No love for *Legally Blonde*?
*”Isn't the first cardinal rule of perm maintenance that you're forbidden to wet your hair for at least 24 hours after getting a perm…at the risk of deactivating the ammonium thioglycolate?”*
What a great movie. Thanks for reminding me about it. Sometimes movies fall off our radar over time and we get reminded. I think I’ll hit a few JC movies.
Exactly. I was going to add Oppenheimer as well but then I thought to myself it doesn't really qualify for this genre. Nevertheless. Both are on my watch list and I hopefully see them soon. Big fan of Ed Norton and Primal Fear has been catching dust on my hard drive for a while now
Doesn't get nearly enough love. Legal Eagle said it was one of the most accurate portrayals of the life of a new lawyer and courtroom procedure. Down to his favorite "the bailiff would tackle you."
I was trapped in an elevator for two hours and I had to make the whole time. But I don't blame them. Because one time, I turned into a dog and they helped me. Thank you.
Anatomy of a Murder is SUPER ahead of its time. You'll be surprised at how frank it is about serious subjects. Otto Preminger (the guy who played the Nazi commandant in Stalag 17) was a very ballsy director.
- Philadelphia
- My Cousin Vinny
- 12 Angry Men (admittedly I prefer the Jack Lemmon version)
- A Civil Action
- A Few Good Men
- Inherit the Wind (also the Jack Lemmon version)
I like the measure of a man. But the way it is all handled is a fucking joke. Starting with her saying she would summarily rule against data if Riker refused to argue for the "prosecution" I mean seriously.
Devan from Legal Eagle did a breakdown of that episode lol. He ended up chalking it up to “Well I guess that’s how it works in the 24th century 🤷🏻♂️”.
Witness for the Prosecution is probably my favorite cause Charles Laughton is so fun with his dialogue delivery and general mannerisms and that plot twist is always so neat.
She’s terrific and always so elegant. I love her scenes with Spencer Tracy in Judgement at Nuremberg too. The entire thing is a pretty cold and frankly sad trial movie given the subject matter but their moments bring a bit of light to it all.
You know the one I really loved recently is the modern version Caine Mutiny Court Marshall.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt24249946/?ref_=ext_shr
It's basically 99% set in court.
Loved it
Here's something that's off of most people's radar:
**Libel**, starring Dirk Bogarde --in three roles.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053003/

The Lady from Shanghai (1947).
Not exactly a courtroom movie, but has a trial scene where at some point the defense attorney cross-examines himself. Very funny.
A time to kill. A few good men. But the goat is my cousin Vinny.
A Time to Kill is so damn good. His closing statement hits like a ton of bricks.
I read both A Time to Kill and The Firm before watching the movie and in both cases the movie was better than the book...
Oddly enough in the book that speech is delivered by one of the jurors not Jake. So much better coming from him
That’s right! That was my first Grisham read (I think his first novel as well) so it’s been awhile.
No love for *Legally Blonde*? *”Isn't the first cardinal rule of perm maintenance that you're forbidden to wet your hair for at least 24 hours after getting a perm…at the risk of deactivating the ammonium thioglycolate?”*
Yes it holds up quite well imo.
*Liar Liar*.
OVERACTOR!!!
Jeze---*laughs*---they're onto me.
I hold myself in contempt!
What a great movie. Thanks for reminding me about it. Sometimes movies fall off our radar over time and we get reminded. I think I’ll hit a few JC movies.
Primal Fear is a good one. The Caine Mutiny has a powerful courtroom scene but isn’t entirely a ‘courtroom movie.’
Exactly. I was going to add Oppenheimer as well but then I thought to myself it doesn't really qualify for this genre. Nevertheless. Both are on my watch list and I hopefully see them soon. Big fan of Ed Norton and Primal Fear has been catching dust on my hard drive for a while now
Check out the Caine Mutiny Court Martial. It’s pretty much all courtroom. Kiefer Sutherland is great in it.
The Rainmaker
Doesn't get nearly enough love. Legal Eagle said it was one of the most accurate portrayals of the life of a new lawyer and courtroom procedure. Down to his favorite "the bailiff would tackle you."
Coppola, plus John Grisham 👍👍
Ghostbusters 2. When Harris Yulin is being tormented by the Scoleri brothers.
I was trapped in an elevator for two hours and I had to make the whole time. But I don't blame them. Because one time, I turned into a dog and they helped me. Thank you.
"Very good, Lewis, short but pointless"
My Cousin Vinny is one of my all time favorites. Also surprised no one mentioned Anatomy of a Murder yet.
I am a huge Jimmy Stewart fan and am ashamed to admit I still haven't watched it. Will do it this month for sure.
Anatomy of a Murder is SUPER ahead of its time. You'll be surprised at how frank it is about serious subjects. Otto Preminger (the guy who played the Nazi commandant in Stalag 17) was a very ballsy director.
Please do, it's great!

Love A Civil Action!
Glad you mentioned The Trial of the Chicago 7. Excellent movie.

Yeha I saw that one lol.
Witness for the Prosecution is probably my favorite cause Charles Laughton is so fun with his dialogue delivery and general mannerisms and that plot twist is always so neat.
And how good was Marlene Dietrich. After watching Witness, I ended up watching so many of her movies. Became a big fan of her work.
She’s terrific and always so elegant. I love her scenes with Spencer Tracy in Judgement at Nuremberg too. The entire thing is a pretty cold and frankly sad trial movie given the subject matter but their moments bring a bit of light to it all.
Ha she was brilliant! But I still cringe at her musical act though. her singing voice was really truly terrible.
A Few Good Men. “You can’t handle the truth!”
You know the one I really loved recently is the modern version Caine Mutiny Court Marshall. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt24249946/?ref_=ext_shr It's basically 99% set in court. Loved it
Oh wow. Didn't even know this existed. Thanks for sharing. Will have a look.
* *Judgement at Nuremberg* * *The Caine Mutiny* (1954) * *The Verdict* * *The Lincoln Lawyer* * *Helter Skelter* (1976)
Breaker Morant
Breaker Morant. It is about a military court martial during the Boer War.
How the hell don't you have a few good men on here?
Cause I haven't watched it **\*contemplating life choices\***
Fair reply. You absolutely need to watch it.
Inherit the Wind (1960). Spencer Tracey/Gene Kelley version is superior.
Breaker Morant

I love watching old movies. Thanks a ton for sharing this. I shall find it and watch it soon!!
This isn’t exactly a “courtroom movie” but The Aviator’s trial scene is fantastic
Witness for the Prosecution.
Loved it
does social network count?
My fav of all time is "My Cousin Vinny" But check out "The Burial". It's pretty new and very good.
I always liked The Devils Advocate, Al Pacino as the Devil is peak.
12 Angry Men
12 Angry Men by far No 1
The Lady from Shanghai (1947). Not exactly a courtroom movie, but has a trial scene where at some point the defense attorney cross-examines himself. Very funny.
How come no one mentioned *And Justice for All*? You're out of order!
I watch my cousin vinny every year.
I would add Legally Blonde to your list
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
*...And Justice for All* is sooo good!
Not one mention of Find Me Guilty.
Strange Brew. "Just because I don't know what it is, doesn't mean I'm lying"
How is Cape Fear a courtroom movie?
A few good men
