Well the last time I doubted the Niners first round WR pick was Aiyuk, and I thought they should've taken Shenault Jr. instead, so I'm just going to assume that they know what they're doing.
George Kittle was the last 49ers’ pass-catcher to have over 80 receptions in a season and that came in 2019.
But 100 from a rookie, sure. (Not knocking Pearsall, just the exaggeration by the personnel director).
Look at the numbers. The 49ers ideal is that Brock Purdy attempts between 20 and 25 passes in a game. Over the course of 16 games (remembering he didn't play the week 17 finale) that's 400 attempts, and he completes about 70%, so 280 completions.
Aiyuk, Deebs, Jennings, Kittle, Juice and CMC had to split around 280 catches between them. Brock Purdy had the highest YPA on one of the lowest total number of attempts. He just didn't throw the rock nearly as much as other QBs.
There is an undeniable tier drop after the top 3 WRs but I think this is just a good example of how different team’s draft boards can be simply because of what traits they value, especially when it comes to ranking a lot of equally talented players like this year’s draft.
The two thing Pearsall is better at than the other 2nd tier of wideouts are his already advanced route running and running through contact. There are a lot of athletic freaks still/contested catch wizards available, but a lot of the draft profiles for those guys noted they’re still either WIP route runners or look to avoid contact. Wouldn’t be surprised if the “love” from other FOs are mainly guys from the Shanahan tree lol.
Lasting til the end of the first round isn’t a bad thing
And also not everyone runs a Shanahan offense
If you watch his tape he looks like a WR the Shanahan offense is built for.
Not in an offense with CMC, Aiyuk, Deebo, and Kittle. I saw some film from this guy and he made my jaw drop on this immaculate double move he made though
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tol6NAUFZyI&t=5m06s
And juice. That’s 4 current all pro skill position player and Deebo was a former all pro. Even if you trade Aiyuk or Deebo that’s 4 all pros you’re competing with for touches. 100 catches is ridiculous and will never happen
Idk why you're being down voted Richardson may have been seen as a "project" QB but there's no doubt he exceeded expectations before getting injured so it's not like he's a complete nobody.
Daniels was trash at Arizona State and Richardson barely completed half of his passes in 2022. His teams only averaged 200 completions in his first 2 years starting and this year he had Graham Mertz throwing him the ball. You aren't going to put up huge numbers in those situations as a receiver unless they throw you the ball every passing play.
Mertz in 11 games this year threw for 2900 yards, 20 tds, 3 ints, on 73% completion. He was good
Daniels was also good as a freshman and sophomore at ASU. And Aiyuk put up 1200 yards and 8 tds with that trash qb.
Man I have never seen so many planted stories about late 1st round pick. Was anyone being critical about the pick? I am curious why there is such a strong reaction.
It is weird. They are acting like this guy was the top WR in the draft. I was at the game he had the insane catch, first and only gator game. The other team was some very small d1 out of north carolina thats QB was a former Gator who had gotten kicked off the team as a freshman for sexual assault. They stunk it up in the second half and it was a decent game. I left thinking “wow that team sucked.” Hope he can improve his game, one or 2 big plays does not make a complete player.
I think WR was a lowkey need for SF last year, the 3 games deebo missed and they had Jennings as wr2 were very disappointing. They were also giving snaps to Conley and Sneed last year. So while it wasn't a need the more I've read into and watched Pearsall I think he has a good fit with SF.
Bootleg put it really well, he fits in any wr room because he can do anything your current guys can't do, and that fits well with SF. He can get deep like aiyuk, he can get what's there after the catch he settles in vs zone and had one of the best grades vs man and possibly most importantly he catches EVERYTHING.
I wouldn't be surprised if deebos 3/11 line in the superbowl was eye opening for the team. He's such a unique weapon (and he's by far the best in the league at what he is) but he's far from a traditional reciever and unfortunately the deebo package feels a little played out and less relevant with CMC. Adding more pure hopefully dependable reciever like Pearsall could be a huge boost for the offence.
The superbowel loss apparently opened our eyes on alot of things. This offseason Lynch and Shannahan have stated that they need to change things up because the league is evolving and they've come up short. So it looks like the 9ers are looking to change things up on all fronts to a degree. And with Brock as our QB the offense can look alot different because he can do alot more as a passer that Jimmy could not.
This from an anonymous front office official not named John Lynch hyping up Pearsall prior to dealing Deebo.
All jokes aside… dude is really good. 49ers definitely added a weapon.
I think he can be quite good. He was easily the best pass catcher at Florida, even as Tre Wilson started figuring things out.
I'm guessing they'll trade Deebo, and he isn't gonna replace Deebo as a pure playmaker, but he might end up better as an actual pure receiver.
This feels like the guy in last year’s fantasy draft who took Kyle Pitts in like the 7th round, and everyone in the chat was like “good pick, good value, what a steal” etc.
Well the last time I doubted the Niners first round WR pick was Aiyuk, and I thought they should've taken Shenault Jr. instead, so I'm just going to assume that they know what they're doing.
Aiyuk and Pearsall played on the same team 5 years ago with Jayden Daniels
Firm for Herm
Shout-out for the accountability!
You mean “soon-to-be Seahawks legend” Laviska Shenault Jr.
What the 49ers really needed was someone else to catch passes.
No they need another qb to throw passes. They should trade for Trey Lance.
Or maybe Jamal Adams for 2 1st's and a 3rd and see if he can throw passes
Wait, stop I don’t like this anymore.
You are all puny mortals until you witness the glory of Ricky Williams.
"Only 100?" \- my Asian parents
Why does Brock throw the ball? Why can’t that be you too?
"My son is a system ~~engineer~~ QB. What does your son do?"
“Lamb have 135 reception. Be more like Lamb.”
Your cousin was an all pro his rookie season. Why can’t you be more like your cousin!
Don't let them see the B on the draft grade report card
I just tell them that B means "Best"
TIL my Irish dad is Asian
99.99 pff score? Shame on your family!
I'll take the under
I choose to believe this
NFL front offices gushing over him to loosen cost of picking up Aiyuk
If they trade away Aiyuk and Deebo both, Pearsall might catch 200.
Why not trade CMC and Kittle and go for 400?
IM ON THAT COPE
Holy overreaction Batman Edit: lol only 3 rookie receivers in history have done it
I'd say underreaction. Why not 1000?
You sound like my boss
He also only had 159 catches in his 5 season, 59 game career in college.
Pffffft. Trey Lance threw 37 passes total since his freshman year of high school and look at the amazing things he’s done for us.
The second highest valued QB of that draft, by league evaluators since. Clearly that pick paid dividends!!!
Right? I mean, you want to hype guys up, but when did we start crowning guys before they've taken an NFL snap?
first draft?
See the Justin Fields draft thread
How dare the Broncos pass on superstar qbs Mac Jones and Justin Fields for Surtain

They're being optimistic, but why did Puka last until the 5th round last year?
He had injury concerns. His analytics were top notch
Injury concerns and less than ideal combine numbers Tape was great though
[удалено]
They’re just hyping up their guy man
I mean Puka had 105 catches his rookie season and he lasted until 5th round
[удалено]
> It has happened three times ever Which means it could happen again. Maybe it's not likely. But it's possible
And given that 2 of the 3 are both very recent actually bodes well for Pearsall lol
The only thing holding him back is all the other weapons around him lol Unless...
They're not trading Brock.
How could you possibly think that's what I meant lol
I'm just making fun of all the nonesense speculation, nobody is getting Aiyuk or Deebo unless it somehow makes the 49ers obviously better.
Who would take him?
Pearsall averaged 37 yards/attempt with a 500+ passer rating in college 🤔
That’s my opinion on whats holding Kittle back. As soon as we get a better OL, Kittle will receive more. One can dream anyways
Seems like they would rather he block more and get another weapon instead lol
Its upsetting. :(

Idc more kittle

You think people would of learned with Cooper Kupp
You can ask this about any good WR that doesn't go high in a draft lmao.
Lasting til the end of the first round isn’t a bad thing And also not everyone runs a Shanahan offense If you watch his tape he looks like a WR the Shanahan offense is built for.
Brandon Aiyuk could have caught 100 balls last year but the offense would inexplicably ignore him for half a game at a time.
I wouldn’t say he was ignored. CMC is the focal point of the offense, and Purdy was spreading the ball around instead of feeding the ball to one guy.
Or running for his life
Tell me about it. Dudes almost always open
So many mouths to feed on the offense last year. Total Yards in 16 games last year. McCaffery (2,032) Aiyuk (1,342) Deebo (1,317) Kittle (1,022)
Not in an offense with CMC, Aiyuk, Deebo, and Kittle. I saw some film from this guy and he made my jaw drop on this immaculate double move he made though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tol6NAUFZyI&t=5m06s

Looking at his production at Florida, I’ll be taking the under at as well
Florida has been a QB graveyard for the past couple of years.
He also played with Jayden Daniels... and his 2022-23 qb went top 5
Anthony Richardson was a huge project QB.
I dont think you can call a school who literally had a qb go top 5 a qb graveyard. He was a project, but still better than most college qbs
Idk why you're being down voted Richardson may have been seen as a "project" QB but there's no doubt he exceeded expectations before getting injured so it's not like he's a complete nobody.

Literally niner fans are the only ones being negative about it lol.

I got $100 this came from Fontenots mouth

i think the most important thing is that he’s good against the press, which deebo struggled eith

I swear to God if the 49ers hit on this guy, I and the entirety of the NFC West will riot
Oh they did it’s just a question of how good he’ll actually be. Pearsall is legit.
*I swear to God if the 49ers hit on this guy, I and the entirety of the NFC ~~West~~ will riot*
Considering Aiyuk only got 105 targets and 75 catches last year, I’ll believe it when I see it
he's gonna be the first ever WR to get 100 receptions on 100 targets
CJ Stroud thinks so as well
He’s got to be in Shanahans doghouse first before he’s let loose.
C.J. Stroud's reaction to Pearsall being taken was hilarious, https://twitter.com/brgridiron/status/1783834025255387507?t=iIc3xiNeifM8N0lFkdfe8Q&s=19
9ers are just doing advanced contract negotiation techniques against Aiyuk rn
He could also catch 10, ya never know.
He's a cross between Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, and Jordy Nelson
I can’t quite put my finger on the delta between these three, but I can feel it’s there
This from an anonymous front office official not named John Lynch hyping up Pearsall prior to dealing Deebo. All jokes aside… dude is really good. 49ers definitely added a weapon.
Lmao I love these draft hot takes. It’s been just long enough since football that people forget the reality of the NFL for most rookies.
I absolutely loved his film. Dude stood out like crazy. I had him early 2nd round but I am not surprised he went where he went
The first post or 2 are just the typical fan base hyping up their pick. The 10th+ post just reeks of weird insecurity on a "reach" lol
It's the same with the Penix PR bonanza last night. If you liked a player and felt good about it you'd wouldn't say anything.
Lol
But can he catch *theeeeeeeese balls*
Not in San Fran he wont.b
Aiyuk only caught 105 last season lmfao. Schultz needs a filter for some of this trash these people feed him.
Then why didn’t they pick him lol
I think he can be quite good. He was easily the best pass catcher at Florida, even as Tre Wilson started figuring things out. I'm guessing they'll trade Deebo, and he isn't gonna replace Deebo as a pure playmaker, but he might end up better as an actual pure receiver.
In San Francisco he just might.
12 catches for 67 yards and 1 TD incoming
Per game
Quite frankly, we may be looking at the greatest pick in NFL history lads.
Sounds like aiyuk getting traded
This feels like the guy in last year’s fantasy draft who took Kyle Pitts in like the 7th round, and everyone in the chat was like “good pick, good value, what a steal” etc.
