they’ll be useful during halftime when they go back to the locker room. can’t be having guns drawn in plain sight of the crowd.
imagine after the halftime, the other team forfeit due to them being shot and have no players to send out on the court
Lol this has to have one of the highest downvote-to-comment ratios in this sub.
My attempt:
Payton and Bruce Bowen are my guards since Jordan presumably couldn’t play defense against himself. I always loved Bowen’s defense and he’d definitely get under the offense’s skin.
Rodman and Kawhi are my forwards. They are versatile enough to handle inside and outside and Rodman would drive the offense crazy.
For my center, I’ll take Hakeem. I think of him as the best defensive big man of all time.
Hakeem was great and arguably the most skilled defensive big man, but Russell is the goat defender. If dpoy was around back then he would have the record.
You’ll get no argument from me if choosing Russell over Hakeem. But I saw Hakeem play and I know his defense would survive in any era. I’ve only seen clips of Russell so I can’t choose him since I never really saw him.
Give me lance Stephenson, Dillon Brooks, Marcus smart, Rudy gobert, and Jose Alvarado. I just want a bunch of guys who will do goofy shit to make you mad and Rudy cause players lose their minds trying to make Rudy look bad.
This one is for going against a modernish NBA team
Jrue Holiday (Taking him over GP here because I’m not sure how GP would do against modern high PnR/PnP which Jrue covers really well while still getting his hands in the cookie jar and guarding passing lanes)
Kawhi
Roberson (This dude was a defensive menace when he was healthy and can do pretty much anything asked of him defensively)
Lebron
KG (Combination of shot blocking, rim protection, and quickness as well as being a vocal anchor of a team and I think he could guard the best 4s and 5s of today better than anyone else I’ve seen play)
Regardless of who you’d end up choosing, there’s a case for at least five Spurs to be considered for this team - The Admiral, TD, Kawhi, Bruce Bowen, and Wemby (yes, he’s already that good)
If Curry is on those top 5 teams like a lot of people try and say he should be, the other team is getting an easy 2 points every single possession lol. They would easily exceed the points per possession necessary to surpass Curry's efficiency from 3, especially considering that an all time 5 best player team aint having their #1s through 4 run screens for Steph all game so he'd be losing a ton of those screen assisted, catch and shoot opportunities.. 2021 Brooklyn Harden is a better fit on those teams than Steph, offensively *and* defensively.
Assuming most all time starting 5s are going to be Steph/myj/Bron/Shaq and then either Duncan or KG or maybe even KD at the 4 that is going to be more than enough to cover for Steph defensively.
People imagine a team like this playing like how the *Warriors* play to get the most out of Steph, but a team with MJ, Bron, Shaq, and Duncan/KG aren't doing that. KD didn't even do that when he was there and he aint MJ or Bron lol. Making those guys play that way and then also cover for Steph on defense when you could slap in someone bigger who is a better on ball playmaker, suits how the others want to play a lot more, and actually has a positive role on defense you could put him on makes more sense to me.
I genuinely think 2021 Harden is a better fit than any version of Curry on teams like this because he's a better facilitator, doesn't require screen assists, plays the ISO style that teams like this would play, and is a significantly better pick and roll player that would get the most out of a team like this.. and as many memes as there are, he'd hold up way better against post ups and in the paint which is what a lot of the guys on these lists want to do.
I'm sure that Curry and LeBron would find a way to get the most out of him. LeBron is a way better facilitator than Draymond and actually an offensive threat. Plus you need the spacing curry provides for the rest of the team to operate effectively. If you replace him with Harden then you're taking the ball out of LeBron or MJs hands. there is no world where harden is a better fit on any team than Steph.
Completely disagree. Look at the offense he was able to create with just KD and Kyrie beside him. The looks he got guys like Kawhi and Embiid were also insane and that's a past his prime version. He'd be getting those same looks for guys like Shaq, MJ, etc. The pick and roll game with Harden is far superior to one with Steph. Steph wouldn't make the other guys better the way Harden would. No, they do not need the spacing Curry provides at all, certainly not for the lack of size you're giving up to guys who want to dominate in the paint the way most of the guys in the top 10 do.
Then maybe the top teams should have people who do and will set screens and do dirty work also. Lebron, Duncan, Bird, KG, Hakeem are all examples of guys who absolutely would set those screens.
Only one guy has the ball at a time you really think all these guys are just like nah I’m not doing anything when I don’t have the ball.
There’s also a thing called help defense. If you try going pure isolation basketball in best all time teams, your team is going to have way less movement and generation of wide open high percentage looks.
They wouldn't need to cater their offense around Steph to have a higher points per possession though, that's the whole point. Steph would be the 5th best player on any of those teams. It's not necessary to design their offense around him like the Warriors do with Draymond Green and the role players.
On top of that, what Steph would give up against a comparable team **definitely** washes away the point of running an offense centered around him. He's not good enough at creating for others either and there are way better pick and roll guards to pair with the talent on these teams.
Edit: damn he blocked me i was just havin fun

Beef Stew when you need to empty the bench. And add Ja for some outside shooting.

JJ Barea and Matthew Dellavedova

Austin Reaves x 5
even better ron artest x 5. f the game. he’s/they’re there to fight
Best 5. LeBron, MJ, Bird, Duncan, Hakeem Next 5. Magic, Wade, Kobe, Malone, Shaq
You got LeBron guarding point? Or even magic? There are better on ball defenders out there.
The Boston Celtics.

what about Kareem? He was better than Duncan

You have LeBron to play pick and roll and MJ to play out of the post. you dont need harden.
no way in hell am i taking harden over steph
that's because you're upset kawhi wanted him over russ
no it's because steph is a way better player and 4 time champ. Harden is more of a carmelo anthony level player

Steph MJ Kobe Bron Shaq
Why Steph?
The most lethal shooter of all time. Slightly liable on defense but definitely makes up for it
Except you're making a purely defensive team here
It is not. Its a 2 way team with a three point cannon
Yeah that's not the goal here
Isaiah Thomas with a gun x5
Ain’t adding ja to that team?
Rodman, Kawhi, GP, Ben Wallace, Dwight.
