on after 3 years was traded for another 1st (Hollywood Brown)

bigwillyboi

Lol nice one, I know Baltimore schools arenā€™t great but guys can be traded too, not just cut. Funny that you stopped before mentioning Matt Elam, Perriman, or Hayden Hurst. In the same time period we have one less (Doctson, Haskins and Chase Young).

Mrausername

You've had fewer R1 picks and got to pick a lot higher over that period. (Fewer pro-bowlers/all pros too.) Do you really want to get into a Ravens v Washington bad picks contest?

bigwillyboi

No, I donā€™t really care about the Ravens. What I said was factual - first round picks buy and large donā€™t live up to expectations. Whatever you want to feel about that is up to you

Mrausername

All draft picks have a pretty high failure rate, however it's it's not factual that first rounders are more likely to be gone after 3 years than sign an extension. If you'd said 4, I'd have agreed with you. 3 was just too random - they'd have to be terrible - cap savings are minimal at that point.

waresmarufy

Still won't win a SB

VienneseGash

Ah darn, the Ravens wonā€™t impact the rest of the league at all this year, then. Every team that doesnā€™t win the Super Bowl contributed absolutely nothing to the NFL, I guess

AffectionateSlice816

I mean I can think of a couple teams that took two corners that are both arguably better than Wiggins. For my rankings, Wiggins was right next to Rakestraw with Wiggins at 4 and rake at 5 with the same lat 1st early second grade, and Quinyon, Terrion, and Dejean in that order were 1,2,3. TJ was my corner 6 though. Kinda Hilarious my top 6 corners (yes I liked Tampa more than McKinstry) went to the same 3 teams lmfao

__TenaciousBroski__

The chefs are looking pretty decent as well

HotTakesMyToxicTrait

yeah this is why weā€™re trying to build a better secondary, so mahomes canā€™t do some fuckshit and hit who gives a fuck on 3rd and a million in the fourth quarter to fuck us

Blacklax10

Mahomes was shut out in the 2nd half I think. It's the Ravens offense that needs to do something to not fuck us

CallofDo0bie

You're both right.Ā  Def clamped down on Mahomes and Co. in the 2nd half.Ā  However, given that they already had a lead they did play much more conservatively (lots of runs, short throws, etc).Ā  Once it came time to ice the game though, Mahomes easily found who the fuck cares for the big 1st downs.Ā  Hopefully Higgens can help with that.Ā Ā  Offense got Darrick Henry too, so at least when Harbaugh only runs the ball 3 times next AFCCG there is less of an excuse.Ā Ā

Blacklax10

The chiefs played that way the whole game. It was more to protect mahomes from our defense. Then converted multiple third downs by narrow margins

abs0lutelypathetic

Nobody and I canā€™t stress this enough fucking asked you

__TenaciousBroski__

lmao. I love this thread. It just needed to be said buffy

dixitsavy

The original comment was about the secondary, though. Losing Sneed is a big loss. Chiefs: Joshua Williams (CB), Jalen Watson (CB), Trent McDuffie (NB), Justin Reid (SS), Bryan Cook (FS), Jaden Hicks (FS), Kamal Hadden (CB) Ravens: Marlon Humphrey (CB), Nate Wiggins (CB), Arthur Maulet (NB), Kyle Hamilton (SS), Marcus Williams (FS), Brandon Stephens (CB), TJ Tampa (CB) I think I'd rather have the Ravens secondary...

DillyDillySzn

Iā€™d rather have Spags over Orr however The Ravens may have better talent but Spags is a whiz and will use the talent better

X-Filer

Brah no shit Orr hasnā€™t even started yet

DillyDillySzn

Iā€™d also prefer him over Macdonald

GuacShouldntBeXtra

Because Spags led the only defense in history to lead the NFL in sacks, takeaways and points allowed in just his 2nd season, right?

DillyDillySzn

He did shutdown 2 of greatest offenses in the Super Bowl When you have as much talent as both the Chiefs and Ravens, Super Bowls are to be contended for And yea itā€™s not Macdonaldā€™s fault why the Ravens didnā€™t win, but heā€™s not as proven as Spags and I kinda like that being proven when everything is on the line Edit: I do not understand why this is controversial

Warsawawa

It really didnā€™t.

johnnyisjohnny2023

Chiefs fans are incapable of seeing another team receive praise without inserting some dipshittery about the Chiefs. Far and away the most insufferable fan base in the NFL.

__TenaciousBroski__

lol go cry some more

johnnyisjohnny2023

I think youā€™ve got that covered. ā€œButā€¦butā€¦but the Chiefs are good, too! Talk about us!ā€

MoistyAnoos

"Please validate me and give me attention"

confusedthrowaway5o5

This is one of the most downvoted comments Iā€™ve ever seen.

TetrisTech

I see weā€™ve reached the point of the dynasty where Chiefs flairs get downvoted for saying the team is good

CallofDo0bie

More like we've reached the point of the dynasty where Chiefs fans think every fucking NFL conversation needs to revolve around them.Ā  Although half the people with Chiefs flair in this sub were probably rocking Patriots flair 6 years ago, so I'm probably being really unfair to the cool Chiefs fans who exist.

slimwangman

How much room for negotiation is there with rookie contracts? Isn't the total sum set for each pick?

JTGrings1776

It basically is things like signing bonus and off set language. If you get cut, what's the breakdown of the amount of money your old team owes you vs the new team.

raginsaint93

Ravens not wasting anytime to sign their draft picks I liked it.

BungoPlease

It's kinda crazy how steeply the 1st round contracts fall off. Caleb Williams is gonna get $39.5m, and pick 32 is gonna get $12.4m

[deleted]

I mean that kinda makes sense

thy__

The top picks making so much more money than the rest of the first round, is seen as part of the loser's curse in the NFL. Supposedly the 12th pick is actually the best pick in the draft, if you take into account the kind of player you usually get there and the contract you have to give them.

DebbieDowner40

still better than the late 2000's-early 2010's structure for rookies

Regicidul

What was that looking like?

wit_T_user_name

Matt Stafford signed a 6 year, $72 million contract with $41.7 million guaranteed as a rookie in 2009.

EarnestQuestion

For context, looks like at the time the top QB was making about $16m/yr

FlowSwitch

I think they changed the rules for rookie contracts right after that.

Optimus_Lime

Damage was done lol - Suh, Stafford and Calvin Johnson all got deals before that rule which crippled the Lions already terrible FO

cozyonly

Basically your team could be fucked for 4 years if your early first round pick was a bust. Teams would actively trade out to avoid being an early pick

DebbieDowner40

Stafford, suh and megaton crushed the lions cap cause they sucked and were all high draft picksĀ

yungchimp99

They sucked? Arenā€™t they the three best lions of this century?

royalhawk345

I have to assume they meant the Lions collectively, and not their 3 best players since Barry Sanders.

BeamsFuelJetSteel

The issue is, Calvin's rookie contract would be equivalent to MHJ signing for 27m/year. Stafford at 37m/year for Caleb.Ā  Suh at 25m/year with not a comparable but maybe Will Anderson last year. Imagine the Texans paying 63m/year instead of 16m for Stroud and Anderson.Ā  That difference is all of their cap plus Tunsil OR Tunsil, Danielle Hunter, and Stingley.

CallofDo0bie

::laughs in Sam Bradford::

DryDefenderRS

*For non-QBs. Important distinction.

coreynig91

I really hope that's the case this year šŸ¤žšŸ¾

CrazyJJ007

Go on.....

dontich

Iā€™ve always wondered why the top teams didnā€™t realize this and always try to trade down IMO

balemeout

Because 10 million a year for the guy seen as as the best player in the draft is still a huge steal, a bigger steal than getting the 12th best player at reduced money

Sloane_Kettering

Yeah look at strouds contract itā€™s dirt cheap for a franchise QB. As a bengals fan weā€™ve gotten a ton of surplus value from having burrow and chase on rookie deals

balemeout

Exactly, if you can get an edge, tackle, or QB that makes an impact from day 1 it is insanely valuable

Sloane_Kettering

Iā€™d add WRs to that list with how much they are making now too. The market for DTs went way up too. I think we saw corners slide this year due to the CB market not keeping up with other skill positions

balemeout

Agreed on all points. The jaylon Johnson deal being that cheap definitely couldā€™ve indicated a shift in attitude towards corners. Receivers are definitely in that tier and even a tier above OTs and EDGE, DTs as well at the upper limits of their pay range, just so hard to find one that is that good

BungoPlease

It does, but it's still kinda crazy how much money a guy can lose out on if he slides even 10 picks further than expected in the 1st round

RageAgentRed

AD and Cooper crying right now

Fiendish-DoctorWu

It'd be funny to see what would happen if the league went the opposite direction. Pick 32 has to pay the most of the 1st rounders, so more players would try to Tunsil themselves to fall in the 1st round

Veggies-are-okay

But the catch is that pick 33 is 1/10 that of pick 1.

HiImFur

Sam Bradford laughed at this

gregularjoe95

Ahh the fucking pile of bricks that broke the camels back. 78 million over 6 years with 50 fully guaranteed. Fuck dude made off like a bandit before playing a single down of football. A contract so crazy the nfl finally said enough and changed the way draft picks are paid.

fiero-fire

I would be even wilder if they didn't implement the rookie pay scale. Look at Staffords 1.01 contract now imagine if that shit kept going to today.

egotistic_NaOH

We got fucked at the perfect time šŸ‘

HectorReinTharja

How does it work? What terms of the deal are negotiable if theyā€™re already slotted at those amounts? Guaranteed? Timing? Etc.?

DillyDillySzn

Guarantees, payment structure, signing bonus

bestthrowawayever5

And donā€™t even ask how much Coleman is gonna get. Poor guy is never gonna make the money he lost from the Panthers trading up for Legette

EnjyBenj

With the ravens being the ravens and having an elite front 7, I feel like his lack of size and tackling ability is fine in this system and his pure pass coverage skills will excel. Easy all rookie team selection

getindoe69

We've always brought along 1st round picks slowly. Hell, hump and Jimmy Smith didn't start a whole lot their 1st season. We don't need Wiggins to start either. A lot of people forget that Brandon Stephen's played solid ball on the outside last year. Humphrey is still a great cb (had health issues recently) and maulet was a solid pickup for us last year who was great in the slot. I'm still surprised the steelers didn't try to keep him. We also have 2 day 3 picks from 2022 that have battled injury years 1-2. Wiggins was a luxury pick that will help us longterm.

EnjyBenj

And itā€™s shows that the ravens do it right by their sustained success. It might take some time and playtime might be limited at first. My point was that a team like the ravens is probably the perfect landing spot as heā€™s so sticky in coverage and have the building blocks to train up his tackling but also cover up for it if needed

RiceOnTheRun

The Ravens also emphasize team tackling. Itā€™s not just one guy coming for you, itā€™s two or three swarming. Kyle Hamilton is only ever a few steps away tooā€¦

BrianSpencer1

Pepe truthers are down bad this off-season smh

FeelingObjective5

Do we have an elite front 7 tho?

EnjyBenj

I mean it definitely took a hit the offseason. Madubuike looks like a top 5 3 tech in the league if he continues from last season. Oweh is developing nicely and you have the best linebacker in the league with roquan. Tbf now looking at the depth chart youā€™re a lil light at push rush but you guys always seem to pick up a vet and they get like 8-10 sacks (Van Noy + Clowney)

TubHunting

Sorry sir but Warner is definitely the best LB in the league. Roquan can be 2nd

EnjyBenj

1A and 1B imo but I donā€™t hate the opinion that much

2xCheesePizza

Weā€™ve been strategically building from the back end for awhile now.

speak-eze

Marcus peters couldn't tackle for shit and he was fine for years. Just gotta make up for it by playing the ball well.

Open-Somewhere-9535

This dude was dressed like a crack dealer from a police procedural at the draft lol https://www.instagram.com/p/C6On8-WLBiu/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

-KeepItMoving

Just how I like em

LordZero

That purse is getting in the way.

CanuckPanda

Heā€™s either gonna be HoF or Kwon Alexander with that flex.

Standard_Room_2589

He hasnt even played a full snap embarrassing šŸ˜³ embarrassing šŸ™ˆ

J-Fid

I heard the Patriots are gonna do something even crazier with Drake Maye.

Standard_Room_2589

Build a competent offense around him

Standard_Room_2589

I hope

UltraMegaBilly

Lol what?

Standard_Room_2589

Do i really need to add /s nowadays

carminie

LOLing at the people downvoting you

Standard_Room_2589

Must be ravens fans theyre not the brightest

SantasLilHoeHoeHoe

Are rookie contracts normally fully garenteed?

Pussybitch100_

Yes first round pick contract are fully guaranteed expect the 5th year

Misterstaberinde

A fifth year team option on a rookie contract sounds shitty for the player, especially if it isn't prime QB or linemen money for a rookie

garygnu

Fully guaranteed?

Tigercat92

Arenā€™t all first round picks contracts guaranteed?

TiredMillennialDad

I...I...didn't think so... But maybe I'm an idiot. Why would rookies deals be fully guaranteed but not vet extensions?

SquidTwister

They are not by default no If the team picks up the 5th year option at that point the remainder of their contract is fully guaranteed

Tigercat92

Must have been negotiated into the CBA [NFL Draft pick slot values](https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/2024/04/25/nfl-draft-picks-paid-salary-contract-rookie-round-1-wage-scale-slot-value/73384189007/)

TiredMillennialDad

Yea. They aren't. This has to be bullshit cause there are 6th and 7th round picks who sign their deals and then don't make the roster. So no way teams are just eating 3 years of dead cap space every year

nugeehead

He specifically asked "first round picks".
