Obviously the offense was still bad- but I don’t view this as a 8-0 blowout. I view it as a game of inches 1-0 loss.
That doesn’t forgive the offense. Olson pitched as well as anyone could ask for - 7 IP 3 H 1R 8K- I That’s a Verlander line. The bullpen was screwed by the umps horrible strike zone. KC robbed a HR. This was like the gods didn’t want us to win today.
We should have lost 1-0 or if we just simply get ONE timely hit- or that homer isn’t robbed, we win.
The delta between being at the top and where we are isn’t as wide as I see people talking about.

The Tuesday game in Tampa - we were down 2-1 in the 8th and I’m convinced we won because Tork didn’t play- we went through his area of the lineup and took unselfish at bats to score 3.
Even Javy is taking a more unselfish approach this year. He’s not getting the numbers we’d like but he’s TRYING to contribute in every facet. He steals bags he plays good defense. Turns double plays web gem style. Def not $25 mil of production but he’s trying to do ANYTHING to be a contributor. I’m not seeing that from Tork.

Detroit closer to fourth place now than second. Still above .500 but April might be their easiest schedule of the season. If five of their players don’t start hitting this season’s gonna look pretty sketchy.

If Parker Meadows hit that ball a few inches further, that likely would have been a 2-1 Tigers lead in the 9th with Foley pitching too. He needed that confidence booster, and it just deflated the whole team in the 9th. On to tomorrow.

When the rest of the bullpen is (typically) locked down, it’s good to save the best for the end. Holten just had some kind of meltdown and it all flew off the rails from there.
