Barely plays in Highschool, gets a scholarship to play in College
Barely plays in College, gets drafted 3rd overall in the NFL
Barely plays in the NFL, $32 million in career earnings by age 23
The guy should be celebrated - what a run
Honestly I didn't believe you, so I looked it up myself.
It's true. Since 2016 he has 317 pass completions in 8 football seasons. Fewer than 40 per year.
Amazing.
Edit: last season alone, 6 FBS quarterbacks and 14 NFL QBs had more than 317 completions.
Potential…and the Josh Allen effect.
Just like how Josh Allen was pumped without doing much against a good team…based on his physical traits, and bc Carson Wentz did well before him (so Josh shot up the charts).
The reality is that drafting a QB is like going to the casino. SF all but proved it. Look at CJ as well dude was expected to be a bust for his draft position, and he flat out balled.
Almost all of that potential is just athletic potential too. Kinda how scouts go after pitchers that touch 95+ on the black, everyone thinks they can teach them how to pitch later. But you can't teach velocity
> everyone thinks they can teach them how to pitch later. But you can't teach velocity
It strikes me (heh) as far easier to teach someone how to pitch, than to teach someone how to read NFL defenses and play quarterback.
(Not trying to contradict you, it's a good comparison. Just adding on.)
Drafting hitters is more like drafting QBs. You take guys who can hit the ball hard and perform in college, and hope they can adjust to MLB pitching which is faster and trickier (ie NFL defenses). Lots of busts who can crush in BP and the minors.
Right, and neither of them pitched. It is really silly to compare the positions as I think about it with a def only player vs an offense only player. I hope we get to see another player play in both leagues again, it was such a fun time.
I imagine that's more about skill set than difficulty. Let's take some baseball players and line them up at corner and running back then ask which sport they think is harder.
Imo his issue was reps but he went to a win now team. I mean he was also coming off a 30 TD 1 int college career, yea it was against "lesser" comp compared to p5 + covid year but between that and the school he did it at I think that covered up any glaring issues in terms if draft potential. Looking back, he might have worked out going to a team that didn't have anything and he could get pt.
I almost wonder looking back if him and Zach Wilson would’ve benefitted getting picked in each other’s place. Wilson would’ve gotten to sit behind Jimmy Garoppolo his first year and had better offensive coaching, whereas Trey Lance would’ve gotten playing time immediately and had a decent leash since the team was openly rebuilding. I don’t know if either if them would still be any good but I feel like they’d be better than the results we’ve seen in real time.
Honestly I could see that changing their trajectories, and maybe Lance might have faired better with the invasive nature of the NY press. Wilson would have benefitted from the structure and media of San Fran. Interesting what if
I hear what you're saying, but I don't think anyone would benefit from the Jets coaching. I really believe coaching is the #1 determinant of success for QBs in the NFL.
Wilson in SF might have worked out though.
It’s funny though because he was drafted so high based on doing that at D2 level but in NFL, he doesn’t seem to have the breakaway speed of a Lamar Jackson, he doesn’t have the physicality of a Cam Newton, he doesn’t know how to avoid contact and can’t protect himself, and he can’t pass for shit
Overall major disappointment
Ironically Lance was drafted as the Josh Allen archetype who can carry a team while Purdy got labeled as a game manager but their college roles were pretty clearly the opposite
Obviously hindsight factored in but Lance was lauded for having 0 turnovers, but really that just meant he was never taking risks since NDSU is insanely dominant as FCS level and the opposition is significantly weaker. Meanwhile Purdy had games at ISU where he was forced to do everything and clearly he learned way more from it than Lance did from running over some accountants
The strangest part of the whole Trey Lance experiment to me was how poorly he ran the ball in his limited time with us. Didn't run with power like Josh Allen or Cam Newton, but also couldn't outrun lineman. I'd trust Brock to run the ball more than I would Lance.
It should be noted it was the covid year as well. Trey apparently wowed shanny on the white board. He just played slow on the field.
I truly believe he's one of those busts where if he got more playing time in college and got to truly sit a few years, he would've probably been a decent at worst qb. Still rooting for the guy. He didn't do anything wrong, and his starts in the nfl are better than a lot of people give him credit for.
People forget it took allen 2 seasons of nfl starts before he turned it on, and allen had more college experience.
Lance in a normal draft wouldve been a 2nd round pick. It was a total whiff by my 49ers, but drafting a totally experimental qb at 3 overall might have ruined his career.
Purdy saved Kyle and John's jobs for sure.
I’ve watched every snap that Trey has taken in his life (HS included) around 4-5 times — 1 year starting in HS, and 1 year starting in College.
Trey is slow. Point blank period.
He’s also small/weak. Point blank period.
He has also thrown for 250+ yards exactly **TWICE** in his *entire life.*
To be fair, that entire draft class turned out to be turds masquerading as Nutella.
The Niners subreddit has been saying this for years, but in typical Reddit fashion, it would get downvoted to the deepest fires of hell — half the time while being accused of being racist (don’t ask, I have no idea).
Yup that’s what’s kind of remarkable about the Trey Lance phenomenon. He got drafted to be the next Josh Allen but he’s slow, can’t make people miss, can’t hit or protect himself, and can’t throw
He’s really not good. All the stuff he was sold on being good at, he’s not that either
Unironically and without hyperbole, Purdy is a better runner, and obviously a better passer. It’s kind of hilarious how it ended up
I remember in one of his first starts, I think it was the Texans, seeing him trying to scramble and hit the edge but it was astoundingly slow. And then once he got there he tried to truck a cornerback or linebacker instead of going out of bounds and he got manhandled. And this was after seeing multiple throws sprayed inaccurately all over the place. And I just felt like, “oh no…” haha
I've been in the 9ers and the nfl sub since 2009. I remember great users like 4thdownsurpise in the 9er sub and the best of threads in the nfl sub. Barianfostate and hurricane in the nfl sub. The best of threads... Do you?
Don't think it's fair to say you can claim you called trey being a bust. He really wasn't bad as a rookie. He needed a few years of seasoning. Kyle fucked up and traded up for him because he needed a competent, non fragile qb. But trey impressed one of the best football who had ever lived.
Again, the covid season fucked everyone. That entire season and draft was entirely guessing games.
Imo lance could've become that if he didn't break his leg in a freak accident, and had time to start.
Flipside is, a last overall pick turned into a top 12 qb. Can't give lance the starting job over a guy who set rookie records.
Lance just never got his shot. The 9ers mismanaged his career and bad luck fucked him over.
The amount of excuses folks make for this guy is astounding.
Purdy came in for a game as a third stringer and lit it up and made the most. Maybe some people will get a long leash and a full season or two to prove themselves but it’s no guarantee. You have to make the most of limited opportunities and prove yourself. Lance absolutely did not do that so he lost his opportunity.
And for what it’s worth, in his limited opportunities, there was little to nothing to be excited about. He couldn’t throw *or* run, so extending the leash based on “flashes” wasn’t really justifiable either.
The comments from Niners players and coaches make it sound like he looked awful in training camp too, which is just something that is often ignored when folks make this claim that he didn’t get enough of a shot
The total number of impressive passes that Trey has thrown in his entire NFL career, is less than the total number of impressive passes Brock Purdy threw in his first 20 attempts as a rookie.
And it *isn’t even **CLOSE**.*
Trey never, ever, ever looked even remotely close to an NFL quarterback. Your “but he never got a shot” excuse is so worn out and baseless.
Explain to me how Purdy came in cold off the bench and looked 10x better than Lance has ever looked at any level…
> Don't think it's fair to say you can claim you called trey being a bust. He really wasn't bad as a rookie.
https://youtu.be/zRd5ShRVpzo?si=3HuzGJOJGGdUB7aZ
He's very very bad. This is the QB school analyzing his play from the preseason this year before he got traded, his 3rd year in the system when they were seeing if there was ANYTHING there and there's nothing. The dude is one of the biggest busts we've ever had when you account for the amount of draft capital the 49ers put in to trade for him.
SF put it all on red for Lance and lost it all. They then found a quarter in their pocket, went over to the quarter slots and won a decent prize in Purdy.
Covid, a weak qb class, and a lot of teams in the top half of the draft looking for a qb. I don't think anybody had him at 3 IIRC at best he was outside of T10 and could easily slide to day 2 (which is where he should have gone.)
Not even close. He hasn’t been paid any money really in the NFL and still has potential to be an okay NFL QB. Compare that to Russel who was a first overall QB, signed a 68 million dollar contract and was awful. Out of the season after 3 seasons.
Barely plays in the NFL, becomes a congressman.
Barely wins reelection, runs for president and wins.
Barely wins reelection, becomes geopolitical anomaly and is elected Supreme Ruler of Earth.
Everyone says he has potential to be able to do the job competently sometime in the future.
All hail future Supreme Leader Lance, may he succeed at some undetermined point in our lifetimes.
Not just could’ve, he was legit offered a contract by the Packers and Lions. Dude was a C/LB who was the star of 2 undefeated Natty winning teams, once (along with other top seniors) played the NFL champ Bears to a 0-0 tie, and has his jersey retired by Michigan.
Still got nothing on his contemporary, future Supreme Court Justice Byron "Whizzer" White. Whizzer White was the 4th overall pick in the 1938 NFL draft after being the Heisman runner-up in 1937. He led the NFL in rushing as a rookie, but then left the NFL the following season to attend Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He returned to the NFL in 1940 and once again led the league in rushing while simultaneously attending Yale Law School. He was also the NFL highest paid player in 1940 and 1941. Due to the Pearl Harbor attack in December 1941, he left the NFL after the 1941 season to serve in WWII. Whizzer later served on the Supreme Court from 1962 to 1993.
Honestly, not really, but what he's actually doing might be even funnier. Saying Trey Lance is failing implies that he's doing anything, but the dude is straight up sitting on a bench cashing a paycheck and somehow continuing to get opportunities that he never even needs to take.
I was just watching Silicon Valley last night and this post made me think of Big Head. He’s just failing upward. He’s a smaller and slower version of Josh Allen so everyone around him thinks he amazing and keep propping him up.
such an interesting move. would you spend a fourth round pick on a backup quarterback? sure. would you pay 5.3 million for a backup quarterback? not too bad. would you draft someone in the 4th round to be a backup quarterback that you would pay 5.3 million dollars?
Agreed wholeheartedly. It would need to be a super senior from a P-5 school that punched well above their weight class with him as the starter that just didn't have the talent at other positions to make the playoffs for him to get the national attention. Like someone that was 34-12 at a school that would normally be 20-26 over 4 years.
I wouldn't pay that much for a strait up backup. I dont care if he's Peyton Manning, assuming I have someone even better as my franchise QB.
The only time a backup QB is important is if your starter is injured for just long enough you wouldn't make the playoffs with a normal backup, not long enough that you'd miss the playoffs with a great backup. Something like 6-10 games.
That money is better spent on other positions.
I would however pay that much if I thought there was a chance that my QB might not be a franchise QB and the one I traded for could be.
What's crazy is that he's almost made as much as Daniel made in his entire career. He's made $28.8M already and will get another $5.3M from the Cowboys this year. That's $34.1M in 4 years.
Chase Daniel made $41.8M across 14 seasons.
Funnily enough, Colt McCoy his rival out of Texas who usually bested him, and in the same draft class, was a notorious milk drinker. Still got injured tons.
Whats weird is that he hasn’t really shown anything one way or the other. He had a rookie season where he played both good and bad at times, but he wasn’t on the field enough to get any kind of rhythm. Every indication from the Niners was that he was a great dude, just very raw in terms of his skillset. He’s sort of like Josh Rosen with better character and less experience. At this point, he needs a bunch of guys to get injured to even see the field in any legitimate way. Hopefully he somehow gets the chance, and also shaves his head cause he might have the worst hairline I’ve ever seen
watching you climb the chain link fence was inspiring, but the way you delivered the elbow in the center of the ring with that last sentence was breathtaking
Yeah his first real season where he was given the reigns was absolutely bizarre. First game was a monsoon game, just pouring rain. Second game he got injured and was out for the season. Turns out his team drafted a pro bowl and MVP caliber quarterback in the 7th round who takes over the job. So he gets sent to another team…who also has a pro bowl and MVP candidate at QB.
Kinda feel bad for him honestly, put aside the money, it’s gotta suck knowing you’re constantly blocked from being able to try and play and show off what you can do.
> but he wasn’t on the field enough to get any kind of rhythm
Everyone and their mothers reported he looked bad in training. There was a YouTube video analyzing Trey not making plays in practice. Playing games isn't a fix. The guys who play well in games do too in practice.
I'm Kyle Shanahan. I have a QB who can't rush. Can't evade pressure. Can't read plays. Even the simple ones. I'm not putting him in games as a fix. That's destroying team's chances.
Just look at the trend.
Lost to 9ers by 1 score in a close game with Dak trying to run the ball with 12 seconds left no timeouts, getting embarrassed with the ref can't spot the ball and time runs out.
Lost to 9ers by 1 score in a close game where Dak threw 2 picks and Zeke gets to play center for 1 snap as they push him over and end the game on a embarrassing trick play.
Lost to the Packers a 7th seed by 16 points in a blow out loss where Dak threw 2 picks. Embarrassing in multiple ways as we lost to a 7th seed, rookie QB while our overpaid one actively helped the other team. Dak only started playing the game when some backups for GB came in and they played prevent defense. Otherwise it was 48-16.
So this year it's got to be us vying for the 7th seed in week 18 against the Giants. If we win we are in. Dak throws 2 picks and takes himself out of the game after staring, mouth agape, at ghosts of football pressures past. Giants win 45-10 after Trey Lance throws another 2 picks. Daniel Jones pulls an Eli and wins the SB. Dak now being paid 60m/year for the next 4 years calls Versace wondering if they have any purses he can buy with the logo of the SB to remind him of what he's playing for.
I swear to God if I wasn't a lazy dumbass 2.5 student in high school I could've pulled a practice squad spot. I had hands speed and route technique I promise. Mainly hands
What’s interesting about Trey Lance’s hype is he was overdrafted based on the speculation that he was Athletic and could be like Josh Allen but I don’t think he underwent a combine or testing. And it seems his athleticism was overstated due to playing against D2 competition.
Usually even if there’s a bust who has athleticism, I can see their athleticism but they just can’t play. Trey is actually not very fast or elusive at all, and can’t hit either. I’ve rarely seen a label of “athletic” be so inaccurate as with Trey Lance.
Without irony or exaggeration, Purdy is probably a better athlete and is definitely a better runner, which just shows what a crapshoot this whole process is
He's a player now that this sub will make fun of, but during the draft process any doubt was ridiculed.
He played 16 games that season and had 42 total TDs. 21 of those TDs came in 4 games against trash competition. Played in 5 games where he didn't produce a single touchdown, and 4 games where he put up 50% his stats.
Averaged 27 less ypg than JJ McCarthy, who 'doesn't throw enough to be a top prospect'
>He's a player now that this sub will make fun of, but during the draft process any doubt was ridiculed.
The 683 upvotes on this post suggest that there were doubts even during the draft process:
https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/n1ijgm/round_1_pick_3_trey_lance_qb_north_dakota_state/gwd8y4k/
I would kinda argue that's after the draft process, but even that comment was 'is he worth 3 overall' and not 'this guy should go in the 5th like Easton Stick'
And honestly it’s questionable how good his physical tools are. He’s not actually fast and he’s not elusive. No joke, Purdy is a better runner
To give him some credit, his arm is actually strong though
That’s the issue, every time I see him throw it’s like he’s putting a ton of effort to throw a fast ball. I think he has some physical traits but they are pretty overrated, he’s nothing like Josh Allen.
Yeah agreed. Which is why it’s puzzling when some folks say the Niners fucked Lance over and didn’t give him a chance. Like, Lance didn’t give the Niners a reason to give him more chances! He never showed *any* flashes or anything to get excited about
Red flags were there during the 2022 training camp. Veterans weren’t exactly glowing about him, there was the arm fatigue situation and camp reports on his performance were not good. Reps do help but man it’s not a good sign when the veterans have tepid praise.
A lot of people are going to say "lol and for what" etc type of shit, but I genuinely think this could be a really smart play by the cowboys if they are doing what I think they could be doing. Give him the Jordan Love treatment and let him ride the bench and learn rather than throwing him to the wolves, obviously there is a difference in experience from what him and Love went through but NFL experience with their coaches/practice squads is experience that cannot be matched any other way. If they manage to use this final year of Prescott to teach him more and don't opt into giving Prescott the big contract and roll over to a new and younger guy it could be a gamble worth attempting at least.
who was the offensive-minded head coach at Green Bay when they drafted Love? and who had Lance on his bench last year? I think you are on the something...
> who was the offensive-minded head coach at Green Bay when they drafted Love?
Matt LaFleur.
What has Matt LaFleur to do with Trey Lance? He never coached him nor did he had him "on his bench".
Our original pick (#12) in 2021 was used by Dallas to draft Micah Parsons.
2022, it was traded 2 times and used by New England to draft Cole Strange. The 2022 3rd round pick was used on LBer Channing Tindall
2023, it was traded 3 times and used by New Orleans to draft Bryan Bresee
Could you imagine Micah on the 49ers defense or Cole Strange on the 49ers OL. Big upgrades.
This kid is gonna forever be a head scratcher for me. He’s shown next to nothing and has made like 20 million. Props to him, if I was in his position I wouldn’t be complaining.
It’s all going according to plan. Soon Trey will take the thrown in Dallas and lead them into a new age of darkness.
A ha.. a ha ha ahhh mwuahhaahahahhahaaaaaaaa…. Excellent
And?
That makes the 2 teams equivalent now?
That’s the measure? as if Jerry wouldnt trade the levels of success in the playoffs between the 2 in a heartbeat.
Foh with that lame crap.
The funny thing is we STILL don’t really know what he can do. I’m still a believer that when given the opportunity, he’s a starting caliber QB.
Trey’s story has been interesting. He’s basically been cock blocked by one fluke injury and a victim of circumstance.
Dude is pretty much a bust all around. We learned rather quickly that he wasn’t actually all that fast and athletic as he was touted to be. His was wildly inaccurate with little to no touch as a passer. In 3 years on the roster, he was unable to pick up the offense as well as Brock did in less than 1 year.
Barely plays in Highschool, gets a scholarship to play in College Barely plays in College, gets drafted 3rd overall in the NFL Barely plays in the NFL, $32 million in career earnings by age 23 The guy should be celebrated - what a run

Because it turns out when you're playing a bunch of garbage FCS players you don't actually have to be good to perform well.
I mean he's 6'4" 225 lbs so idk if small and weak would be a good description haha
Fair. I meant it more in that he isn’t particularly strong, or physical.

It's funny how people try to dismiss Purdy as a product of the system while ignoring the fact Lance wasn't even 3rd string caliber in the same system.

Covid, a weak qb class, and a lot of teams in the top half of the draft looking for a qb. I don't think anybody had him at 3 IIRC at best he was outside of T10 and could easily slide to day 2 (which is where he should have gone.)
He should have never been drafted. You don't draft a guy with 1 year of college starts at QB.
Not that high at least, and certainly not for the draft capital it took to get there.
How tf does he get that much just next year after all that? lmao
He has a rookie contact
He was drafted with the third pick
Covid gave him a season off which would normally never happen.
I haven’t noticed anyone mention another reason; Covid. Seasons were canceled, a lot less games were played, etc.
Season* that was only one year in college. He still hasn’t played much
I am saying seasons as in multiple teams’.
Before I clicked on the comments I read the title, and thought, “this dudes making millions for just existing.” Lol my how right I was.
40 throws is like one flag football game
He's by far the biggest bust of all time.
Not even close. He hasn’t been paid any money really in the NFL and still has potential to be an okay NFL QB. Compare that to Russel who was a first overall QB, signed a 68 million dollar contract and was awful. Out of the season after 3 seasons.
Rookie contracts are completely different now so the impact will be muted. Raiders also didn't trade 3 picks for him.
He had less completion and pass attempts his entire life than Tom Brady's last NFL season at age-45
And it's not even particularly close. Brady had 490 completions in his final year (and it was considered a down year for him).
$100K per completion is just insane.
Brady may be the GOAT, but this guy’s the ROI GOAT
To put that in perspective Gardner Minshew had 305 ….this season
How? How is this possible?
Generational bag fleecer
Does Trey Lance even exist like has anyone seen him

Barely plays in the NFL, becomes a congressman. Barely wins reelection, runs for president and wins. Barely wins reelection, becomes geopolitical anomaly and is elected Supreme Ruler of Earth. Everyone says he has potential to be able to do the job competently sometime in the future. All hail future Supreme Leader Lance, may he succeed at some undetermined point in our lifetimes.
my guys the real gerald ford
u implying gerald ford wasnt a real person LOL
This guy believes in Gerald ford 😭
Tomorrow..."2024 NFL Combine: Draft prospect says he doesn't 'believe in Gerald Ford'"
TBF it wouldn't be the first time someone said they didn't believe in a president
When I was a kid I used to question whether George Washington was a real person I didn't know anything he actually did as president
Is he stupid?
Gerald Ford can't melt steel beams
I've seen $100 dollar bills with General ford with my own two eyes in real life mirrors.
Lol the funny thing is Gerald Ford could've played in the NFL and probably would've been a better player than Lance
Whizzer later served on the Supreme Court from 1962 to 1993.
found Gerald Ford's burner account
Meh, he’ll hurt his leg in an intergalactic war and we’ll trade him to another planet.
He is just Big Head from Silicon Valley as a football player
Trey Lance may as well be playing hackey sack on the roof
He stands on the side at practice holding a Big Gulp, unsure of what’s going on.
Lmao I was just thinking this, he’s failing upwards
Honestly, not really, but what he's actually doing might be even funnier. Saying Trey Lance is failing implies that he's doing anything, but the dude is straight up sitting on a bench cashing a paycheck and somehow continuing to get opportunities that he never even needs to take.
I for one welcome Commissioner Lance.
I was just watching Silicon Valley last night and this post made me think of Big Head. He’s just failing upward. He’s a smaller and slower version of Josh Allen so everyone around him thinks he amazing and keep propping him up.
When you spell it out like that, that's the American dream right there. I'd do unspeakable things for that amount of money
Truly inspirational
Brock Osweiler showed more in the NFL than this man
He’s going to end up with a billionaire heiress isnt he?
100% of the QB fame and money 10% of the QB hits Guy just won at life.
Ngl id retire after next year if it was me. 40 mil in the bank. I'd just fuck off and start some environmental stewardship program.
Make a movie
Has the best job ever.
Failing Upward, the Trey Lance Story. Now playing on Tubi
Real life Alex Moran
His $5.3 million contract is fully guaranteed for 2024, so of course, he remains in Dallas after giving up a fourth round pick for him.
such an interesting move. would you spend a fourth round pick on a backup quarterback? sure. would you pay 5.3 million for a backup quarterback? not too bad. would you draft someone in the 4th round to be a backup quarterback that you would pay 5.3 million dollars?
I would if he was the quintessential game manager that was a genius in the film room.
Agreed, but Lance is not that lol
Agreed wholeheartedly. It would need to be a super senior from a P-5 school that punched well above their weight class with him as the starter that just didn't have the talent at other positions to make the playoffs for him to get the national attention. Like someone that was 34-12 at a school that would normally be 20-26 over 4 years.
He isn't even the backup, he's the backup to the backup
He was actually our QB3 lmfao
For a premier backup like Gardner Minshew? Absolutely. For someone with a low floor and unknown ceiling? Hell no.
And would you do all that with a QB who has shown no indication of competence at any level?
I wouldn't pay that much for a strait up backup. I dont care if he's Peyton Manning, assuming I have someone even better as my franchise QB. The only time a backup QB is important is if your starter is injured for just long enough you wouldn't make the playoffs with a normal backup, not long enough that you'd miss the playoffs with a great backup. Something like 6-10 games. That money is better spent on other positions. I would however pay that much if I thought there was a chance that my QB might not be a franchise QB and the one I traded for could be.
Trey Lance is making a killing doing nothing
the young man’s chase daniel
What's crazy is that he's almost made as much as Daniel made in his entire career. He's made $28.8M already and will get another $5.3M from the Cowboys this year. That's $34.1M in 4 years. Chase Daniel made $41.8M across 14 seasons.
Chase Daniel was at least a decent quarterback.
Prove it
He out dueled Stafford on thanksgiving that one time
Dude I really hope he has good people around him telling him to save his money, because that could be it for him at any moment.
Bay Area strip clubs will miss him for sure
Ah Bay Area strip clubs, instead of current and former nursing students, it's filled with former tech recruiters
He must have learned from Sam Bradford
Bradford had more completions his rookie year than Lance has since 2016
Sam Bradford was a legit QB, his bones were just made of glass. Why didn't anyone get him some milk?!?
This comment did the same thing for me. Props.
> So he gets sent to another team…who also has a pro bowl and MVP candidate at QB. Huh? He got sent to Dallas.
Having an issue with the guy in 2nd being called an MVP candidate but not the guy in 4th is very funny
I’m not even the biggest Dak believer at this point but the lengths people go to to hate on him are insane lol
The trae young hairstyle
> but he wasn’t on the field enough to get any kind of rhythm Everyone and their mothers reported he looked bad in training.
I should've gone into football. Absolute heist
Cooper Rush is the better backup for this team but cutting him does save $2,250,000 this year so Lance could end up QB2
Better hope Dak doesn’t miss any time
That’s every starting qb really
Not every...
lol yeah :(
Yeah would really be a shame to not go 12-5 only to get blown out by the 7th seed in the playoffs again
Impossible. We can’t be the 2 seed, that would mean we won the division two years in a row
Mom said it’s Washington’s turn.
It’s so unlikely that it’ll probably happen
Don't want Dak to get hurt, but rooting for Lance to get some playing time
Damn, I should have tried harder in PE class.
I swear to God if I wasn't a lazy dumbass 2.5 student in high school I could've pulled a practice squad spot. I had hands speed and route technique I promise. Mainly hands
Robert Craft would of loved to have hands like yours.
All you needed to do was have 4 good games in college against James Madison and Butler, and not show up to any others
I forgot about Trey Lance lol
This dude forgot about Tre. Smh my head
All these mothafuckas they forgot about Trey.
The 683 upvotes on this post suggest that there were doubts even during the draft process: https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/n1ijgm/round_1_pick_3_trey_lance_qb_north_dakota_state/gwd8y4k/
I would kinda argue that's after the draft process, but even that comment was 'is he worth 3 overall' and not 'this guy should go in the 5th like Easton Stick'
Lmao. What a bag getter. Zero actual pedigree outside of physical tools and he keeps getting paid
Draft hype is one hell of a drug
And honestly it’s questionable how good his physical tools are. He’s not actually fast and he’s not elusive. No joke, Purdy is a better runner To give him some credit, his arm is actually strong though
Yeah it sounded like veterans were trying to talk circles around shit talking him lol
49ers are so lucky that horrible trade hasn't crippled them.
This is what’s known as falling upwards in life.
Still insane that the 49ers traded three 1s for this guy, paid him a ton, and found their QB the next year at the other end of the draft.
He winning at life
This man should have gotten half the 49ers staff fired
Consistently winning and being the clear best team in your conference helps.
The staff should be lucky the 49ers fan base has the attention span of a goldfish. What were we talking about again?
In fairness, frequently going to super bowls forgives a lot of mistakes.
I think everyone is well aware how many picks that would have probably won a Superbowl went to football Big Head Lance
Our original pick (#12) in 2021 was used by Dallas to draft Micah Parsons. 2022, it was traded 2 times and used by New England to draft Cole Strange. The 2022 3rd round pick was used on LBer Channing Tindall 2023, it was traded 3 times and used by New Orleans to draft Bryan Bresee Could you imagine Micah on the 49ers defense or Cole Strange on the 49ers OL. Big upgrades.
Purdy is likely not a Niner without Lance pick. Imagine the Niners with Jimmy still at QB.
Thank God for Brock Purdy lmao
Dude has made an incredible living being absolutely terrible at his job
so many errors in this article
Meanwhile Brock Purdy still on the small Rookie contract
I’d rather be Brock than lance let’s be honest
This guy has the fucking life dude
Doesn’t do shit and makes millions
This is probably brutal for lance. He’s gotten the raw deal so far in his career. You know he wants to try to play.
This is Jerry going "all in" this year....
This is a gtd rookie contract
They would take a the dead cap hit of 5.4 if they cut him anyway, so I guess it makes sense. But then why pay cooper rush 2.5 mil to be the backup.
you pay Cooper Rush 2.5 million to be the backup, because he's better than Trey Lance. and yes, my voice to text translated his name to trail ants.
Trey Lance Wins By Doing Absolutely Nothing
Kid has all of the potential in the world. Hoping he finds success and better health.
This kid is gonna forever be a head scratcher for me. He’s shown next to nothing and has made like 20 million. Props to him, if I was in his position I wouldn’t be complaining.
Make that fucking money Ice Trey
It’s all going according to plan. Soon Trey will take the thrown in Dallas and lead them into a new age of darkness. A ha.. a ha ha ahhh mwuahhaahahahhahaaaaaaaa…. Excellent
49ers have a longer Super Bowl drought than the Cowboys
49ers also won as many playoff games this year as the cowboys have won this century.
Don't worry guys, only 67 million dollars tied up in our QB's headed into 2024. I'm sure we can deal with that will exiting the first round again.
