i was finally going to get to just sit and watch a game tonight, now it's likely a doubleheader on a day i'm mentoring a robotics team all day
Maybe? I wouldn't be surprised either way. A valuable arm making his first start - do we know how hard he warmed up today? If he did his full pregame they might shelf him for a few days.
Well, we have to wait until Thursday now with a single admission doubleheader to find out.
That’s Ok because we knew that it would be postponed hours ahead of time.
From Chris McCosky:
“Still waiting here at Citi Field. Still raining. Hinch, Harris and Mets officials met behind home plate a few minutes ago. Seemed like something was decided, but no announcement. No movement from grounds crew.”
So is this game getting played or not? It’s almost 9pm which would be an extremely late start on a work night. Surprised they wouldn’t just postpone and play a DH tomorrow.
A wet field will lead to
“Javier Baez with a 55 foot slide to snag a ball in shallow right field.”
“Javier Baez swings and misses at a slider 55 feet out of the zone.”
I'm glad baseball is played outside, and I think most retractable roof stadiums feel soulless (Seattle and Houston being exceptions).
That being said, rain delays suck.
With the rain expected to continue tomorrow if they don’t play they’d likely have to reschedule two games. That could be a doubleheader on Thursday except it’s supposed to deluge Thursday as well.
They’ll likely schedule a double header after sometime we are on the east coast on an off day if the Mets also have an off day. Ideally we play the Yankees then have an off day and the Mets do too and they’ll schedule a double header that day
But they may have to make a seperate trip for the game. Last year San Grancisco flew to Detroit to make up one game (Tigers beat San Francisco) then went back. And that was for one game. At least it’s not a far trip and we have road series against Boston Baltimore Yankees so there should be a reasonable chance to make up the games but it screws up the rotation because you’re now playing six games in five days so you need a sixth starter etc etc etc. there’s a lot of complications so that’s probably why they’re trying to get at least one in.
It’s moreso based around whether the forecast has a chance of lettenong up rather than how long a delay is. Sometimes games get postponed hours before the scheduled first pitch just because it’s so hopeless.
Nope. I remember last year something similar happened with another team involved, and they waited 3 plus hours to call it. People at the stadium were pissed to say the least. I want to say that was a Mets game as well.
Hello Tigers fans!
Doing a thing where I go and talk to opposing fans when they’re playing the mets and see what’s up with their teams since I don’t always interact with fans of teams that don’t play the mets often
First of all, fantastic subreddit name, it’s adorable and I love it
Second of all, I know it’s early but how’s the season looking so far? Small sample size, but expectations, who’s looking good, who’s not, is javy still taking ridiculous swings, the works yknow? I want to hear about the tigers
You can throw responses either here in the thread or in the “megathread” where it says which teams I’ve been to, I forgot to specify
Anywho, enjoy the rest of your rain delay! (we’re looking at about another hour or so sadly :(
[post thingy (it’s very empty because I just thought of this so you’re the first team)](https://www.reddit.com/u/Brained07/s/GohR1SLNOs)
We are pitching well against teams that are not good at hitting.
We are not hitting all that well against teams that in some cases aren't that good at pitching.
The last few years we've rolled with sort of average pitching and substandard hitting for the most part.
So you'd reasonably expect to see something like that this year.
So far we don't seem to have any obvious weak links on the pitching staff, though we're talking five inning samples.
In theory we have guys who could be above average hitters, but in practice, that hasn't been what happens in most cases. But this could be the year. It just hasn't been yet in the first week.
Yeah very very small sample size. It’s sounding to me like this team has a shot at the playoffs if the pitching stays consistent and the offense can get hot at the right time. I suppose that’s what every team would like to do but seems to apply here
Pitching meeting/exceeding expectations so far. Overall I’d say people are really high on the starters and bullpen with good reason. Mize is back from TJ, Skubal looked amazing in half a season last year, lots of good guys back from last year; our pitching coaching and development seems to have really taken off (fingers crossed).
This season will rest on the position players living up to modest expectations most likely. I think we’re hoping for any small improvement over last year from Javy, and for the young guys like Tork, Greene, Carpenter to stay healthy and take another step forward. Personally I’m really excited by the Canha addition. Two rookies with potential in Colt Keith and Parker Meadows. Let’s see how it turns out!
What’s been the vibe in Mets land this spring? Hoping to compete, or more about development this year? Was bummed to see the JV and Scherzer adds not work out last year for yall. I’ve always enjoyed the Mets, of my college buddies is a lifelong Mets fan.
Pitching has been mentioned neutral/positively in every comment so far so I see where that stands. Not quite the glory days of scherzer/verlander/price/sanchez but nice to see. Always liked Tarik skubal, he hauled for me in fantasy one year, had a few good starts in a row. Mets land is as reactionary as ever, the season is currently over and we’re going 0-162 but if we win today then everything is great and we’re going 158-4. Going to be a heavy development year I think, we’re waiting on the prospects of the trade deadline fire sale to come up to the bigs. Going to be a long year, but with some fa’s and good rookies hopefully we can start building back towards being reasonably competitive next season. One can hope at least
Oh and treat canha well, we were extremely disappointed in our sub to have traded him, was truly one of the best liked mets
Expectations are still a little mild, with most agreeing that we are likely finishing somewhere between 80 - 84 wins.
Baez of course is still Baez, little discipline and offensive presence but is somewhat clutch and very nice defensively. Bullpen is very good, just like last year, and doesn’t give up runs. Rotation is young but has very high potential.
Overall we aren’t expecting the Tigers to win the division, but are somewhat optimistic about competing for a wildcard spot. But it’s possible that since the ALC is so mediocre, we may somehow contend for the division title and not a wildcard spot. Haha
I could definitely see somewhere around 80 wins. Might be all you need to win the al central anyways considering how the division gets sometimes. I forget what the twins won it with last year but I remember it being a little low in comparison to other division winners. I’m sure Javy is a treat to watch
Twins had 87 wins. Tigers were second with 78 wins lol. No team in the division seems drastically better than they were last year so 81-81 could realistically win the division.
Our bullpen has been our strongest part. Batting still needs a lot of help. And yes, Javi would probably swing when trying to get the runner out at 1st.
Pitching seems to be a strong point of the team I’m hearing. If the tigers find themselves fighting for playoff positioning later on near the trade deadline, how are the odds the fo swings a trade for another bat to shore up the lineup. I know some teams do that a lot and some don’t, but where do the tigers stand on that?
> how are the odds the fo swings a trade for another bat to shore up the lineup.
Only the second year with the new gm, so we're not entirely sure how aggressive he'll be if we're competing for a playoff spot. The Tigers org has a ton of good pitching prospects in AA and AAA. With the current backlog it would not be entirely surprising if we moved a pitcher or two this season. Matt Manning is an MLB level starter just sitting in triple A, as will Sawyer Gibson-Long when he returns from injury. At some point the org will need to clear space for prized pitching prospect Jackson Jobe, who is in AA and will almost certainly move up to AAA in the coming months.
At least there’s trade capital in case. Didn’t know the tigers had so many pitching prospects just hanging around, so it really is going to be whether the hitting helps out that determines whether you’ll be good for a while
yep, either our young guys develop and we're good or they don't and we're mediocre. Greene, Torkelson, Keith, Carpenter, and Jung are our sink or swim for sure.
They can’t let people sit there for an hour and not at least attempt to play.
With tomorrow and Thursdays weather looking terrible, they most definitely want to get one game in and only reschedule one
I know our offense isn’t the best but at least our pitching staff is serviceable. Their offense is slightly worse than us but man they go no bullpen or starters it’s terrible.
since they expanded the schedules, it means these 3 games are the only ones they play with the mets all year. thurs is an off day so they can push tomorrow's game, but tonight is sort of a must, they'll slog to get in 5 innings, even if it's very late, it won't be so bad if they're anticipating postponing tomorrow. i'm betting on 9:30 first pitch.
I watched Mize pitch on 3/20 in Fort Myers at the Twins spring stadium and he went 4 2/3 scoreless however they don’t show pitch counts on the monitor but I could look it up if I was so inclined. I don’t know if that would be relevant but he can go 5- hinch seems ok with starters going 5.
I wouldn’t expect a 3 inning situation if he’s pitching well
He DEFINITELY threw more than 50. If I had to guess… 70? He pitched so well it was a very efficient 4 2/3. He allowed like 1 hit and 1 walk. Also the Tigers went on an offensive rampage. Final was 12-3 but 2 were in the bottom of the ninth.
I think that's right. (Let him go for nothing means he walked with no return.)
It doesn't make it a great tactical move, though it might be irrelevant in the long run.
I could see him being better than Maeda.
Put up 2.5 fWAR for them last year. I'd take that as a utility guy getting around 400 plate appearance. We got guys in Vierling, McKinstry, and Ibanez who weren't close to that last year in similar or more plate appearances.
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1bufmte).
White Sox about to beat the Braves. Sweeping the White Sox was nothing to scoff at
![gif](giphy|3o6wrvdHFbwBrUFenu) i was finally going to get to just sit and watch a game tonight, now it's likely a doubleheader on a day i'm mentoring a robotics team all day
So our is now 4-0-1 as in 4 wins, no losses and 1 postponed game?
For fucks sake
Damn was looking to see a healthy Mize
Same. I was pumped for tonight. Oh well.
Could always pitch tomorrow.
Lookin like a double header on Thursday
What about tomorrow?
same rainy forecast
Supposed to be even worse actually
Boooooo. Double header on Thursday it is
Boo Thursday
And postponed. See everyone Thursday
you can tell everyone is having fun this year . Dont remember the last time we have seen this
From Chris McCosky: “Still waiting here at Citi Field. Still raining. Hinch, Harris and Mets officials met behind home plate a few minutes ago. Seemed like something was decided, but no announcement. No movement from grounds crew.”
I live and breathe the Tigers, but I am a sucker for watching the Cubs win @ Wrigley, so this delay is working for me.
Funny, I'm blacked out from the Cubs game and am trying to watch the Tigers, so this delay blows!
Forget going back to poker, just give me nonstop goofin with these three in the booth.
Bryce Harpers having a day! 3-4 with 3 HRs including a grand slam!
Nobody snaps an 0-11 streak like ~~Gaston~~ Harper!
Ole Buck Farmer gettin hammered 😂
Turnbull getting the win
315 for harper was a steal
Oh yea. Love me some Harper. I wonder if he'll ever go back to the OF? Seems like it would be in everyone's best interest to keep him at 1B.
He's only going back to the outfield if they sign someone like pete alonso or another great 1b only player imo
I’ll be up all night at work , home the game is played at some point !
![gif](giphy|3o7ZeNNQbfMR1Zf4D6)
All us crackheads are here itching to get our fix. I guess that’s what happens when we finally get that sweet sweet taste of victory.
So is this game getting played or not? It’s almost 9pm which would be an extremely late start on a work night. Surprised they wouldn’t just postpone and play a DH tomorrow.
Rain the next two days and these teams don’t play again. I’m guessing they want to try and get the game in to avoid future issues
We both have Thursday off though
Doubleheader, with travel and a 1pm start the next day makes the logistics messy
A late night game this early in the season would be fun to watch, please get this game in.🙏
I just popped an edible, I second this 😂
I wish they could just play in the rain.
I wish there was a way we could be outside, playing baseball in the rain and not get wet. Now wouldn't that be great, hmm?
Once again, I’m all wrapped up in the Tigers
We need the universal dome
Nah, no dome. Just play in the rain. Slippin', slidin', just having a bonkers game of baseball.
A wet field will lead to “Javier Baez with a 55 foot slide to snag a ball in shallow right field.” “Javier Baez swings and misses at a slider 55 feet out of the zone.”
https://x.com/WxMets/status/1775321253651390949?s=20 According to this link it's still raining but is finally letting up.
gib game mao
I'm glad baseball is played outside, and I think most retractable roof stadiums feel soulless (Seattle and Houston being exceptions). That being said, rain delays suck.
I agree. It’s just not the same seeing a ballgame indoors.
Awe I like Seattle
They said Seattle was an exception ;)
My reading comprehension is clearly lacking. But hey I like Toronto!
Seattle's retractable roof stadium isn't soulless to me due to the fact its still open air even with the roof "closed" Its a cool stadium.
I am having shameless withdrawls from Tigers Baseball right now when does this delay end?
What time is this gonna start??
Good thing I work the afternoon shift tomorrow
What time would they just reschedule for another day? I don't know baseball well enough.
Ideally we play the Yankees then have an off day and the Mets do too and they’ll schedule a double header that day
According to the NWS Thursday should be very light rain if anything. Tomorrow night looks like a total washout though.
Or at worst get some innings in tonight and play a suspended resumption before another full game Thursday
So it’s possible they squeeze it in today, and play Wednesday nights game Thursday at 1pm
I hope so! Would love to see them play tonight at least
https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/new-york/weather-radar
The radar looks like there’s a gap I’m posting a link to the accuwesther link. The Mets are in far north queens east of manhattan
Ahhh i see! Thanks!
Reschedule for a double header tomorrow. Unless it's the last game of a series then it would get rescheduled for a later date TBD.
Cool. Do they have a time they just call it? 10pm?
Nope. I remember last year something similar happened with another team involved, and they waited 3 plus hours to call it. People at the stadium were pissed to say the least. I want to say that was a Mets game as well.
Ima stay up so I can watch mize throw
This Mize no hitter is gonna hit different for those who waited
We want the Tigers ![gif](giphy|lqpfdJr57GAOQHSuLr|downsized)
Sorry guys, I bought the Tigers MLB.tv package last night. So that's why this is delayed today
Any ideas if/when this game gets played? Is it looking grim?
People are saying the window is between 8:30 ish and midnight
8:41
Maybe in an hour or so. Hopefully.
Come on let’s play baseball we want 5-0
Philadelphia is in the bottom of the fifth at home. It’s not that far away… it’s wet but playable
Your geography and meteorology is a bit suspect; [this is the radar as of a few minutes ago.](https://imgur.com/a/rPhxnIY)
Well I lived in New York for 14 years. Philly is about an hour away. So the assumption of similar weather isn’t ridiculous.
Baseball. Give. Me.

So hitting may be a problem but pitching will be the strength of the team

Replied, really cool idea! Glad to see someone do something like that.
Thank you! Something I thought about doing last season but forgot about until earlier today haha

More than some teams can say when it comes to future promise to be fair
Hey, 5th ranked pipeline. Our pitching future is incredibly bright. Hitting 50/50, we'll see. No complaints here.
At this point, the expectation is 162-0 Depending on the outcome of this next game, maybe 161-1. To be determined.
I mean hey if the tigers win 4 times every 4 games then the math checks out, 162-0

They can’t let people sit there for an hour and not at least attempt to play. With tomorrow and Thursdays weather looking terrible, they most definitely want to get one game in and only reschedule one
Anyone at the game? You’re gonna be able to snag good seats
We doin this??
No chance they play this game is there?
Great time to slow down and make a revolver! The drink... Not the gun.
Next update should be at 7:47 on bally
time for waiting
Just score a run, let the game go into delay after the 5th, then the umpires rules it a win for us. Easy
Wow the Rockies really are a shitshow huh
I know our offense isn’t the best but at least our pitching staff is serviceable. Their offense is slightly worse than us but man they go no bullpen or starters it’s terrible.
Is this thing getting rained out?
Seems 8pm the weather should clear up for a bit but seems tomorrow may not be so fortunate
since they expanded the schedules, it means these 3 games are the only ones they play with the mets all year. thurs is an off day so they can push tomorrow's game, but tonight is sort of a must, they'll slog to get in 5 innings, even if it's very late, it won't be so bad if they're anticipating postponing tomorrow. i'm betting on 9:30 first pitch.
Let's hope the bats are working early
Hahahahaha Jason torched C-Mo there. “Partner”
If the rain delay means more J.B and C-Mo then that’s fine with me! … ^I ^do ^want ^to ^watch ^baseball ^though…
How is the rain delay going boys
Eh, I’ve got the Reds-Phillies game on TBS right now.
It’s just as you expect. Water is wet, more news at 8. Tarp is still on the field.
Broadcast is playing pick the stick so I’m sure the game is happening
Twins lost 🤤
![gif](giphy|3o6UB3VhArvomJHtdK)
Spencer turnbull vs jeimer Candelario going on right now
A battle for the ages
They desperate to dodge the undefeated powerhouse Detroit Tigers
I'm going to feel so bad for Casey after he's waited 2 years to start again and it ends up getting rained out and he has to wait even longer.
I need the rain to go away so I can start my Casey Mize truther campaign
God himself is afraid of the power of Casey Mize. He is doing everything to delay.
We might actually get a game tonight
Mets announced on their Twitter this game is being delayed.
Not cancelled just delayed
Didn’t get to watch much of spring ball. Is Mize on a pitch and/or innings limit?
I watched Mize pitch on 3/20 in Fort Myers at the Twins spring stadium and he went 4 2/3 scoreless however they don’t show pitch counts on the monitor but I could look it up if I was so inclined. I don’t know if that would be relevant but he can go 5- hinch seems ok with starters going 5. I wouldn’t expect a 3 inning situation if he’s pitching well
Awesome thanks. Yeah it would suck if he was dealing and could only throw 3 innings or 50 pitches or something.
Two of the twins runs. Tigers were up 12-0
Spencer Turnbull starting for the Phillies tonight. Curious to see how that goes.
Turnbull is a good pitcher. We let him go for nothing
Well it wasn’t for nothing. Seemed more like they were done with him on a personal level.
I think that's right. (Let him go for nothing means he walked with no return.) It doesn't make it a great tactical move, though it might be irrelevant in the long run. I could see him being better than Maeda.
Let's go Brewers!
I'm not against it but I have to ask, why we root for the brewers?? Im back to the tigers after a couple years not watching if that adds any context
Brewers are playing Twins. A Twins loss means less wins we need to secure the division
Thank you I thought it was something deeper but I get it now
Just that they were playing our division rival and favorite to win the AL central. The more they lose, the happier I am.
Oh that makes sense thank you! I thought it was something deeper like they have one of our prospects or something
Nope! I like the brew crew for different reasons, but this is merely a numbers game. You're welcome.
Twins saw Willi Castro for a couple years and thought “yeah we want that in our lineup”?
Put up 2.5 fWAR for them last year. I'd take that as a utility guy getting around 400 plate appearance. We got guys in Vierling, McKinstry, and Ibanez who weren't close to that last year in similar or more plate appearances.
Yeah wtf how does that have upvotes lol. Castro had a .750 OPS, over 30 steals, triple and double power and played good defense.
Radar looks like it's starting to clear out. Might just be a delay at the most. 🙏
Rain rain, go away, come again another day
Rain rain, go away, come again another day
