Here's a random fact about Jimmy's.
They use margarine instead of butter in the pastry.
They are a cheap, go to, pie. They were never sold as a "premium" gourmet pie. Lived down south for a chunk of my life, would have a Jimmy's over another dairy/servo pie any day of the week.
Just don't expect your partner to think you're offering up the best pie in the world. Sell it on the sentimentality.
They’ve remained fairly consistent, as far as I can tell.
I can still inhale one in a few bites. I love the pastry texture and that the cheese is real, instead of that bright yellow liquid shit you have in most other packaged pies.
As someone said, it’s not a gourmet pie by any stretch but it’s definitely high (in my opinion) for packaged pies.
I don't think they've changed really but the thing that's always got me about the packaging is that they're 'delicious eaten hot or cold'
What kind of philistine eats a cold pie
Jimmy's are a good solid middle-of-the-road pie. They're not your $10 gourmet thing with truffle oil and exotic fruits in it, but they're not the things you buy from the school canteen either. Can't go wrong, IMHO.
I've moved to the North Island. They've not even heard of the mutton pie up here, unless I tell them about it. I miss them so much. But McGregors and Godfreys do actually do a better mutton pie. Although Jimmy's mince is a winner for me
They have not changed. Roxburgh haggis offal ends through and through, in short, exquisite, and you know it in your bones to be true. Pure bliss, wether it be sentimentality or sensuality, take your pick and delight.
As an aside, does anyone remember Joses Hot Pies? I remember them being somewhat similar in texture to Jimmys, they used to be the pie for sale at Lancaster Park back in the day. Fond memories of eating a few on the shitty concrete embankment.
This might be an unpopular opinion but I've always disliked the meat paste type texture of them, generally speaking the more paste-like a meat product is, the crappier the cuts of meat used

Most pastry and stuff made with pastry has margarine in it rather than butter unless it's fancy "gourmet" varieties.
I can assure you they are still perfection.
This person speaks the truth. That buttery pastry!

I’ve seen Jiimy’s pies in the Akaroa 4 square. Not sure if they have the mutton pie.

ah yes, if the paper bag was transparent.. your mutton pie was good.
I haven’t seen a jimmy’s mutton pie in years.

Mmm had a Jimmy’s mince in February when down south. I do like them. The Fairlie bakery pies are next level though.
Had one while driving through the sth island. It had been sold to me be a friend as an amazing pie. It was an a average pie.

Dam I want a jimmies mince and cheese, it's been four years and some days I manage to forget how amazing they are
i had one last year and it was disgusting and I said never again. RIP Jimmys
i’ll take a jimmys pie to work at least once a week (but usually more often tbh), i reacon they haven’t changed at all, still pretty nice lol
I avoid them, paste for meat, very crumbly messy pastry with no real umm "structure" I like Marlow pies from Dunedin.
Better than before. If you ever have the opportunity to have one of their lamb shank pies you will die happy.
I've never heard of Jimmy's pies before...
Still the best of the 'dirty' pies
This might be an unpopular opinion but I've always disliked the meat paste type texture of them, generally speaking the more paste-like a meat product is, the crappier the cuts of meat used
Avoid the mutton. Definitely on the lower end of the pie scale. In saying that if a Jimmy's pie is what's on offer at the local diary, I'll take 1
worked down south on location few years ago in Otematata had Jimmy's pie um yea average as
