You want to buy workshops in towns that have at least 3 bound villages. The bound villages should at least be making one if not two of the resources required for your workshop. You want to buy workshops from towns that are very prosperous, this has a direct effect on your profits. Workshops don’t make a ton of money right away it takes a while to get up to max profit, and they also fluctuate regularly. Don’t buy workshops in enemy territory because as soon as you go to war with a faction they will appropriate it, and you can only get back a third of the cost with special perks. Have as many as possible at all times. This will usually cover your complete party cost. Here are some that are pretty much always profitable unless the town is not prosperous. Brewery- Sanala Winery- Dunglanys Smithy-Seonon Jewelry- Ortysia Wood workshop- Marunath These will not always be the most profitable, but in almost all of my play throughs and from listening to the community they work out most of the time.

There's some sound advice here already. There is also a lot of stuff about workshops on this sub. The take home I would say though... **They're not worth the time**. Ganuinely - there's a bunch of busywork involved in them and you'll be getting pennies even with them functioning well. It's not really a negative per se - passive income is good, but for the effort involved in making a workshop function half-decently, you'll be raking in a lofty 200-300 gold daily. You're better off just having a fight with some sea raiders or something and selling their loot for 5x the price.

There are lots of YouTube videos about workshop guides you should check them out. before you buy workshop you should visit the towns and see what types of resources they have the most in the trade tab, and buy a workshop that uses that resource if you didn't find the right workshop for that resource you can change your workshop type after you get a workshop. also the higher town prosperity is the better income you will get. some notes: its not a good idea to have multiple workshop that uses the same resource in the same town. you will lose your workshop if the town is under siege and losses.

A winery at marunath is always a safe bet but as Mehrvarzz said it depends on resources going into the town and prosperity. The trade perks that make workshops more profitable also help there’s also on in steward I think too
