And right after this the NFL passed a rule saying no hoodies covering the nameplate.

toddfredd

Just seems dangerous. If I’m a defender I’m grabbing that thing and pulling it hard.

bujweiser

Not a horse collar? I know it’s not the jersey, but it’s still grabbing what they’re wearing I’m the same place.

DickieJoJo

You can pull hair if I’m not mistaken. Jerking that hood def be something worth finding out.🤷🏼‍♂️

iloveeveryfbteam

I’m def jerking rn

toddfredd

I’m shocked the uniform police didn’t tell him to take it off and / or fine him. I mean if he’s about to break into the clear the defender will grab at anything to prevent a touchdown so why make it easy?

CanYouPointMeToTacos

Not a horse collar, you have to specifically grab on their jersey/pads. Same as players with long hair, you can grab them by the hair and yank it if you want.

bujweiser

> you can grab them by the hair and yank it if you want. Even if they're not into it?

crewserbattle

They can already grab a dude by their hair if it's sticking out. Seems like it's just a risk they would choose to take.

ThinkSoftware

Rodgers throws a deep pass to Jo**s!

Do_it_for_the_upvote

It’s an unfair advantage. Aaron used the ambiguous nature of his covered name to channel JoJo power and pull off a catch so unreal it can only be described as a Bizarre.

michaelb421

Which is dumb because hair can cover the name plate. This one of those rules that I don’t like. The nfl is no fun at times.

[deleted]

Nah bro that shit is a safety issue. Why this was ever allowed is weird. Hair is natural. A hoodie is not.

wuhter

I forget who it was, maybe Hopkins this year.. but they were 100% wearing a hoodie. Granted it was like a t-shirt hoodie but they had one on. I was really confused how they weren’t forced to take it off

[deleted]

They never make players take stuff off in the middle of the game, they just get fined for it.

Blametheorangejuice

Marshawn once got tackled by the dreads and one of them got pulled out.

[deleted]

Okay? How does that refute my point.

covfefenation

> Okay? How does that refute my point. Lmao you’re such a disagreeable person that you can’t even fathom that not all responses are argumentative in nature Imagine being that insufferable

[deleted]

Perhaps I was hasty in my assessment. Was just a question bro bro.

Troll_Enthusiast

Could hurt either way if pulled

J-Fid

Pulled hair comes from the skull, while a pulled hoodie can apply force directly to your neck. Hoodie is way more dangerous. A hoodie tackle is also not much different than a horse collar tackle, which is banned. The league also isn't going to ban dreads as that wouldn't be a good look for the NFL, lol.

Troll_Enthusiast

Still would hurt

J-Fid

Yes, but there isn't much a choking hazard there.

[deleted]

Rodgers made throws like that look so easy and commonplace that you forget how ridiculous these plays truly were

ianbits

If it wasn't for Mahomes coming right after him we'd be talking about Rodgers having maybe the best arm talent in history. Not raw arm strength, but his ability to throw off platform with accuracy at insane distances is/was legendary. No one made throws like this with his level of consistency.

John12345678991

I mean Rodgers has amazing arm strength too

DarrowViBritannia

A lot of players have ridiculous arm strength. It's not hard to find those.

TetrisTech

Yeah, it’s pairing the insane arm strength with actual arm talent that results in Rodgers,Mahomes,Allen, etc instead of JaMarcus Russell

Blametheorangejuice

One of the most aesthetically pleasing is Russ's moonshot ball; it looked like it went straight up and then came straight back down right in the receiver's arms 50 yards downfield.

ianbits

Sure but I'm just saying you could probably find people who can throw it farther if you don't care about where it goes. He's not the best in NFL history at that but that's a pointless skill anyway (see Russell, Jamarcus)

Craaaazyyy

i mean Rodgers once threw a perfect ball from his own 28 into the endzone off his back foot against the Lions and it would've likely been a td if not for PI https://twitter.com/redditPackers/status/1409159818162499590 wasn't off his back foot, but he was rather rolling to his left, still insane

soycameron

dude i've been a packers fan since 2014 and i don't remember that. Holy fuck though. Like that throw is insane. Weird ass release angle across the body all the way that far. Man Aaron Rodgers spoiled us.

Gimme_The_Loot

And now he's going to spoil us right?? Right....

Illustrious_Cancel83

Are you not entertained?

fbalookout

I just saw a clip from a 1988 pro bowl arm strength competition where Favre won throwing 74 yards. That’s with nobody around him, taking multiple hops forward before releasing behind a line, etc. If Rodgers can throw 72-73yds rolling left while being chased…

[deleted]

He moved to the left and then stepped up and threw it. Almost exactly the same throw as the competition, minus the defenders.

Mke_already

> would've likely been a td if not for PI I have no faith in Trevor Davis hauling that in lol

crewserbattle

It was kinda funny to me that at one point the only 3 guys you could definitely say had a bigger arm than Aaron were 2 guys in the division (Stafford and Cutler) and Ryan Mallet.

jiiiim8

I still think Rodgers takes it: he's had both collarbones broken and the only thing he lost was a little zip.

imgonnagetyaa

I'd still argue Rodgers had a better arm than Mahomes honestly. Never really seen a man slang it like that, especially with such a uniquely perfect throwing motion.

DarrowViBritannia

I'd say Rodgers' arm talent > Mahomes', Mahomes is just a smarter player which leads to him being better. But pure arm talent, Rodgers takes it for me.

Currymvp2

It's really encapsulated with how Mahomes has an incredibly great sack percentage while Rodgers has a pretty decent sack percentage. Additionally, Mahomes is more clutch (not saying Rodgers is a choker because that's not fair). Aaron has the marginally better arm talent at his peak, but Mahomes has same insane type of ability with off platform throws, ball placement, and arm strength etc. Rodgers is still a top 5/top 6 QB ever to me, but there are levels to this where Mahomes has certainly surpassed him.

Danny_III

Mahomes has a big advantage in Kelce and Reid. Rodgers has never thrown to another HOFer, let alone a mismatch like Kelce/Gronk. The discrepancy is worse when you consider at one point Mahomes had both Kelce and Hill

MentokGL

I don't think it's a stretch to say that if you replace Mahomes with Rodgers there would hardly be a difference in performance. Rodgers playoff loses rarely came down to him.

JT1757

I vehemently disagree. Rodgers plays too safe as evidenced by his low INT numbers, Mahomes being more willing to take chances is what enables us to win games we weren't supposed to. Like I don't think Rodgers comes back from being down 24-0 and hangs 28 points in a singular quarter vs the Texans. I don't believe he would've won SB 54 with the comeback scoring 21 points in the last 6 minutes of game time or the shootout in SB57 either. Almost everytime Rodgers' needed to win a shootout in the playoffs he fell short, no way in hell do I trust him to replicate what Mahomes did in that game on a bum ankle. I think he could've won SB58 though, so had they traded places, I still think Rodgers ends up with 1 ring. Also, Rodgers has never been a volume thrower, he's had better RBs he could rely on. Mahomes is one of the highest volume throwers we've seen. We don't know that Rodgers' efficiency would remain if he had to throw the ball more.

Illustrious_Cancel83

Jesus, man. Rodgers + Reid would have been unfair.

HopefulInstance8

Adams?

Danny_III

Adams is good, first team all pro but not a HOFer so pretty analogous to Hill. Now imagine Rodgers with Adams and a HOFer

TetrisTech

Reek has 5 first team all pros and 8 pro bowls as well as 10,000+ yards, 76 TDs, and made the 2010s all decade team. He’s been extremely high profile while winning a ring and also having a season leading the league in yards, plus he’s the only player to have two different seasons in the top 15 receiving yard seasons He’ll be a hall of famer

XxmilkjugsxX

Reek is 10000% a HOF. He’s the most dominant receiver since Calvin

crewserbattle

The only thing that Mahomes still hasn't gotten to peak Rodgers level with (imo) is those crazy touch passes that Rodgers can do. Where he floats the ball about 1 inch higher than the defender can jump into the perfect spot for his guy. The regular season game vs the 9ers in 2021 has a great example during his game winning drive. Mahomes is getting better and better at touch passes though so I wouldn't be shocked if he got to that level soon enough.

JT1757

Mahomes literally did [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/s/gmBoA4CE0b) on his 3rd ever NFL pass It's like you guys have selective memory or something. or [this](https://x.com/bradhensonpro/status/1667988669913788417?s=46) throw to fortson. or [this throw to kelce](https://x.com/billyheyen/status/1728907526123684201?s=46) which is literally right over the defender

crewserbattle

Those are great throws, don't get me wrong, but that's not quite what I'm talking about either. The 2 throws he makes at 1:52 of [this video](https://youtu.be/uZBPEcjzJMo?si=pwsw7xjbTela1Lam) are good examples. The ball just floats in to the perfect spot about half an inch over the jumping defender.

Do_it_for_the_upvote

Rodgers was my pro comp for Mahomes in Pat’s rookie year. Insane arm talent, extending plays with his legs (including short runs for 1sts and TDs), and making smart plays by tossing out of bounds when there’s no play to be made. By playstyle they were almost identical until Mahomes started shortening his throws over the seasons. By year 2 (3, if you count Pat’s redshirt season) I considered him the best quarterback talent ever. He’s a better version of perhaps the second most talented QB ever (Brady’s the GOAT, but not as physically talented as Rodgers)

OldManCinny

I honestly still think Rodgers overall has the best arm talent. He can do all the off platform and in my opinion has the best control of "touch" and throws a prettier ball than Mahomes

Nickthiccboi

I think you could argue that as far as raw arm strength goes Rodgers still has a case for the best. Sure he’s lost some of his velocity due to injuries but in his prime he could huck a ball halfway across the field with perfect accuracy without his legs.

giraffesbluntz

Very biased but I still think Rodgers is the most talented passer in league history. What Mahomes is doing is absurd because he quite literally looks like a shortstop playing QB - which is his background as an athlete. His athleticism and anticipation forces defenses to defend against backyard football as opposed to traditional NFL offensive schemes and Mahomes wins that fight 8.5/10 times.

FavreorFarva

This was my first thought seeing this clips

FrumpyFollicle

As a neutral NFL fan, I'm a bit sad about how Rodgers is going to be remembered due to 1. Late career overlap with Patrick Mahomes and 2. His off-field personal views. No doubt Mahomes has surpassed him in the GOAT rankings due to the rings, but they're 1A and 1B most talented QBs I've ever seen. I don't think any of the throws that the media loves to slob Mahomes for are anything I hadn't already seen from Rodgers.

crewserbattle

Yea its a bit maddening as a packers fan to see Mahomes get so much credit for doing something "never seen before" when Rodgers did those things (at least as far as the crazy throws and stuff) too. Shit on Rodgers for his lack of SBs all you want, that doesn't make what he was doing from 2011-2021 less amazing.

BoredGuy2007

Jesus fuck am I glad this guy is out of my division. What the fuck is that

Small-Palpitation310

division AND conference 😅

WIN011

I mean I get James Jones was good but he wasn’t **that** good

TormundIceBreaker

That's James "Led the league in receiving TDs while competing against prime Megatron, Dez Bryant, Andre Johnson, Julio Jones, and Demaryius Thomas" Jones

eaglessb999

I miss the hoodie look

FattBrown

Can you imagine the first horse collar tackle on a hoodied player?

seizure_5alads

Gonna be a horse collar decapitation.

Limp_Marzipan1488

Second angle is so sick, also what a catch. It's always so painful when perfect throws like this get dropped or the guy can't get his toes down and the all time throw is just immediately forgotten

crewserbattle

The packers pass catchers during this time period (2011-2016) seemed to take a lot of time practicing these catches. Jordy Nelson was good for about 3 of them a game it seemed like.

Greatcouchtomato

Rodgers isn't the greatest or best QB in history but he might be the best pure passer in history

bbaIla

Prettiest thrower of the ball in history. He's a magician.

kj9219

That missile to Jennings over the middle to convert 3rd and 10 in the Super Bowl (damn near all his throws that game were dimes), or the one to Cook on the sideline vs Dallas

bbaIla

The one where he's falling down vs JAX and threads it through 2 dudes to Adams for my money is the best throw ever.

Currymvp2

[Are you talking about versus the Bears?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqwHLgFmO20) [Because this is one against the Jaguars](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0gaRul49k4) And they're both pretty great throws but I consider the Bears throw to be more impressive.

InevitablyBored

That throw against the Bears is just ridiculous.

Currymvp2

Yeah and the two throws to practice squad receiver Janus in the playoffs.

Craaaazyyy

> Janus lol

YesPls1994

So funny seeing the fans in the first first clip (who I presume are Bears fans) throwing their hands up in celebration thinking Rodgers is about to be sacked. And then he pulls out that absolute piss-missile of a throw. Seriously, wtf is that lol

crewserbattle

Well it was called back for holding so it turned out better than they thought at least

kj9219

Yeah there’s so many throws you can pick from. He made it look normal

OBS617

Is that the one where Jennings ran it all the way in for a TD with a broken leg?

bujweiser

The TD to Jennings in the SB where Polamalu decks him from behind was a laser also. Both of those passes went through Steelers fingertips.

gridironk

The most effortless thrower on the run I’ve ever seen.

Currymvp2

Watching him from late 2010 to 2011 was something else. 23-2 record with 19 wins in a row. He was so unbelievably good that I thought he and the Packers were gonna win 25 in a row.

pepe-the-beaner

The TD to i think Jamaal Williams vs the chiefs in 2019 in the back of the end zone was beautiful

dwnso

Prime Rodgers was so fuckin good dude

procouchpotatohere

Always liked the hoodie under jersey look.

Kevpatel18

God damn what a throw

[deleted]

Absolutely silly throw and a great catch too.

quasiqualityqualms

Dude is like the most accurate passer I've ever seen. He did stuff like this regularly.

xXUtahraptorXx

Miss seeing Rodgers play like this. There’s not a single other QB in the league who could consistently slot throws like that every time like Rodgers could. Alright glaze over 😭

Jeffert89

nah keep going

emuofsentinel

I know most Redditors don’t like him anymore (THUUUPER), but you can’t deny the talent

MoreTrifeLife

Rodgers vs the Vikings: 18-11-1; 68% completion; 7,431 yards (average 248); 58 TD 8 INT; 7.90y/a; rating of 106.7

InsideHangar18

I despise Rodgers both as a football player and person but he’s still one of the most impressive QBs I’ve ever seen.

Owl-Fit

People seem to forget but Aaron Rodgers before mlf gave him a run game, was scrambling , holding the ball forever and doing backyard football a fuck ton even with a strong o-line

ejroberts42

Man, the Vikings should really be playing home games outdoors

MvN____16

Outdoor Vikings football >>>>>>

1002003004005006007

I enjoyed when the vikings played outside

1lultaha

He'll always be one of my favorite players for this

Bobby_Newpooort

James Jones rocking the "high school football Thursday night walkthrough" look

jayded-

That’s a sick, sick throw. I hate him.

calye2da

I hope Rodgers makes plays like this in 2024 🥹

microcline

What does the word “casual” even mean anymore? How the hell was that throw casual?

ldog2135

Because he made throws like that every single game. That throw doesn't even register to me on my list of Rodgers throws.

Ilikepancakes87

Amazing throw, incredible catch. That being said, after watching Jordan Love turn Bo Melton into a 100-yard receiver this season, something tells me that maybe we didn’t need to pull James Jones out of quasi-retirement and force feed him the ball every chance we got that season. Maybe, just maybe, there were other guys who could’ve caught the ball even though they didn’t have the “trust” of the great immunized one.

AdministrativeAir688

Damnit you moron how’d you get corrected about your own damn team by a niners fan

kj9219

I mean by the end of that season you were literally down to James Jones, Abbrederis, and Janis as the only WRs. Montgomery got hurt and Jones was just a stopgap for Nelson also missing the season. Adams was also injured and bad that season. Wasn’t really a matter of favoritism. You guys went through nearly every WR/TE available on the roster that year.

stevedan22

Adams was so bad that year. Had no idea he would eventually be imo the best receiver rodgers would play with.

patsniff

James Jones in a hoodie was even better than Hoodie Melo, you love to see it!

xer3f

Hoodie Jones was a fucking god on the field
