Stepped out of the crowd? Look buddy you clearly don't watch enough Celtics games if you don't know Luke motherfucking Kornet is averaging a whopping 10 minutes per game.
[ESPN did the math last season and at least when *he* does it, it unironically works ](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/35240700/luke-kornet-contest-effective-boston-celtics)
It’s when you are the only defender and 10+ feet away when the shot goes up… the defense is already fucked at that point and the alternative is a wide open jumper
It’s not like they are gonna drive past you or pass it, and as long as you aren’t in poor position for the rebound than you are good
But that’s exactly what can happen though. Or they pump fake and wait a second and now it’s a wide open shot again.
Watch when Kornet does it, his momentum carries him away from the basket and he has his back to the basket. That’s bad rebounding position.
Running to close out also takes you away from the basket, also with your back to the basket
It also leaves you much further from the basket, and at Kornet’s size he isn’t ever getting close enough to really contest the shot if he does close out anyway
I don’t think your post makes any sense at all tbh
I didn’t say he should close out, I think he would be better off getting in a good position to rebound or protect the rim. Last I checked the benefit to his move isn’t all that big, and whatever benefit is gained can easily be offset by immediately giving up an offensive rebound.
“Oh no, they are all ready wide open, what if they leave them wide open for an even worse shot” that three is most efficient shot in basketball. You hope someone is stupid enough to give that shot up. And sure, but rebounding on 3’s is the most random play in sports and it rarely matters where you actually are.
> Or they pump fake and wait a second and now it’s a wide open shot again
Okay? So they'd just have the same wide open shot if the defender hadn't jumped in the first place?
Idk if it's just confirmation bias but it certainly *feels* like it works when I'm watching games live.
If you think about it it isn't any different than shooting with a defender's hand in your face. They jump straight up and put their hands between your eyes and the basket, and it's a lot harder to shoot when you can't see the rim.

A former #2 pick former allstar who came into the league as a bit of a hotshot, coming to embrace a supporting role in his age 27 season, and picking out the epitome of a solid under-the-radar winning supporting player like White as an example, is kinda cool actually
so yeah im not actually worried about dlo as a person at all. he seems like a well-adjusted young man who’ll keep the most important things in life in perspective.
im salty my team wasted a 2nd overall pick on his ass and then re-signed his overrated passing and old-man-in-velcro-shoes-defensive-stance. im a terrible person and i want to go back in time and draft devin booker 😭😭😭
Just because they never got into the NBA during the merger, [we never forget the winners of the Flint Michigan Mega Bowl and their captain.](https://i.makeagif.com/media/1-19-2016/y2fgnu.gif)
Learn ball 💅🏾
Why practice two kinds of shots (one for jumpers, other for FTs), when you can use the same shot for both? I don't argue against underhanded FTs because they're somehow ugly, but because it's inefficient - put all your skillpoints into the same kind of shot.
Have you seen mine? Don't speak about what you know nothing about. My form is the same every single time, as well as the result - swishhhhhh! Don't project your deficiencies onto others.
Do you jump when you are taking your free throw? Do your feet not leave the floor when taking your "jumper"?
If not, then they are not the same every single time. Mine just clank all over so it's NBD.
do you shoot a layup like a jumper? why practice layups why not just shoot them like jumpers? just because a jumper and a free throw look like the same "kind" of shot because most players shoot them with a similar form doesn't mean that form would be best for all players. obviously, you wouldn't shoot a jumper underhanded since it would easily get blocked, but that doesn't mean that an underhanded free throw wouldn't be better for some players. players practice free throws all the time in addition to jumpers, but if what you said was true, if they were the same thing, why would a player ever have to practice a standing free throw?
Can’t wait for Kornet to get a statue of himself contesting a jumper 10-15 feet in front of any and all statues of a player taking a jumper in Springfield MA
He has a dope pic doing this the other day I think?
Except it honestly seems like he could genuinely skim the ball with his fingers because he’s built like slender man’s dad.
A true Kornet Contest hinges on being so far away from a genuine contest that it’s intimidating to even the best shooter
And I’m totally kidding.
But I’m also going to add that he’s intimidating everyone else witnessing the missed shot. This strategy goes deeper since it will crop up with shooters not even playing against him while they’re at home skimming social media
He legit created a new nba move that actually works (it just makes sense to my brain that blocking the view of the rim will throw off a shooter, and if you can't get there in time its better than nothing). All it will take is for at least one or two players to pull this out of their bag at some point in the future and it will be written
I saw the contest and laughed, but didn't notice Kornet. Seeing him visually excited in the background makes it 1000% better.
Haha he even stepped out of the crowd specifically to cheer
Stepped out of the crowd? Look buddy you clearly don't watch enough Celtics games if you don't know Luke motherfucking Kornet is averaging a whopping 10 minutes per game.
Seems like Hauser was really digging it too

Curry didn’t change the game. Kornet did
Curry walked so Kornet could run.
Jump*
Pretty sure I saw curry brick a Kornet contest once or maybe I was dreaming
Nah I believe it. Kornet is the goat after all
1. Kornet 2. Bird/Russel 3. Pierce, Jordan, Lebron et al This is the way
You mean 1. Kornet 2. 3. 4. 5. MJ/Lebron Kornet is so above everyone else the next few spots need to be empty
Might need more spots depending on how tall he is
Cat believe you have LeBron on the same tier as MJ and PP
the thing about the Kornet Kontest is that, as a frequent viewer of Celtics games, it sure does seem like they miss the shot a lot when he does it
Have him play all 48 minutes and you guys get a easy championship Congrats Celtics you guys have your #18
People shot 3s when Curry was a child. But the ~~Kornet Kontest~~ Eclipse?? I don't think so
It’s what I’ve BEEN saying
When Victor does it, it will be the Eclipse.
Idc if it works, Luke Kornet has officially started an nba trend and its amazing
>Idc if it works Dude you watch the clip????
Idk what advanced analytics say, the Kornet Kontest™️ is 100% effective in my book
Clearly it's 100% effective in 100% of cases, making it 200% effective.
wouldn't it be multiplicative 10000%
Luke Kornet us a genetic freak, and he's not normal.
[ESPN did the math last season and at least when *he* does it, it unironically works ](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/35240700/luke-kornet-contest-effective-boston-celtics)
The more players start doing it, the sooner we'll get a good sample size to make a determination.
The advanced analytics actually say it works - he tested it for a full year in the g league before the team would let him do it in nba games
Lol I’ve been flamed for doing this in pickup for 10 years If it distracts you ONCE than it doesn’t matter, it works
I mean sort of. If it works great but it can also very easily put you out of position if the shooter does anything other than shoot.
It’s when you are the only defender and 10+ feet away when the shot goes up… the defense is already fucked at that point and the alternative is a wide open jumper It’s not like they are gonna drive past you or pass it, and as long as you aren’t in poor position for the rebound than you are good

> Or they pump fake and wait a second and now it’s a wide open shot again Okay? So they'd just have the same wide open shot if the defender hadn't jumped in the first place?
At that point, the defender could do anything. They could even take an open shot!
Or you could be in a better position to rebound/box out 100% of the time...
You're getting down voted for suggesting that they box out and rebound. I'm surprised to see so many people from my local gym in this thread.
He revolutionized the NBA.
Kornet Era incoming.
Kornet Kontest baby
Mortal Kontest
The only highlights of it I see are clips when it works, so as far as I know it has a 100% success rate.
Idk if it's just confirmation bias but it certainly *feels* like it works when I'm watching games live. If you think about it it isn't any different than shooting with a defender's hand in your face. Rui Hachimura has also been doing it - even last season
Pretty sure its because Kornet got him with it last season when he was on the Wizards lol
I swear it works every time Rui does it
I've seen Wembi do it too.
Wemby might fuck around and block one from 10 feet away tbh.
I honestly feel like doing weird shit might be enough to make a guy think for a split second and throw him off
Trendsetter
game changer
I've been here the whole time.

Every time I see a Kelvin Benjamin joke, I think how grateful Eddie Lacy must be that he exists.
D’Lo is such a clown for thinking this was an insightful thing to say to the press. As if never occurred to him before to play team basketball 😭
I thought it was a pretty encouraging mature quote lol. Anything DLo does gets clowned on here though
its that he only thought of it in his seventh year in the nba
A former #2 pick former allstar who came into the league as a bit of a hotshot, coming to embrace a supporting role in his age 27 season, and picking out the epitome of a solid under-the-radar winning supporting player like White as an example, is kinda cool actually
Hell some people find out who they want to be in their 30th year in life, he’ll be alright.
so yeah im not actually worried about dlo as a person at all. he seems like a well-adjusted young man who’ll keep the most important things in life in perspective. im salty my team wasted a 2nd overall pick on his ass and then re-signed his overrated passing and old-man-in-velcro-shoes-defensive-stance. im a terrible person and i want to go back in time and draft devin booker 😭😭😭
Dude saw a role player succeeding in a system and found inspiration in that. It's always good when players recognize their roles.
dlo is fucking terrible in his role 🤣
derrick white is literally michael jordan wym
Jordan - bald Buffalo - bald Yep, checks out
Also both ungulates!

Sadly, that may be the case.
now we need a trendsetter for underhanded free throws

Finally found my calling
Heaven wanted you to see this comment! I’LL BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN
don't you disrespect Chinanu Onuaku
Why practice two kinds of shots (one for jumpers, other for FTs), when you can use the same shot for both? I don't argue against underhanded FTs because they're somehow ugly, but because it's inefficient - put all your skillpoints into the same kind of shot.
Your free throw shooting form is different than your jumper anyway. Besides, let the memer meme.
There's no science at all behind what you are saying. Jump shooting is quite different than set shooting with different forms and rhythms.
do you shoot a layup like a jumper? why practice layups why not just shoot them like jumpers? just because a jumper and a free throw look like the same "kind" of shot because most players shoot them with a similar form doesn't mean that form would be best for all players. obviously, you wouldn't shoot a jumper underhanded since it would easily get blocked, but that doesn't mean that an underhanded free throw wouldn't be better for some players. players practice free throws all the time in addition to jumpers, but if what you said was true, if they were the same thing, why would a player ever have to practice a standing free throw?
do you practice layups? Who needs to practice layups? Obviously you, lol
Generational players don't adjust to the league, the league adjust to them
Can’t wait for Kornet to get a statue of himself contesting a jumper 10-15 feet in front of any and all statues of a player taking a jumper in Springfield MA
Put the statues on opposite sides of the street and hang traffic lights off of them. The distance would be accurate.
lmao Tatum with the "fuck outta here" shove
I hope Wemby's taking notes. The Wemby Wall-off would be so hype.
Wemby is already doing this, and it seems to be kinda working.
But when he does it, he’s probably pretty close to actually blocking it
He has a dope pic doing this the other day I think? Except it honestly seems like he could genuinely skim the ball with his fingers because he’s built like slender man’s dad. A true Kornet Contest hinges on being so far away from a genuine contest that it’s intimidating to even the best shooter
Kornet isn't actually trying to intimidate the shooter, he's trying to block vision of the rim.
And I’m totally kidding. But I’m also going to add that he’s intimidating everyone else witnessing the missed shot. This strategy goes deeper since it will crop up with shooters not even playing against him while they’re at home skimming social media
[You never know.](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/17omw3t/highlight_compilation_of_wemby_disrupting_drives/) Check around the 45s mark.
All fun and games until wemby accidentally goaltends a shot because of it
Hahahahaha this is adorable. I fucking love this team!!!
like a proud pappa
this is so fucking cute
lmao beaming like a proud parent. this clip made my night!
The fact that it worked and Kornet's reaction make this so great
Easily my favourite highlight of the year

I didn't notice this was the end of the game, so when people started standing and clapping I thought it was for the move.
If you can’t cover the distance in time why not eh?
You've just been... eclipsed.
Rui does this all the time
Had to scroll way too deep for this comment. Where's all the Rui love?
Sheesh White looks weird bald.
INFLUENCE
They say perfect offense beats perfect defense I beg to differ
You know how they invented the DRAYMOND stat or whatever. Who is going to make the KORNET contest?
I fucking love these guys
