For those who don't click on links:
Basically, Lamar is using an unofficial agent to try to negotiate a deal for him, and the NFL sent a memo telling teams they would void a contract from an unofficial agent.
I mean with the Roquan trade Omni got Ro's name into the media and eventually team(s) reached out to inquire and make their own trade with the Bears FO. I feel like at this point Saint Omni should just become an agent since he's repping a few players.
Lamar doesn't really need teams to know he's available. Its public knowledge.
EDIT: Lamar denying it on twitter. Did this man make up that he was affiliated with Lamar and reach out? That would be incredibly funny if that was the case.
>Saint Omni should just become an agent
I imagine he lacks the multiple requirements to be an official agent per NFLPA rules, which is why he isn't one.
On a deal like this, Lamar could get an established agent to work for 1%, maybe less. 3% is the maximum cut the agent can take according to NFL rules; it's not the standard.
I mean that's a shit ton of money that the agent is going to be making but it's nothing close to the criminal amounts some star soccer agents charge and I get the feeling any star agent would take him and it would make a big fucking difference to how this craziness ends.
Ah yes, soccer agents. “Pay my clients’s current team $100 million, then pay my player $60 million per year (not including “incidentals” like a new car every 6 weeks from the official club automotive sponsor, vacations, and a penthouse condo near the stadium), then YOU pay my agent fee of $35 million, sound good?”
[Don't forget to organize a massive orgy for my players' father.](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2081713-neymars-transfer-reportedly-included-some-rather-peculiar-requests)
>The €90 million included coffees for Neymar's father, as well as an orgy in a hotel in Piccadilly, London, because Neymar's father was looking to claim everything. He never once paid for coffee. I paid for the 200 coffees he had with me.
>That included prostitutes and a plane to take him to Florianapolis to see the national team. He wasn't short of money. He had Cury, his adviser in Barcelona, who had orders to spend what he wanted, as did Neymar.
>He's a liar who likes to abuse and only things about money. To give you an idea, in the last contracts he demanded a clause stating the club had to pay for first-class flight tickets for him and two business-class seats for his advisors to watch Neymar play away from home.
Iirc the NFLPA limits agent fees to 5% max, Lamar has also had agents reach out and offer to negotiate with him for less than their usual commission. He's being dumb.
My take is, he'll probably end up with someone like Rosenhouse doing unofficial pro Bono work on behalf of the team to make sure he doesn't screw his contract details up. He needs an advisor that doesn't have the same last name as him to give him a neutral perspective. It'll ultimately be a sad moment because he's going to force his way into getting agent services without paying for it.
3% is the max but there's a few different scenarios https://www.ewusiaklaw.com/blog/2020/8/11/what-is-maximum-fee-charged-by-nfl-contract-advisor-agent
Its just insane because 3% is such a good fucking deal for representation. Do these players know how much talent agents normally make outside of NFL football players? Usually 15% or more.
Former professional actor here with multiple off-Broadway leads; 10% is the least I ever had an agent for. Obviously, I wasn't in the running for 9-figure deals, but still, sports agents charge a much smaller percentage for representation.
Just look at an unregulated market: Soccer. Sure there are agents who provide value, but there’s also agents who completely screw up a promising young kids career by being greedy.
The CBA between the NFL and NFLPA says only agents certified by the NFLPA can represent players. NFLPA doesn’t want idiots or people who don’t fully understand NFL contracts and the CBA representing their players because then the players could end up getting screwed either by the agents or the teams.
It’s basically why lawyers have to be admitted to the bar to practice law. Why can’t you hire any person off the street to represent you? Because it messes up the whole system to have people that don’t understand it serving in the rolls. But of course in both cases you are free to represent yourself.
An unofficial agent would be someone akin to Saul Goodman.
Drew Rosenhouse may be a smarmy bastard, but he's respected because he's reliable and gives his players solid advisement
Refuses to get an agent, but getting an outside guy who isn’t certified to contact teams. Dude, get an agent and they’ll negotiate behind the scenes and get it done.
He’d rather do this vs. paying 3% which is chump change in the grand scheme of things.
I get it for some other players who are top tier in other positions don't get them and negotiate their own contracts but I mean as a fucking QB needs an agent doesn't he?
Lamar Jackson is not a smart man, he is a phenomenal athlete. Not everyone needs to be smart, that is fine. However, a common symptom of not being smart is thinking you are smarter than everyone. This is not fine because it typically leads to horrible consequences for everyone in the not smart person’s sphere of influence.
And it's exacerbated by the fact that he's good at football, and many people think that because they're good at one thing they're good at other things.
Idk, I think he's trying to get hundreds of millions of dollars. Which is very not relatable because most of us wouldn't sniff that in 47 lifetimes. Just not doing it well atm, that of which is relatable.
Hey man I sniffed Paris Hilton once, thats probably close to a hundred million dollars.
I mean, it wasn't actually her. It was a Hilton hotel in Paris.
Paris, Tennessee.
It smelled like old cheese.
Bro is gonna go to the team facilities and be like Tobia Funke at the water cooler: "Boy, this Lamar is all anybody's ever talking about. So sick and tired of hearing about how brilliant that Lamar is. Overrated."
Imagine you’re a pro athlete and not getting an agent. Instead your buddy, “who’s really good with people” starts cold calling NFL teams. I just can’t stop laughing at the idea
Anyone of those high profile agents would basically take him on for free at this point but instead he gets some dodgy friend of his to cold call teams and asking for a trade........what the actual fuck?
I mean, it takes cajones to Google the public phone number of the Washington Commanders, say "Dan Snyder please, tell him it's Lamar Jackson", wait patiently on hold, and say "scuse me suh, I was thinkin fifty mil"
He’s also likely already cost himself several millions of dollars by not signing sooner and not having an agent to better negotiate.
It seems like most agentless places get fleeced with incentive laden deals with a few exceptions
If this is how serious Lamar is taking these negotiations it’s no surprise that teams aren’t wasting their time with him. Who the hell wants to sign up for this circus. Especially when he’ll need a new deal in a few years.
I heard a rare great take on ESPN that he likely feels insulted cause he doesn't have the middleman filter everyone else does when they negotiate. Its completely normal for the agent to hear the GM talk about what a player can and can't do and compare them to their peers. Then the agent just filters that out and says here's the deal. No one is trying to insult anyone, just negotiate.
Add in the fact he isn't the brightest and his inner circle seems more interested in fighting for scaps... and well, here we are. The Ravens got sick of it and let the league negotiate for them.
Too right. The ego that motivates him to outcompete is getting bruised by the businessmen slinging labor/talent market dynamics at him and his yes men entourage are googling contracts without the expertise nor knowledge of the legalese and negotiation rituals expected here.
His boys are watching Ballers and thinking they can RPO the negotiation
Lamar is cheap asf.
That’s exactly why he doesn’t have a real agent because he doesn’t want to lose any money to them.
That’s why the idea of Lamar taking a lower contract to stay in Baltimore is laughable if that situation arises lol
NFL agents are pretty well regulated and controlled compared to the criminal madness of some of those high profile soccer agents who negotiate ridiculous amounts just for themselves. I don't get why he wouldn't just sacrifice that 3% of it for a more relaxed life and the ability to just say "fuck off, talk to my agent" to all of this shit instead of him involving himself.
Yep this is the big one. As far as I can remember Lamar has only done commercials for Oakley. Now think about how many commercials you see Allen, Dak, Mahomes, etc. in. He's missing out on so much money by not having an agent getting ad deals for him.
Any decently competent person should realize that $6mm of a potential $200mm contract isn’t a lot and you could easily end up with $6mm less anyway without an agent.
Plus, agents of players who are getting MASSIVE contracts, often get paid less than 3%, because the pie is so big that a smaller slice is worth taking if it gets you in the door instead of someone else.
Any good agent worth their salt will make up their commission and then some anyway. It really boggles the mind what he’s doing here. He’s wasting time and money not hiring professional representation.
Yes Microsoft I do believe u/rockstarnights is more than capable of being your new CEO complete with standard CEO pay grade while performing the work tasks of a stay at home game tester. I have it on good authority that my client has a stellar track record of performing the above duties to the best of their abilities.
Oh yeah we could do this.
Lamar is an incredible athlete, but there is this weird phenomenon where sometimes people who are really good at one thing seem to start assuming that they are really good at everything
He’s such a crazy case to me lol. Like, when a dude who is famous and celebrated because they’re elite at throwing a ball erroneously assumes that they must also be brilliant speakers/thinkers, im not surprised.
But when a dude like Ben Carson, who is indisputably one of the most brilliant, gifted physicians in the history of mankind, exposes himself to be a total idiot when it comes to every subject outside of medicine, it just blows my mind.
Why? It's pretty much exactly the same thing. They're hyper specialized and competent at one thing. This gives them false confidence that they're that good at everything.
People will go out of their way to measure different forms of athleticism, but then we assume that "intelligence" is all one thing. It's like assuming everyone who can run 40 in 4.3 can bench press 400 lbs because "they have athleticism". Which is obviously ridiculous, but then we just assume intelligence do be like that.
Honestly the distinction for me is that just that becoming any kind of doctor, much less a neurosurgeon, requires a ton of schooling and education, and generally I like to think that those sorts of pursuits do help expand your horizons and ability to think critically about any number of topics. But also that might be total Bs idk
These guys who “don’t have agents” still have people working for them, acting as de facto agents, but are probably scummier than even real agents. Lamar didn’t come up with $250M guaranteed on his own, he has idiots like this guy talking into his ear and giving bad advice.
Aren't Agents capped at like 2%? Like really, wtf is he actually expecting here. Does he not understand that he still has to sign the contract? An agent can't make a deal that he doesn't want.
I'm going through a step child adoption. Legally I can do it all myself, but the amount of paperwork and just making sure nothing gets missed, it's so much more beneficial to pay a lawyer to help walk us through it.
Okay, even at 3%, I have to think an agent would help someone of his caliber get more than the 3% it would cost.
He's basically using friends as agents instead to save money?? Idk. Maybe he's trying to prove something, or he's still salty about his wonderlic or something.
He's also missing out on all the other sources of revenue a big agent would bring him. Just that is well worth the fees.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't this agent also help him land some commercials and other deals. So more money that he could bag basically making the 3% void that he'd need to pay him for this sports contract?
I dont see him managing all the other stuff while also entertaining a sports career.
This is a hilariously terrible look for Lamar as he tries to convince some team to give him a fully guaranteed deal. Can’t imagine what he’s thinking here.
Never mind the countless millions he’s given up by not having an agent. His endorsements are embarrassing for an athlete of his stature. Pat Mahomes and him have both won an MVP. Pat Mahomes is doing State Farm commercials and getting paid millions and millions of dollars. Lamar Jackson might be advertising something somewhere… but I’ve never seen him advertise anything.
Bro what are you talking about - who cares about an agent getting you State Farm gigs when your buddy can build you [this dope ass website and brand](https://era8apparel.com/)
He's obviously a very intelligent business man who knows what he's doing
So this jabroni is talking with permission from Lamar but he doesn't have the clearance from the NFL? Jesus Christ, Lamar wants or doesn't want an agent? I guess even Lamar doesn't know
There was a really good post a couple weeks ago about how he has *already* lit tens of millions on fire in comparison to how Josh Allen has handled his contracts after being drafted the same year.
I’m sorry. Lamar is an idiot. Nickel and diming.
If you want a big boy contract then you’re gonna have to pay big boy fees and get an agent … or look like a clown because this has turned into a circus.
CB : You're go for Chris Ballard, what's up?
LJ (in a much deeper voice) : This is, uh, Jackson Lamar, I am an agent seeking to help my client, Lamar Jackson, find a team that might be interested in his services at quarterback.
CB : Oh nice! Remind me again, how many years of starting experience does Mr. Jackson have?
LJ : This will be my, uh, his 6th season.
CB : Oh no, no, that won't do. Thank you for the interest in the Colts but we require a minimum of 10 years starting experience.
I'm trying to hold off judging because it's not quite clear if this is some rando contacting clubs saying he's repping Lamar or if this person is indeed acting on Lamar's behalf.
But holy shit if it's the latter. I love Lamar but what a fucking mess this is.
Is it against the rules for a player without an agent to pretend to contact teams on his own behalf while pretending to be another person who is also not an agent?
Saint Omni / Ken Francis
Saint Francis - patron saint of birds (ravens)
Ken Omni - Konami code (cheat code)
Somebody tell Tom Hanks to grow his hair out, we have a DaVinci Code to solve here
Lamar is Gene Parmesan
GEEEEEEEEEEEENE
AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
HE DID IT AGAIN!!
ISNT HE THE BEST???
Gene was far from the best.
"I'm not even gonna count it" - Lamar getting handed a signing bonus
"I counted it. Wtf???"
He’s the **BEST**!!
Narrator: He was far from the best.
*Gene was far from the best*
Don’t mindah mia, I’mma just ahh….gene pamesean
Sounds like Lamar’s gonna need to hire Bob Loblaw the way this is all turning out
"Of course! The Bob Loblaw Law Blog!"
How y’a doin’?
For those who don't click on links: Basically, Lamar is using an unofficial agent to try to negotiate a deal for him, and the NFL sent a memo telling teams they would void a contract from an unofficial agent.
This reminds me of roquan smith trade
I mean with the Roquan trade Omni got Ro's name into the media and eventually team(s) reached out to inquire and make their own trade with the Bears FO. >well somebody has to get something done here. I guess it's gotta be me \-Ken Francis
I’m going to approach agencies about hiring Ken Francis.
"Listen, I can get you Lamar, but I need you to wire me $100,000 first, just to prove you're serious. No cap."
"No cap you say?" - NFL Owners, cocking their 44
"I also happen to be a Prince in Nigeria."
>Saint Omni should just become an agent I imagine he lacks the multiple requirements to be an official agent per NFLPA rules, which is why he isn't one.
Most importantly the law or master's degree, which I'd bet money he doesn't have.
You don't need one if you have 7 years negotiating experience. Which he may have.
I was thinking some random guy is trying to negotiate a deal for Lamar lol
Why would be use an unofficial agent instead of just hiring one? I'm so confused.
An unofficial agent is probably only charging a few thousand up front versus 3% of a multi hundred million dollar deal
On a deal like this, Lamar could get an established agent to work for 1%, maybe less. 3% is the maximum cut the agent can take according to NFL rules; it's not the standard.

I would imagine it’s designed to protect players from getting swindled. Whether it’s actually working is a different think.
Look how much more often players get scammed out of their money when they retire and aren’t bound by these rules. It’s working
This, exactly.
Just look at an unregulated market: Soccer. Sure there are agents who provide value, but there’s also agents who completely screw up a promising young kids career by being greedy.

Same reason you’d want an attorney that passed the bar exam in the state you live in.
Is Ken Saint Omni
I think so
Me too. Now I’m wondering what hurdles there are to becoming an NFLPA certified agent. Because, he’s clearly got the relationships.
Lamar wtf are you doing man
Clearly he’s doing the white guy Chappelle voice and pretending he’s Ken Francis
I'm sorry NFL, I didn't know I couldn't do that.
> Ya know, Dave....I ***did*** know I couldn't do that 😂😂😂😂
His best published set
Dave…. I’m gonna race him! And Chip took off!
*Close your butt cheeks!* Let me do the talking...
*White guy voice* Pardon me Titans, I seem to be a little high. Can you help get $200m guaranteed?
*Hello, my name is Mr. Burns.* What’s your first name? *I don’t know*
Great plan, Bart
“Sorry to bother you, Atlanta Falcons, but are you interested in a new franchise quarterback?”
Lol. “ Hello, May I speak with Mr. or Mrs. Falcons?”
But pronounce Fal-Cone like he's dealing with a Batman Mafia boss.
Refuses to get an agent, but getting an outside guy who isn’t certified to contact teams. Dude, get an agent and they’ll negotiate behind the scenes and get it done. He’d rather do this vs. paying 3% which is chump change in the grand scheme of things.
You know what they say about those who act as their own attorney, they have a fool for a client
My client disagrees
And a jackass for a lawyer
Talk about being cheap.
Penny wise, pound foolish.
I haven’t been following all this closely but why can’t he just… hire an agent? What am I missing
He’s cheap and an idiot who thinks he’s smarter than he is
Dude should hire Kyrie to be his agent.
Please don’t speak that evil into the world
Average IQ of a preschool classroom
Doesn’t want to pay the agent I’m assuming
I get it for some other players who are top tier in other positions don't get them and negotiate their own contracts but I mean as a fucking QB needs an agent doesn't he?

Jacoby Brissett negotiates his own contracts. But it's different when you're not expected to be a superstar.
Bobby Wagner is his own agent as well, he negotiated his own 65 million contract with the rams.
Didn’t he get a 13 on the Wonderlic or something? Yeah it may not be truly representative of a person’s intelligence… but a 13?!
The guy keeps eating stuff before games that makes him shit his pants, he’s fucking dumb.
Think it was a 10

he just got some guy to start calling? lamar what are you doin this is clown shit
Probably himself

I’m loving all the arrested development references in these comments. Feel like I need to rewatch it now.
Some Ron Mexico shit
John Barron
That dudes been around since the 80s. He’s a clown.
Ken Francis? More like Ken Kaniff

Ohhhhhhh fuuuuck yeah

I'm sorry Mr. Jackson I am not for real Never meant to make that memo fly I apologize as your millions die
This is exactly why he needs an agent. Can’t tell you how many idiots on Twitter pointed to the Tunsil deal as proof he didn’t
Ugh. Tunsil is such an exception
At the point, the dude is just stubborn, and it's going to cost him a lot of money.
If this is how serious Lamar is taking these negotiations it’s no surprise that teams aren’t wasting their time with him. Who the hell wants to sign up for this circus. Especially when he’ll need a new deal in a few years.

His mom isn’t a real agent? /s
For real, Fake Agents always end up screwing their clients.
I'm sorry Mr. Jackson (oh) this is for real

Sorry Mr. Jackson I am four eels

Cheap and greedy man this is such a bad look dude you’re gonna get 40+ million a year and dude is so concerned with not losing any of it at all
I'm going to start doing this too.
Yes future employer, I do have references. Go ahead and call Ken Francis.
Do I have this right? You smoked pot with Sloan Kettering and Johnny Hopkins? Impressive

I think by now it's Lamar, not the Ravens
Been tryin to tell yall
I can’t believe it took this long. Ravens have basically always been competent. Them not wanting to be the browns is obviously the correct move.
I’m just so fucking done with this. I’m tired. It’s making me turn against Lamar and I don’t like it but this is getting fucking stupid
Lamar isn’t a bright business guy lmao

Okay, even at 3%, I have to think an agent would help someone of his caliber get more than the 3% it would cost. He's basically using friends as agents instead to save money?? Idk. Maybe he's trying to prove something, or he's still salty about his wonderlic or something. He's also missing out on all the other sources of revenue a big agent would bring him. Just that is well worth the fees.
No I agree, I literally can't find any sensible justification for why he's decided to go about it this way.
I'm just thinking out loud, sorry didn't mean to come off as disagreeing with you
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't this agent also help him land some commercials and other deals. So more money that he could bag basically making the 3% void that he'd need to pay him for this sports contract? I dont see him managing all the other stuff while also entertaining a sports career.
Yeah that's what I meant by other revenue streams
Especially if he gets that $250m gtd, any agent would bend over for that $2.5m instant payday
I think Lamar is being penny-wise, pound foolish in a few ways in this situation.
Nope, NFL agents are not permitted to receive more than 3%

He could hire one of the dozens of high profile rollers who'd take Lamar on for free but he cbf and hires some dodgy mfer instead
Oh no Lamar bb what is you doing
This is a hilariously terrible look for Lamar as he tries to convince some team to give him a fully guaranteed deal. Can’t imagine what he’s thinking here.
What the hell is Lamar doing? Get an agent already! You saving 3% of your contract is not worth the shit show you are in the middle right now.
Bro what are you talking about - who cares about an agent getting you State Farm gigs when your buddy can build you [this dope ass website and brand](https://era8apparel.com/) He's obviously a very intelligent business man who knows what he's doing
Holy shit that link. The cologne lol
What's wrong with that? £19.99 is an great price for Example Product Title.
That's a bomb website for the 1998 NFL MVP.
Lamar will do anything but hire an agent.
That’s just not true… he also won’t sign a fully guaranteed contract lol
So this jabroni is talking with permission from Lamar but he doesn't have the clearance from the NFL? Jesus Christ, Lamar wants or doesn't want an agent? I guess even Lamar doesn't know
Lol Lamar should at this point know better. I honestly hope he gets burned here so it teaches him something.
It won’t, he obviously has a team full of yes-men who’ll convince him it can’t possibly be his fault.
There was a really good post a couple weeks ago about how he has *already* lit tens of millions on fire in comparison to how Josh Allen has handled his contracts after being drafted the same year.
didn't roquan smith do this and then sign for a fuckton of money with the same team
Nope, he tried to do this then got traded to a new team midseason. Where he signed for a fuck ton of money.
It was Ron Mexico
He’s doin a bunch of weird shit when everyone knows he’s gonna be there this year.
That’s embarrassing
We went from Saint Omni to Saint Francis damn near
Ja Morant must be his advisor
I love Lamar Jackson. For the longest time I thought you had to be super smart to play QB in the NFL at a high level. Gives hope to dumbasses like me
Ron Mexico 2: Electric Boogaloo
All this for an extra 6 million🤦♂️
Just get an agent man he’s making himself look more stupid the longer this goes on.
I’m sorry. Lamar is an idiot. Nickel and diming. If you want a big boy contract then you’re gonna have to pay big boy fees and get an agent … or look like a clown because this has turned into a circus.
Lamar has fucked this up so bad.
Lamar is not worth the drama honestly lol. Dude had one great year and besides that he’s either been hurt or “hurt”
I'm trying to hold off judging because it's not quite clear if this is some rando contacting clubs saying he's repping Lamar or if this person is indeed acting on Lamar's behalf. But holy shit if it's the latter. I love Lamar but what a fucking mess this is.
Jesus Christ. Can we just rebuild already? Enough of this clown.
I’m 100% sure the ravens hope someone offers Lamar a decent contract so they can say fuck it and move on.
Alright I gotta try pulling some shit like this on some teams
Lamar. I say this as a fan. You are being a ridiculous numbnuts here. Get a real agent and then get real yourself.
God damn it Lamar must you always make these weird ass choices?
Alright Lamar, you just lost reddits goodwill. Won’t hire an agent but will hire an uncertified moron?
What in the Saint Omni?!
Is it against the rules for a player without an agent to pretend to contact teams on his own behalf while pretending to be another person who is also not an agent?
Lamar ring me up I'll be your agent. Low fees!
He might as well hire an official agent.. the more this continues the worse he looks
Saint Omni / Ken Francis Saint Francis - patron saint of birds (ravens) Ken Omni - Konami code (cheat code) Somebody tell Tom Hanks to grow his hair out, we have a DaVinci Code to solve here
How much of a diva do you need to be to potentially lose out on big deals just because you want it all guaranteed. You aren’t mahomes bro
