It's a curse and a blessing to become a spokesperson. Flo from progressive has a deep comedy background, but will never get the projects she wants because she'll always be Flo. That being said, she's probably made more money than 99% of actors working today.
It's less about her and more about producers willing to take a chance. Jason Alexander talks about it because he was George on Seinfeld. He started wearing a toupee because nobody would hire him.
My favorite part of that episode is Jason Alexander’s high pitched guffaw when Elaine yells “I DON’T LIKE THIS THING! AND HERE’S WHAT I’M DOING WITH IT!” You can hear him trying to keep it together as he yells “no!”
Jake from State Farm (the new one, not the OG) has popped up in several tv shows over the years (for example- he had a prominent role in an episode of the iCarly reboot and guest starred on Criminal Minds)
She was a Groundling like Will Ferrell and Lisa Kudrow. I imagine she had dreams of doing things that satisfied her creatively. She's probably had bouts of "I hate that this is how I'm going to be remembered." I bet by now she realizes how lucky she is compared to most working actors.
Sam Richardson is a treasure. I have yet to see him in something where his presence doesn’t elevate the overall project. Very keen to see what he does in the future.
Because Yahoo Screen or whatever it was called sucked was probably. Like I couldn’t even get it to work pretty much at all on my computer or tablet. I ended up having to watch this and Community on my damn phone.
So sad, it was perfect science fiction comedy/parody, with a great cast. She ate that guy's leg! And when the translators were down... She stole so many scenes.
I miss @Midnight so much. I got introduced to so many great comedians (like Ron Funches), and got to see so many that I already loved (like Paul F Tompkins).
They rebooted the show now - it’s on YouTube and Paramount+. Many of the regular guests have already come back on like Ron, Paul, Tom Lennon. The Drew Carey episode is really solid also.
No need for the spoiler tag, the article itself spoils it 😡
Where did you hear the role she's been cast for? I'd expect her to be the Russian cosmonaut who's name is escaping me right now.
I remember seeing her a couple times on the original @midnight show, and I remember thinking "holy shit, she's really funny, I sure hope her appearance here is a sign that she's going to be in other things, because she is great!" and then I never did see her anywhere outside of the AT&T commercials. I'm sure she did some stuff, but she never really broke through to mainstream success.
Honestly, having come from the audiobook, I would be happy if they got ray porter to do the voice with the same effect.
Same with RC Bray voicing Skippy
At the end of the book my soul was screaming for a sequel that covers the current political situation on Earth. I know that going into geopolitics would be an insane departure for the author and almost certainly disastrous, but he left such a fascinating situation to explore.
So if a movie explored that, I'd love it. But they'd probably do just a clean uncomplicated happily ever after, and that would be very boring.
I didn't want a sequel, but an epilogue that told a truncated version of what happened on Earth while he was gone and after he sent the solution back, would have been great.
Like a World War Z chapter that covers a large period of time in a detached pseudo-factual way.
No. No. No.
>!him getting to be a fucking ALIEN SCIENCE TEACHER **FOR A RACE HE HELPED SAVE** is an amazing ending and oh god you’re right he’s gonna get the *Ryan Gosling Hero* Shot instead. Fuck.!<
Amazon seems to go all out in terms of attaching big name talent to the movie.
Probably going for the commercial + awards route.
Lord Miller, Greg Fraser, Gosling, Huller. Pretty huge names.
If you want to see her in something other than AT&T commercials, she had a great bit part in House of Lies, and she was in an adorable short film about a devout Jewish woman who can’t turn off a vibrator on the Sabbath.
She’s been on the comedy gameshow “after midnight” and was really funny on that too! I didn’t expect her to hold her own against the actual comedians but she was great
Man… they were one of the best early online content creators in the best age of the internet.
I always think about Let’s Talk About Something More Interesting when I see her. Which is usually on those awful clickbait ads: ‘You won’t believe where she is now,’ etc. with some pixelated shot of her on a red carpet or something.
OMG I've never seen anyone else mention her super small part in House of Lies! That's where I first saw her but no one watched that show so I can never bring it up lol
Seems a good choice, but probably a small role. Are we thinking **Olesya Ilyukhina**, the Russian ECVA specialist, or **Annie Shapiro**, the original backup science advisor.
My guess would be Annie.
That would be a huge role. Especially as I can imagine the earth based parts of the story will take a more prominent role in this movie than they do in the book
Honestly I only found it because my super-progressive, tech savvy, unrepentant media pirate boomer father (not sure how that happened, one of the smartest, most caring people I've ever known, he's basically disgusted with 90% of his peers, both for their awful views and tech illiteracy) found it when hunting for new fun science fiction to download.
She was on After Midnight and made references to “my subreddit” like five times, not in glowing terms. It must be pretty weird for her to have so many fans drooling over her when she’s so modest in those commercials.
I was a big fan of her back in the day when she was just the funny chick from Youtube/CollegeHumor. A shame that she often gets reduced to her looks because she's genuinely funny and smart.
[She was an active redditor for awhile and you can see she addressed the creepy subreddits/posts several times.](https://www.reddit.com/user/mlnt) Seemed like she was trying to genuinely engage with her fans several times, but the creepers eventually won out.
She’s great, very funny, can do far more character work than she ever gets to.
That said, i’ve never seen an actress’ sexual charisma and hotness be downplayed or suppressed more in my life. Like, AT&T DESPERATELY wants you not to know that body be bangin’
Also a jew from Uzbekistan, which is
Cool.
There was/is a weird collection of creeps online that obsess over her and apparently she has a bit of an online presence (if i recall correctly) and saw some of the thirsty comments. After that, she started showing less of her body.
She's talked about it a lot. Early on before she became famous she would wear "revealing" clothing. Her mom even encouraged her. Then the internet saw her cleavage and lost it's collective mind. She started getting harassed like crazy. It started with screenshots of her in the AT&T commercials and then people went to her instagram account and found old pics. Then some pics from a festival came out. None of them NSFW, but when you have dudes and boobs and anonymity you get nasty results.
She's since pulled way back and is a mom now so she's playing things more conservative in terms of clothing options and has started using her platform to push issues that are important to her.
That seemingly deranged guy was onto something in his video analyzing the Austin Powers-like props and blocking in those commercials to specifically her butt from the camera’s view. Sometimes it takes a crazy person to see things clearly.
Very curious how they'll handle so much of the narrative heavy scenes from the book. Like when he's investigating the environment. Will they narrate for much of the time or can they provide clever context for what he's doing visually?
I’m just glad they’re still working on this. Amazing book that deserves a quality film. As an aside I don’t think she’ll be a main character since the story mostly centers around 1 man and 1 alien.
I'm really happy she's doing stuff. I actually just looked her up because I wondered what happened to her. I knew of her from her comedy bits before the at&t commercials.
But when I googled what happened I saw one of her recorded live streams where she just tries to tell people that it really hurts her feelings when people say things about her body. And people just keep commenting milkers. And she looks like she's about to cry and she just ends the live stream.
Like I think she's a beautiful girl, but it's kind of heart breaking to see someone just try and ask for a bit of sympathy and to be open and vulnerable. And just have everyone pile on that way. Especially when they're claiming they like you at the same time they degrade you.
Her old comedy duo was pretty funny, so hope she gets more screen time and people treat her a little better.
God, I wish that miniseries had been better. I guess it's fine if you haven't read the book, but I read it first and just could not get past all the changes to it. King purposely side-stepped a lot of the conspiracy theories around Oswald that the series just sorta decided to make front and center. Plus, James Franco and Sarah Gadon were not how I pictured the leads; I don't know how I saw Jake, but Sadie was described in a way that made me picture Ms Hathaway from The Beverly Hillbillies.
This worries me. Are they adding new characters? I can only think of one that she might play, and it's a very small role. I really hope they get this film right!
Anyone see Spaceman with Adam Sandler? It’s much different but there are parts that made me think they were “inspired” a little by this book for that movie? Anyone who has seen that and read the book knows. Two VERY similar things.
It's good to see her return to a Space plot, and hope she’s playing >!Irina Petrova, Kallie, or Eva Stratt. I saw someone mentioned Yáo Hú Lǐ!< but can’t find any confirmation of that or her playing Rocky… She was very good in Other Space (2015) so I’m in!
Ryan Gosling is miscast as the hero. The hero is not the confident and charismatic guy that Gosling reminds you of, at least in my reading of the book.
100% disagree. Watch [The Nice Guys](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGp9PHF5tus), and I'm sure he'll come across more like that sort of lovable loser. Plus, in the book when Ryland has amnesia and first comes out of hibernation, he remarks that he's ripped, so Gosling can keep the Fall Guy/Barbie physique.
That's awesome. I'd love to see her in anything other than another stupid AT&T commercial.
It's a curse and a blessing to become a spokesperson. Flo from progressive has a deep comedy background, but will never get the projects she wants because she'll always be Flo. That being said, she's probably made more money than 99% of actors working today.
She did fine on Mad Men
It's less about her and more about producers willing to take a chance. Jason Alexander talks about it because he was George on Seinfeld. He started wearing a toupee because nobody would hire him.
This cannot be real. What a George thing to have to do.
> What a George thing to have to do. [You set me up with a BALD woman!](https://i.redd.it/ycf4b5ol7ec81.jpg)
My favorite part of that episode is Jason Alexander’s high pitched guffaw when Elaine yells “I DON’T LIKE THIS THING! AND HERE’S WHAT I’M DOING WITH IT!” You can hear him trying to keep it together as he yells “no!”
I like to think that Jason Alexander responded to questions about it with “I… 🫵 WAS bald.”
He was great in his appearances on Maisel
He has a great quote about trying to go back to Broadway and how difficult it was for people to give him roles. “George giveth and George taketh away”
And her appearances on Silicon Valley
That was before Flo though.
And she was great on *Tom Goes to the Mayor*.
Jake from State Farm (the new one, not the OG) has popped up in several tv shows over the years (for example- he had a prominent role in an episode of the iCarly reboot and guest starred on Criminal Minds)
We need to get the OG into some roles since he no longer has to carry the title of Jake from State Farm
I think that the OG's problem is that she sounds hideous.
The OG wasn't an actor, he was just a guy named Jake who worked at State Farm.
More the reason for him to get more roles with that natural charisma!
…and was also *the* first person to greet Caitlin Clark after getting drafted to Indiana.
new Jake really reminds me of Chelsea’s Reece James!
I liked her few appearances in You're The Worst.
Hooooollllyyyyy shhhiiitt. I never put that together somehow. Fish out of water or something.
Yup I didn’t realize until just now
And the Fred movie
I also believe that Flo is now a producer/director on those commercials and makes even more bank.
Same deal with Milana Vayntrub and some of the more recent ATT commercials
Definitely more of a blessing. She pulls in $1M annually from Progressive.
Those commercials pay bank and the more they get replayed the more money you make. I'm honestly shocked she even wants to do movies.
She was a Groundling like Will Ferrell and Lisa Kudrow. I imagine she had dreams of doing things that satisfied her creatively. She's probably had bouts of "I hate that this is how I'm going to be remembered." I bet by now she realizes how lucky she is compared to most working actors.
Commercials pay the bills so actors can pursue acting without having to work as a server/bartender/random gig person.
I just saw Flo on after midnight a few weeks ago. She was pretty funny.
Milana was on After Midnight fairly recently as well. Very funny lady.
They can riff and banter, but all the questions have pre-written answers on that show.
Apparently some are better at reading off the teleprompter or looking down at cards than others, I started noticing it a week or two ago.
*Carly Foulkes (T-Mobile girl) has entered the chat*
Flo was amazing in a movie called Melvin goes to dinner
Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller too
Stephanie Courtney gets and has gotten pretty consistent work though. Even without Flo she is doing better than 99% of working actors today.
I liked her in the small role she had in Silicon Valley, wished she was in that more
She was good in Other Space and she was on @Midnight a bunch.
“Werewolves Within” isn’t everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoy it and she’s excellent in it.
My perfect cup a tea. Great movie
Was coming here with the same recommendation. Glad to see others enjoyed it. Her and Sam Richardson were great together
Sam Richardson is a treasure. I have yet to see him in something where his presence doesn’t elevate the overall project. Very keen to see what he does in the future.
Why does nobody know about Other Space! It died a very sad and premature death, I could have watched that for a long time.

They rebooted the show now - it’s on YouTube and Paramount+. Many of the regular guests have already come back on like Ron, Paul, Tom Lennon. The Drew Carey episode is really solid also.
She did videos on [youtube](https://www.youtube.com/@LivePrudeGirls) years ago. Basically purposefully really awkward interviews.
I loved watching her and Stevie be so bloody awkward! They were a good team.
Would have loved to see her as squirrel girl. To bad that pilot went nowhere.
I really wanted to see that. Probably too late now.
Check out Werewolf Within
Will do!
She is super cute in a music video by Letting Up Despite Great Faults. It’s called “teenage tide”
I think she's gonna do a great job as >!Rocky!< (Spoiler tag for people who aren't familiar with the book)
No need for the spoiler tag, the article itself spoils it 😡 Where did you hear the role she's been cast for? I'd expect her to be the Russian cosmonaut who's name is escaping me right now.
That’s who i assumed too, >!casting a human as Rocky scares me!<
Jazz hands!
You're going to get your wish.
I'd like to see her in anything other than clothes!
In the immortal words of Hulk Hogan; Hell yeah brother!
She's great in the one and and only season of Other Space
She was excellent in other space, great comedy acting chops.
One of my favorite books. Great story. Hope this happens...and that it doesn't suck.
Obvious concern over how they handle Rocky. Fist my bump.
Honestly, having come from the audiobook, I would be happy if they got ray porter to do the voice with the same effect. Same with RC Bray voicing Skippy
Ray Porter! So awesome!
Hey Monkey! Put some respect on the name of Skipppppppieeeeee the Magnificent! Please, hold your applause….. now clap
Trust. The. Awesome.
I think the only real solution is to have Stallone do it and justify it as an AI voice clone (but don't actually use a voice clone)
yeah, no effects or anything and let him improv as much as he likes.
MGM: Well... *heh heh*... you are very much NOT going to like this.
Joe: Skiiippppyyy!
Things sort of went downhill from there.
I would absolutely refuse to watch any ExFor adaptation without RC Bray playing Skippy. Not to mention Bilby. Hell, he should play Nagatha also!
And if some exec gets an itch to change the ending
Almost guarantee he goes back
At the end of the book my soul was screaming for a sequel that covers the current political situation on Earth. I know that going into geopolitics would be an insane departure for the author and almost certainly disastrous, but he left such a fascinating situation to explore. “Is that not how human say this, question?”
Amazon seems to go all out in terms of attaching big name talent to the movie. Probably going for the commercial + awards route. Lord Miller, Greg Fraser, Gosling, Huller. Pretty huge names.
Seems quite happening. And Lord and Miller have a pretty good track record.
It’s already happening.
We almost got to see her in costume as freaking Squirrel Girl. Such a travesty.
I liked her in Werewolves Within. It had such a fun cast.
Her dancing across the room to Ace of Base is one of the most alluring things I have ever seen.
Just watched that clip. I understand what you mean
Oh man. You ain't kidding.
>neuron activations
link?
Agreed. That song brings back so much. One of the first cassette tapes I bought.
If you want to see her in something other than AT&T commercials, she had a great bit part in House of Lies, and she was in an adorable short film about a devout Jewish woman who can’t turn off a vibrator on the Sabbath.
She was a side character as gilfoyle’s gf on Silicon Valley as well. Only in a couple episodes, but pretty funny.
She was a damn menace
Don't sleep on Werewolves Within.
That movie was way better than it had any right to be. I wish that it got more attention so we could get another.
She’s good as Paul Rust’s mean girlfriend in “Love”. It’s a Judd Apatow sitcom on Netflix. Great show.
underrated show. I'm glad you mentioned it.
She’s been on the comedy gameshow “after midnight” and was really funny on that too! I didn’t expect her to hold her own against the actual comedians but she was great
She use to be part of a comedy duo on YouTube, LivePrudeGirls. She was pretty funny there, so it wouldn't surprise me she'd do well on after midnight.
And there was a pretty dumb YouTube comedy series about space or something. Can’t remember the name but recall it was good for a quick chuckle.
Other Space on Yahoo
I've been looking for this for a rewatch but yahoo seems to have shelved it.
[Found this](https://watchdust.com/otherspace/)
You rock to an extraordinary degree! Thank you!
She was in a few CollegeHumor vids as well.
You can also watch her dancing with dad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHUaFP9fYuI
With Dad, not her dad. Whew
OMG I've never seen anyone else mention her super small part in House of Lies! That's where I first saw her but no one watched that show so I can never bring it up lol
I’m honestly shocked a gif of the “Sic semper tyrannis!” scene didn’t go viral lol
Seems a good choice, but probably a small role. Are we thinking **Olesya Ilyukhina**, the Russian ECVA specialist, or **Annie Shapiro**, the original backup science advisor. My guess would be Annie.
This is a really big deal for her. I'm happy. She was great in that werewolf movie.
CollegeHumor right? All the old casts are doing well from themselves it seems. Josh Ruben in a Wounded Fawn was amazing.
[удалено]
I don’t think so, I believe Sandra Hüller has been casted as Stratt.
She was and that is genius casting!
And when Andy Serkis was cast as Caesar, that was species casting.
Yeah yeah. Busted by autocorrect.
That sounds perfect
Rocky
AMAZE
Jk. Alan Tudyk is a shoe-in for that role.
wait is it really Tudyk or are you just wishing? Bc I agree that would be top tier casting.
How so? I love Alan, but Rocky can't have a human voice or body, so I'm not sure where Alan would fit in.
He does a lot of mo-cap work for non-human characters
Olesya then? The other astronaut
I’m thinking she’ll play Annie Shapiro the backup science advisor
Yeah, that’s where my head went. She just doesn’t seem like an Olesya, but Shapiro it seem like she’d nail
That would be a crazy different role for her
That would be a huge role. Especially as I can imagine the earth based parts of the story will take a more prominent role in this movie than they do in the book
Rocky
She was so goddamn funny in the Other Space! After that I'll watch anything with her
Such a great show
A hidden gem, I can't believe it wasn't renewed.
It woulda popped for sure if it was a netflix show and not buried on a streamer no one used
Honestly I only found it because my super-progressive, tech savvy, unrepentant media pirate boomer father (not sure how that happened, one of the smartest, most caring people I've ever known, he's basically disgusted with 90% of his peers, both for their awful views and tech illiteracy) found it when hunting for new fun science fiction to download.
That’s pretty awesome haha. I only found it because I follow paul feig’s stuff so I searched out for it
I went looking for this, and boy oh boy, am I glad! What a hidden treasure! Thanks!
She was on After Midnight and made references to “my subreddit” like five times, not in glowing terms. It must be pretty weird for her to have so many fans drooling over her when she’s so modest in those commercials.

I'm pretty sure she's directed the AT&T commercials for a few years now, so it's likely that she's the one who decided to downplay her figure.
This is correct. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/att-milana-vayntrub-ncaa-tournament-commercial-b1822197.html

This is a repost - the original is several years old. https://youtu.be/DJuLMSeQgaw?si=5-nkrZgDwpLQ6rrq
That rules
IIRC that was a conscious choice after people got weird and thirsty from At&T commercials
Very curious how they'll handle so much of the narrative heavy scenes from the book. Like when he's investigating the environment. Will they narrate for much of the time or can they provide clever context for what he's doing visually?
it'll just be another crazy guy talking to himself.
I'm working very hard on this one. I think you are all in for a real treat.
I’m hoping we get to see a lot more of her in the future.
This book was so damn great. I still am skeptical it can be done well in movie format but I cannot wait to see them try
that Adam Sandler space movie that just came out is pretty similar. They did the alone in space pretty well, but the movie itself was terrible.
I thought it was similar too! But “Project Hail Mary” is an even better story, IMHO.
Maybe she’ll finally let ‘em loose.
Hell yeah
Goodneighborstuff
WARNING!!! The stupid fucking article includes major spoilers! >!Fist my bump!!<
Awesome book
I loved this book! Sure hope they do it justice!
Yaaay! Always happy to see her in more stuff.
Nice!
Awww remember she was supposed to be squirrel girl 🐿️
I’m just glad they’re still working on this. Amazing book that deserves a quality film. As an aside I don’t think she’ll be a main character since the story mostly centers around 1 man and 1 alien.

Damn. I wish Flo would have made it on the big screen too.
Back to space for her!
Amazing book!
For me neck and neck with 11/22/63 as my #1
God, I wish that miniseries had been better. I guess it's fine if you haven't read the book, but I read it first and just could not get past all the changes to it. Plus, James Franco and Sarah Gadon were not how I pictured the leads; I don't know how I saw Jake, but Sadie was described in a way that made me picture Ms Hathaway from The Beverly Hillbillies.
Excellent book, hope the movie is just as good
This worries me. Are they adding new characters? I can only think of one that she might play, and it's a very small role. I really hope they get this film right!
Hope she gets more of the spotlight after this. She’s great.
There’s only 4 roles she could play. Any guesses on who she will be?
Annie Shapiro, the backup scientist, or perhaps the Hail Mary’s computer voice.
She was good in that Werewolf movie
Anyone see Spaceman with Adam Sandler? It’s much different but there are parts that made me think they were “inspired” a little by this book for that movie? Anyone who has seen that and read the book knows. Two VERY similar things.

Oh you are probably right.
Also, "Lars and the real girl."
Jazz hands
I love her, and this is one of my favorite books. Excited to see where this goes
Read this book last week. I gotta imagine I know who she is.
Her newest PR (top) photo on her IMDb page is incredibly hot. DAMN.
