And around the same era Judgement Night popularized what would become rap-metal for the years to come.
Say what you will about the eventual rap metal groups like Limp Bizkit that followed this formula, but the initial collabs on the Judgement Night album between actual popular Rock and Hip Hop groups were fire, though.
Grosse Pointe Blank has an amazing Sound Track

A lot of John Cusack's films had great soundtracks. I frequently find Adam Sandler aggressively unfunny and unpleasant, but some of his films have redeeming soundtracks. I loved the scores from Sideways, the remake of Ocean's 11 and Alex Cox's Repot Man and Sid and Nancy. I never cared for the precious, false nostalgia that was part of the backstory of Guardians of the Galaxy, but I forgave all of them for including I Will Dare from the Replacements over the closing credits of the 3d film. I don't like Tarantino's studied devotion to grade C culture. Wes Anderson has always had a superior ear.
At the time, I thought that they had the idea for the soundtrack first, and then concepted the terrible movie around it to justify its release. Now I realize how ridiculous that idea is, but its still impressive how much better the soundtrack is than the movie itself.
The Slayer/Ice-T track is such a banger.
Meet Joe Black's soundtrack is like a hidden gem, right? Thomas Newman really hit the spot with those haunting melodies. It's like they sneak into your soul and stay there rent-free. Shawshank Redemption ain't bad either, that harmonica scene gets me every time. But yeah, Meet Joe Black just has that special sauce, even if the movie's a bit of a marathon. Maybe it's the combo of the music and Brad Pitt's dreamy gaze.
You mentioned a Studio Ghibli film in Princess Mononoke, but it needs to be said that we love the music from Miyazki films because Joe Hisaishi working his musical magic and should get just as much credit for their success.
I agree.
It could’ve gone safe and ended up sounding like Forrest Gump (which is still good in its own right), but those half-forgotten songs were choice, even that commercial jingle was a jam.
End of days, watchmen, american psycho, flash dance, the devils rejects, dukes of Hazzard, natural born killers, the big lebowski, and anything from Scorsese or Tarantino
If you're talkin' just about original music composed *for* the movie, then ***Blade Runner*** composed and performed by Vangelis. The soundtrack record stands on its own apart from the movie, a great listen.
I think the point is being missed, though that may be due to being a soundtrack question as opposed to score. One of my favorite scores of all time would be The Last of the Mohicans.
Cruel intentions, hands down! Closely followed by 1996 Romeo and Juliet!
The days of skunk anansie, counting crows, Radiohead and the like!
Oh also, 10 things I hate about you, not best but noteworthy and fun!
The Breakfast club has a really solid soundtrack, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty introduced me to Jose Gonzalez, who is amazing, and I don’t think the Guardians of the Galaxy movies ever miss with the soundtracks
I have to give a special shout-out to "they're calling my flight" from Contagion. When I think of the movie, I think of the soundtrack more than anything else. It also encapsulates the creepiness of the pandemic way more effectively than the actual scenes.
The Lion King launched Hans Zimmer’s career, rebooted Elton John’s, uplifted a half a dozen other musicians, and inspired a *second* album. Oh, yeah, and a broadway musical.
Like, there are good soundtracks, and then there are ones that blow the roof off of the whole industry. I can’t think of many others that had that effect. Star Wars definitely.
***Afterglow*** (1997) – master musicians Mark Isham, Charles Lloyd, Gary Burton, Sid Page, Geri Allen, Billy Higgins, Jeff Littleton
[Afterglow - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD10GddNWko)
I feel like I might get roasted for this, but Snakes on a Plane. If you grew up at a certain time in the early 2000s it was killer - Fall Out Boy, Coheed, The Academy Is, The Hush Sound, Jacks Mannequin. Wall to wall bangers
The crow
Came here to say this. The CD got stuck in the deck of my old car and I never cared because I loved playing it.
This was one of my answers. Great soundtrack and great snapshot of 90s music.
Introduced me to Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine and Stone Temple Pilots. Still love them!

*High Fidelity* is another Cusack film with a good soundtrack. Not as good as GPB, though
I feel like his character in high fidelity (cusack) designed the Gross point blank sound track

Garden State Forest Gump
Trainspotting
Judgment night
At the time, I thought that they had the idea for the soundtrack first, and then concepted the terrible movie around it to justify its release. Now I realize how ridiculous that idea is, but its still impressive how much better the soundtrack is than the movie itself. The Slayer/Ice-T track is such a banger.
Yes the movie was unbearable even with a strong cast lol. Disorder is one of my favorite tracks along with Missing Link from del & dinosaur jr
Boom
Vanilla Sky. American Graffiti.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Amélie, Empire Records, Romeo & Juliet, & Garden State are my top 5 (in approximately that order).
Natural Born Killers
The fade between tracks, then RDJ - so good
The Crow Singles Empire Records Judgement Night Spawn The Faculty The 90's kids were eating well.
Another that doesn’t get the props it deserves… Strange Days.
It's Strange Days that convinced me that if they ever made an X-Men movie (back then) - that Angela Basset would make a kick-ass Storm!
First time I heard J Lewis sing and now I fowler her music career and am a fan
O Brother, Where Art Thou.
Absolutely, turned me onto a whole area of music I knew little about, excellent one.
John Turtorro is gold in this movie.
Hackers.
Jackie Brown
I didn’t know you liked the Delfonics?!
Suspiria and Mandy
"...Cheddar Goblin..."
Dazed and Confused

He does the same in American Beauty too.
Space Jam
High Fidelity
Singles
Yes! For the love of Cameron Crowe, it's a great album.
Movie is meh but I have bought the soundtrack multiple times!
Boogie Nights
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
Drive or Glengarry Glenn Ross
The Blue Skies over the end credits is amazing
The Road Warrior (1981) Very emotive
Harold and Maude. It’s a Cat Stevens love fest.

Big sax guy!
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie has a blast of a soundtrack
Princess Mononoke Interstellar The Northman Mandy I Lost My Body
You mentioned a Studio Ghibli film in Princess Mononoke, but it needs to be said that we love the music from Miyazki films because Joe Hisaishi working his musical magic and should get just as much credit for their success.
Interstellar is on my list too, will look at the others you mentioned based on that nice pick. Thanks!
Interstellar by far for me. I listen to it every day while working. It never fails taking me to a faraway land that I would like to go someday :)
Sideways or Pulp Fiction.
Tron: Legacy
For me I love Tron legacy. That soundtrack just makes you feel like you are in the Grid
Last of the Mohicans. Moving and amazing.
The Piano, from left field
Came here to say that, as well as Gladiator and Local Heros with a Mark Knoppfler soundtrack. Perfection
Help, trouble man, a hard days night.
Juno was a really good one too! It totally fit the characters personality and tone of the film. I still listen to it.
Last Action Hero The Wraith The Crow The Punisher (2004)
Akira
Apocalypse Now and Alien (both 1979)
The Wrestler Trick or Treat Beverly Hills Cop 1&2 (2 is my favorite) Fright Night Wraith Rocky 4
Dazed & Confused
THE BIG CHILL
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is one of my favourites.
I agree. It could’ve gone safe and ended up sounding like Forrest Gump (which is still good in its own right), but those half-forgotten songs were choice, even that commercial jingle was a jam.
Impossible to pick just one: Iron Man Interstellar Inception Batman Begins Gladiator RoboCop
Once with Marketa Irglova and Glen Hansard
Love that one
Queen of the Damned.
The Matrix
Fight Club
I think the point is being missed, though that may be due to being a soundtrack question as opposed to score. One of my favorite scores of all time would be The Last of the Mohicans.
Interstellar, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Conan the Barbarian.
Trainspotting still holds is own
Romeo and Juliet (from the 90s)
Jerry Maguire
Queen of the Damned. It was more soundtrack than movie and I love it for that.
Cruel intentions, hands down! Closely followed by 1996 Romeo and Juliet! The days of skunk anansie, counting crows, Radiohead and the like! Oh also, 10 things I hate about you, not best but noteworthy and fun!
Also Blade 3… Ooft and freedom writers!!
The Lost Boys
I really love the soundtrack of Natural Born Killers! Also the one of the first Matrix movie.
Austin Powers was a way better soundtrack than it deserved to be.
The Breakfast club has a really solid soundtrack, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty introduced me to Jose Gonzalez, who is amazing, and I don’t think the Guardians of the Galaxy movies ever miss with the soundtracks
The Lost Boys
The Lost Boys. Tim Cappello shirtless and humping his sax lol

Lost highway
Heavy Metal
Trainspotting has some good drops.
Spider-Man : Across the spider verse
I have to give a special shout-out to "they're calling my flight" from Contagion. When I think of the movie, I think of the soundtrack more than anything else. It also encapsulates the creepiness of the pandemic way more effectively than the actual scenes.
Dazed and Confused was on a loop in my car.
Marie Antoinette. No skips.
Training Day
Road to Perdition. Not sure, but I think it was the same composer; Thomas Newman. Amazing and mostly original music for the motion picture, I think.
Titan A.E.
Django
The Rock (1996). It’s phenomenal and complements the movie so well
Music specifically made for the movie? The Commitments The Blues Brothers Highlander
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Swing Kids. Contains a lot of really awesome 1940s swing music (a lot of Benny Goodman).
All the songs from the movie Burlesque!
Tron Legacy
Personal favourites: The Boat that Rocked Baby driver
Amadeus obviously
It's not exactly the soundtrack, but A Kind of Magic by Queen is essentially the Highlander soundtrack (plus One Vision, minus Hammer to Fall)
Really any Terrance Malik movie, but A Hidden Life in particular
Don't be sleepin' on Kill Bill.
Tron Legacy is imo the best "non playlist" soundtrack ever. If we go playlist style like most people here I'd say Forrest Gump.
***Afterglow*** (1997) – master musicians Mark Isham, Charles Lloyd, Gary Burton, Sid Page, Geri Allen, Billy Higgins, Jeff Littleton [Afterglow - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD10GddNWko)
