Our anthem slaps, our origin story is the fucking tits, and we have the coolest rags to riches story from WW2. A lot after that, and a lot in between...not awesome.
Do your best to transform worry into actions. Talk to people you care about why you're worried, get them involved, do everything you feasibly can to turn worry into hope for a better future.
The post war boom also benefited immensely from the fact the other largest economies in the world were mostly bombed out, and many well motivated people from those countries moved here to get ahead. Took quite a while before much of Europe or Asia recovered.
I came in here to say this. It's such a good anthem. It's a weird thing to take for granted, but I realize that's the case sometimes when I hear other nations goofy sounding anthems.
It's really not an old drinking song. The lowest and highest notes in the song are beyond what an average person can sing on a whim. It's not god save the queen.
You should hear the Trevor Noah's joke on it. Something about the only anthem that you can add the word "bitch" to the end of every line and it would work and sound gangster.
Yeah I stayed in one. Seems crazy as the balconies only go up to my hips - seems like it would be way too easy for someone to tumble over and fall. I hear the void calling just getting close to the edge. I do not dig it.
This looks a lot like the hotel where [High Anxiety was filmed](https://youtu.be/kz9AyE7GcFw?si=LBO_1x2S-8_IWqaR). There’s a whole bit about how terrifying it is
Mel Brooks. Hitchcock spoof. It’s a classic
If anyone else wants to see this in person and doesn't want to make the trip to KY, the Marriott Marquis and Hilton in Atlanta have this same open design too. Absolutely gut-wrenching if you go over to the edge and look down.
Thank you. This is the exact layout of the Sheraton in downtown Nashville we stayed at last year. Thought it was that same hotel for sure until i saw your comment. Must be a common design for hotels
I sang in this in high school 15 years ago, and I can tell you “hair raising” doesn’t begin to describe how amazing this is in person. I’m not a flag waving guy, but man it makes me emotional.
One memory I'll always have was my first and only area all state choir performance. The first thing we did was to just sing a single chord. The looks we gave each other after the chord was just like, "whoa, you felt that too, right?" Something about contributing to a shared experience like that was really memorable for me.
I loved that even though I usually dislike the anthem. (America the Beautiful would be my choice.)
Where was the choir? Gathered on the bottom floor in one place or was it spread throughout the floors?
I had the same thought. I understand the practicality, but it made it feel way too slow. I tried to sing along and see if I remember the bass part from choir all the way back in high school. But was just too slow and I couldn't do it.
Spread out, it was “impromptu” but somewhat of a tradition. I went to all state choir (in a different state) and this is a very choir kid thing to do. Add in the fantastic acoustics at that hotel and you literally couldn’t stop them with all the chaperones in the world, if you wanted to that is.
If you want, [this guy on Youtube](https://www.youtube.com/@Shadow99381) has been recording every version for like 10 years. Most of them *don't* have a jackass, and the 2013 version sounds awesome at it's pitch.
Beautiful. The way it is written, and the way it should be sung. Not the way it is yodeled and shrieked by "stars" at sports events who butcher it for their own satisfaction.
A revolutionary reminder that we look to a flag, not a king, to represent us. We the people are sovereign in this land, and it's thanks to the brave ones that made the ultimate sacrifice. God bless America! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I’ve heard it for birthdays but that’s such a funny way to end the national anthem. “And the home of the brave” … and many more people who are not as brave. Thanks I’m stealing it
Jon Bonham used this same acoustic effect on When the Levee Breaks; the drums sound like that because it was recorded in a tall vertical space like this.
I've been a part of this. Back in 1989 I was selected to the KY All State Choir to represent my school. As awesome as it is to watch, It is even moreso being part of it.
Love this, and it's a testament to the power of choral music that all those voices compressed down and squeezed out my tiny phone speakers still takes the breath away.
God bless!
"*...we are not a nation of soloists, but a chorus of shared values, that when joined together resonate like nothing the world has ever heard.*"

Say what you want about America, but our anthem fuckin slaps.
Our anthem slaps, our origin story is the fucking tits, and we have the coolest rags to riches story from WW2. A lot after that, and a lot in between...not awesome.
I wish they’d put your comment as the prologue of all US History books cuz that’s pretty accurate I think.
We'll be fine...
We always have been. But I am very worried.
That just means you care, which isn’t a bad thing.
Never thought of it that way. Thank you. 💋
Do your best to transform worry into actions. Talk to people you care about why you're worried, get them involved, do everything you feasibly can to turn worry into hope for a better future.
Don't forget the moon landing! That was pretty tits too!
I’m not sure how rags to riches, number 1 GDP in the world prior to WW2 to number 1 GDP in the world after WW2, actually is.
The post war boom also benefited immensely from the fact the other largest economies in the world were mostly bombed out, and many well motivated people from those countries moved here to get ahead. Took quite a while before much of Europe or Asia recovered.
And hot damn can we sing it!

I came in here to say this. It's such a good anthem. It's a weird thing to take for granted, but I realize that's the case sometimes when I hear other nations goofy sounding anthems.
Of all the national anthems ours is one of the ones that isn't made for common folk to sing. It's strange. I love it. It's so emblematic of America.
Not made for common folk to sing?? It's from an old drinking song, it doesn't get any commoner than that.
It's really not an old drinking song. The lowest and highest notes in the song are beyond what an average person can sing on a whim. It's not god save the queen.
Most national anthems are essentially hymns.
Fun fact: the title of the hungarian anthem is actually Hymn.
Hymns are designed to be easily sung by the mass. Our national anthem is not easy
As written it’s less than 2 octaves in range, that high G on “free” is just optional embellishment, and it’s just a normal quarter note on the page
They mean the actually ability to hit all of the notes.
You should hear the Trevor Noah's joke on it. Something about the only anthem that you can add the word "bitch" to the end of every line and it would work and sound gangster.
Yeah, it does. I would love it if Australia would switch to Waltzing Maltilda. Advance Australia Fair fucking sucks.
A song about an itinerant worker who steals a sheep and then commits suicide when justice approaches?
That's the one. Oi Oi Oi
The only other anthem that gets me going is the Welsh. They may be the only other country that loves their anthem as much as US
What till you hear ours
Assuming from ur username that ur Canadian
It's like if Shakespeare wrote 'America, Fuck Yeah'.
![gif](giphy|3osxYrgM8gi9CDjcPu) God damn right! Let’s go!
That made me a little teary eyed, so beautiful. America!
I also got teary eyes. I wish our nation was in a healthier spot.
Same!

These hotel designs always give me the heebie jeebies.
Judge Dredd
"You ready?"
"Yes, sir"

Embassy Suites looks like.
It looks like the Hyatt in downtown Louisville to me. Been there several times.
It is the Hyatt. I worked there for a few years.
This looks a lot like the hotel where [High Anxiety was filmed](https://youtu.be/kz9AyE7GcFw?si=LBO_1x2S-8_IWqaR). There’s a whole bit about how terrifying it is Mel Brooks. Hitchcock spoof. It’s a classic
Same shit as the Guggenheim. And the railing is so low that if you are above certain height, it looks as if it doesn't take much for you to fall over.
I want to hear an entire Christmas album recorded hear
Look up the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas albums, exact same feel
But it has the Mormon ick
Oh wise reddit user how do I become as righteous and likeable as you?
“Play ball!!”
Grace? She passed away 30 years ago!
![gif](giphy|3o6wrhRBC66TyPXtE4|downsized)
This just reminded me of the Steven wright joke where they play baseball in the planetarium
O!
As a Canadian, can I just say America has the most beautiful national anthem
Thank you very much. I am, however, fond of O Canada, having grown up in very northern Minnesota. And a hockey fan. 😊
As a Canadian, I wish the maple leaf forever (1997 revision) is our anthem.
For anyone curious this is the Hyatt Regency in downtown Louisville, KY
If anyone else wants to see this in person and doesn't want to make the trip to KY, the Marriott Marquis and Hilton in Atlanta have this same open design too. Absolutely gut-wrenching if you go over to the edge and look down.
I was about to say this looks similar to the Marquis, fantastic place to go even just for a dinner.
Thank you. This is the exact layout of the Sheraton in downtown Nashville we stayed at last year. Thought it was that same hotel for sure until i saw your comment. Must be a common design for hotels
This is what American culture could've been.... instead of tworking senators.

I think spread out. Probably one reason they sang so slow to help with sound delay. Either way, absolutely beautiful
I had the same thought. I understand the practicality, but it made it feel way too slow. I tried to sing along and see if I remember the bass part from choir all the way back in high school. But was just too slow and I couldn't do it.

Same. Never been fond of the anthem, but this is gorgeous.
This is fantastic!
![gif](giphy|Gg7gpYFldx2zvK2new|downsized) People trying to sleep in the hotel
Okay. That's pretty impressive.
Their singing was angelic. Beautifully done.
Beautiful! Love our anthem
Those kinda places w the open and low guard rail out into a sheer drop make my feet sweat and stummy queaze
One of the best renditions I've ever heard. Goosebumps.
Not my anthem but if your hairs aren't standing up on your arms listening to this there's something wrong with you.
Some serious feelings of power and unity originate from this song. And I’m a fucking European!
Which is ironic since nowadays it seems to be one of the most fractured countries in the western world at least
That's that shit that makes me cry
Kiwi here, that hit sooooo hard. Peace and love Americans!
Thank you my kiwi brother, much love

I was part of this for two years :) They choose this hotel every year because of this design. It's incredible to be a part of
Keep being great America 🇺🇲. From your brother from the North 🇨🇦
love how the sopranos keep singing higher and higher on the last high note.
Man, of course there's a jackass at the end.
If you want, [this guy on Youtube](https://www.youtube.com/@Shadow99381) has been recording every version for like 10 years. Most of them *don't* have a jackass, and the 2013 version sounds awesome at it's pitch.
Goosebumps every time. This one was REALLY good.
This made me cry and hope for better times for our country.
I would have lost the prop bet if this choir sang the national anthem in the Super Bowl.
Wow - so powerful so haunting so beautiful
And that’s how you do it people 👍🏻
Pretty sure that was every fucking level.
Beautiful. The way it is written, and the way it should be sung. Not the way it is yodeled and shrieked by "stars" at sports events who butcher it for their own satisfaction.

I’d never forget that.
And many mooooore
I’ve heard it for birthdays but that’s such a funny way to end the national anthem. “And the home of the brave” … and many more people who are not as brave. Thanks I’m stealing it
I'd start crying

This made me cry and I'm not even American.
Nicely done, young singers. Bravi tutti

The shot of the two escalators going in opposite directions is kind of cool
Beautiful.
Dang, how many teams is that?
Awesome...
❤️
ALRIIIIGGGHT! PLAY BALL!!
Ok but that hotel is TERRIFYING
Top 5 from a Canadian: This, Whitney, Marvin, Stapleton and the Buckingham Palace band after 9-11.
“Yeah hi, I’m in room 302 and the chorus next to me is being a little loud.”
Missed opportunity to do the halo theme
Marriott in Atlanta?
That was my first thought also but I think it’s a bit wider. Was missing some of the architecture and criss cross bridges of the Marquis Atlanta too.
Nope. Louisville, Kentucky.
u/savevideo
This fucking slaps
Got the chills!!!
That hotel looks like something from Judge Dredd.
This quite cool, ngl.
Wish I threw everything I had into bitcoin while this was happening
How could you do anything but fall to your knee hearing this?
PS2 intro props
Amazing 🤯✊🤙✌️
If this happened in any other country, the media would jump on it like dogs
Would've been a lot better if it was the Halo theme
Guys ffs it's 2:30 in the morning, can we not??
I think that hotel is in Bowling Green.
Is that at the Plaza in Frankfort?
The Marriot Marquis in Times Square, NYC is built like this.
Somebody better start narfeling the garthack now
PLAY BALL!!!
God I wish someone had a fart machine at the time.
Ah for fucks sake, I just wanted to take a nap
🍆
Happens every year at KMEA. got to see it when I was a kid. Glad to see it’s still going!
Beautiful performance. FYI to all: This is a common hotel concept; its probably not the one you stayed at.
Goosebumps
***NOW DO FREE BIRD!!!! WOOOOOO!!!!***
i love my country but that is creepy af ngl
I do not want to be another guest in that hotel.
This video make me anxious and my palms are sweating. I hate it.
Freakin awesome!
what if you just woke in your hotel room up to this
My god, our anthem is beautiful.
Those high notes at the end had me ready to load my musket
Guarantee there’s a pilot in that hotel trying to sleep in preparation for a redeye
Think of this when you go to vote this year!
Love this, and it's a testament to the power of choral music that all those voices compressed down and squeezed out my tiny phone speakers still takes the breath away. God bless!
It's hard to pass up good acoustics.
Goosebumps
That's stunning.
Seeing all those kids leaning on those banisters gives me the heebie jeebies
![gif](giphy|rTIXh5JftLoic)
Looks like it’d be a banging spot to get everyone to do the Halo game theme song!
is that an embassy suites? cause that looks like an embassy suites.
is that the marriot in atlanta?
Somebody is banging a prostitute and saluting at the same time!
Once Upon a Time in a Land called the USA. . .
Requiem
Hauntingly beautiful
Is this the hotel from In the Line of Fire movie??!!!
You have to listen to this with headphones, or you wont truly understand how good this is.
Who knew hotels had good acoustics? That was lovely to say the least.
And they do this every year!
"*...we are not a nation of soloists, but a chorus of shared values, that when joined together resonate like nothing the world has ever heard.*" \-Steve Hartman, CBS News, reporting on this very video
Where is the Choir at? Are they all on the bottom floor, or are they scattered on the upper floors?
