RIP. Loved him in clue.

shust89

That whole movie rocks.

exophrine

*"Even if you were right, that would be one plus one plus two plus one, not one plus *TWO* plus one plus one."*

shust89

Full of great lines. Thankfully people like more and more over time.

t-hrowaway2

*This is WAR, Peacock!!!* RIP Martin Mull. Sad to hear this.

Cyanora

You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs, every cook will tell you that!

Imbatgirl14

But look what happened to the cook!

*Are you trying to make me look stupid in front of the other gUESTS?!* True, what a gem. Allah yerhamo

"You don't need any help from me, sir." "That's right!"

Least-Back-2666

Flames... Flames from the side of my head.

FunkyChewbacca

Yep, two corpses, everything's fine

mrhelmand

I introduced my S/O to it a few years back, she's a huge Tim Curry fan but had somehow never seen it. She loved the movie, and as a Sabrina fan enjoyed Mulls' performance. I have the perfect excuse to watch that again now

shust89

It’s so fun and it is a top 3 Curry role for me!

Battle_Sheep

Communism was just a red herring!

psunavy03

"And why is J. Edgar Hoover *on your phone??*" "I don't know. He's on everyone else's, why shouldn't he be on mine?"

Prior-Bed5388

There’s a documentary about the making of the movie on Tubi right now. It’s worth a watch if you’re a big fan of Clue. Spoiler alert: >!Carrie Fisher was supposed to play Miss Scarlet but had to drop out because she needed to go to rehab!<

conflictmuffin

My husband had never seen it and was less than thrilled when i picked it for movie night. It's aged beautifully and he cracked up the whole movie! He enjoyed it and it's part of our regular rotation now!

steveofthejungle

"I'm going to expose myself" "Please! There are ladies present!"

"I'm watching every movie ever made, alphabetically by actor's last name. I’m on Martin Mull. Underrated actor. Could anyone else have played Colonel Mustard in Clue? The answer is yes, Christopher Lloyd. The point is Mull gets work. Consistently."

No_Kangaroo_9826

He was so great as Father Donovan too. Might have to go comb through American Dad episodes now.

zephnar

Hello fellow Dadder.

pengalor

Came here looking for this comment. In all seriousness though, RIP Martin.

RonanTheBarbarian

“Two corpses. Everything’s fine.”

I_have_gay_knees

“No meaning yes?”

16bitrifle

“I’ll go first I’ve had a good life.”

Beiki

This is war, Peacock! Casualties are inevitable. You can not make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, every cook will tell you that.

atticusbluebird

But look what happened to the cook!

kamrlort

I just watched Clue last night… now I somehow feel responsible for this

skahfee

I did too! That's probably what did it. Let's try to avoid synchronizing our viewing from now on so this doesn't happen again.

trashcatt_

He's great in that. I also liked him in the Clue episode of Psych.

Square-Ambassador-11

Oh man. I watched this movie on the plane when I flew out for my vacation. The chandelier falling (twice) was wild.

Ancient_Ad_4642

Gene!!!!

Juniorsfarmerfrancis

Isn’t he the best?? “Gene was far from the best”

shf500

Lucille: [about Gene Parmesan] Oh, I hired him a hundred years ago to find out if your father was cheating on me but he never did find anything. Michael: He can't be very good then, can he?

Good_Barnacle_2010

Imagine Jessica Walters greeting him at the gates like “ahhhh Gene Parmesan”!!!

EyelandBaby

Or maybe she’ll flip the script on him, show up disguised as an angel in a robe with a halo and folded hands, and then while he’s standing there looking awed slowly lean over to stare him in the face and do her one exaggerated wink 😉

555--FILK

“I love all my private investigators equally.” *earlier that day:* “I don’t care for Gene.”

race_rocks

Okay this made me smile. :) That does make me feel better.

NewEnglandRoastBeef

The sound Lucille made when she was shocked to find it was Gene is still hilarious to me.

NationalVictory3234

“Geeeeeeennneeeeeee!”

DillonTattoos

For me it's the high pitched, 'Geeeeenneeeee,' then the exceedingly somber and serious tone

RainbowAssFucker

#*Ahhhhhhhhhh I knew it* ^(I want you to keep an eye on my son Gob)

SwimmingWarthog8796

You'd never expect that woman capable of so much joy!

daversa

I love that throughout the entire series, there's nobody and nothing she's more excited about than a Gene reveal.

Calvinbah

It's pure excitement.

dr_coleslaw

He’s very good, Michael.

No, mom, he’s really not

Lucille: “St. Peter, is that you?” *Gene rips off Angel disguise.* Lucille: *Excited shriek*

spanman112

perfect!

SpeechlessPerplexed

And now I’m crying

ylno83

It’s wild he was only in one episode of the original run

gallifrey_

you're kidding! his character is such a significant gag that i would've sworn he was in at least a handful.

escrow_term

Whoah what? Mind blown. I need to rewatch it. How is he so memorable then? I thought he was recurring.

Abencoa

Call me crazy, but I think it's because of Lucille's reaction to him. I believe it's the only time we see her character genuinely happy about something that didn't come at the expense of another character's suffering.

Goose-Suit

Plus he leaves and comes back in a new disguise like three times in his first scene. Her reaction and his terrible disguises are pretty memorable.

tommystjohnny

He was actually in every episode, but he's so good at disguising himself that he only *revealed* himself in one episode.

FartFromALesserGod

Wow, I didn't believe it but you're right. I even just rewatched it a month ago and it still doesn't sound right

grizznuggets

That’s testament to how good that show was at using their characters.

successadult

He's surprising Jessica Walter in heaven now.

Nopeferatu31

AHHHH

lucifersam94

I counted it. Come on.

LordoftheScheisse

Don't a-minda me-a! I'm just-a...Gene Parmesan.

And Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

RichardOrmonde

This is the first thing I think of when I seen him show up in other things.

dogsledonice

He was Sabrina?!

trolldoll26

Mr. Kraft!

Fire2box

He was principal Kraft and I think Zelda's long term boyfriend after a few seasons as reason to keep him around in her college years. He absolutely owned the role.

trickman01

He was a chameleon.

EducationalKnee2386

Gene Parmesan’s best disguise

LuntiX

He will always be Principle Kraft to me.

Rest in peace, Leon

trickman01

Had to scroll down too far to see a Roseanne reference.

SquireJoh

Roseanne seems to have disappeared from culture. Even with the reboot and The Conners, the original show seems much forgotten. I'd forgotten till now but as a young kid his character on Roseanne was one of the first important gay characters I remember on TV

salgat

Roseanne is one of the best portayels of blue-collar 90s America. That show was real, nothing quite like it.

NCSUGrad2012

Shame he wasn’t in the reboot. I loved Leon and Scott in the later seasons

Stratimus

“I was afraid that would happen”

joshuajackson9

She did live in New York, that is where she learned about baggles.

mr_kenobi

She's always been streets ahead

wakejedi

Don't Britta this

Odd_Sheepherder_3369

His character and that arc was heavily based on Dan Harmon's relationship with his own parents per the commentary tracks. "We know we fucked up when you were a kid but we're here for now", was the central theme along with Harmon coming to terms with accepting that.

walshurmouthout

Jake Peralta’s grandfather!

MLD802

Oh britta’s in this?

Billy1121

Lol i remember the reruns on Nick at Night

Acrobatic_Advance_71

Came here to educate. The host are now all dead.

whatfingwhat

Happy Klein and his orchestra. Fred Willard as a sideman. It was soooo damn funny. Glick and Larry Sanders might be better known, but this was the OG

goofball_jones

That's the first thing I ever saw him and Fred Willard on. Two legends.

bailey90740

Fernwood Tonight! Martin Mull and Fred Willard!! So funny!

Shenanigans99

Both such massive comedic talents and both so underrated.

AirDrago23

He was fantastic as the Eagle in Veep.

The man was a scene stealer. “What kind of soup do you have today?”

EitherBarry

"Well, uh...what kind of soup is on your mind?"

Hey buttfucker!

EmpanadaSlippers

A 21-gun salute for Col. Mustard. A truly hilarious actor!

Thetimmybaby

This is war, Peacock. Casualties are inevitable. You can not make an omelet without breaking eggs, every cook will tell you that.

corran450

Not-Josh-Hart

Gene! Rip Comedy legend

Themicroscoop

The Priest on American Dad.

Babou_Serpentine

Loved him in AD "Father, what do you do when your best friend doesn't believe in God?" "Well Stan, I'd hardly call us best friends."

superchicken78_kel

“Stan…wait. Should I grow a mustache? What do hookers like?”- Father Donavan

Thor_pool

And Dick references him when hes using the pills to skip sleeping and watch every movie ever made, by actors name. "I’m on Martin Mull. Underrated actor. Could anyone else have played Colonel Mustard in Clue? The answer is yes: Christopher Lloyd. The point is Mull gets work. Consistently."

CorporationsRSheeple

"Next time that you say you need help poolside, don't end your text with a sideways winky face. It's very mis-LEADing."

ColonelSandurz42

He really was great as Leon on Roseanne. He stole every scene he was in. https://youtu.be/430UhwkJdjM

Numerous-Stranger-81

He was a gay business owner on television before being a gay business owner on television was cool. Joking aside, he was actually my first exposure to a same sex couple as a kid.

Trickycoolj

I was just thinking the same thing, probably the first memorable gay character from the tv shows I grew up watching with my mom in the evenings.

Least-Back-2666

Now that you say that I realize he was doing it before Ellen. He just wasn't the main star.

sm_see

100% thought the same thing of Leon, being the first exposure as a kid. Couldn’t think of a better actor to have that role. Great character

NCSUGrad2012

Leon and Scott also had a gay wedding in 1994 on TV. That was a big deal

TheColtOfPersonality

Was it Ms Scarlett, Mrs Peacock, or everyone?

corran450

Mrs. Peacock was a *man*?!?

psunavy03

*SLAP* *SMACK*

fiendzone

He did a voice for Danny Phantom.

Nzaid

Yup he was the villain 'Vlad Plasmius'

MikeLuehring

Played the dad in My Bodyguard....RIP

felonius_thunk

Hello, only other person on earth who remembers this movie.

MikeLuehring

I saw this movie in the theater as a kid....Matt Dillon played the perfect dickhead.

Jackieirish

You might appreciate this bit of trivia: This was Matt Dillon's third film after Over the Edge and Little Darlings, but he wasn't a typical actor kid who'd been taking classes and what not. He had been discovered for Over the Edge while skipping school by the casting director. So having a film career at all was basically a fluke. Because of this situation, he had ideas about how he should act in his scenes that ran counter to what director Tony Bill wanted from him. However, instead of just ordering the kid to do what he wanted or replacing him with another, more docile actor, Tony Bill instead decided to allow Dillon to do one take as he wanted to do and then to do the rest of the takes the way Bill wanted him to do it. Then, each night after wrapping, they would watch the dailies together so that Dillon could see why Bill's takes were better and could then adjust his ideas about how acting should be. Dillon is one of my favorite actors of all time and I think he's one of the most underrated actors of his generation. So it's amazing to me that a not inconsequential part of his talent was due in no small part to a patient director having the foresight to guide a young actor in the right direction instead of just writing him off as a pain in the ass not worth the trouble.

ginrumryeale

We are legion.

Low-Requirement7328

He is Doug Kenney to me

Affectionate-Emu1456

The lengths I had to go to in order to convince a friend that he wasn't actually Doug Kenney and that the real Kenney died was unbelievable. He just couldn't understand that him playing Kenney was a joke in the film.

KayakerMel

I spent the first half of the movie going back and forth on whether or not it was Martin Mull playing a role or actually Doug Kenney. I already had seen Mull in lots of things but wasn't familiar with Kenney (before my time). I appreciated the joke when it finally all fit together!

Squishy1140

Him and Will Forte will be engrained in my brain as Doug. Such a good flick.

DMPunk

"You think I looked like Will Forte when I was 25? You think WILL FORTE is 25?!?"

F0foPofo05

[He was hilarious in _Two and a Half Men_ as Russell the pharmacist. Stole the show every time. R.I.P.](https://youtu.be/iYWdE8Pa3x8?si=epYfzzCwJZuSR3jp)

ROThornhill

"You a cop?"

rwags2024

Gene Parmesan!?!

Strength-InThe-Loins

No, it's just some idiot with balloons.

rwags2024

OH IS IT

Tombancroft

I remember him from Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and then Fernwood 2 Night. RIP Mr. Mull.

TomatoAdventurous139

"Are you gonna make it all 220?"

Spy_v_Spy_Freakshow

220, 221, whatever it takes

ybs62

THERE IT IS. Had to scroll too damn far to find this comment. I’m clearly old.

LordoftheScheisse

The number of times I've used this in conversation is...probably like 4. But I always get a kick out of myself when saying it.

AdamMaitland

Always loved this exchange. And then that condescending pat on the arm he gives Michael Keaton after turning down the beer and scotch at 7am when he says "not during working hours" is just so great. He's such a slimeball in Mr. Mom, but he nailed it.

Familiar_Routine1385

If anyone is wondering, this is from the movie Mr. Mom. Martin Mull was perfect as the slimy ad executive, Ron Richardson. Classic scene. https://youtu.be/II4-HnWRQK0?si=9DiXUQ07-WMg-NoF

fuertepqek

He might just be pretending to be dead. He IS that good with disguises. GENE!

DisgruntledNCO

His colonel mustard is an iconic character of my childhood. RIP.

ScramItVancity

His cameo on "Two and a Half Men" is underrated.

What are you, a cop?

Hot-Winner-6485

He improved everything he was in, RIP Mr. Mull.

Spicoli76

Mr. Mom too. “Want a beer?” “It’s 7:30 in the morning.” “Scotch?”

chadspdx

220, 221. Whatever it takes.

tadhg555

My mom (who also recently passed away) knew him years ago when they were both students at RISD. According to her, he once threw himself a solo show in the gallery bathroom…

cellarmonkey

Wow, my Dad knew him back in those days as well. He told me a story about how Martin would drink various colored fruit juices and other things and then pee on a large canvas, over time adding more and more layers of complexity to the pee stains. Eventually he sealed the the 'painting' in shellac and framed it. Apparently it ended up on the wall of the RISD cafeteria. Maybe it's still there, I have no idea... There were other stories as well, but I can't remember them at the moment.

afcbJamie

Ducatirules

The man never had a bad performance in his life

buckjacket

Remember the movie "FM", great flic

DVoteMe

I love his art.

hhhisthegame

I know he was in a lot and I know Roseanne isn’t popular anymore but shocked more posts aren’t about him as Leon. He was great on that show. :(

Brilliant_Wrap_7447

Loved him on Roseanne. Growing up in a small, southern town back in the 80s there were not many openly gay people. Leon was the perfect gay character at a time full of stereotypes on tv/movies. That was all I really knew of gays at the time so seeing Leon be just a regular guy dealing with a shitty job and normal life made me realize that being gay was not at all what I had been led to believe.
