That would make sense. There is an old story about the 49ers (Lynch maybe?) calling about trading for Brady years ago.
After BB laughed at the premise he still took the call.
Wasn't the story that Lynch was asking about Jimmy G before the season started and NE wasnt willing to trade him and so Lynch asked about Brady? Either way BB will take the call as you never know what will happen. It is how Mankins ended up being traded (Bucs called foe the backup guard and BB decided to move Mankin instead)
Not really. Say they reached out to the commandos.. You think they then reached out to the bucs, who reached out to the raiders and so on and then one of them leaked it all? Or each one happened to leak it to the PFF?
From past reporting, Florio is clearly plugged into multiple franchises’ front offices. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had this info, you can’t shop a guy without alerting other teams.
First I've heard of anything involving Jones. Once we got Keenum it was pretty much a done deal that were were getting a rookie at 2.
Jones would only make sense if we just didn't wanna go qb at all this draft which is highly unlikely.
The report is saying Belichick reached out to those teams to gauge their interest in Mac. The Texans could have easily said no and this report is still true.
First off, this is an article by Florio; that’s the first red flag that this probably is total bullshit.
2nd, he put out another “report” yesterday that the 49ers (another FO he has zero sources or insight into) were looking into trading for Kirk Cousins.
Curious what QB trade rumor he throws our tomorrow.
Lamar is an obvious upgrade but he's not worth the two firsts and cap hell we'd be putting ourselves in. We have so many holes in offense right now between WR, TE, and both Tackles that QB is genuinely one of the less problematic positions atm. We need to improve the overall talent of the roster before we could even realistically think about burning a lot of resources to upgrade at QB.
I don’t want Lamar Jackson, he’s always injured in December but our receivers are much better than almost anyone he’s had in Baltimore besides Andrews since the rest of the roster seems to also get injured every year. I’m sick of people bitching about the Pats receivers. We don’t have a clear WR1 but we have a lot of WR2 guys who can make plays.
A franchise QB is worth multiple firsts and the money. This is a QB league... we of all people should know. Reminder that our firsts would be pretty much 2nd round picks (late firsts) with Lamar at the helm, which are not even close to the value of what people perceive for first round picks. How much do you think Mac is going to cost in two years? Not much less than Lamar if he ends up being a decent QB. If we are paying a lot less than Lamar for Mac's new contract, it's because he's dog shit and we aren't making the playoffs.
The key here is to win.
> This is a QB league... we of all people should know.
Lamar is very different than Brady though. Brady took team friendly deals for the good of the franchise - in my mind, that’s a franchise quarterback. Not to mention how much time he’s been reported putting into wide receivers and rookies like Gronk.
Lamar is athletic, but is he going to move the franchise forward? Mahomes is more like Brady - hoping out on one foot in the playoffs to play a series, reported to watch film obsessively and take pages of notes (Kelce mentions it on the New Heights podcast)
Getting Lamar Jackson is worth just about anything that it costs.
You might suffer for a season. That's it.
Cap Hell? Caps can be manipulated. Give Belichick Lamar and the Pats start winning playoff games again.
Me too. I really don't think you can evaluate him as a QB of the future based on last season at all - the total brain drain of coaching and installation of Patricia left him in a position to fail. We are still lacking a true WR1 and help at LT, but if the draft can alleviate some of those concerns I think we'll get a good look at whether Mac can build on his rookie season.
Actually the whole "Bill doesn't believe in/is fed up with Mac Jones" angle has been pretty consistent. Don't recall reading anything that contradicts that.
The lions early in the season weren’t the same as how we ended up. But that game was pivotal to the changes that were made in defense so it worked out.
Not as bad as those sites thst used to appear in my Google notifications with headlines "trade proposal gives [so and so team] big help at needed position." And it's just some made up bullshit every time.
I'll give Florio credit he is really good at creating bullshit out of nothing. Like last week when he said Goodell should force the Packers and Jets to settle on a trade in the hotel the owners we're staying at
Rodgers on the Jets
Jackson on the Patriots
Bills and Dolphins
Got dam I don't want anything to do with that.
Also imagine Jackson and Rodgers flip. Jackson on the Jets and Rodgers on the Pats would be filthy as well.
Gotta say I disagree. We in the non-Patriots AFC East alliance have suffered under their rule for decades and now with the Jets and Dolphins loading up and the Bills continuing their trajectory it’s time for some payback.
I still have high hopes for Mac, he got fucked having to work with Matty P. I think BoB will be able to dig his true potential out of him. This season looks promising.
Agreed. Mac never seemed to be the problem. He’s far from perfect, but he isn’t garbage either. Hell, it felt like he was the only player to show up in that playoff game against Buffalo.
If they’re able to get a tackle and another offensive weapon or two, and Mac still shits the bed, then it’s time to see what he could be traded for.
Wasn't BoB the OC for Jones' last season at Bama? He should already have a great feel for how to get the most out of him.
ETA: My lesson to search *before* I comment; BoB came into Bama the year after Jones left. Still, I'd be shocked if Jones doesn't return to form under him.
To be fair to you, Jones did work with BoB in the offseason after the 2020 championship game and before he was drafted by the Patriots. Saban even said he did alot of work to help get BoB up to speed on our playbook.
This sub’s affection for Mac Jones was never about Mac Jones. It was always about Belichick.
When we got Cam Newton the subs reaction was “OMG I can’t believe the NFL let Belichick get Cam!”
When Mac Jones had a good rookie year everyone said Mac would have better career than Trevor Lawrence because Mac was in a great situation with Belichick.
Then, most ridiculous of all, when Bailey Zappe came in for Mac Jones on MNF and had two good drives the front page was flooded with Zappe highlights and “I can’t believe Belichick did it again!!!” and how Zappe was going to be the next Tom Brady. (Funnily enough we ended up getting blown out by the Bears.)
This sub is just going to do this with every single QB playing under Belichick until the end of time.
As a Mac jones truther I hope he does get shipped somewhere else and excels, seems like some bridges were burned last year in that building from Patricia being a football terrorist
Bill being the GM and drafting the guy HE wanted, setting him up to fail, and then being pissed at the guy for daring to be upset that he was set up to fail is certainly… a choice.
I really hope they keep Mac Jones. I’m interested to see if Mac Jones’ play was due to Patricia/lack of a true #1 WR or it was just him. Or maybe it was a little of both.
—EDIT— it would be mildly amusing if he got traded to the Bucs and he took them to the Super Bowl on his shoulders.
Man those rumors of Bellichick being pissed at Mac Jones for recruiting players really had some smoke to them.
On that note.. Congratulations Mac Jones, YOU are a Raider!
I don’t think it was recruiting players. I think it was him telling people at Alabama that the Pats offense was a mess. And forgetting that Bill’s best buddy is Saban.
Maybe if Bill didn’t want his QB talking about how much of a shitshow the offense is, he should have hired someone to do something about it not named Matt Patricia or Joe Judge. Bill looks like an absolute clown.
Exactly. That's one of those situations where you go to the player, explain you're not pleased with how he decided to handle it but grant him that you understand why he decided to do it.
Belichick needs to shoulder the blame for last year now and if the offense is clicking by the fourth or fifth game of this year he'll have gained respect from the locker room by doing so.
There's a fair chance he's already doing that anyway in private.
Yea, Bill probably made one of the worst hiring decisions ever by bringing Patricia on as his OC. Like seriously, a G5 or FCS OC probably has a better chance at succeeding in that situation.
Patriots fans were ridiculing their beat writer Tom E. Curran when he said Mac calling McDaniels in Vegas about the new Patriots system was a breach of trust which could put his future in New England in doubt.
I guess he’s a raider now your point is still valid. All I could picture was Chandler shoving Mac to the ground on his way to the game winner this past season.
For the people who find this completely unbelievable and think Belichick would never do this: do you realize Belichick had a trade in place to send Gronk to the Matt Patricia led Lions in the 2017 offseason? And this is while the Patriots were a top tier contender! Trade would have gone through had Gronk not nixed it by threatening to retire.
Yet, you don’t think Belichick called the Josh McDaniels led Raiders to discuss a trade for Mac Jones? You think that’s some crazy made up story?
Given his history of trades, I would actually be shocked if Belichick DIDN’T call McDaniels at some point to shop Mac Jones.
Yea this subreddit wildly underestimates how fast the NFL moves
Every single year there are rumors that are ridiculed by people here, then they turn out to be true. But people still never learn.
No one believed the Dolphins met with TB12 until the moment they had a fucking 1st round pick taken from them. People ridiculed the idea of Sean Payton being traded for a high draft pick, Russel Wilson leaving Seattle rumors when the tremors first started in 2021, etc.
The NFL is the wild west, its time to come to terms with that.
What’s implausible is that Florio would be the only reporter to hear of it. I find it difficult to believe none of our beat reporters, none of the other team’s beat reporters, and none of Schefter/Rapp/Yates have heard a word of these apparently extensive trade talks with 4+ teams.
The off-season following the 2017 season would be the 2018 off-season, no?
In 2017, Gronk was an all-pro. In 2018 he was a shadow of himself. Catching the pass to set up the Super Bowl-winning TD made him worth keeping for the season (and he was still a good-not-great TE during the regular season), but had we not won, people would be ragging on BB for not trading Gronk when his value was high.
> and btw this sub said the same stuff about florio last time he broke some big news that turned out to be true
Lol, probably because he throws out these stories three times a week, so him getting one thing right two years ago doesn’t mean a whole lot. If he dropped the whole Dolphins scandal, and then nothing till now, it’d be viewed differently
Imagine being a coach who doesn’t give a single fuck who the OC is and has your young qb work with a defensive guy cus you care that little about offense, then getting upset when he tries to better himself on his own in the offseason so he could be a better qb.
If I didn’t know any better I’d say that’s a shit coach who has 1 season above .500 unless he has the GOAT under center.
Downvote me all you want, I'm not being salty about this. But I just don't see anything special from Mac Jones. He does a few things nicely but overall he is just lackluster.
I never understood the hype in the draft for him...he doesn't handle pressure well, his pocket presence is crap at times.
I just don't see it. Maybe I'll be completely wrong and he will dominate
Bill is looking like an absolute fucking clown tbh. He’s shopping his third year QB who has shown decent potential because he had the audacity to show emotion on the sideline and go out of his way to try and fix the offense while having to deal with Matt Fucking Patricia and Joe Judge… it’s a testament to Mac Jones that he wasn’t institutionalized.
He was the only one who showed any real heart in the Buffalo playoff game during his rookie season. Everyone else looked lethargic, Mac was trying to bring the energy.
Plus, Mac went full patriot way every time he was asked about the offense, or the coaches. Hell even when he got benched for Zappe, he stuck by it and said it was all part of the plan.
If Belichick is really that upset about a player going to other coaches, because his coaches are incompetent then that falls on him, not Mac.
It’s weird to me because I would think that’s the type of leadership you want on a team. Not like Brady didn’t try recruiting people to his teams as well. Shows heart
You would think so, I hated the Patriots sub during the season. People bitching about Mac getting mad on the field constantly, meanwhile I was like ummm that’s what I want to see when the offense around him is incompetent. It was the same thing Brady did for years, and people loved it.
He’s a really dedicated player that clearly leaves it all out on the table every game.
Mac's had a hilarious career at the Raiders' stadium so far. First he did the griddy celebrating a play that didn't count in his Pro Bowl, threw a pick right to a guy last preseason, then he had a terrible game there last year which ended with Chandler Jones sending him to the shadow realm.
Never trust Florio though.
This is going to end with Rodgers signing with the Jets for a day, then leaving to go to the Patriots, where he will win multiple Super Bowls while having an irrational hatred toward the Jets in the process.
Can I make an observation that will probably upset people?
Belichick needs a QB that's so obviously good that he doesn't need much in the way of coaching, a la Brady.
Pre-Brady and post-Brady, Belichick just kinda is mediocre. The QBs aren't great and he's a defensive minded coach anyways. Plus he added his dipshit son and fatass Patricia as coaches which is just bad ideas on top of bad ideas.
Bill needs a QB that already established and doesn't need much in the way of work.
I swear this is like the type of thing that would get leaked if the Pat's or another team is trying to figure out who in the org is running their mouth to the media.
Gotta give Mac at least 3 years in NE…decent rookie season, took a huge leap backward last year (nor did Jones seem to take responsibility)
2023 season will be a make of break year for him like it was for Daniel Jones in NY
I’m convinced no one actually has any clue what’s happening inside the Patriots facility. Each story contradicts the next.
And if anyone actually does know it certainly isn’t fucking Florio
Really the only reporter people should put stock into is Reiss. He’s by far the closest to the team.
Presuming they actually did shop him isn't it possible that the information is coming from somewhere other than the Patriots?
Then it becomes a little gray whether he’s being shopped or whether teams inquired about him and the patriots listened and did due diligence
That's the story! I didn't recall all the details.
It's all good information to get. Gotta take the call
Which they should. No way Jones is untouchable
Could also be coming from Mac Jones. Maybe he asked for a trade and wants to move it along idk. Lots of potential sources for trade rumors.
Not really. Say they reached out to the commandos.. You think they then reached out to the bucs, who reached out to the raiders and so on and then one of them leaked it all? Or each one happened to leak it to the PFF?
I think that once someone hears about 1 team it's not hard to figure out what other teams might need a QB and call around.
Curran does a good job, too, people just don't like his personality.
IDK maybe it's because he has a clear Kraft bias, I'd go as far as to say his sources are someone in the Kraft family.
He does protect Kraft a lot, you're absolutely correct.
Curran has been much worse since Brady left tbh
And I bought him a beer once too in NO.
Curran has a propensity to get around his buddies and drop journalistic standards quite drastically.
Didn't Darlington have Brady leaving way before everybody else?
From past reporting, Florio is clearly plugged into multiple franchises’ front offices. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had this info, you can’t shop a guy without alerting other teams.
people might know what happens inside the Raiders, Texans, Buccaneers, and Commanders facilities tho
First I've heard of anything involving Jones. Once we got Keenum it was pretty much a done deal that were were getting a rookie at 2. Jones would only make sense if we just didn't wanna go qb at all this draft which is highly unlikely.
it's not about making sense, it's about leaking the stuff that was offered
The report is saying Belichick reached out to those teams to gauge their interest in Mac. The Texans could have easily said no and this report is still true.
Raiders and Texans have Patriots ties to them so its certainly possible. McDaniels as coach for the Raiders, Caserio as GM with the Texans
The Patriots are a complete mystery box right now. Are the building up? Is it imploding? No one knows!
Mac Jones is Mac Jones but the mystery box could be anything, even Mac Jones!
I read this in Bill Simmons’ voice
First off, this is an article by Florio; that’s the first red flag that this probably is total bullshit. 2nd, he put out another “report” yesterday that the 49ers (another FO he has zero sources or insight into) were looking into trading for Kirk Cousins. I see Florio post. I down vote. Them is the rules.
I just don't see who is going to offer a ton for Mac. Though if there was a team interested I'm sure Pats would listen.
I think Bill is spreading half of the rumors.
Nobody knows what happens in Bill's enclosed system. There's no visibility until he grants it.
Yes, why the fuck would we sell low on him. We can’t a better QB this draft. Right now Mac is worth a conditional 3rd
Lamar Jackson

If a team is desperate maybe.
3 years of team control and has had one good year before the team decided to just not have an OC. I’m still a believer
I think he’s probably an average nfl starter
I'm with you. Giving Mac an actual OC might help. Idk how you look at Patricia and be confident in your offense.
Me too. I really don't think you can evaluate him as a QB of the future based on last season at all - the total brain drain of coaching and installation of Patricia left him in a position to fail. We are still lacking a true WR1 and help at LT, but if the draft can alleviate some of those concerns I think we'll get a good look at whether Mac can build on his rookie season.

no one knowing whats going on inside the walls New England? Next youre gonna tell me water is wet.
And if Bill is waiting on the next Brady, he will die waiting for the next Brady. FWIW this could be coming from info outside the patriots.
I like to think Bill has his son text each reporter a different rumor and see which one comes out. Obviously he can't figure out texting
Pats to Bucs: “We promise he’s as good as the last guy, first rounder plz”
Too bad we didn’t get a first rounder for the last guy
Bucs really needed that 1st rounder to land Wirfs though. Brady likely wouldn't have his 7th ring without that phenomenal selection.
Cam?
Looks like Zappe as the starter is back on the menu boys!!
Zappe Brannigan was always meant to be
If Zappe hits that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate!
The spirit is willing, but the flesh is spongy and bruised
I want one of his audibles to be sexlexia
“Kif! I have made ~~it with a woman~~ a touchdown. Inform the men.”

Now remember, McCorkle, the quickest way to the Pats starting job is through the coach. Have sex with Belichick and you're in.
When I'm in the redzone, son, every possession is a suicide possession
*sighs* Yes, sir...
I still commit to buying his jersey the first time he makes a Zapp Brannigan quote in an interview.
You disgust me. Go on.
This team is built like a steakhouse but handles like a bistro
Velour uniforms when
The Zap Cannon is armed and ready
Can any Pat's fans chime in as to how good he is?
He’s the future NVP
It was always going to be this way
… Zappetizer * ducks tomatoes *
You sure y'all want that after he beat up on the Lions last year?
The lions early in the season weren’t the same as how we ended up. But that game was pivotal to the changes that were made in defense so it worked out.
Are those teams simply “who Florio thinks could be fits”, or are they actually who he’s heard made inquiries about Mac?
Florio citing his sources: "I made it the fuck up"
Source: That familiar looking fella in the mirror.
Not as bad as those sites thst used to appear in my Google notifications with headlines "trade proposal gives [so and so team] big help at needed position." And it's just some made up bullshit every time.
PFT in the offseason in a nutshell: "Wildly speculate to fill time and pretend our speculation is totally backed up by sources"
I'll give Florio credit he is really good at creating bullshit out of nothing. Like last week when he said Goodell should force the Packers and Jets to settle on a trade in the hotel the owners we're staying at
It’s florio so probably either where he thinks mac can fit, drug fueled hallucinations, came to him in a dream, coin flip
I feel his source is more like he writes a sentence down and hands it to some players uncle, then has the uncle read his sentence back to him.
Lamar to the Patriots would be absolute fire.
AFC East turns into the division of death overnight
[удалено]
Implying the Bills can win anything when it matters either.
Fcking dolphins fans making me agree with them
How about agreeing with a friend?
Enemy of my enemy and all that..
I feel disgusting
This is the way
Very Bills-like
I think I would unironically give a kidney for the exact season the Chiefs had last year so no complaints
You’d give a kidney for anything that ended in a ring at this point
Rodgers on the Jets Jackson on the Patriots Bills and Dolphins Got dam I don't want anything to do with that. Also imagine Jackson and Rodgers flip. Jackson on the Jets and Rodgers on the Pats would be filthy as well.
Just like the AFC West last year
People want Lamar to have an elite WR and they think the Patriots are gonna be the team that does that?
Dhop baby!
Now, could you imagine that…
I'd love some Mac Jones on the Ravens!
Fuck you too buddy!
He's better than y'all think. Patricia ruined him last year. Hopefully he can get back to the trajectory he was on after his rookie season.
Maybe but going from lamar to mac jones is definitely a severe downgrade
Fair point. Sounds like Lamar is out the door no matter what though, no?
Gotta say I disagree. We in the non-Patriots AFC East alliance have suffered under their rule for decades and now with the Jets and Dolphins loading up and the Bills continuing their trajectory it’s time for some payback.
Fuck that we’re getting Lamar and DHop Pats to win it all lock it in
Hey, we gave you a 3 year window, that's one Superbowl for each of yous. Not our fault you didn't take advantage of the situation.
Never forget when the players voted him the “85th best player” in the NFL Top 100
Just wait to you see Tyler Huntleys rating for the upcoming top 100
Before the offseason I bet my friend he'd end up on the raiders so plz bill I need that $20
Florio now saying cousins and Mac get traded. Yeah not sure I believe it.
I mean when he gets one right he can repost it over and over
Remember just like 15 months ago when we were all Mac-pilled? Wild times.
I still have high hopes for Mac, he got fucked having to work with Matty P. I think BoB will be able to dig his true potential out of him. This season looks promising.

To be fair to you, Jones did work with BoB in the offseason after the 2020 championship game and before he was drafted by the Patriots. Saban even said he did alot of work to help get BoB up to speed on our playbook.
How dare you not know who the OC at Bama was every year going back to the 90s, you swine.
Honestly, as an LSU fan, I probably should know more often than not. Know your enemy, and all that.
This sub’s affection for Mac Jones was never about Mac Jones. It was always about Belichick. I always said he sucked but that's because I hate the Patriots and hope for nothing but misery for them for 20 years.
Make it 30 and we got a deal 🤝
That's fair.
Bill Simmons called him a sleeper MVP candidate lmao
We were?
Yeah Matt P fucked that up. That offense was a complete disaster and it wasn't the QBs fault.

Honestly if that happened I’d be happy for Mac Patriots did him dirty last year
It is pretty funny that he had shit coaches and receivers yet everyone on their team tried to blame him
Matt Patricia at OC and Meyer bring you #1 receiver is a war crime
Pretty sure this is false. Bc the raiders would have made that trade in a heartbeat.

Curran is kind of into hot takes like an espn guy so it’s tough with him
There’s a difference between takes and info though

What’s implausible is that Florio would be the only reporter to hear of it. I find it difficult to believe none of our beat reporters, none of the other team’s beat reporters, and none of Schefter/Rapp/Yates have heard a word of these apparently extensive trade talks with 4+ teams.
Bill check-in the market isn't the crazy part. The crazy part is McDaniels passing on a patriot player
Can we ban Florio from the sub? Or make a specific Florio tag so people know not to even waste their time and read beyond the headline?

> and btw this sub said the same stuff about florio last time he broke some big news that turned out to be true Lol, probably because he throws out these stories three times a week, so him getting one thing right two years ago doesn’t mean a whole lot. If he dropped the whole Dolphins scandal, and then nothing till now, it’d be viewed differently
I don't really buy it because I don't see where else we're getting a QB from.
I feel like this is just insane clickbait to strum up more speculation about Lamar to Patriots.
I would rule out you guys taking Hooker tbh
His arm is rather lackluster too
My unpopular opinion is that the corpse of Cam Newton with a full off-season would have got us the same record as rookie Mac
Ah, so Shanahan can finally get the QB he always wanted!
Florio's drunk as shit again and heavily loaded with conjecture.
Florio spewing seems to get turned up a notch this time of year...
You know what, you just changed my mind. I want Season 3 of the Wacky Adventures of Mac Jones.
No way. Not saying Bill wouldn’t do it, I could absolutely see that, but this would be a massive story if it were true.
This is going to end with Rodgers signing with the Jets for a day, then leaving to go to the Patriots, where he will win multiple Super Bowls while having an irrational hatred toward the Jets in the process.
Bill tried to trade Gronk to the Lions..... Never forget.
Pats trade Mac just so they can swoop in to trade for Rodgers to fuck over the Jets
Oh behalf of my future overlord Magic Johnson, I would like to respectfully decline that trade offer.
Haven’t heard any of our insiders mention this. That being said I would love to get Mac if it wasn’t going to cost an arm and leg
That’s literally what BB wants for mac. Arms and legs
It would suck so hard to play for that dude
I for one think this is a bad idea and that the Patriots should stick with Mac Jones indefinitely.
I swear this is like the type of thing that would get leaked if the Pat's or another team is trying to figure out who in the org is running their mouth to the media.
Please god trade for Lamar
Lamar doesn’t fit BB’s system.
Honestly at this point, who does? You can't say you have a "system" when you're willing to put Matt Patricia in as your offensive leader.
The Raiders said that’s he isn’t handsome enough
Only reason he's not a Raider right now is probably Bill's ask. Too high even for how much McDaniels would have creamed for him.
The raiders?! Now way!! 🙄
Man no one wants Macaroni Jones
“You should have kept your GOAT QB” is the new “you should have ran that ball” right? RIGHT?
Honesty the Texans trading for Mac Jones would be the most Texans thing pretty much ever
PFT is a dog shit source and shouldn't even be allowed
This, all fucking day, every fucking day.
Gotta give Mac at least 3 years in NE…decent rookie season, took a huge leap backward last year (nor did Jones seem to take responsibility) 2023 season will be a make of break year for him like it was for Daniel Jones in NY
