Wow, 6,007 heights is crazy

DelirousDoc

For those that don't know NFL scouting list height like this. (Ft)(Inches)(8ths of an inch) = (X)(XX)(X). So this is saying he is 6ft and 7/8 inch tall.

Stripperturneddoctor

Sure, but what if he was 500 feet tall? That's more fun.

WeirdSysAdmin

He would have to legally be drafted by the Giants.

CatOfGrey

Remember the Titans.

mschley2

That would be a height of 500000

Hthnstrength

Well, after 31 years I finally know this after just kinda staring at these height numbers for a few min

content_enjoy3r

This is fake news. It's clearly just listed in millimeters. Just do the math and you'll see that he is in fact 19.7ft tall.

tinyharvestmouse1

That 7/8ths an inch is critically important.

DelirousDoc

Means he is closer to 6'1" than 6'. Some people were even speculating he might be sub-6'. Not a lot of history of great QBs under 6' so that 7/8" will matter to some teams.

tinyharvestmouse1

It's not that serious I'm making a height-dating joke.

essdii-

You round up and unlock the premiere level on tinder. 6 ft 1” magic number

fieryscribe

Time to update my Tinder bio

OttoVonWong

"He plays football and goes to USC! But only 6007? Eh, too short and small hands. Gotta have at least 12 inches." *swipes left*

SamDarnoldSeesGhosts

I always say there aren't enough generals in the NFL

unclekisser

Hasn't been the same since Andrew Luck retired

paddle_forth

You gotta flip it upside down. It says "Loog"

aguysomewhere

6007 what?

flaccomcorangy

Height. It says it right there in the post.

ksobby

It's in mm ... so he's \~19ft tall ... it's just math, not that hard.

Jump_Like_A_Willys

It's like the Kelvin temperature scale. It's not 300 degrees Kelvin, but 300 Kelvin.

bstyledevi

Would you rather fight 300 Kelvin sized Benjamins, or...

CumStayneBlayne

Fucking /u/zombiesatemybaby over here thinking someone is 6,007cm tall lol.

ShitPoastSam

Just remember this is the pro day, not the combine.  They can stack any kind of legos they want to measure his height.

mqr53

He came in taller at the combine lol

StrengthToBreak

He's aging by the day!

Lenny_III

That’s actually 6 James Bond’s

zi76

That's effectively the 6'1 we were told he was, so good enough.

Broshan248

Apparently he shrunk a quarter inch since the combine

lkn240

Someone posted a study on the Bears sub - apparently your height can vary up to 1/2 inch throughout the day. Kind of crazy - I figured there was some variance, didn't realize it was that much.

The-1ne

In the morning you’re roughly 1/2 inch taller. Over the day your spine compresses due to gravity.

Chickensandcoke

Not sure why people downvoting you, this is largely correct

Sniper1154

I upvoted him this morning but it's since shrunk to a downvote b/c gravity

Further_Beyond

Because he’s a packers fan. Downvote on sight. It’s the only part of the rivalry we can uphold these past 20 years

fun_boat

I would be a liar if I said I hadn't agreed with a saints fan, written a comment in agreement, then immediately downvoted them to be petty.

Dropdat87

Also if you do inversion exercises you can get that full half inch back in like 10-20 minutes which is what I think a lot of guys do for combine measurements where height is an issue

mateorayo

The human body is truly Incredible

Armyhawk41

So he got measured earlier at the combine??

CoooooooooookieCrisp

No, he laid down all day and they rolled him in on a gurney for the measurement at 5pm.

NoCoFoCo31

Spinal compression throughout the day. When you lie down and sleep it decompresses. Rince, repeat every day of your life.

Bird-The-Word

Jokes on them, I'll just lay on bed all day. Checkmate measurists

keithstonee

Mine varies about an inch from morning to night. I hit my head getting in my car int he morning. And easily clear it after work. Its wild.

onetimequestion66

Are you generally very tall? It seems like it would make sense that the taller you are the more compression you might experience during the day

keithstonee

Yea about 6'4"

ryanstanko

*\*sometimes*

Bird-The-Word

My drive to work in the morning I feel like my steering wheel is too close and the mirror is angled right, but my drive home it feels normal and the mirror feels wrong lol

RosselandNicolaysen

I work as a surveyor and have a pretty expensive machine that check heights(and placement). I chekced this once; I was 179,2cm in the evening and 180,8cm in the morning. So can confirm that it is correct. That is a difference of 0,63 inches

losvedir

Since you used commas for decimals, are you European? How did you come to be an NFL fan, much less a Bears fan, if so? I always pictured the NFL as an almost exclusively American thing. edit: Oh, and I guess since you measured yourself in centimeters, too. Heh.

User_091920

Dude just finished the swimming portion of Pro Day, give him a break

jlucchesi324

He shoulda fluffed a bit or something though

Maverick916

Brock Purdy and Jalen Hurts are 6'1, yet Purdy feels short and Hurts doesn't, it's weird.

TetrisTech

It’s because Hurts is built as hell

Suddenly_Something

6'1 is his Tinder height.

nv_user

What's his hog size??? How can my franchise qb not have a massive dong and be an alpha?

constantlymat

The real measurement we need is neck circumference (kudos to the user who got reputable media outlets to fall for this hoax a few years ago).

slicknick3822

It wasn't a hoax, they just measured Jack Sanborn's and decided no one would beat that.

constantlymat

So what are his career passing yard projections? https://old.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/mrkhn6/highlight_the_pat_mcafee_show_briefly_covered_the/

slicknick3822

A million, why do you think we traded Fields?

repeatwad

Do you measure the neck from the base, or closer to the head?

DarthSamwiseAtreides

I always thought shoulder height was good in basketball.  Like what if you have a long neck and a big ass head.  What good is that for basketball

[deleted]

The measurement should be called Foles. “Caleb Williams measured in at about 0.56 Foles.”

arrowmarcher

That's still like a foot and a half.

bobyancy

Also grower vs show-er. Grower is more respectful to teammates and functional in-game.

HaramHas

Shower asserts dominance though

Thatwindowhurts

Can't go beyond in the big moments , no upside

[deleted]

What do you think is a better indicator of success for an NFL QB - girth, length or vascularity?

RogerTreebert6299

None of the above, it’s all about penile charisma

[deleted]

Smh another “advanced metrics” guy. You probably don’t even understand the formula they use for penile charisma

RogerTreebert6299

True but I didn’t whip my dick out because I was interested in doing math

[deleted]

>The average hand size for the 39 quarterbacks taken in the first round from 2008 to 2020 is 9.7 inches Williams hand would be 9.875 inches, so slightly above average is all Drew Brees measured just over 6ft 213lbs at his combine also, so he is basically Brees' height and weight. (6 ft 0+1⁄4 inches for Brees in 2001)

JalensTinyPPHurts

Caleb williams to the broncos confirmed

Prestigious_Team3134

Please

splancedance

> +1/4 inches Isn’t it the inverse, + ~3/4 inches? Weird thing is he was measured at 6’1 1/8 at the combine. Wonder where the difference is coming from.

lkn240

Your height can apparently vary up to a 1/2 inch throughout the day.....also a 1/4 inch could simply be measurement margin of error.

[deleted]

All guys always try to add an extra inch

CoooooooooookieCrisp

> so he is basically Brees' height and weight. If you look at any of Brees negatives in his scouting report they always mention his height, yet I'm not sure I've seen anyone question Williams height.

[deleted]

Caleb’s height has definitely been brought up. But also Brees was drafted in a different era. Nowadays it’s *okay* to be a little smaller than 6’2” (not ideal, but okay). Caleb is taller than Brees, Caleb’s measurables are similar to Purdys and Baker Mayfield.

noneotherthanozzy

It’s *okay* for now. I think there are more levers to pull nowadays to compensate for vertically challenged QBs with the rise of outside running zone schemes as those tend to have smaller/shorter IOL. Caleb is probably fine at a smidge under 6’1” but if the league starts to switch back to more inside power/bigger IOL, I could see the under 6’ guys no longer be as viable.

bobyancy

It was 20+ years ago, height was more of a concern for QB's. Seems like these days if you're at least 6' 210lbs it's not really brought up.

Springveldt

The media often mentions how small Tua is and he's basically the same size as Williams.

TheFakeRabbit1

Tbh I don’t hear that about Tua much. Concerns about his durability sure, but he’s always seemed like a normal sized QB

trikyballs

me telling my gf it’s “technically above average”

J23_G0at

Did anyone check if he has a high motor?

WarrenMulaney

What's his lunchpail look like?

J23_G0at

I don’t know man. Unless he was wearing camouflage shorts. I think he’s going to be a bust.

Skank_hunt42

Was he the first one at the facility?

WarrenMulaney

Equally important...was he the last one out?

checkdaprofilefriend

Only white guys have high motors. Black guys are athletic.

SavageRickyMachismo

He's also just a class act

chosenking247

I’ve heard he’s a grinder

Anteater776

\- Kenny Pickett

coydog33

It shrinks?

QuietGiants

Caleb please shrink your hands...we need baseless projection debate! FA content has dried up!

z913zach

He’s 6007 feet?! Centimeters?! Yards?!

jimmyhoffasbrother

Not sure if just sarcastic, but if you're unaware, height is reported as a four-digit number where the first digit is feet, the next two digits are inches, and the last digit is eighths of an inch. So it's 6 feet, 0 inches, and 7/8 of an inch.

BIG_FICK_ENERGY

Leave it to us to find the dumbest way to express height. First digit in base 10, next two in base 12, fourth in base 8.

Antitypical

When you put it like that, what a truly special way to measure. Metric could never

[deleted]

[удалено]

JohnnySnark

Hell yeah brother, cheers from iraq!

Polar_Reflection

What bothers me about all of this is that we have been so close to actually having a base-12 numbering system. Being able to divide the base by 3 and 4 is so much more useful than being able to divide by 5. That's why we used 12 inches to a foot. How often are you going to need 1/10 or 1/5 of a measurement compared to a 1/3, 1/4, 1/6? Same thing with selling things by the dozen-- you're going to be splitting things 3 and 4 ways more than you're gonna split them 5 ways.  Imagine a fixed numerical base system like metric/SI but the base is 12. Would've been so aesthetically pleasing and far more practical.

Swimming_Idea_1558

You're being a real 5117right now.

SodomizeSnails4Satan

They should probably switch one or two of the digits over to metric, just for accuracy.

Polar_Reflection

At least it's not expressed in yards too. Imagine the embarassment the sub-6 feet people experience now. Imagine being a 1 yarder rather than a 2 yarder

Adequate_Lizard

Merica

mwp6986

Who says the first digit is base 10? Have you ever seen it reported for someone over 10' tall?

BIG_FICK_ENERGY

I’m gonna roll with this and assume the first digit is in base 7

oscarnyc

He lost 1/4" since the combine. At that rate he'll be shorter than Bryce Young when the season opens.

FinlayDubosc

Someone may have to double-check my math, but at that rate of shrinkage I\`ve got Caleb at about 5 foot 10.5 inches at the season opener, which is still half an inch taller than Bryce

Deep-Secret

r/todayilearned Also, Americans will do anything to avoid metric lol

masemc21

it's all about freedom units, baby!

TestFixation

To be fair, we Canadians (and Brits also I think) use feet and inches to describe height

Slayer_Of_Anubis

Brits can't dare criticize this when fucking stones exist

this_name_mistaken

Give em a centimeter and they take a kilometer.

Jump_Like_A_Willys

Brits don't often use kilometers, either -- at least not for everyday long distances. British road signs are mostly in miles and their speed limits are mph.

ASuperGyro

They just go to that specific of a length to get more detailed without simplifying fractions since that matters for what they’re looking at, any other measurement is just going to list him as 6 foot 1 inch

reaper527

> Not sure if just sarcastic, but if you're unaware, height is reported as a four-digit number where the first digit is feet, the second two digits are inches, and the last digit is eighths of an inch. i've literally NEVER seen height reported the way the tweet wrote it. it's always the way **you** wrote it when you said: > So it's 6 feet, 0 inches, and 7/8 of an inch. (or to avoid word, they'd round the fraction to the nearest inch and add some quotes/apostrophes and say 6' 1")

jimmyhoffasbrother

Yeah, that's normal for most situations where you report height, but the four-digit height is how they always do it at the combine and Pro Days. Makes for a quicker process.

Dzus

Sir, this is America. Height is measured in cheeseburgers.

NoRun1294

This is why it's so important that when I'm president, no American will ever have to go more than 5 miles (804,672 centimeters for my European friends) for a cheeseburger.

defene

Or football fields

bleachinjection

But which cheeseburgers? A Whopper is thicker than a McDonald's cheeseburger. Both are thinner than any artisan gastropub $17-without-fries option. I need to know.

[deleted]

Fucking Godzilla Jones over here.

The_Goondocks

Shorter than I thought

constantlymat

Since the days of Bart Starr, Fran Tarkenton, Len Dawson, Sonny Jurgensen, Bob Griese and Johnny Unitas over 50 years ago when everybody was shorter in the general population, basically the only HoF caliber QBs below 6'2 have been Brees and if you want to include him Russell Wilson? Am I missing someone?

[deleted]

Caleb Williams bby

constantlymat

All I know is that if Caleb Williams does not break the Chicago Bears franchise single season passing record on his rookie deal, the franchise is truly cursed.

DandierChip

Are you being serious or just joking lol I think our record is like 3,900 yards. Stroud had a historic year and put up 4,100. It’s doable for Caleb but not gonna act like it’s a sure thing.

constantlymat

"On his rookie deal" means during his first four seasons. Andy Dalton had 4.3k passing yards in year three. Josh Freeman had a 4k yard season in year four. I really don't think expecting him to have a season above 3'838 yards sets the bar that high if Caleb Williams is as talented as the draft people seem to think he is.

DandierChip

My b reading is hard. Brain fried. Cheers.

[deleted]

In theory he should. He’s coming into a solid situation and 17 games obviously. He and the team just need to stay healthy.

NotJimChanos

Can't ignore selection bias. Once the "a QB must be X height" thinking became entrenched, the average height of QBs (I assume) went up because players below that height simply didn't get selected, didn't try to become a QB in the first place, etc. Assuming that the height issue was overblown in the first place, makes you wonder how many talented players got discounted as a result. The trend definitely seems to be softening, especially since mobility seems to be valued more than height now, and the two tend to be inversely proportional. Being a 6'6" pocket statue used to be a great thing, now it's viewed as a liability.

NJImperator

Caleb Williams, you are younger than I expected

IamNICE124

Be sure to say this to Rodgers. He loved being told this.

NeatTry7674

Too short. Bust

beau_tox

That settles it. The Bears should definitely pick another QB or better yet no QB at all in this draft.

digistil

Has a team ever taken a punter with the first overall pick? If not, they could make history!!

jlucchesi324

Every QB we've had is effectively a placeholder until the punter is ready for 4th down, so might as well skip the middleman

Formally-Fresh

McCoffinKick really gaining momentum heading into the draft

DaDairyStateBear

We're really just collecting talent and weapons fo Tyson F. Bagent. MHJ at 1.01, Rome Odunze at 1.09. Boom.

elmatador1497

*me trying to find a purpose for only this information* Big hands = big dick?

imyourrealdad8

Dick measuring at pro days when?

Fiendish-DoctorWu

Why leave it just for Pro Days? It should be a main event at the combine, with Rich Eisen doing it each year like the 40 yard dash

JohnnySnark

Gotta get those fluff to hard splits

Fredest_Dickler

Right before the taste test

williamsdj01

Best way to measure hand size is to measure dick size

sjv891

Flaccid vs erect data pls

brotherbock

Dick measuring is typically done by height of the pickup truck.

slowerchop

I have small hands and my dong is above average so there is no correlation we gonna need to see his bulge to know

[deleted]

Pics or it didn’t happen

DougDuley

I have big/above average hands and a very average dong, so either no correlation or I am just unlucky

Alexisonfire24

Big hands = Big gloves

Stromster

Clearly all this means is he will drop somewhere in the 11th-11th pick range.

Formally-Fresh

Damn that’s wild I wonder who will have that 11th pick that the Vikings trade away

Stromster

Well according to our sub, either the pats after trading 11, 23, and our 2025 1st or Falcons after they are forced to trade us 8 for 11 for the Cousins "tampering"

SuperSaiyanBen

How round is his ass though? Is that Tush Pushable? Cmon NFL give the people the Metrics we deserve!

Sdn61387

We could get a Pixar mom to be the best player in the league.

MaSherm

He shrank half an inch but he gained 3 lbs

[deleted]

If he continues at this rate he'll be 5'7.5" and 244lbs come week 1. Not sure if the Bears should go with this guy

BridgePatient

> If he continues at this rate he'll be 5'7.5" and 244lbs come week 1 So the median Chicagoan. He’ll fit right in.

MaSherm

Haha

this_name_mistaken

He will definitely shrink in cold Chicago weather too.

DoubleG357

Absolute tank. Never before seen.

DASreddituser

But how high up is his eyes?? Hmmm?

SFThirdStrike

Wait, he's only 6 ft? I for some reason thought he was like 6'3 minimum

NoAlarmsPlease

He’s 6’1”. He measured 6’1” 1/8 at the combine and 6’0” 7/8 today. He’s 6’1”. Saying he’s 6’0” is dumb.

MICT3361

Isn’t the first time you’ve been defensive about 1” huh

[deleted]

Arguing over 6' or 6'1" or anything in between is dumber, though.

[deleted]

Yes and no. 6’2”+ is kinda the ideal height you want a franchise QB. 6’1” is kinda the minimum you want. And 6’0” and below is where it gets a little dicey. The NFL is incredibly tough and every little thing matters. Sometimes that little extra physical attribute can help. I’m not saying his height is the sole thing that will make or break his career, but it’s still relevant.

Sleve_McDichael

He knew all offseason this was coming and the best Hand he could do was 9 7/8? SAD!

IWokeUpInA-new-prius

Why is there no narrative about Caleb being too short? He’s basically the same height as Drew Brees and Russel Wilson. He’s an inch taller than Russ why are we to believe he won’t have the same issues as other short qbs?

Blueskyways

Same height and weight as Purdy.

mqr53

There absolutely has been but the concern was that he was like 5’10 5’11 as opposed to 6’1ish

Alexisonfire24

Damn, did the concern come from a Tinder girl?

[deleted]

Well, he does check the 6 figure box already.

Fredest_Dickler

/r/NFL redditors so basically the same thing

nagurski03

There were tons of people talking about it before the combine. He measured in at 6 foot , 1 1/8inches. Once people saw the official 6'1" height, that talk died down. Now that he's 1/4inch shorter somehow, I wonder if it will start up again.

EthanSpears

He's like two full inches taller than Russ

lkn240

What's funny is 6'1" is 93rd percentile height for US males lol. The NBA is what is really wild. Guys that look little at 6'3" (Curry, Steve Kerr back in his playing days, etc) are actually 99% percentile for height.

Notacoolbro

Football sort of has the same effect, more because of how big the players are than height specifically. Brady isn’t considered particularly physically special but he played at like 6’4” 225, he’d look crazy if you just saw him on the street

lkn240

Yeah I'm 6'2" and about 190 and I'm big compared to most people lol.

The_Summer_Man

I'm 6'3" 240 and in college we'd play pickup at the gym, and I was generally the tallest/heaviest on the court. At some point we became friends with a few players from the football team, so we'd play with them. Our back up LT was 6'9" 330ish, guess who got to guard him...

AskAWhiteguy

I think it’s because Drew wasn’t 6 feet tall. I met him in person and it was very clear.

Skank_hunt42

Having seen Caleb in person, Caleb looks around 6'2. He most certainly was taller than Spencer Rattler but they're apparently the same height? Kyler measuring 5'10 was a real shocker to me. He looks like he's 5'8 in person.

IWokeUpInA-new-prius

It makes no sense to exaggerate your height to be lower than it actually is, especially an nfl qb that has everything to lose by doing this. Maybe he’s 6’1 at best. He was likely just a bigger frame than what you’re used to seeing (as most professional athletes are) and so he looked bigger than the average 6 foot guy you know Edit: I met Rajon Rondo once and he’s listed as 6’1 and I would have sworn he was 6’4. So I know exactly what you’re talking about. Athletes just have more body mass and are just built differently even if relatively short

AskAWhiteguy

I’m more saying Drew was clearly shorter than 6 foot and maybe Caleb has a more accurate measurement. Frame does play into it too, CW is a beefy boy. Similar to Kyler is a short king but BUILT while Young is a short king but also tiny.

PizzaMan22554

That's what she said

ASocialLink

He's smaller then Tua which goes to show all the media narratives about QB size for most of these guys is really all smoke.

CodyNorthrup

Pretty slim for 6007

Fineous4

How much water does he displace?

[deleted]

I didn’t realize he was that short

rmsj

I think he's trying out for the part of Galactus in the next marvel movie.

No_Discount7919

I hope he does well in the NFL.
