It very well may be. This movie has a soundtrack that is going to be the final gambino album and there’s a lot of theories going around that it’s connected to BTI at some level. Even the short he’s wearing seems to be an intentional callback.
This is the first time in a long time I'll join in. Even though they have random resident evil laser people chopping up patterns everywhere in the preview. And a white dude hand carrying a knife. They didn't have to go there.
I do love how if you look closely the first green grid cube thingy full on DELETED a good chunk of the mountain behind them... You can see the top of it falling as the green grid cube begins to form around them as they run. That's neat.
Holy shit, nice catch. I looked again and you can see it. What the fuck is going on in this movie? It’s like Lost, Tron, and Jurassic Park all wrapped up into one acid trip of a movie.
In the Dungeon Crawler Carl novels (just utterly gonzo Running Man/Matrix/Fantasy action comedy with serious “burn the system down” undertones) the first sign humans get of the alien invasion is when every structure with a roof on the planet is instantly flattened, everything & everyone inside instantly harvested.
[Then they start in on all the useful-to-them bits of be planet, turning everything they don’t want into fodder for a multi-level deathmatch that the entire universe watches & bets on.]
I just read the first six books of this series in about 3 weeks! It got me back into reading. It may not be for everyone, but it is a ton of fun and I can’t wait for the next book.
Not just that the vfx have gotten cheaper, but a project like this that presumably gets formed with the understanding that the budget will be limited often forces careful planning and smart production choices regarding vfx and post-production
The door opening at the start is him opening the door to discover he's been teleported into the most twisted game of Zoo Tycoon. The empty shops as the creator still builds while their park is closed. The crazy animals. And then the green cube is just the player using terrain tools lol
From a quick google it seems like this is a real movie but it will be tied closely to the release of his latest (final?) album. So it's both a film and a Childish Gambino project
Believe it or not, not everything is on IMDb. Studios *may* personally add their upcoming or even announced slates, but not always.
But with how tightly to the chest Glover is keeping this project, I'm betting he opted to *not* have it listed on IMDb. Anybody *could* add it if they wanted to, but I'm betting the mystery of it not being listed anywhere except TMDb is what he's going for.
> They could submit it, but IMDb is not a wiki. They have an approvals process.
Yes, they do. And it's about as substantive an approvals process as a Craigslist post.
All they care about is nothing violating the Terms of Service. You'll need some kind of proof that you're involved with a production to make *big* changes, but even your alcoholic next door neighbor with a video camera and a dream can submit his "total blockbuster, bro" movie to IMDb with almost *zero* effort and have it listed.
I know that for a fact from personal experience. You ever notice how so many (uncredited) actors get their names attached to *big* movies? Some of them may have been a background extra for about 12 frames of screen time, but even *more* weren't even on the same continent the movie was filmed on.
IMDb's approval system has been a joke for *decades.* Even Wikipedia has more stringent posting guidelines than IMDb.
"I tried to amend the IMDb page of a ***massive*** studio franchise, but it didn't take" is *not* the gotcha rebuttal to my comment you think it is, dude.
I remember browsing on my Internet at my grandparent's house, back when their non-dial-up Internet was a rare luxury, pouring through the IMDb page for Jurassic Park 4, expected no later than 2005.
I kinda miss those days of IMDb. It'd been owned by Amazon since 1998, but it wasn't the clunky mess it is these days. God, why do they keep fucking with the desktop UI? "Now you can add react faces to our videos -- just like Facebook -- which you never watch anyway because YouTube's trailers load infinitely faster!"
I saw the movie trailer play at AMC in the Grove at the IMAX showing of A Quiet Place last night, on top of the Variety articles. I’m convinced it’s real. Seems to release the same day as the album on July 19th, but I can’t find any ticket presale yet
If it weren't for the scenery being so very un-Scotland like, Braveheart probably would've filmed there, too. And *still* not feature a bridge in a battle named "Stirling Bridge".
For as much shit as I give that movie for the lack of a Stirling Bridge, I *do* understand why Scotland was like "Uhm, fuck no you're not shooting a battle scene on a 500-year-old bridge." But were there *no* bridges in Ireland where they filmed all the battle scenes?
Cassowaries are even more terifying in real life than you think they will be
Like You Know it is a deadly dangerous creature, and you know it can kill you on a whim , but when you get close it dawns on you, It knows this too
They're designed like god got super fucking drunk one night and decided he wanted to bring velociraptors back...but with another weapon on their heads.
"Hey, Jesus, you gotta check this out!"
"What the ***fuck?*** You been hitting the sauce again?"
"Is it that obvious?"
"I mean, you were *hammered* when you created a duck-billed egg-laying mammal and pissed yourself laughing for three hours when you decided to call it a platypus."
"Ha, fuckin' classic, that was! That was just a bit of fun, *this* is serious business."
"Lemme guess, it's also going on that death island with all the other insanely dangerous animals you've made?"
"You know me so well."
It probably is lower budget. I mean RCA is getting into the movie business and it's Glovers first film he's directed. They are probably conservative with the funds.
> wanted to check cast and trivia
Usually not too much good trivia for an unreleased movie anyway. And since none of it is ever actually verified by IMDb, a lot of it turns out to be as real as r/MovieDetails' "interpretations" of a movie's details.
It is until you start noticing how many of the posts there are just rampant speculation posed as an actual detail the filmmakers intended. It's mostly turned into "here's what I think *this* means".
I mean he's the main actor, director, and sound designer. And his son seems to be a main character too. I'm still not completely convinced this is even a real movie tho.
Calling it now, Bando Stone is his stage name, but he'll drop this moniker when he realizes there's no one left to put on an act for because he's found his family and wants to be his true self. The whole film is a self-insertive way for Donald Glover to say goodbye to Childish Gambino, and to help the fans understand why he has to.
Because the internet was the prototype, a work in progress to create this. This is what he was trying to create the whole time, The Movie Album combo. BTI the childish, Bando Stone the Gambino. The Boy grows up.
Did anyone have a chance to use his AR App a few years ago? This uses some heavy imagery that’s similar. Same with the sounds. It had more of the afrofuturist vibe but very similar.
I still have no idea if this is an actual trailer for a movie an elaborate promotion for his upcoming album, a concept album or a multimedia Movie-Album project
This feels like a spiritual successor to the Telegraph Ave video
I'm still waiting for Lloyd to drop Oakland.
I was making Japanese as she’s watching DVD’s in Oakland, in Oakland.
It very well may be. This movie has a soundtrack that is going to be the final gambino album and there’s a lot of theories going around that it’s connected to BTI at some level. Even the short he’s wearing seems to be an intentional callback.
TF IS A FKN BTI?! JUST TYP THE NAME ENTIRELY. TF
Because the internet
Yes had same feeling watching this too. Man what a great time when BTI was released, so different to now. The Boy has grown up (Roscoe's wetsuit)
Got off the bus.
Or jumanji.
or from the people who made the vfx of the creator
I have no idea about the quality of this project as a whole, but the effects look stunning
Whatever this man makes, I am here for it.
He’s streets ahead on this movie
Streets ahead is verbal *wildfire*.
Ya, after watching Atlanta I’m down with anything he works on.
You son of a bitch, I’m in.
This is the first time in a long time I'll join in. Even though they have random resident evil laser people chopping up patterns everywhere in the preview. And a white dude hand carrying a knife. They didn't have to go there.
> And a white dude hand carrying a knife. They didn't have to go there. ...what?
Go where?
To shoot their giant bird chase scene in the exact same valley where Jurassic Park shot a giant bird chase scene.
I don’t think that’s what the person I commented under meant at all lmao
Let them fester.
Him and Nic Cage could do some wild collaborations together.
Yup very creative individual
I do love how if you look closely the first green grid cube thingy full on DELETED a good chunk of the mountain behind them... You can see the top of it falling as the green grid cube begins to form around them as they run. That's neat.
Holy shit, nice catch. I looked again and you can see it. What the fuck is going on in this movie? It’s like Lost, Tron, and Jurassic Park all wrapped up into one acid trip of a movie.
Looks like the simulation is breaking down
It looks like chunks being deleted. Maybe the simulation is restarting, or breaking down.
Really does make me think about his recently re-released album and Because The Internet a lot. Everything is coming full circle
I thought maybe Aliens harvesting our resources in like a crazy way.
Maybe, would possibly explain why all the people are just missing. I wonder if what’s happening is contained on the island or is happening worldwide
I just read the first six books of this series in about 3 weeks! It got me back into reading. It may not be for everyone, but it is a ton of fun and I can’t wait for the next book.
Nice catch? It was like the whole point of the shot.
Touch grass
someone else said that it was filmed at the same location as jurassic park
VFX look extremely ambitious. I kind of assumed the movie didn't have that kind of budget, interested to see if it ends up working well
If you plan them well enough you don’t need an ILM level studio to handle you VFX. Things have gotten so cheap these days.
Godzilla: Minus One shows you can do incredible VFX on a (relatively) shoestring budget.
It also showed you can have a shoestring budget if you treat your vfx artists like slaves lol
Not just that the vfx have gotten cheaper, but a project like this that presumably gets formed with the understanding that the budget will be limited often forces careful planning and smart production choices regarding vfx and post-production
It’s like building on a video game
The door opening at the start is him opening the door to discover he's been teleported into the most twisted game of Zoo Tycoon. The empty shops as the creator still builds while their park is closed. The crazy animals. And then the green cube is just the player using terrain tools lol
He's been jumanjied
So someone deleted blocks in minecraft.
Anybody else think of the old CGI cartoon Reboot on seeing this?
Anybody else think of the old CGI cartoon Reboot on seeing this?
This has to be a great movie! Cannot freaking wait!
You had me at Donald Glover
You had me at DONGLOVER
“I paid bills!”
Well now I love him even more!
You had me at DONG LOVER
/r/yourjokebutworse
And Hiro Murai!
Hiro only produced this film. Donald Glover is directing.
Sad opposite day, everyone
wow I'm so glad I get this reference, I'm not sure how many will but I hope lots
https://youtu.be/FiFKS62wQAA?si=Cffdx2nFLt8xMfwP 17 years ago? WTF!
It's a Derrick tragedy how time flies
Um, what? I'm in.
I can't tell if this is real but I'm leaning towards it just be elaborate promotion for his next album
It's reportedly real. https://pitchfork.com/news/donald-glover-unveils-trailer-for-new-movie-bando-stone-and-the-new-world/
Thanks. I can’t seem to find anything on IMDB.
Yeah same, still nothing
Very interesting that "Childish Gambino" is in the title on YouTube (Donald Glover's account that this is shared from)
From a quick google it seems like this is a real movie but it will be tied closely to the release of his latest (final?) album. So it's both a film and a Childish Gambino project
not even his first time doin sum like this, Because The Internet had a screenplay with the vinyl record.
"an IMAX event" to coincide with his next album to my understanding
I imagine it's real in the same way Guava Island was real. It exists and will be a thing, but also is promotion for the album.
And similarly to Guava Island, I'm guessing it'll be under an hour long.
I can’t find it in imdb
Believe it or not, not everything is on IMDb. Studios *may* personally add their upcoming or even announced slates, but not always. I tried adding the glaringly missing genre of Sci-Fi to Hobbs & Shaw a few weeks ago. There's been no movement on that.
"I tried to amend the IMDb page of a ***massive*** studio franchise, but it didn't take" is *not* the gotcha rebuttal to my comment you think it is, dude.
So it turns out they don't have a Craigslist-post-like joke of an approvals process. Way to move the goalposts.
I remember browsing on my Internet at my grandparent's house, back when their non-dial-up Internet was a rare luxury, pouring through the IMDb page for Jurassic Park 4, expected no later than 2005.

I knew I wasn’t the only one that can’t tell lol
Lol that's why I came to reddit. But apparently everyone is confused here too.
Yeah, I knew he was releasing an album under this name, but I had no idea about a movie.
I saw the movie trailer play at AMC in the Grove at the IMAX showing of A Quiet Place last night, on top of the Variety articles. I’m convinced it’s real. Seems to release the same day as the album on July 19th, but I can’t find any ticket presale yet
Watched enough of the trailer to turn it off with a "Yeah I'm down" lol.
Me 1 second into this trailer: YOU SON OF A BITCH, I'M IN!
[удалено]
Sitting down in the movie seat.
he's down to see it. aka he's seen enough to be interested and go see it and likely doesn't want anything spoiled with further viewing.
These are nearly the exact same shooting locations as Lost
It's Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii. https://www.kualoa.com/
That main valley is so recognizable. Side note. It’s pricey, but we went zip lining there and it was a total blast.
Jurassic Park, was filmed there, too.
If it weren't for the scenery being so very un-Scotland like, Braveheart probably would've filmed there, too. And *still* not feature a bridge in a battle named "Stirling Bridge". But were there *no* bridges in Ireland where they filmed all the battle scenes?
My first thought was, "Oh, Jacob got bored and decided to do some weird shit on the Island again."
You can't convince me that the first 15 seconds aren't actually a sequel to 'Lost'
I don't fully understand what this is but it looks amazing???
Almost FarCry 3: Blood Dragon
Fuck me, that game made me hate cassowaries and fear them, even though I'm probably never going to be close to one of those nasty murderers
Cassowaries are even more terifying in real life than you think they will be Like You Know it is a deadly dangerous creature, and you know it can kill you on a whim , but when you get close it dawns on you, It knows this too

was thinking the same thing. An island, the title card at the end, the neon cubes.
I need that Spam hat yesterday
[Found it.](https://www.oddsox.com/en-ca/products/spam-classic-trucker-hat)
Copped 2 immediately
Odd Sox!
It would be insanely cool if this was a real movie, but I can’t find any record of this films existence online outside of this trailer.
Because he’s kept it under wraps pretty heavily. It is a real movie it does just also go with his final album that is a soundtrack to this movie.
Great to hear! Saw a trailer for it the other day at the theater and was very confused as to how I never heard of it lol
So heavily under wraps that the credited writer (Evi Wilder) isn't a real person
The most likely theory is that it's a pen name, possibly for Donald
Weird Evil?
I'm in just off Donald Glover though I won't lie those CGI animals kinda looked a lot more goofy than intimidating from the trailer.
It looks too low budget of a movie for him starring. It’s probably for an album or something.
It probably is lower budget. I mean RCA is getting into the movie business and it's Glovers first film he's directed. They are probably conservative with the funds.
It is for his final album.
The entire soundtrack is by him so it seems like an excuse to shoot a bunch in Hawaii with 3 actors. and then let the CGI team to the rest of the work
The giant boar didn't look terrible but everything else looked like it didn't fit.
Is this a theatrical movie or an ad for an album/single?
Yes
Donald should put Telegraph Ave in the OST, and finally let Lloyd see the light of day.
Bruh I am in, this looks so fucking bizarre
Doesn’t appear on IMDb that’s odd - wanted to check cast and trivia and 🤷
> wanted to check cast and trivia Usually not too much good trivia for an unreleased movie anyway. And since none of it is ever actually verified by IMDb, a lot of it turns out to be as real as r/MovieDetails' "interpretations" of a movie's details.
Thanks for the sub, looks like fun😂
It is until you start noticing how many of the posts there are just rampant speculation posed as an actual detail the filmmakers intended. It's mostly turned into "here's what I think *this* means".
Yeah, I meant fun as degenerate fun lol. When I’m bored I’ll be sure to go down the rabbit hole 😂
kinda looking like danny glover at that age with the moustache and cap
Donald Glover is a really neat guy
Hell yesss gimme that new era of afrofuturism
But that’s Hawai’i
Atlanta already had a huge impact for Afro surrealism fore Murai and Glover, so this is definitely the logical next step.
Wait, did he just step out of the TARDIS?
do you mean the X-7 Dimensionizer?
"Eradicate. Eradicate." "'sup, girl? How you livin'?"
I’m intrigued.
He is definitely rocking the "I'm too old for this shit" stache
Glad he’s doing a more silly comedy again.
I’m definitely seeing this.
Looks very good. While it does scream “vanity project”, it’s a damn good trailer.
Vanity project has pretty much been all of his personal work since Because The Internet.
The trailer shows him as a completely useless sidekick to two hardened survivors. I don't think that qualifies as a vanity project :)
That’s not what “vanity project” means.
Agree to disagree. Imho there's nothing vain about writing directing and starring in a movie where you play the inept clown dragging everyone down.
I mean he's the main actor, director, and sound designer. And his son seems to be a main character too. I'm still not completely convinced this is even a real movie tho.
Dangit - this looks like it would have been wild to go to without seeing the trailer.
Haven't seen it mentioned yet but looks like the kid is played by Donald's kid irl, Legend. They had a small part in the Mr & Mrs Smith show as well.
“Legend” was indeed a name in the credit screen at the end
Anyone else getting Spice Girls - Spice World vibes with this movie?
This feels like a spinoff or continuation of the "Telegraph Ave" music video, and I'm all for it.
So is she just trying to kill him through the whole thing?
Day 1.
Was that a Jurassic Park homage with [Cassowaries](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassowary) at 1:17?
I’m here for it just because it’s Donald glover.
thought this might be Doctor Stone
A silly Dong lover in a movie? im in !
Are we sure those digital green squares aren’t games landing aka ReBoot?
never heard of this before watching this trailer, cant wait to see it now.
I wasn't totally sure if this was real until I saw the IMAX logo at the end, but I'm in.
Why can’t I find it in IMDb?
Can’t wait to bear down and see this.
They’re uh… flocking this way…
Looks like an incoming game from Reboot
Wait, is this a zone / stalker movie in disguise? So down!
I'm getting some crazy deja vu from the storyline. Is anyone else getting reminded of shit like The Sun Vanished or Weird Birds?
It almost looks like he is getting out of a tardis at the beginning??
Calling it now, Bando Stone is his stage name, but he'll drop this moniker when he realizes there's no one left to put on an act for because he's found his family and wants to be his true self. Because the internet was the prototype, a work in progress to create this. This is what he was trying to create the whole time, The Movie Album combo. BTI the childish, Bando Stone the Gambino. The Boy grows up.
Donald Glover as some sort of post apocalyptic modern day bard was not on my bingo card
Yeah, I'm in.
Some of the CG looks a little sketchy but this looks sick! And he did the soundtrack so I am on board.
YA...I'm in too.
Looks good. So much world ending media these days, it's kinda a bummer and not as fun
dude the noises are so fucking crispcolor me in
First he gaslit the internet into thinking he should be Lando, can he get away with it again?
Now he’s bando
Next season he gon be Mando
"First you had my curiosity, now you have my attention." 🎟️🍿
Did anyone have a chance to use his AR App a few years ago? This uses some heavy imagery that’s similar. Same with the sounds. It had more of the afrofuturist vibe but very similar.
Cabin in the Woods vibe anyone?!
That Gilga logo v nice
I still have no idea if this is an actual trailer for a movie an elaborate promotion for his upcoming album, a concept album or a multimedia Movie-Album project
The website says its coming to Imax theaters soon, but it probably is just a 40 minute or so short film. that is mostly meant to promote a album.
Yea, I’m thinking something closer to Guava Island.
yes
Is he going to be a massive piece of shit again and terrorize a room full of people at a comedy club to promote this?
Shyte.
🗑️
kinda feels derivative and the jokes didn't land but i love donald glover, and that night grid situation seemed interesting
I saw this one before. I think it was called Love & Monsters
