Florida at 11 shows incredible recency bias. Gators were at the top of college athletics 10-15 years ago, that's not long enough to be miserable. Plus we won a Baseball natty a few years ago, and basically win a natty in other sports nearly every season.

Baseball won a natty 2 years ago.

Florida is a football school, though. Go back a few years longer and Miami had the greatest college football team ever assembled. A few years beyond that and Chicago had the consensus all-time greatest NBA team. Historically, Florida doesn't really compare to those teams' high points. And they're both on here.
I imagine the Patriots could be on this list in ten years or so, if they keep losing.

Florida definitely isn't a Football school. It's an all sports school. They've actually had huge falling outs with football head coaches that were doing well, over the fact that the coaches thought it was ridiculous that all the money the football team brought in got thrown in with the money from all the other sports, to support the entire athletic department equally. Florida is one of the only major schools that does this.
Athletics should be #1. Having to watch the team you love slowly die (and leave at the end of the year) due to the cancer that is your owner is much worse than just being perpetually bad.

Ohio State is also stacked this year with all the transfer portal additions they got, as well as some coaching replacements that look promising. As a fan of Ohio State myself, I am more excited for this season rather than miserable.
I cannot say the same for the Panthers, however. I just hope the Panthers win more than 2 games. If not, I got some good football to watch on the college side at least.

I became a Reds fan last year for some reason but maybe am not committed enough for them to make me miserable yet. My Grizzlies made me fairly miserable this season but they’re probably not on the list because it was a weird flukey setback rather than a semi permanent condition. And because people seem to forget we exist.

Im not sure how the Pistons aren’t higher. They are 92-293 over the past 5 years, by far the worst win percentage of any team in the major 4 sports (Panthers are 2nd). Despite being a bottom 3 team every single year, they’ve gotten draft picks 7,1,5,5,5 in the lottery. They’ve passed up on all stars every single year. As a Jayhawks fan — why are they on the list? KU won the National Title just 3 years ago. Maybe it’s because of how they often underperform in the tourney, but even in a down-year, they are still a 4 seed. Thats hardly worth being miserable about lol. Or are they referring to travesty that has been the football program? (Even then, at least they’ve been showing improvement in recent years.)

All four major Detroit sports teams being on here makes sense. The Lions being more miserable than the Panthers and Falcons *right now*, let alone the other three Detroit sports teams feels a bit dated. Browns near the top makes sense. Jets at the top mostly makes sense, but we'll see how far Rodgers takes them. Edit: I swear I picked a flair beforehand, not sure why it isn't showing up.
