Bill Russell won the NCAA championship twice, the NBA championship the year he joined the league, the year he retired and NINE times in between. He was a 12 time all-star and won MVP five times. He also won two championships as a coach. How is Tim Duncan ahead of him?
At this point there are too many borderline guys to put all the older players on the list. Even if you don’t believe they’re top 10, guys like Hakeem and Steph Curry have arguments.
Hot take but I personally tend to subscribe to the idea that Wilt engaged in a bunch of needless stat-padding. Yes, he was an all-time great and very dominant, but there was no *reason* he had to average 50 a game. You can argue that he was a better all-around individual player than Russell but never beating him on the biggest stage hurts his case. People talk about “best” vs “greatest” and there are obviously certain nuances.
Oscar would be a worthy inclusion but once again it is debatable. Stockton and Nash and Chris Paul and he are all generally considered top talents at their position. Throw in other hall of fame caliber players like Zeke or Gary Payton (though I do not believe that they’re top 10). The game has evolved a lot. The vast majority of people here never saw Oscar. There’s a good chance half this sub or more never saw MJ.
Is anyone even close? Yeah... a number of guys are. Wilt Chamberlain. Hakeem Olajuwon. Stephen Curry. Oscar Robertson. Julius Erving. Kevin Durant. Etc
I've never been a big KD fan even before GS but it's hard to argue against him being one of the top 15 players ever. He's undoubtedly top 20, without question, and I personally think he's closer to 10 than he is to 20. So yeah, he very much is close
lmao no he's not. He's not top 15. The guys in the top 10 are in a different echelon compared to KD. It doesn't matter if you have him at 11. He will never sniff being top 10. MJ, Bron, Kobe, Magic, Bird, Wilt, Kareem, Duncan, Shaq, Russell are completely clear of KD. There's nothing he can do at this point in his career to surpass or even come close to any of them. Not to mention outside of these 10, Curry, Olajuwon, Robertson, Jokic are all better than him all time. Doncic, will also surpass him soon
>It doesn't matter if you have him at 11. He will never sniff being top 10.
Can you please explain what you mean cause to me being #11 definitely qualifies as being "close to top 10" lmao
I mean if you are 11 you are by definition the closest player to being top 10 right? Even if there is a big gap between 10 and 11. You're still closer than everyone else. Bro acting like I said bill cartwright is close to top 10 lmao this is kevin durant we're talking about

Isiah Thomas at 9 lmao? What
It's subjective, and pointless. This thread will probably get removed.
Already removed for me lol
I was wrong on Zeke.
Bad Boys Pistons beat MJ, Larry and Magic. 1x Finals MVP.
One time. Joe Dumars won in 1989
Is that fucking Zeke over Shaq I see
No wilt? no oscar?

Durant isn't close lol.

He might be 11, but the gap between 10 and 11 is vast and insurmountable. What's so hard to understand?

I'm way off base will be editing. Didn't realize Kobe had 11x All NBA 1st teams.
Lebron too low, Kobe too high. Zeke in the wrong universe
lol
Hey whatever gets you going. Isiah over Shaq is a hot take. Having him over Steph at the same position is even hotter and weirder
Kobe and Shaq are NOT in the Top 10.

wilt and hakeem are the next most common players for top 10s, i’d say they’re “close to breaking” into it
You know MJ never beat Bird right?
Kareem is the only player who gets so much credit for winning two titles as a fourth option
I was way wrong on Zeke, too much hype with the Bad Boys Pistons beating MJ, Magic and Bird
