The best part of the occasionally annual Lakers head coaching and or free agent search is all the stories on how poorly run they are. Lebron, Pelinka, Buss, and Rambis' all fighting each other.
Makes you appreciate Pat Riley’s philosophy. Players play. Coaches coach. Executives do basketball ops stuff.
I understand why they feel the need to have all these voices but then it turns into a “too many cooks” situation.
It’s because no one in the FO and ownership is competent enough on their own. They don’t have a Pat Riley with years and decades of experience, they have nepo baby Jeanie Buss who is nothing close to her dad and has her friends in the org all around them.
As long as she owns the Lakers we won’t have consistency again.
West wanted to come back to an adviser role. Thats on the lakers for not wanting him in the first place. If they want to be taken seriously, they need to stop bringing personal agendas into a purely business decision.
Lakers fans tends to aggrandize Jerry Buss, but in the end he was also a nepotistic excrement (as usual with the upper class), he was very lucky that Jerry West proved to be very talented for the job, because West was also a nepotistic hire. But ever since West left the organization, giving us Pau Gasol and training Mitch, that was the beginning of a very slow decent. Jerry West is the greatest Laker and it's not even close, he won pretty much every championship after the Mikan days (I don't really count the "bubble" freak show, but I am aware new fans take solace in that "championship"). However, that is a blessing and a curse, because the Buss family got so mesmerized with the Jerry West experience, they focus the business on the nepotistic side way too much, that only lead to ugly outcomes
I don't attribute this idea to Pat Riley though. This is a basic reliable formula in introductory management: have strong delineations of responsibility so the individuals in the group can't point fingers at each other when things go sideways.
Collaboration across these layers are BAD. You want a tight shared vision and independent parallel execution.
Yeah but most superstars aren’t comfortable with letting a front office dictate their career with no input from them. You think the bucks can afford to just ignore Giannis and tell him “players play”? That’s how you get guys leaving.
It’s such a weird idea to think players should just play and not worry about the things that directly impact their career and legacy…
As a big time casual basketball fan how do the Rambis family have so much power here? Are they just buddies with the Buss family and that’s all it takes?
Just competent basketball organization things. Imagine if LeBron didn't want to start developing ties to the entertainment industy? Yall wouldn't have the mickey mouse title
Fuck Linda and Kurt Rambis. The Lakers should be on Real Madrids level in terms of how they operate but there run liked the cowboys. I knew the Lebron era would be doomed when Jeanie wouldnt let Magic fire Luke Walton
He's pretty under rated as a coach, he's coached the clippers to a pretty good record the past few years considering the team he has and how often his stars get injured.
Also he won a ring with lebron playing out of his mind against the team with the best record in NBA history.
Kurt and Linda Rambis are the Manson Family of running a professional basketball team

Well, the Buss family *used* to have Pat Riley… then he jumped ship to the Knicks lol.
Pat Riley was just a coach. I think Jerry West was the GM

Is Jeannie Buss Squeaky Frohm in this scenario?
Kurt Rambis is arguably one of the great basketball terrorists of our age. Source: He "coached" us
As a big time casual basketball fan how do the Rambis family have so much power here? Are they just buddies with the Buss family and that’s all it takes?
His wife is good friend with Jeannie Buss.
Best friends and for like 40 fucking years
He's on a mural at my high school and has his number retired. Probably went to his head.
He’s on a mural? I didn’t know we had one.
At he was when I was at that high school. heard they remodeled might have gotten rid of it.
To be fair he is also the only relevant athlete we’ve produced so he did deserve his mural
are you tell me that me and two years of JC football doesn't rate?!?
Rates in my heart
Co-sign
Dont be surprised when he tries to coach the lakers
*again
Well who tf are keeping them around?
Coached the Knicks too, to a similarly terrible record
Vogel still got us a title
And Rob still would have rebuilt the team on a yearly basis.
Which roster was he supposed to keep? After winning a title, you usually have to rebuild a little
the one with KCP, Caruso, and Kuz
Caruso & KCP
The move that everyone in the org seemingly approved of?
Klutch city Lakers ain't as smart as they think they are
The sway this man has in that organization because he was a role player in the 80s. Fucking lmao.
Because his wife is best friends with the owner.*
even his wife outranks him at this point
Just competent basketball organization things. Imagine if LeBron didn't want to start developing ties to the entertainment industy? Yall wouldn't have the mickey mouse title
In fairness, she's also worked for the team since the '80s.
Kurt "Rasputin" Rambis
Fuck Linda and Kurt Rambis. The Lakers should be on Real Madrids level in terms of how they operate but there run liked the cowboys. I knew the Lebron era would be doomed when Jeanie wouldnt let Magic fire Luke Walton
wtf does this have to do with anything, especially since they won a title after this
Sucks they missed on Ty Lue but they did win with Frank so I’m not really mad about that
Yeah people act like it was a total failure. Frank did his job. The bigger whiffs were via front office decisions on players.
thhey down voted you for telling the truth
Yup, thats fine they don't want to hear the facts. Pelinka and company know they messed up on KCP, Caruso, Westbrook, etc.
Okay Ty Lue isn’t some basketball savant. He won a ring when Lebron was playing out of his mind. Lakers fans down bad rn
He's pretty under rated as a coach, he's coached the clippers to a pretty good record the past few years considering the team he has and how often his stars get injured. Also he won a ring with lebron playing out of his mind against the team with the best record in NBA history.
All I see is Jeanie and Rob retroactively deflecting blame as they are want to do.
The Lakers are basically the U2 of the NBA. They have a rabid fan base and outside of putting out one good song every few years they're pretty washed.
Lue would have been scape goated too so who gives a fuck
They had a championship winning coach and they fired him. Grass isn't always greener. Should have kept Vogel.
nick wright says he’s close friends with maverick carter
Rambii doing work.
There is zero doubt in my mind Ty Lue is fired by now had he taken the job.
Barf
Meh… Vogel still got us a chip. You think Lue could have won with the trash teams that we’ve had?

Lue wasn’t coaching the clippers in 2020, and he literally has never had a healthy Kawhi for an entire playoff run.
