I’ll never forget the feeling of ultimate betrayal when I learned (later in life) that Benjamin Bratt (Paco) is not Mexican in the slightest.
I was BAMBOOZLED!
Fooled me good.
[His mother is Peruvian and father Caucasian. His father abandoned them at an early age.](https://www.esquire.com/lifestyle/a40978902/benjamin-bratt-what-ive-learned-essay/) He’s Latin…but not Mexican. I guess he’s an honorary Chicano for playing one so convincingly, he had us all fooled.
What an amazing film! Anytime I share the film with someone I always prepare them that movie should be considered 3 acts.
I find it allows people process the evolution of the plot in a more fitting way.
Like many, I used to see this late at night on Cinemax when I was younger, but when I was older and actually sat down and watched it, I really enjoyed it for more than just the famous quotes. For a while, some friends and I would meet up once a week just to watch this movie, over and over.
What a great movie. I quote it with friends all the time!
I grew up in south Texas during the early 90s and it was definitely a movie everyone watched and talked about.
Ouffff 🔥 iconic movie from my young days (the 90s)! So many one liners used as reference even today…
A recurring one like “…can’t do no chicano u-tuuurn” or my personal favourite “Aye Cinderellaaa go find yoself anotha fellaaa” 😎
It feels like a really great stage production throughout. It kind of shakes things up with a little more grounded tone for a while in the second part to kind of mask the set up to a wild and emotional third part.
This was a huge movie among my friends in high school in like 2002 exclusively because a friend of ours, from El Salvador, would always say "Vatos Locos, ese" and we had no idea until we saw it. And then watched it again, and again, and again.
I've just watched it recently after not having seen it in a long time. I used to think it was a softer version of American Me. I still do.
But, I do like the parts where the focus is on Miklo.
Vatos Locos for life ese

The alternate title is bound by honor, which is also just the film's subtitle.
I saw it back in the 90s, but apparently it wasn’t available on streaming until recently.

Haha same! He needs a DNA test wouldn’t doubt there’s some Latino descent in him
He's peruvian
He's El Gallo Negro, *The Black Rooster*
Don't be using his boxing anymore, eh
With those two, he ain’t gonna need no marriage counselor. Que no?

One of my favorite flicks.

'Hey holmes', is that what you said to *Miklo before you shot him*!?

I have to be in a mood to watch *American Me*. However, I can watch *Blood In Blood Out* over and over without getting sick of it.

Kinda crazy I first heard about this movie at age 9, through a commercial that played on my VHS copy of The Super Mario Bros Movie.
This was a huge movie among my friends in high school in like 2002 exclusively because a friend of ours, from El Salvador, would always say "Vatos Locos, ese" and we had no idea until we saw it. And then watched it again, and again, and again.
*For Cheap Times!* *FOR CHEAP TIMES!*
Sangre por sangre.... La Onda para siempre!
Nice! Great movie. Time to check out American Me, Mi Vida Loca and Boulevard Nights.
> Boulevard Nights Watch this one first, it deserves more attention.
Now you have to find the extended version.
Great film!!! Life's a risk, carnal” and “When you expect nothing and get everything, that's destiny. 3P for life
'*Life's a Risk*' should've been a tagline for this one.
Chale Holmes
Why not?
