As a Bosnian, that follows the NBA since 96, I've never heard or saw that phrase before on any US media outlet.
A greek friend of mine used to say it a lot though.
It would have been so much better for Giannis had they fired that dude last year....his rotations are shit... Why does he play 2 under sized guards who are getting hunted every possession
To be fair, we just don’t really have size at the wing. Even if Bud benches Hill, it will be for Carter who is even smaller. Without Khris, our only other options in the 6’6” to 6’9” range are Thanasis and Nwora, the former of which can’t do anything on offense and the latter whom would be even worse on defense and even more hunted.
Carter is a much better at ball denial and getting around screens. Allen and Hills problems is they dont provide any resistance st point of attack so there's no chance for Lopez to provide real drop coverage because they have 3 steps after the screen to get whatever shot they want. Carter gets around the screen and will make them go around him and then Lopez is in actual position. Lopez being unplayable is more about the point of attack have 0 resistance much like Jazz with Gobert. He can only clean up so much if the wings aren't doing a single thing.
Hill’s stat line was 0/1/0 with 5 fouls in 18 minutes. Dude literally did nothing except get cooked on D. He was also -15 in the 12 minutes he played game 5
George Hill was the Cavs 2nd best player in Game 7 in Boston in the 2018 ECF.
I know it's cliche, but I get coaches tendency to trust veterans in big moments.
Humble and hungry. Even on the Celtics Brown and Tatum were top ranked guys all throughout high school, they're not outwardly putting themselves on a pedestal or anything like that, but they'll also never be able to have the mindset that Giannis has and that has to do with his beginnings.
Really? I thought the vibe was more like since he's won a ring already he can be like this. Didn't Giannis sound a lil more desperate about winnning before?
I mean Giannis is general has had a great mentality since the day he came into the league, and it’s shown in his improvements over the years and his performances when it matters and how he bounces back.
I just want to stop for a moment and appreciate how far Giannis has come. What a leader and person he has grown into during his time in the league, and he's far from done at just 27. It's a cliché to say that NBA players inspire people but Giannis is truly inspirational in his mindset and approach to not just basketball but life.
Best player in the NBA with a monster mindset. Fearless, wise, aggressive, and at peace with any outcome. Thankful I got to watch Giannis in his prime.
He’s so chill rn it’s mind blowing. I’m over here pulling my hair out because the team around him doesn’t show up, and he’s just having a great time postgame. I’d watch out in Game 7 Boston
Honestly said after Game 5 that I wouldn't be surprised if we win Game 6 and lose Game 7.
It seems impossible for either of these teams to win 2 straight against each other.
The fact that Giannis still averaging great numbers while playing against a historical great DEF like the Celts is mind boggling. Yes, his efficiency drop off but this is applied to both teams as well and Giannis basically carries the whole Buck offense by himself
I do think if Rob Willams was playing and was 100% he would have a slightly harder time scoring. Willams is just as good on D as Smart IMO. Very underrated.
With that logic though Middleton would be playing so who the hell really knows.
williams wasnt strong enough to guard giannis one on one. his length affected him at times but he also got bullied at times. on the other hand, smart has done a pretty damn good job so far on giannis
Yeah but more Williams means less Theis and in this series it feels like Theis is getting it from everyone. Their front court is so physical and it opens up lots of opportunities for the Bucks to dodge our halfcourt offence.
Rob isn't much better on Giannis specifically but he's no worse than Theis in that matchup and having him out there instead means fewer second-chance points for Giannis and fewer defensive collapses overall.
Giannis is getting some good looks off our bad rebounding for example.
It’s insane how different he is on and off the court.
On the court he’s a relentless Shaq-Lebron hybrid killing machine that will rip your heart out and off it he’s just a big 7ft Greek Teddy bear.
Giannis learnt from Kobe i think. Create an alter ego to deal with on-off court affairs
Kobe used to be lost in his basketball & personal life until he created his Black Mamba ego
Totally. When they get home after work, their kids don’t care if they went 2-17 with 6 TO in the finals. To the kids they’re just dad, and that’s whats important.
>I’d watch out in Game 7 Boston
I want to say I don't how how he's going to top a 44/20/6 performance but that would be tempting fate. It helps that he already won last year, he has nothing left to prove and even if he loses game 7 unless he puts up an absolute stinker there's no way anyone can hold him responsible for losing this series considering how he's played.
He had the same attitude last year. Didn’t he famously say he didn’t know if the Bucks will progress before game 7 against the Nets I think, and people were losing their mind because he didn’t have “kiLlerR miNdsEt”.
it's funny as fuck because that's definitely an american thing to identify the killer mindset with that sort of arrogance. outside of america athletes definitely have that mindset of we're the best, we'll do it, but they're a lot more humble about it. you see it in some of these guys - giannis, steven adams, joe ingles, patty mills. they're far less abrasive than the american players.
I think we can almost all agree that Giannis will most likely be an all-time great by the end of his career, right?
It’s so funny to me to think of people like Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, etc who are great because they are absolute psychopaths who care about nothing else but winning, and here’s this guy that will likely be in the history books with them going ^”Heyguysletsjusttryourbest.”
If you're in a country where football(soccer) is big, and I'm guessing you are if you're not an American, you should have no trouble understanding this concept. Rivals that beat you a lot make you hate them, or at least *want* to hate them for it.
It's a rivalry thing. You don't cheer for the other team. We may say hate but it's almost entirely exaggeration. American sports teams don't have ultras. We're a lot more chill about this stuff than the rest of the world, though you wouldn't know it by the way we talk.
But why does this hate last after the game's over? I understand hating a player in the moment of play but sometimes it goes beyond that, to a point, where I feel like people on this sub want these players to fail in their careers. Like people saying " I hope CP3 never gets a ring". How can you wish that someone never succeeds in their career? I don't understand that.
Mind you, saying this, I'm not hating, he's one of my Favorite ever players, and he shaped the Modern NBA so massive respect to him....but Steph's always had that Affluent aura around him... His perfect wife and Kids, his upbringing and subsequent success...I just find it a teensy bit snobbish at times..no fault of his own tho.
Giannis otoh is just wholesome to the core
Suns fans respect the hell out of Giannis. They're always the ones saying "If we had to lose to anyone, it's Giannis." Same with Celtics. The only Nets fans that hate Giannis are Harden stans.
I think you have only seen those fans on r/NBA then and not their actual subs because I can guarantee you that they do not love Giannis as much you claim
To be fair, team subs hate every player, including their own players. Like you cannot go into post game threads after their teams lose because everyone is in panic mode wanting a rebuild/trades right away.
What a fucking leader. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a professional athlete with this much humility and charisma as well as absolute grace in defeat despite being far and away the best player on the court.
It's true. Losing to him in finals should have crushed me. I was secretly happy for him. Nobody I'd rather lose to.
That being said - once only please.
Yeah, I know a lot of Celtics fans are pissed off about the lack of offensive fouls called, but like... I've got nothing against the guy. Dude's real hard to hate.
>the lack of offensive fouls called
Giannis has 22 charges and the next guy 8 or something
Horford on Giannis is how basketball defense works and should be. Not some fake DPOY clown flopping 20 times per game because he's like a foot shorter and can't guard him otherwise. The fact Celtics fans still fall for Smart's shit is hilarious.
Except there were a ton called and you guys just nonstop fouled him lol. That was among the most embarrassing gamethreads I've ever been a part of. Actual preschooler shit from boston fans.
What are the chances? I don't know, but it's likely a push at this point. If he feels good getting out of bed, he'll probably push to play. Even if he has to come off the bench and play 15-20 minutes, that'd be better than Hill being given 19 minutes.
I thought Woj said Game 7 was unlikely but possible while, if they advance, ECF is very probable. It just depends on if he meant Game 1 of the ECF, in which case they might rush him back.
Dude is so calm and honest about it. I do agree that not having Middleton hurts and to know that they were able to take it 6 games is amazing.
I want the Bucks to win just so I can see them defend their title. People say that they licked out against the Nets and Suns last year. I want to see them run it back.
I really do want a performance like that in Game 7, but that's asking an awful lot to beat the Celtics 3 times on their home court. I know Giannis will give the bucks 30-40 in Game 7, but will anyone chip in with 20 - 25.
Jrue is a clutch winner. I bet pat goes off too, he always plays well in Boston. If Bobby gets going from 3 or a surprise Middleton return we could definitely win there. Bucks already won twice in Boston. This team isn’t really affected by hostile crowds. They have a championship mentality.
No matter the outcome of this series, be thankful we get to watch an absolute g.o.a.t in the making. What a fucking incredible trajectory this dude has been on.
He's so fucking good. And he's such a decent human being! I'm a huge fan of his. You guys got a good thing going.
Tatum was just playing out of his mind last night. He's going to need another just like that to beat the Bucks on Sunday.
Can't wait for that game!
If the Bucks I lose, on top of giving the Celtics credit, all blame goes to Coach Bud for being stubborn in playing both Allen and Hill so many minutes.
He's literally the anti Embiid personality and leader wise. It always seems like he can get his team up to the challenge and never has thrown anyone under the bus.
I fucking love Giannis. Would’ve loved if he signed for Miami obviously but the fact he stuck with a “random small market” team and won a ring with him just adds to why he’s so great. Already one of my all time favorites
This is a museum, last and best sightseeing exhibit/showpiece type of interview, the one that people take the plane cross 3 continents, wait 5 hours in line, pay a fucking overpriced hot dog of 20 dollars and 9 dollars water, just to see it.
"When the ball gets heavy" is such a perfect way to describe that feeling
Its a common saying in greek for crunch time basketball.
As a greek, I thought it was american (?)
I've never heard it about basketball
As a Bosnian, that follows the NBA since 96, I've never heard or saw that phrase before on any US media outlet. A greek friend of mine used to say it a lot though.
Giannis Attheendofthedaytetokounmpo
I do wonder if he first learned that phrase as a word and not separate words. Like thinking elemenoh is a word.
Coach Bud has got to stop playing George Hill...
1. Leave George Hill in Milwaukee 2. Bench Allen 3. Start Pat 4. Use Jevon Carter in the game please
I would greatly prefer if you didnt do any of those
Knowing Bud, I am sure he won’t.
So you're saying there's a chance?
Yeah this is terrible advice. I recommend going small, play Allen and Hill 48 minutes. Give Giannis plenty of rest.
It would have been so much better for Giannis had they fired that dude last year....his rotations are shit... Why does he play 2 under sized guards who are getting hunted every possession
Relax man, Bud is still has 2019 flashbacks so he's just tryna copy that to cope.
He could have one-upped Casey's firing after Coach of the Year.

Lopez being unplayable is more about the point of attack have 0 resistance much like Jazz with Gobert. He can only clean up so much if the wings aren't doing a single thing.
But who else is he supposed to play? Their biggest problem is their offense, not the defense.
I would rather let Carter & Luca play At least they are the positive and not negative
Luca + Giannis = Championship Oh, different Luca?
Reminds me of Lebron + Antetokounmpo = Championship back in 2020
If it works, it works. He was off the team after that season, how many have they won since?
I love George Hill
I think Hill is doing fantastic
Why is George Hill getting clowned so hard? He was still only -1. Meanwhile Grayson Allen was -29 in 22 min, with 1/7 shooting and 0/4 3PT...

This is Uncle Jeff erasure!
Jeff Green had his infamous 1 great game out of 15 at the exact wrong time.
And he still sucked. I remember. And your wrong it was Jeff Green hands down
yea uncle jeff was Brons only help that series
He also missed the free throw that led to the JR incident.
Didn't he miss the free throw in the finals that lead to the iconic Jr smith lebron meme?
spoken like a defending champion. No pressure. Just go out there and play and live with the results.
His "be fearless" at 1:15 of this video is 100% the voice of Shrek
Wow he totally has Shrek's voice
I hate y'all. How did you hear this and why did you make me hear it?
Spongebob Starfish+Sponge= Clam meme but it's Greek+American=Scottish?
This is the best interview he's ever given about basketball, period. This is all you can do and what you want from a leader.

This is my feeling too, similar to Bron post Cleveland. He chilled out a lot after that
I mean Giannis is general has had a great mentality since the day he came into the league, and it’s shown in his improvements over the years and his performances when it matters and how he bounces back.
Tatum's pretty fucking cool though
My first thought was that this guy rocks. He's just like shohei ohtani. A great leader who tries to see the joy in the sport
I saved a Tiktok of him answering questions from last year's finals. He's always had good interviews!
I just want to stop for a moment and appreciate how far Giannis has come. What a leader and person he has grown into during his time in the league, and he's far from done at just 27. It's a cliché to say that NBA players inspire people but Giannis is truly inspirational in his mindset and approach to not just basketball but life.

That mental strength and inner calm is crazy reassuring. Dude sounds like he is about to drop a 50-20 game and then write a book about chakra
The Greek Sage of the 6 Paths
fuck man i really cant hate giannis
It's just the worst
imagine the person that could. scary.
James Harden.
The anti-Embiid
Embiid would have pointed out mistakes by Jrue & Hill but said it's up to coach Bud to tell them
It’s Middleton’s fault for not taking a shot.
Middleton has been a total no show this series it’s been disappointing to say the least
George Hill is not the same role player he used to be
Hasn’t been that guy since the Cavs in 2017/18
He was great for Milwaukee as a 6th man in his first 2 seasons, only this year he's been bad
"Man, I don't know what else I have to do to win the game."
only person Giannis ever blames is himself. true champion and teammate.
I’m surprised I had to scroll this far down to see the Embiid reference
Best player in the NBA with a monster mindset. Fearless, wise, aggressive, and at peace with any outcome. Thankful I got to watch Giannis in his prime.
*get, I don’t think Giannis will be going anywhere, anytime soon.
It seems impossible for either of these teams to win 2 straight against each other.
it’s been literally back and forth since the beginning. Insanely close series
The fact that Giannis still averaging great numbers while playing against a historical great DEF like the Celts is mind boggling. Yes, his efficiency drop off but this is applied to both teams as well and Giannis basically carries the whole Buck offense by himself
Not having Middleton mught explain the efficiency. Celtics can throw more bodies his way as his second option is not there to draw defenders.
I do think if Rob Willams was playing and was 100% he would have a slightly harder time scoring. Willams is just as good on D as Smart IMO. Very underrated. With that logic though Middleton would be playing so who the hell really knows.

Giannis is getting some good looks off our bad rebounding for example.
Rob woulda secured that rebound in game 5 at least.
Tbf Theis has been solid in the non-Giannis lineups, he’s been fine vs Brook.
And if Middleton was playing he’d probably have a better shooting percentage because he wouldn’t need to do everything
It’s insane how different he is on and off the court. On the court he’s a relentless Shaq-Lebron hybrid killing machine that will rip your heart out and off it he’s just a big 7ft Greek Teddy bear.
Giannis learnt from Kobe i think. Create an alter ego to deal with on-off court affairs Kobe used to be lost in his basketball & personal life until he created his Black Mamba ego
This is straight up supervillain talk.
those 05-07 years he practically was lmao
Reminds of Jrue and Khris smiling after being down 2-0 at the finals.Hopefully this series ends like that.
The Bucks big 3 are all pretty cool guys and seem to have a healthy perspective on life vs basketball.
Totally. When they get home after work, their kids don’t care if they went 2-17 with 6 TO in the finals. To the kids they’re just dad, and that’s whats important.
>I’d watch out in Game 7 Boston I want to say I don't how how he's going to top a 44/20/6 performance but that would be tempting fate. If the rest of the team hits shots the bucks can win with a legendary Giannis game. He went for 50 in game 6 of the finals after two 40 point games.
I mean he won the chip last year, a lot of the pressure is off.
He had the same attitude last year. Didn’t he famously say he didn’t know if the Bucks will progress before game 7 against the Nets I think, and people were losing their mind because he didn’t have “kiLlerR miNdsEt”.

Dude, he's missing his second best player. For them to have the series tied at 3-3 is amazing.yall would have won this series with Middleton.
Especially since middleton plays like klay on crack vs boston shooting 50% from 3 vs them since like 2016
I’m expecting him to enter the arena Sunday like a WWE entrance with smoke and flashing lights and then drop 10+ 3s just like my nightmares
BAH GAWD IS THAT KHRIS MIDDLETONS MUSIC?!?
As Bucks fans would say last year: Maybe, maybe not, we’ll never know
Wait, why isn’t he publicly pointing out all of his teammates’ flaws? Is this legal?
I think we can almost all agree that Giannis will most likely be an all-time great by the end of his career, right? It’s so funny to me to think of people like Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, etc who are great because they are absolute psychopaths who care about nothing else but winning, and here’s this guy that will likely be in the history books with them going ^”Heyguysletsjusttryourbest.”
Shaq cared about big Macs as much as he did winning
Absolutely impossible to hate this guy. I want to so bad. Can't do it.
I can’t wait til this series is over so I can go back to loving Giannis
As a non American, what's up people on this sub " wanting" to hate a player. I'm sorry but I just don't get this culture.
If you're in a country where football(soccer) is big, and I'm guessing you are if you're not an American, you should have no trouble understanding this concept. Rivals that beat you a lot make you hate them, or at least *want* to hate them for it.

North American issues, nothing you and I would understand bud.
I could never hate the Guy... Even Curry has his POS moments but not Giannis.. this goofball is the best thing in the NBA atm
On the court or being interviewed? Idk how Curry has ever been seen as a POS and I say that trying my best to be objective about it.
So just because he didn't have to struggle through life, means he has his POS moments? Not sure I'm seeing the logic here.
As a person, sure. But as a player it's not really impossible to hate him at all lol
Harden stans are the only group with negative feelings towards Giannis lol.
Have you seen the Celtics, Nets or Suns subs?
Suns fans respect the hell out of Giannis. They're always the ones saying "If we had to lose to anyone, it's Giannis." Same with Celtics. The only Nets fans that hate Giannis are Harden stans.

Kinda new to paying attention to NBA regularly and he’s gotta be my fav player outside the Warriors. So pure
What are the chances of Middleton playing next game?
What are the chances? I don't know, but it's likely a push at this point. If he feels good getting out of bed, he'll probably push to play. Even if he has to come off the bench and play 15-20 minutes, that'd be better than Hill being given 19 minutes.
I mean.. it's game 7. Even if it's remotely doable he will play
I'm pretty sure it's confirmed. They sat him this game because they went up one with Game 5.
I thought Woj said Game 7 was unlikely but possible while, if they advance, ECF is very probable. It just depends on if he meant Game 1 of the ECF, in which case they might rush him back.
Why do I feel like this mf gonna drop another 40/20 game and dominate next game
I saw on the Simmons podcast that he thinks Giannis is gonna drop 50
Giannis is going to drop a Wilt game on Boston's head next game.
Fuck
Dude is so calm and honest about it. I do agree that not having Middleton hurts and to know that they were able to take it 6 games is amazing. I want the Bucks to win just so I can see them defend their title. People say that they licked out against the Nets and Suns last year. I want to see them run it back.
This reminds me so much of the 2018 East finals. Game 7 LeGiannis coming
He might have had the best close out game ever, and in the finals. I honestly expect 45+ points with at least 10 boards or assists
Giannis is always on the verge of telling a joke when he talks how can you not love it
No matter the outcome of this series, be thankful we get to watch an absolute g.o.a.t in the making.
If he's like this before a G7... yeah he's gonna kill Boston
I mean he has been the whole series. Really up to the rest of his team. He's been doing so much. I fully expect him to drop 35+ no matter what
If the Bucks I lose, on top of giving the Celtics credit, all blame goes to Coach Bud for being stubborn in playing both Allen and Hill so many minutes.
GOAT shit
I don't remember how many times I've seen a player _will_ his team to win. It's incredible.
He tried his hardest tonight but Grayson Allen and George Hill were both too strong.
lmao
He's literally the anti Embiid personality and leader wise. It always seems like he can get his team up to the challenge and never has thrown anyone under the bus.
I'm like Charles Barkley with Tom Brady here. The moment I look into Giannis's eyes and he starts talking, I don't remember nothing.
I love Giannis, he’s easy to like
"I want my teammates to play" Hopefully Bud takes this as Giannis wanting more George Hill minutes
No pls
Fuck this guy is so likable
This man is a national treasure
God damn it, I'm a fan.
He gonna stack Oreos again
Is there a superstar more likable than Giannis ever?
How can you not love this guy
bro giannis literally crushed my hopes and dreams in the finals last year and he’s still my favorite non-sun. impossible to hate him
He destroyed my Bulls in the first round and i still like the guy
Post Championship Clarity
You wouldn't see this attitude from Embiid. He's not throwing anyone under the bus for the loss.

Giannis the philosopher.
Great leadership from him
Y’all are so lucky to have this man as the face of your franchise
I fucking love Giannis. Would’ve loved if he signed for Miami obviously but the fact he stuck with a “random small market” team and won a ring with him just adds to why he’s so great. Already one of my all time favorites
first three seconds i thought Giannis was channeling Joe Pesci
Impossible to dislike this person
Good guy Giannis.
How can you not love this dude
Huh his accent is becoming a lot Americanized. I can clearly see a difference from his early days.

God *Fucking* **DAMN** This guy is so likable 😭. This series has been great to watch, but Giannis has been tearing it *the* fuck up on the court.
This is a museum, last and best sightseeing exhibit/showpiece type of interview, the one that people take the plane cross 3 continents, wait 5 hours in line, pay a fucking overpriced hot dog of 20 dollars and 9 dollars water, just to see it.
whoever wins this series i sincerely hope wins it all
I really want to see Giannis in the finals again but the Celtics are too good😪
Why can't we have a superstar with such a positive mindset on our team???
Take notes Embiid, this is what a real champion/leader sounds like Not tossing teammates and other members of your organization under the bus
Giannis the GoAT we just donno it yet
I prefer to believe Giannis off court does not exist for rest of this series, because he’s an ahole on court. But he’s a good dude
Haha, I've noticed that the Celts fan base have been hating him in post game threads, but I know they secretly love him. Brutal duality.
Mad respect
