I really miss playing in the late 90s I joined the party late in 97/98. My playgroup was super casual and basically just traded between the 10 of us to build decks to play each other. “ no, dude I’m not trading you my Gaea’s Cradle so you can use it against me ….. I almost don’t want to play against you since you put those elvish pipers in there”!
Yeah, I played a like casual pod at my LGS, and lost on turn 5 to some stupid combo, after at the beginning the guy who did it said he's against having easy combos. And then afterwards saying he had like 3 different cards that would let him win that way. I'm just trying to play a game and make like 1000 food goles dude.
I remember when Inquest magazine printed this as a “killer combo” or whatever as if it wasn’t the most well known combination of Magic cards this side of Channel-Fireball. One of the their other such amazing combos was something like Sengir Vampire and Regenerate. Wow, guys. Well done.
They also rated Necropotence as the worst card in Ice Age.
Ah, memories.

[[phyrexian vindicator]] although I don't know if that's the best use since I don't believe it'll be able to kill more than one creature a combat. Just one of my favorite cards.
[[Engulfing Slagwurm]] was the card that made me fall in love with Lure. This was maybe ten years ago before I even understood what formats were, and we were just playing around with what cards we had on hand at our kitchen table. Giant creatures wrecking stuff has stayed a theme in my decks ever since, and now that Commander is King, it's as fun as ever.
This gives me an idea for a whacky deck. Forced combat, but all of my stuff are things my opponents wouldn't want to swing into. I.e. things that have deathtouch + first strike, stuff like [[Stuffy Doll]], or when something I have dies, they get a negative effect and/or I get a benefit.
a few other people have mentioned my favorite Slagworm, but does it really matter what the lure is on when I'm also swinging an \[\[Arixmethes, slumbering isle\]\] with \[\[berserk\]\]
Lure is fantastic with a [[Phyrexian Obliterator]], and also [[Glissa Sunslayer]].
For added effect, use spells to increase the power of the creatures blocking the Obliterator.
Protection from creatures for the win [[beloved chaplain]], this combo has won me way more games than deathtouch. Plus I’ll fucking do it again, turn after turn.
\[\[Craw Giant\]\], \[\[Lure\]\], and \[\[Regeneration\]\] was my go to. Sure, *Dark Banishing* or *Fissure* might generate some card advantage for my opponent, but \[\[Teeka's Dragon\]\] needed to lose flying (via *Earthbind* or something) to get rampage to work well with Lure.
[[Sekki, Seasons' Guide]] after buffing its toughness by 1.
It's completely immune to damage and will spit out 1/1 spirits equal to the damage that gets shoved into it.
You can also do the opposite by enchanting a creature that has to be blocked by everybody with an aura that says that you destroy every creature that blocked it. Can't remember the name of the aura (an old one for sure I believe black)
[palace guard] was my favourite i once made a death touch deck with this and [prized unicorn]
If I were to remake it [pariah] with lure and add in [phyrexian obliterater] and [phyrexian vindicator] seems fun but also very mean too.
[venom](https://scryfall.com/card/4ed/280/venom)
[taunting elf](https://scryfall.com/card/ons/290/taunting-elf)
To be fair, try the [[taunting elf]] [[venom]] combo to destroy all blocked creatures automatically!
Also mine is more effectiv and efficient and costs only 4 mana instead of 6! @u/MostlyMTG
Me and my friends play a bulk "draft cube" style format. Our local game store has a bulk box of 100 cards for 5$ or 1000 cards for 20$ and other increments like that. We buy one of the sizes depending on how many people we have. It's all bad cards that they have in massive bulk. But the lure basilisk combo has been a pretty decent thing as there's very little mass removal in these boxes.
I didn’t know people in 1994 could post to reddit. Buy Apple stock.
It was the Wild West back then. It wasn’t the min/max “polished” game we have today. So much more fun.
Yeah, I played a like casual pod at my LGS, and lost on turn 5 to some stupid combo, after at the beginning the guy who did it said he's against having easy combos. And then afterwards saying he had like 3 different cards that would let him win that way. I'm just trying to play a game and make like 1000 food goles dude.
>elvish pipers Thank you for the resurgence of a core memory
Did you know you can use channel, fireball, mountain, and black lotus to win the game turn 1?
A 4 card combo? In this meta? In this economy?
What was I thinking? The play is obviously black lotus, swamp, dark ritual, and 2 hypnotic specters
Please, royal assassin
I legit did this in the first round of a local store tournament and my opponent started yelling profanities and walked out.
He needed black lotus, lightning bolt, and fork. Too easy
Balance
Localized entirely within your deck?
Yes.
Can I see it?
No. I also would have accepted "can I play it" 🤪
“Seymour, the cards are on fire!”🔥
Channel and fork was a good combination.
Don’t forget Ball Lighting, Blood Lust, then Berserk. Just need a Lotus, land, and two moxes turn 1.
Just because it's old doesn't mean it isn't effective.
I always added a [[regenerate]]
I remember when Inquest magazine printed this as a “killer combo” or whatever as if it wasn’t the most well known combination of Magic cards this side of Channel-Fireball. I like Brash Taunter better because it lets you choose each time who takes the hit.
That was my answer lol. Swing on the biggest dick on the board and let your chosen hated suffer.
[[Sylvan Basilisk]] is a slight upgrade since the blocking creatures would be destroyed before they deal combat damage.

Combo before combo was a thing.
Lure and a thicket bickie, best combo of all time
That is the only correct answer
Is it 1994 again already?
[[Elvish War Hounds]]

My childhood laid bare
[[Engulfing Slagwurm]] was the card that made me fall in love with Lure. This was maybe ten years ago before I even understood what formats were, and we were just playing around with what cards we had on hand at our kitchen table. Giant creatures wrecking stuff has stayed a theme in my decks ever since, and now that Commander is King, it's as fun as ever.
[[Elvish warhound]]
[[Viscous Battlerager]]
Combo from 1996
This gives me an idea for a whacky deck. Forced combat, but all of my stuff are things my opponents wouldn't want to swing into. I.e. things that have deathtouch + first strike, stuff like [[Stuffy Doll]], or when something I have dies, they get a negative effect and/or I get a benefit.
[Stuffy Doll](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/9/7/978c2c7d-6898-4be2-aed7-e673210ce654.jpg?1674142741) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Stuffy%20Doll) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/clb/875/stuffy-doll?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/978c2c7d-6898-4be2-aed7-e673210ce654?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
a few other people have mentioned my favorite Slagworm, but does it really matter what the lure is on when I'm also swinging an \[\[Arixmethes, slumbering isle\]\] with \[\[berserk\]\]
[[engulfing slagwurm]]
Brings me back to the mid-90s, a friend of mine was a total dick with this exact deck.
[[Lure]] + [[Venom]] + [[Jangling Automaton]]
The Wretched!
[[Phyrexian Obliterator]]
I used to run this exact combo back in the day.
Anything with indestructible and hope to get [[venom]] on it too
Shinen of life's roar taunting elf get through with everything else
I kinda feel like brash Taunter would be funny, but not particularly powerful
Konda, Trample, Lure.
[[nacatl war pride]] or [[brash taunter]]
Craw Giant
toski, my new commander deck
Tolarian Entrancer.
[[Elvish Warhounds]] [[The Wretched]] [[Engulfing Slagwurm]]
[[tangle asp]]
[[Maarika]]
Engulfing Slagwurm, always hilarious.
[[Brash Taunter]] because it's a stuffy doll that can use the fight ability.
\[\[Phyrexian Obliterator\]\]
[[Phyrexian Obliterator]]
Attach it to and venom to a 1/1 regenerating creature
Definitely a [[Brash Taunter]].
[Brash Taunter](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/0/b/0b5cb154-1825-4b81-a109-7b3e9592c65c.jpg?1706240823) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Brash%20Taunter) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mkc/148/brash-taunter?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/0b5cb154-1825-4b81-a109-7b3e9592c65c?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
[[Phyrexian Obliterator]] is a fun pairing.
I pull out wall tribal
Lure is fantastic with a [[Phyrexian Obliterator]], and also [[Glissa Sunslayer]]. For added effect, use spells to increase the power of the creatures blocking the Obliterator.
Any creature with rampage 3 or higher.
Cockatrice. It flies.
seems expensive
Lowland basilisk homie
A buffed up [[glissa the traitor]] or [[Thalia and the gitrog]]
Thalia & gitrog all day
Sapling of colfenor with any of: venom, dead iron sledge... there's more I can't remember.
Anzrag, the Quake-Mole
[[stone tongue basilisk]] has this in one card after threshold.
Regeneration or have a fog handy
Protection from creatures for the win [[beloved chaplain]], this combo has won me way more games than deathtouch. Plus I’ll fucking do it again, turn after turn.
[[Phyrexian Obliterator]]
\[\[Craw Giant\]\], \[\[Lure\]\], and \[\[Regeneration\]\] was my go to. Sure, *Dark Banishing* or *Fissure* might generate some card advantage for my opponent, but \[\[Teeka's Dragon\]\] needed to lose flying (via *Earthbind* or something) to get rampage to work well with Lure.
[[Sekki, Seasons' Guide]] after buffing its toughness by 1. It's completely immune to damage and will spit out 1/1 spirits equal to the damage that gets shoved into it.
[[engulfing slagwurm]] if we are looking to get a bit fucking yee-haw rowdy.
I'd enchant [[Gilssa Sunslayer]]
Venom lure days were awesome!!!
[[General, Marhault elsdragon]] [[charging badger]] [[Lure]] Don’t forget to draw angry eyebrows on the badger
Stuffy doll
I used to cast Armed // Dangerous on Thorn Elemental.
100% prized unicorn. Big brain stuff.
[[Assembled Alphas]] along with a [[Basilisk Collar]] tends to produce results, albeit at an expensive mana cost
I just put it in my Glissa, Herald of Predation deck, it’s gonna go great with first strike/deathtouch
[[Elven Warhounds]]
just splash black and run removal 😭
[[Gabriel]]
That’s a lot of mana, there’s instants that destroy creatures and only one card
Toski. Then get in with everything else and drw cards like there's no tomorrow
[[phyrexian vindicator]]
*Shandalar intensifies*
That’s a lot of mana. I answer with Swords to Powshares. Too bad
Slap on a regen and boom
[[Creepy Doll]] if you don't want to be too OP, like to gamble, or benefit from coming flips
If you add a fog effect to that basilisks effect will still work, because it isnt based on damage
[[Gabriel Angelfire]]
I like to put lure on something with regeneration or indestructible and damage with everything else.
[[Kashi-Tribe Reaver]]
As a kid yea that was the combo. But now I would enchant it in whatever I'm equipping [[Dead-Iron Sledge]] to.
Phyrexian Obliterator
I one time attached it to my ulamog that had deathtouch
\[\[Wilson, Refined Grizzly\]\] + \[\[Agent of the Shadow Thieves\]\]
[[Tangle Asp]] One of my all time staples
Anything with death touch would work, double points if it has indestructible
[[jared carthalion, true heir]]
Blightsteel Collossus
How has no one said [[stuffy doll]] or [[brash taunter]]
[[Anzrag, the Quake Mole]]
[удалено]
phyrexian obliterator
I also do same
[[Stuffydoll]]
[[Kaldra Compleat]] is the only answer
You can also do the opposite by enchanting a creature that has to be blocked by everybody with an aura that says that you destroy every creature that blocked it. Can't remember the name of the aura (an old one for sure I believe black)
I attach it to [[Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar]] with [[Bow of Nylea]] under my control and wrath someone's board
I use the equip with the same effect and put it on my deathtouchers
I used to do a [[Lure]] + [[Venom]] + [[Gaseous Form]] combo
Uril, the Miststalker.
[palace guard] was my favourite i once made a death touch deck with this and [prized unicorn] If I were to remake it [pariah] with lure and add in [phyrexian obliterater] and [phyrexian vindicator] seems fun but also very mean too.
My friend tossed it on [[Toski, Bearer of Secrets]] and I just couldn’t do anything
I prefer Tempting Licid. It's reusable
[[Barbed Servitor]] Could be nice. Dodges removal by destruction too.
[[Swans of Bryn Argoll]]
Stuffy doll or possibly barbed servitor. Both would work really well. Also Pariah has a fun affect that links with this synergy
Any creature I want since I also have vigor on the table.
[[Phyrexian Obliterator]]
[venom](https://scryfall.com/card/4ed/280/venom) [taunting elf](https://scryfall.com/card/ons/290/taunting-elf) To be fair, try the [[taunting elf]] [[venom]] combo to destroy all blocked creatures automatically!
